    All points of view are welcome here. I post these recordings to bring joy to the listeners and I understand that some of you may prefer some other interpretation. I just want to clarify one thing:
    - Chopin was fragile and feeble. His music was not.

    • @TJFNYC212
      @TJFNYC212 5 лет назад +5

      In my opinion, there is nothing delicate about her touch in the intimate pieces of Chopin. I am a big Martha fan in respect to what she performs well and Chopin is not always one of those areas. Her playing of the 4th ballade is rushed and bombastic. I don't like it. Her approach to the 2nd movement of the e minor concerto, however, is delicate and poetic. The 4th ballade is not.

    • @rigel48
      @rigel48 5 лет назад +8

      TJFNYC212 : are you sure that the 4th ballade is an intimate piece ? It is rather narrative and epic (like the other ballades).

    She's obviously among the world's finest pianists alive or dead, there's no doubt at all about that... and there are many points in these ballades and her other interpretations where she does something unique and surprising, like she's extracting some dynamic from certain passages that I'd never noticed before, but that was really there embedded in the music all along.
    That said, the tremendous scope of her dynamics can be a little... jarring isn't the right word. I don't know, oftentimes her playing just has this liquidity, and I feel like I can't keep hold of it - it's always changing shape and falling into the gaps in my understanding. It can actually become quite frustrating! Come to think of it, many women have this effect on me...

      Rachmaninov allegedly said that he wrote the d minor concerto for elephants and MA has certainly that approach to the concerto and works of the Russian school. I am not so certain that Chopin wrote his music with tigers in mind and therein the problem with her overly muscular approach to these intimate masterpieces. She is great at what she does well but, IN MY OPINION, I do not think that the more intimate Chopin is her forte. I would suggest or point out Pior Anderszewkit's rendition of the F minor ballade as a reference. It is not rushed and sublimely poetic. Technique and speeding never overcome the poetry. I do believe that Chopin allegedly said that "an aristocrat never hurries!" ruclips.net/video/DqeXhIzEjVM/видео.html

    She is a fine pianist, but I have always wished she would slow down. It sounds like she is playing fast, and rushing her way through the music. (She sounds like this in many of the pieces she plays.) She has some wonderful voicing in many spots, but you almost miss it because she's playing at the speed of light. But what do I know, right. Interestingly enough, she recently performed the Tchaikovsky piano concerto and it was glorious.
