As opposed to the fantastic and whimsical nature Poor Things opted for, Kinds of Kindness returns us to a grassroots reality, albeit one that features strange people engaging in strange behavior, and is reflective of the sorts of heightened and exaggerated characters Lanthimos has played with before.

I think that Yorgos likes to explore violence, control and exploitive sex because control is his drug. Through his films he controls everything and gets to take his controlling to extreme through his characters and watch his private joke be played out by actors who submit to his control and depictions of depravity under the premise that they are just doing their jobs. I don't for one minute think that Yorgos believes he is creating art or entertainment. I think he is getting off on control and contempt and having a big laugh at the actors who participate in it.
