we have started using a LARGE ocean/catfish fishing pole to pull the bird/bait across the field to keep the human scent away from it so the pups wont track us!! just a helpful hint.. thanks for sharing your tips also
My 16wk gsp did some tracking today. I was impressed. Last track gave my son 5mins to run along the track and run into the woods to hide out of sight. The way he stop on the track retraced his steps and dived into the woods was amazing.
Absolutely amazed by dogs ability to track/trail. I always knew they had an ability to do so but witnessing it firsthand with my girls is something else.
I am getting my puppy in a couple weeks and just wanted to say thank you for all your videos, they have been a great resource. One thing i wish you had in the description of your videos is the dogs age at the time of the video. I want to get as much out of my puppy as possible but dont want to push him into training before he is ready. So if I had some sort of gauge, I could figure out around what time to introduce new challenges. Thanks again for the videos.
Thanks for the feedback! Congrats on your upcoming new puppy! Check out our playlists on our channel. It shows the order we suggest working on things with the puppies!
Kathy McClurkin thank you! Have you found our patreon account? It’s a way to become more involved with training through a video exchange subscription or you can just show us your support and appreciation for the free resources we do provide. www.patreon.com/StandingStoneKennels
Have you thought of using a drone to do your drag if that would be possible your scent wouldn’t be left behind you should try it and make a video of how it works out
Thank you for posting! Somewhat experienced hound owner here, but urban. Fostering (and pretty sure we will adopt now) a 3 yo female blood hound. She’s so intelligent and really needs stimulation. Do you have recommendations on how to train her to track? Or what to train her to track? Or should we just follow your videos. Thanks!
Can you train a GSD to track or does it have to be a retriever dog. I'm asking because I deer hunt and the deer run quite a long way after they are shot so it helps to have a dog to track it.
Yes! Just about any dog can trail down game. It comes more naturally to some breeds than others, but if a dog has drive and a working nose, then they have the tools. And GSDs are often used in SAR, Law enforcement, and the military for trailing, tracking, and detecting anything from people and animals to drugs and explosives.
That's a short track. Are You planning on tracking Deer? I never had a need for tracking when hunting Upland Game or Ducks and Geese. Teaching to not be gun shy is not always easy.
Not trying to rain on your parade but if you would have your camera person put it in manual focus it would not be blurry for a good portion of the video.I do like your training tips.
What other part of an animal can I use instead of liver? Too much liver can cause an overdose in Vitamin A and I already feed a raw diet. Would maybe just any chunk of meat work?

Seriously. It more nutrients than any meat on the planet. You use the Internet too much. You think a coyote or wolf says to itself , oh damn I can’t eat all this liver or I may get sick . Use common sense kid. She’s using it as a start because of how potent the smell is. In all reality this should have been done when the dog was 8 to ten weeks old . Read Born to Track . You’ll learn all you need to know ...... Good luck Vitamin A
A piece of liver used for tracking will not overdose your dog... You aren't doing this ten times a day... It's a couple times a week.. Use a strip of liver for each track.
@@ryans9029 wel that would make more sense to use a strip. But I see they are using like a whole liver. Which could lead to a Vitamin A overdoes if they also ate dog food that day too.

Not really explaining how you taught the dog to track! Your dog already had an idea we need details! Broken down details and we haven’t gotten any so I’m gonna dislike this video!!

I know I’m way late but just so you know puppies brains are pretty much fully developed around 8 weeks of age
Beautiful dog! Love watching her progress

I use a long fishing pole with the bait.

What a beautiful dog
Thank you!
Do you use raw liver or cooked?
Raw!

Btw this mama was rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas. Trying to give her the best life going forward. Thank you again!

Will any type of liver work? Is the liver cooked at all?
Ben Chesney raw liver! Beef would work if you can’t get deer liver.
Thank you 🙏
Is that deer liver?
Yes.
would you do repetitions of this using smaller pieces of liver, or is it necessary to have a larger piece for them to track the scent?
Ian Mills using a slightly smaller piece would be fine!
That's a short track. Are You planning on tracking Deer? I never had a need for tracking when hunting Upland Game or Ducks and Geese. Teaching to not be gun shy is not always easy.
I you don’t see the need for tracking in upland hunting then you must be missing something…
@@StandingStoneKennels I know how to Train a ShortHair. Chasing Deer could mess up Your Bird Hunt.
Are there sequels to this video ?
What breed is that dog?
German Shorthair

you should use whats left of pinkguns liver...........

Why do you have such a long lead rope
Who’s on the camera🤦🏻

Did you look for their other videos? Their Patreon? Teaching tracking is a long process.. This video isn't a one stop tracking course.. Lol
The photography is bad and the dog does not listen from the first call
Seriously. An e collar??? Is that necessary? Maybe learn to control your dog first before teaching any other tricks.
shhh
So fuckin ignorant holy moly
@@RaditzAus Agreed. It's a real shame some people are so ignorant about why you shouldn't use an e-collar as a replacement for proper training.
wow, you're a joke.
Worst training women.
She is great! I think you could use a little bit of training. Especially if you can just say that so openly. Not cool.
