Not a fan of raisins so she refused to use them but she'll eat bugs, clams that look like reproductive organs and other unsavory looking things.. she cracks me up.. LOLOL
It’s logical. You need to try things first to decide if you like them. Emmy tried raisins and judged them unworthy.
Yep, sounds about right. 😁
@Jon_R110 ,probably about the same way I'd feel if I were to find a bug or a mealworm I'm sure. Yeah, that would cause definite drama..
She's secretly Klingon. 😊
@@MichaelSHartman But Worf liked prune juice, and a prune is just a plum raisin, so... 🤔
Has anyone tried buying pork & beans lately? They are wiped out in our stores. LOL No wonder they bought out the tp hey?
No wonder there's a run on face masks and ventilators.....
I just bought 4 cans a Van camp's pork and beans love that brand
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Inkfish Pete huh
I make Hot and Smoky Baked Beans, a recipe on Epicurious.
Emmy has made a lot of questionable foods but this one takes.....the cake😎
Well played! 😄
Bravo!!
Ba zingggg
The corn lol
Omg corny lol
*Dear Emmy,* 🙏🏼
Will you please try out the childhood snack that my mom made for myself and my siblings when we were growing up? This was a relatively simple recipe. I am Mexican American so this little snack is reflective of that. Lol.
My mom called them Banderitas (translation from Spanish to English is “Little Flags.”)
They were called Banderitas because the the different colors of the condiments reminded her of a little flag.
We often ate these when we were outside playing, and we wanted a hearty little snack that we could run back outside with.
*Recipe for “Banderitas”*
(Little flags)
1: Flour Tortillas (you don’t necessarily have to make them, but at least purchase from a good Mexican restaurant that knows how to make them right).
2: 2 medium thick slices of all beef deli sliced bologna.
3: Mayo, Mustard, Ketchup
Instructions:
Heat the tortillas on the stovetop. If you have a comal or a pan it will work.
Put the two cold and fresh slices of bologna on the tortilla and and then add the mayo, mustard and ketchup. Then roll them up like taquitos.
This is my moms snack that she made for us as kids. Now that my siblings and I are all grown up, a couple of us still enjoy the occasional Banderita. ❤️☺️
Banderitas are already a mexican shredded coconut candy with the flag colors of Mexico, though.
Marcelique
Those have nothing to do with his mom’s recipe though.
+
Bologna... the lunch meat of many childhoods. For me it was white bread, bologna, mustard and Cheetos or plain Ruffles chips on the sandwich.
Isn't that literally just a cheese and ham sandwich, but with a flour tortilla instead of bread? Not very exciting.
I love how Emmy likes Natto but doesn’t like raisins 😂😂
Inami I am the same! Yay for Natto! Boo for raisins!
If I hate raisins do you think I might like natto?
I have no idea why associating these two totally different foods makes sense to you.
Raisins are evil
I love your videos, I fell down the rabbit hole and have binged watched everything 🙈🙈 thank your for really great content! New favourite creator ❤️
Emmy: Pork and beans in a cake? Seems legit
Also Emmy: Raisins are beyond the pale
Emmy you are such a delight. You take such joy in the littlest (and sometimes nuttiest) things
I've had a recipe for pork and beans cake for years. I used to make it for every new family moving into our neighborhood. I got the recipe from a murder mystery book whose main character is a baker/caterer. I love this recipe. However, because so many people do not eat pork, I use vegetarian beans. I add pecans or walnuts, and I bake it in a loaf pan.
Goldie's Catering? I must be behind in my reading.
Marguerite Dawson did you tell them it was made with pork n beans and did they like it?
I know the series you are talking about. I have most of those books.
piesusan17 It’s 5 a.m. and I just remembered the name of the author. It is Joanne Fluke, and the pork and beans bread recipe is from her book, “Plum Pudding Murder”. The heroine in this series is Hannah Swenson. The Hallmark Channel has filmed a few of the titles. BTW, I love Goldie too! I’ve read most of Diane Mott Davidson’s books also.
ah I always tell them. They are so surprised. My new neighbors across the street told me it was so good they were fighting over the last piece!
In Soviet times, my Mama baked the Ukrainian Easter cakes - paska(s) - in cans from different canned foods. I liked the paska made in a can from peaches the best. Now we just buy paper paska forms in supermarkets, and I bake them myself. Somehow they’re never as tasty :P
That's so interesting, thanks for sharing :)
ChickenNicker Thank you for your kind words :)
Kyiv stuff how do you make it? Im curious.
I’m listening, go on..,
Hahaha paska means shit in Finnish! 😂
Your excitement over seeing the beans is amazing!
Omg Emmy is closing in on 2 million subs!!!
You are so much fun to watch. Can't believe how brave you are trying some of the stuff you do.❤
I see little hands helping with this recipe. So sweet ❤💜
Wow, I just sat down with dinner to find something like your videos to watch and then you delivered. Weird coincidence but appreciated!
None of these things seem like they will work but somehow they do! I remember the first time I made courgette (zucchini) cake - mindblowing! I'll have to try this if my lockdown supplies deplete.
Lol why "zucchini", there's no point translating for Americans
@@user-rq6qd9ki9c there is a pretty international audience for this channel, tho
Lol 😂
Some people call it courgette bread too which is why I like it buttered!! I like pumpkin bread too :) There are some really suprising dished out there - saw this one ruclips.net/video/wRqEoL4UKc8/видео.html as week ago and it was just phenomenal, finished the last slice tonight and despite being on a diet really wish I didn't have to share it with my husband!!
Can you make an easy pad thai dish with top ramen and peanut butter?
I put battery acid on my Korean Fire Noodles for added spice.
I make it all the time! I use a couple tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter melted down, a little soy sauce, some lime juice and some bean sprouts if I have them.
@LibbyM thx for the recipe :) Sounds soo bomb! I'm definitely going to give it a whirl.. crunchy peanut butter is mando!
OMG! I have made this cake for years!! I got the recipe from a Joanne fluke mystery novel. I love her books because they are half old lady mystery (no sexy scenes or cursing) and half awesome crazy recipes. 😁
My husband's aunt makes this and taught me how to. The recipe is different. Not as much sugar, and we blend the beans up to where you don't see them. We do use pecans, and bake it as a round cake. We also use a little coconut in it too. For the frosting it's a cream cheese frosting with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla with chopped pecans. The beans add to the moisture to the cake so not as much oil is needed either. It is so yummy!!!
It’s just somebody who’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and get experimental in the kitchen. I’d trust her judgement when it comes stuff like this. It refreshing to know that there’s people finding their places in this world like this. I’m kinda envious but more inspired and entertained!!
Love how real she always is... She could have easily just slapped that label on the can and made it seem like every came out all easily and perfect. She always shows us what really goes does when she's working. And she always gives us her real real opinion even if she doesn't like something. That's why so many respect her... She real unlike so many on YT
I love that you share your silliness with us, at the end of the videos ♥️❤️♥️❤️
I am always interested to see what great new recipe you are going to try. And also enjoyable to see if or how your items come out of the pan or the can.
I have had this cake when I was younger. My aunt used to smash the beans and put walnuts in the cake. She served it like a brownie with whipped cream on top. It was delicious.
I am so glad I found you, Emmy. You are so comfortable in front of the camera and make me feel like your friend.
I'm not a fan of pork and beans, but I love cake, so I might like this.
Haha same! 🤣
First thing I said... "Mmmm!!" Why? I don't know. This sounds delicious to me. I think I'm just hungry!!
@Manda Same here i love that combination i could live on it:) not sure of the cake lol.
I just ate a corn tamale so I feel like it would be similar.
My aunt use to make us kids, "sloppy Janes" cut up hot dogs and beans on a hot dog bun... good times!!
When we were kids, we had them all the time. My great aunt would cut up hot dogs to put it it.
So true
Same. I can remember putting a little sugar in it too
And throw a sprinkle of sharp cheddar on top and it becomes DELICIOUS! Once in awhile I'll make this for my kids
Yep I made that for my kids when they were little beanie weenies over rice
Beenie weenies
I’m making this for my Dad for Father’s Day as a gag gift... he loves pork and beans 😂
Pork and beans and wieners. If she thought about it when she went to the store it would be Polish sausage
Your videos are calming.
How can there be strife in the world when we could all just kick back and watch Emmy cook?
We can always count on Emmy to cook the most dubious recipes 😀😀
I been watching you a few years Emmy , Bologna cake , your spaghetti Os jello but this Emmy ..I cannot 😂. Love you so much! 💕
Emmy you should try that crazy tea recipe from that tiktok! I has 1 cup of lipton 2 cups of tang 2 extra cups of sugat and some other spices, it seems like way too much sugar but also like something you'd try on your channel!
yes!!! i'll consider this video a birthday gift (even though it's tomorrow haha) love your videos and i'm excited that im early!
Happy early Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you Emmy for taking the risk and tasting the final product, your expression was priceless!
Emmy takes such pleasure in a simple pork and bean cake. :)
I'm way more excited to try this recipe than I should be. Yum!
New camera? Better lighting? Someone's upped her game!
Interesting recipe.
You can either grease & flour the bottom of the cake pan or use parchment paper on the bottom of the cake pan.
There's gluten free cake & brownie recipes that use cooked / canned white, black or garbanzo beans depending on if they're for white cake, blondies or chocolate cake or brownies. Those recipes usually put everything in a blender so the beans get pureed.
I love your excitement in everything you do... It's funny cause i pulled ur video up and paused it because my husbands a first responder and this morning he woke with a temp so i have been nursing him all day.Well i went to see if he wanted anything before i started ur video and he said ya im craving pork and beans and he didnt see this video im in a different room.. so i told him what i was about to watch and he lol...
Cooking spray or oil/butter lining The Pam works to if you dont have parchment paper. Just don't put a boat load otherwise it'll mess with the consistency
YAY!!! You remembered the baking tray!!! WOW! That was a lot of baking powder and soda. But I can understand why they added it, beans are very starchy and dense like potatoes. The extra is just a precaution for the rise. I would go ahead and reduce it down to 1/4 tsp of each instead of 1/2 tsp to reduce the overflow from the cans. But your cake pan version looked great! Yes, parchment is our friend when baking. Even in the can, just make a tube of parchment for easier release. It almost reminds me of your bread in a can recipe you did way back when. I would recommend changing the sugar amount to 1/2 a cup per 2 cups, that's a lot. Or better yet, change it entirely to molasses for a richer deeper with just a hint of sweet taste. Great share!
pork n beans was a staple for me growing up! we always had them at cookouts. a grilled burger and chips and pork n beans... perfect
I love that she just says "It's not unpleasant" when I'm sure its awful,, I love her :,)
Emmy, try making Migas. It's a spanish dish. very cheap.
Ingredients:
1 old french loaf or baguette (2-3 days old, dried out and hard)
big pinch of salt
a whole bunch of garlic (at least 7-8 cloves, maybe more), whole
Chorizo (mild), diced
Olive Oil
Water
Prep:
Blend up the old baguette until you have fairly coarse breadcrumbs
add water and salt over them and mix them around until all the breadcrumbs are soaked pretty wet but not dripping, leave in the fridge for a couple hours/overnight.
Pour olive oil into a large pan, medium heat, add peeled whole garlic cloves and diced chorizo and fry lightly until the oil took some colour from the chorizo and the garlic is lightly browned (don't let it go too dark).
Take out the garlic and chorizo and keep in a bowl to the side.
In the same oil, put the breadcrumbs and fry them, continuously stirring on medium heat around 45 min to 1 hour. This is the part that takes the most work and time because you have to constantly poke and stir the breadcrumbs so they lose their moisture and break up. First it will all clump up together but over time it will start to look kind of like small river gravel and be easier to stir. Don't turn up the heat too much or you will just burn it.
After about 45 min you can add your garlic and chorizo back and continue to cook it all together until the breadcrumbs are not soggy anymore but also not dry. They should be slightly crunchy but chewy.
For pictures, google "Migas de los montes de malaga"
I've made flourless cakes with beans before and they were very good! I did chocolate cake with black beans and confetti cupcakes with white beans (basically used the same recipe, just made some modifications.) They're very egg heavy, though.
I probably won't ever make this particular bean cake, though, because of the meat, but I can understand why it works
Emmy is so wholesome.
I just love how excited she gets ...like when she cut into the cake in a can and saw the beans lol
I love pork and beans. I always loved when my mom cooked homemade beans in the pressure cooker and threw in some pork chops. The pork chops would just melt in the mouth and the beans were soooooo good.
The two baked in the cans looked like a science project gone wrong 😂😂😂
Love you Emmy!! You are so much fun! 💗
I often make bean cake much on the lines you demonstrated but without the pork. It works with other canned pulses too.
I grew up eating Van de Kamps pork & beans. It wasn't till I was an adult that I first ate baked beans. Much prefer baked! :)
Love your new space EMMY!
Thank you!
I would use less sugar.
Happy Mental Health Awareness Month~ Such an appropriate plug, thanks Emmy💕😌
This sounds good to me! That sweet sauce the beans come in would be so good as a cake! How wild!
I was wondering if you would compare it to a spice or carrot cake. The texture, crumb, moisture content looks similar - or similar to a banana bread or amish bread. It honestly doesn't look bad and I can see the beans not lending much to it other than the occasional texture...much like carrots in a carrot cake. If it's similar to any of these things, I think the addition of nuts would be almost natural. Thanks for sharing Emmy!
Yes Emmy! Thanks for partnering with Better Help. I'm in school now to be a counselor and even us students and our professors need someone to talk to right now!
Creamed corn on buttered toast is also awesome!
Quarantine is making Emmy kick the can 👀
Mmmm... not a bad, considering how many Asian cultures use red beans or bean paste fillings in desserts. And the sweetness of either a tomato or molasses sauce adds to the unique flavour! Love the idea of adding chopped walnuts or pecans too !
I would cut half the oil and substitute apple sauce additionally add some apple pie filling and frost it with an American butter cream frosting but mix in some bake baked beans.
The new kitchen space is really coming together! 👏🏽 I have a can of pork and beans that I've been trying to find a use for... this could be it. 😂 Thanks!
😂 Time to bake a cake.
Or just open the can and eat them with a spoon.
Hi Emmi!
Enjoyed this recipe, but what would you eat it with??.along with? Do you think reducing it to 1 cup of sugar would be good or is that too.little bit?
Might make this on one of my bored days , and not tell anyone what's in til after lol
Can you make more playlists please. You have a lot of mini series like hard times and you made what but it's hard to find all of the episodes. Thanks for your videos btw.
I am going to try this tomorrow! JJust have to get the can of pork & beans. Thanks, Emmy!
"I'm having trouble hearing you... ☎️"
Velveeta in the cheesecake & pork 'n beans in the cake. 🤦
Hey Emmy! You should try the Swedish svartsoppa. It’s a soup.
I did the lemons an peppermint stick thing with my sons they loved it. Thanks
Lordy Emmy you are one brave lady. I can’t imagine a cake with beans but more over that much sugar, love you Emmy lol xoxo
My grandma used to cook pumpkin and banana bread in old coffee cans!
Another great steamed bread baked in a can is Boston Brown Bread. It is eaten with Boston Baked Beans and is best cut with a thread. Love steamed breads in a can.
Thank you so much emmymadeinjapan this made my day!
#emmymadeinjapan
I’m new to your channel and absolutely love it! You make such cool things! Hope you’re staying safe xox from NY
Wow. That's a beautiful cake. It's also a great idea. I'm going to try it. Thanks!!!👍😀
I was thinking pineapple would probably be a tasty addition since it’s in so many spice cakes!
My moms friend used to make this for me, more of a loaf cake. So good!!
As someone who hates beans with a passion (even looking at them makes me gag) but I never miss a video of yours because you upload just before I go to bed, because your voice is good to hear before fall asleep
Nighty, night. 😴
I never bought pork & beans, but definitely had them when others made them. I do buy BBQ beans that often have a bit of pork belly in them, though. I've also seen the Heinz beans in tomato sauce and Heinz tomato soup cans in the international sections of US grocery stores, but at ~US$5 a can, a little too pricey. I haven't tried the beans, though I did try the tomato soup, which was pretty good , but not worth that much more than Campbell's.
here in Hawaii we have azuki beans in all sorts of stuff. yum!
I would have thought of that as more of a pork and beans bread instead of cake. It looks so moist and delicious and it looks like because it is from pork and beans it would be slightly sweet. Yum!
Yess Emmy! Member since the Rollie.
Thanks for sticking with me. 👍🏼
I LOVE PORK & BEANS! I would 100% try this.
Bush's Best has a bunch of tasty looking bean dessert recipes on their site. I would love to see somebody try the garbanzo bean cake!
I just sat down with a big bowl of baked beans, & this is the first video I see when I open RUclips
Canned goods have a liner of plastic on the inside. The heat from cooking causes the plastic liner to leach into food. See: microplastic contamination. You should never use canned goods as cooking pans, unless the plastic liner is removed first.
You can get the Heinz canned baked beans here. I don't often see them at the big chain grocery stores. I find them at independent grocers. Honestly they really aren't any different than tasting than any other brand beans. I suspect the Heinz brand is so popular in great Britain because they are the biggest brand in the UK. Everyone grew up eating them post war. Kind of the same way Campbell's soup is so popular in the US. Try and find someone who grew up in post war America that didn't love Campbell's chicken noodle soup when they were a kid. Btw, Heinz also makes canned condensed soups too. I'd be interested on your take on them compared to the Campbell's brand.
Solid Rocket Fuel if you eat two cans of this creation.
I saw a video where they made Fudge, using black beans instead of flour. Just mashed black beans, oil, cocoa, sugar & egg.
Emmy, have you ever had Tomato Preserves? We had them in the 70s; it was so delicious you could eat it straight out of the jar.
I’d love to see an episode with it. You want the Tomato Preserves recipe on the back of the Sure-Jell package, the one with allspice, cloves, and cinnamon.
My mother always served baked beans with hamburgers. I am now a vegetarian since 2000. Turns out baked beans, much nuts, sun flower seeds, processored, a tad flour, IS the best hamburger meat. ...can cooking .. fun.
I looooove Pork & Beans! Hahah used to eat it as an afternoon snack 😆🙈
Why though?? Im confused with how this cake would taste.
I've made black bean brownies, the beans aren't really distinguishable. These are basically blondies, I can see how a sweet barbequeish flavor of the pork would work with that.
I asked the same, why? I thought at first this was a recipe pushed by food producers back in the 50's that encouraged the "frugal housewife" to try new recipes from canned goods that would "delight her family". Did quick research, as I thought, pork and beans were among the first commercial canned goods, going back to 1880's. Boredom: All those cans of beans, gotta use them up, but we can't eat another plate. Safety: Way back then, canned goods were not as safe, they used a tin-lead alloy to seal the cans, use it, don't store it. Diet: Well, it was a way to stretch protein. I wondered if some creative cook in a GoldRush camp came up with this.
Not too bad if you think about adzuki beans. Red bean buns and sweets.
Might be interesting with a slather of butter, similar to how a nut loaf is served.
I genuinely thought that this would be a savoury cake but the out came sugar and vanilla! 😆
I make a pretty mean black bean brownie!! This recipe reminded me of that.
Interesting recipe. (Are you perhaps supposed to puree` the beans before you add them?) I love moist slightly dense cakes like this. 👍
