It’s because they intentionally did it, trying to emulate something like deftones… i wish with all my heart i could somehow get this album in my hands without the fucking vocal effect cos this is truly incredible without it and it slaps so hard live

Me too I just discovred thornhill over the spring break and man these guys from Australia rock.
Originally they were a djent - metalcore band. I love how they managed to pull such a change in their style but still having those low riffs and heavyness here and there.

@@user-ou3pj9yj9t I don't think so. They said it's exactly how they wanted it and I'd say masters would have been sent for vinyl production a while ago to work out the release date. That's just my take - I could be wrong of course.

This sounds great. What happened on the studio versions lol. The vocals are ⚡️here. Those screams are fuckin bomb.
Vocals got buried
They went for a stylistically different approach. I think they were going for a distorted/dreamlike vocal mix, akin to what you would hear in a lot of shoegaze rock and metal (aka Deftones Loathe, etc.). Personally I enjoy it and don't see a problem in the vocals being slightly less front and center in the mix when the instruments are melodic and layered really well like this.
Those screams are inhale screams and those tend to ruin your voice and are in this case not clear at all, like you cant tell what hes screaming. I truly hope he learns how to properly scream one day because that would fit the band very well.

Yeah no shit. Never had a problem with their new sound, it’s just the mixing where you can’t hear Jacobs vocals at all.. I really like it it but wish I could make out the lyrics coz it’s sounds muffled. Still love Thornhill!

@@cesarcastanheira1774 Thornhill, Spiritbox, ERRA, Void Of Vision and Northlane round out my 5. Still putting Thornhill and Spiritbox a cut above. Everything they do is transcending and unique. Northlane last two singles were very safe and forgettable imo.

Ok I didnt fully get the critique on the mixing of the vocals in the other singles before, honestly thought it sounded fine. But after hearing this yeah it would be nice to have his vocals shine a little more. I get the stylistic choice of making it washy and super distorted but this really doe shine a lot more.
