    I would say that you should have not entirely fitting turrets. I would switch back to the Hawkeye anchor as its faster movement would allow for faster target acquisition and therefore higher effectiveness. Additionally, the turrets could use their random movements as a ‘scouting’ phase when no enemies are found. Overall, I would use non-static turrets. However, it is your choice. Also, nice video! Keep up the good work.

  • @KristofferEk
    @KristofferEk 5 лет назад +1

    Lath. you could always build the two techs together with a single block or exploding bolt for ease of centering and spawning alternatively you build it as a single tech but use a rotating anchor in the middle on top of it's own footprint size in blocks to make only the turret rotate while the rest of the tech is anchored. Also V is the Keybind for quick anchoring.

    • @Lathland
      @Lathland  5 лет назад +1

      Haha I'm aware about the keybind, I use it a number of times in the video e.g. 8:56
      As for the exploding bolts, that is indeed a perfectly viable option but I dislike having to constantly rebuild them every time I use them & I don't find not having them too much of an issue!

    • @KristofferEk
      @KristofferEk 5 лет назад

      @@Lathland I was gonna suggest using the ball joints not this morning but I tested it my self and it would have been a valid work around if they actually worked. as in you could hook them together.

  • @ZeroGravitas
    @ZeroGravitas 5 лет назад +1

    Glad you did some reload testing - I was suspicious that the turrets might load back slightly offset and mess themselves up. But it looks like that issue only really happens with co-op creative.
    Incidentally, it should make no difference going further than 1km from the base, with the flying away testing, as techs always unload by ~600m distance and terrain around then too (depending upon your relative position to the world tile grid).
    By the way, are you really going to transfer power *up*? Sky base has more power storage and generation capabilities and the turrets will likely tank all the damage, as closer to ground enemies... :-)

    • @Lathland
      @Lathland  5 лет назад +2

      The idea is more the share the power more than anything! The spire will also have a lovely bit of space to hide some serious power generation itself! So each turret having 3 panels + the spire + the skybase should be enough power to hold off quite a serious attack, is the idea! :)

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas 5 лет назад

      Oh, and the scrapper particle bug has been around a couple of years, it's just new that picking up the scrapper (while it's processing) triggers it. Used to be only when unload the world/area. (It caused my *so* much trouble with filming my Great Ball Contraption build!)
      Can fix by quitting game entirely. I think the devs are fixing this soon. Certainly they've re-prioritised it since a spate of reports. :-)

    Attach the hawkeye rotating anchor to the base itself. As long as the base is anchored, the rotating anchor will still rotate, even if you put it 50 blocks into the air, as long as one other anchor is actually attached to the ground.

    • @Lathland
      @Lathland  5 лет назад

      Just tested this and it doesn't seem to work that way. Adding a rotating anchor to a base which is anchored in a static position means the rotating anchor won't move at all. The rotating anchor needs to be attached to the ground itself and have no secondary attachment points. Additional trying to anchor a secondary tech consisting of a rotating anchor to the static base tech by using the anchor key simply causes the anchor to fail. I've heard this a few times now since the last video, but have no proof it works this way and can't seem to see any way it would work, though I might be missing something or perhaps that's how it used to work at some point early in the games development?

    Lathland I have question, did you find any experimental parts by now (especialy the 2x2x3 axis blocks)? Because those blocks would allow you to make an axis, if you pair them with some propultion mechanism (like the linear motion machine, preferably a pair of them positioned either side of the axis symetricaly) for the AI to use to turn on the axis, you definetely could make a self-aiming turret that could be mounted even on moving vehicles. In fact it propably could be used for some heavy weaponry (and also you could use a axis as a hinge so you could aim your guns with gyros, without tipping your entire craft (you made a video on a tank that you could aim further by the use of gyros)). However, getting these parts is the biggest problem, therfore it isn't the best idea to use them often I imagine.
