    Rather than using multiple motors at different speeds, have you considered having the submunitions at different diameters?
    While they’d have the same rotational momentum, being at different diameters means their linear momentum is different. This way you can easily get three or four coplanar concentric rings of submunitions.
    The different launch angles approach results in non-coplanar rings, which when thrown while the craft isn’t directly vertical will result in mismatched explosion rings creating overlaps and missed areas.
    Admittedly with sufficient saturation this isn’t a problem, but I presume the objective was to create the largest apparent explosion with a tolerable part count.

  • @penguinhero99
    @penguinhero99 4 месяца назад +30

    I wonder if your stability issues were due to the probe core not being in line with the center of mass when it was on the servo. I think that slight offset of it being on the side of the payload fuselage gave it enough of an error to cause that instability once in space.
    If you made a V2 id be interested to see if you could create a probe core/servo contraption to give its full 3 axis rotation while keeping it centered and in line with the rocket

    Cool idea. Technically this isn’t an ICBM but rather a FOBS as it uses an lko for delivery rather than a purely ballistic trajectory. The concept of using spinning to scatter a large number of submunitions exists in ATACMS. In terms of design choices, I personally would have spun up the missile itself rather than using motors and used the interstage nodes on fairings to minimize wobble. Otherwise, great design

    Should really use the robotics controller for taking things past their limits, can just drag the power curves outside of the GUI boundary (or adjust curves to extreme angles for extreme values) for your fireworks, motors, & other parts. The DLC robotics parts are worth messing with & they do not overly trivialize precision airstrikes or automated landings.
    You have more options to adjust stuff before launch & toggles on parts during building remain there when you launch so you don’t have to set them on the pad.

    The reason the rocket kept spinning out is because the probe cores are pretty terrible at controlling the Vector engines. I had a lot of trouble in my saves as well, where the rocket would oscillate and flip over. The probe cores tend to overcompensate with the vector due to its unusually large gimbal range causing a loss of control.
    I solved this in my saves by simply lowering the gimbal range of the vector engines once in orbit, since the gimbal range is great when manually flying the rocket.

    The RCS is stronger for this type of control the further they are from the center of mass, so all of those extra blocks you had near the center of the fuel tank aren't doing anything. The multi-directional blocks are also not really doing you many favors. For controlling something rocket booster sized, try the vernor engines instead. They're a single-nozzle RCS with a lot more thrust that run on the main rocket fuel tank (no monopropellant required). A ring of 4 of those down by the engines will have you flying straight in no time.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one with that weird black shadow artifacting at the launch pad. I wonder what's up with that.

    Have you ever heard of a game called flyout? Its a really cool game (that my poor laptop can't even run at the lowest settings) and you basically just build custom aircraft. I think they are also adding some kind of atmosphere soon. They might have already added it.

    your main issue is that ICBMs are multi stage rockets with ballistic trajectories. the point of the rocket is to lift the payload and set it on a path to reach its target. you spend a ton of fuel trying to get into orbit and then de orbit as if youre trying to land a rocket, but a ballistic trajectory is not orbital. fire the missile, aim it toward the target, dump the payload, and let it cruise to its destination

    I would totally recommend Juno new origins, it has more customizable parts and a coding system, it seems like it would fit well with your play style
