- As one of the founders of Uncle Tupelo, Jeff Tweedy helped jumpstart the alt-country movement in the early 1990s. But in Wilco - the band that rose from Uncle Tupelo’s ashes - the singer-songwriter set his sights on more ambitious musical adventures. Explore Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in this episode of Liner Notes.

Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in 5 Minutes - Видеоклипы
This album is depressing, uplifting, haunting, and utterly beautiful all at the same time. Every track is golden and I never get tired of listening to it. Wilco made something special with this album.
Justin Lu Word. It's hard for me to put into words how much it means to me.
The Liner Notes series is some of the best content you guys produce.
Mick Jagger hell ya
*the only tolerable content
Mick Jagger *the only good content
The very definition of an album that creeps onto you, quietly, until you realise you can't live without it.
Also I didn't know until now that Jim O'Rourke had a hand in producing the album. This is a revelation to me.
its such a strange experience realizing how many of your favorite albums he had his hands in.
JESUS DONT CRY YOU CAN RELY ON ME HONEY
palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
One of the best and one of my favorite albums of all time. It's hard to put into words how much Yankee Hotel Foxtrot means to me. It's a very cathartic album to listen to in many ways, and usually brings tears. They've many amazing albums, but this album is on another level entirely. A modern masterpiece. Wilco will love you, baby.
Totally agree, I'll never get tired of it.
My favorite part of YHF is how in Reservations you can hear the piano bench creak as he leans forward and back with every chord. At least that's what it sounds like to me.
I recently rediscovered this album. Then watched the movie. Then these liner notes. Thanks for pointing me to those creaks. Beautiful. I can't un hear them now.
One of my favorite records of all time.
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot & A Ghost Is Born are outstanding albums by Chicago's own.
Talking Heads-Remain in Light next please
hammerman2006 I'd love to see this one!
I´m agree with you
Good news!
I was working at Tower Records when I got "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" as a promo CD. I had loved "Being There."
When I heard "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" for the first time, it blew my mind. But it can take some listens to grasp.
What about Summerteeth?
Best album of that decade.
okrajoe kid a tho
Kid a, is this it, Marshall mathers lp?
In Rainbows too.
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Great album. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was dubbed the "American Kid A" when it came out. I regret not going to see Wilco live while promoting this album.
I’m really glad I decided to listen to this album. There’s so many varying emotions packed into each song; it’s utterly beautiful
"Lift your skinny fists..." next?
totally!
I'm not going outside. - March 20, 2020.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor's LYSFLATH would be nice. Linernotes is one of my favourite formats on RUclips
Do Bloc Party's "Silent Alarm" next!
Such a great album, so many layers to unravel. It's definitely in my top 5, if not my top 2 favorite albums. It's mean't so much to me over the years. It's hard to pick a favorite song, but right now I'm really loving "Poor Places." I think every band wishes they could make something like this. Thanks for the great overview, Pitckfork! -- Stefan / The Electric Splash
this album reminds me of edward hopper paintings. They both resonate that nice fragrance of pure american melanchaly.
Definite top 10 album of all time.
These are so interesting. Thank you for these vids. Keep making more please!!
Like a girl once told me, this album is pure poetry.
Broken Social Scene You Forgot it in People
A Liner Notes devoted to Kate Bush's Hounds of Love would be amazing!
Greatest album of all time
RIP guy who overdosed and died and thus Wilco died with him.
You mean Jay Bennett? Yeah, he was THE secret formula of Wilco's sound.
These videos are amazing !!!!
such an inspiring album
Finishing touches? Jim O'Rourke completely reshaped the songs from it's demo versions
their best and most consistent album thus far.
more like this pleaseee!!!
YES TY PITCHFORK
Please make a master playlist of liner notes
The progression of Being There, Summerteeth and YHF reminds me a lot of Rubber Soul to Revolver to Sgt Pepper. Cranks up a notch each time and increasingly gets experimental. You can make comparisons to A Ghost is Born and the White album 🤔
That opening song sounds like In Between Days by the Cure.
Greatness!
edtiing reminds me of wes anderson, good stuff
If it weren’t for the bias in ranking landmark era (‘65-‘75) albums as the best, this album should be among the best. In my top 5, in fact.
Alright, Pitchfork! Now do Sky Blue Sky!....oh, wait
This is my jam
I need Remain in light, or fear of music but surely will be the first.
An album that’s been very tough to top since its release.
Glenn is the most underrated member in the band.
He’s pretty well known in the drumming community at least! regularly makes the cover of drum! Or modern drummer magazines
I can't wait for the Sgt. Peppers album.
I.M.O that is their sgt peppers .
She fell in love with the drummer :(
Understanding Ryan Adam’s Heartbreaker!!
Demon days and doolittle
Do Jagged Little Pill!
Nirvana - In Utero next please
Sparks' Kimono My House or The Kinks Village Green Preservation Society!
do aeroplane please
the unicorns who will cut our hair when we're gone
Whats that last song in the credits?
Fabian Salomonsson Kamera
More this, less "top 10 rihanna" please pitchfork.
Weezer's self-titled next time?
Which, lol
@@Mari99528 the first one, obviously. The others are just okay at best imo
what song is played at @0.59
War on war
@@drax14QC tnx, already found out later thst day 😆
@@blazsovdat8677 hahaha after a year I'd hope so. Do you like the album ?
@@drax14QC yes, is wilco your fav band?
Jesus, etc will always be my go to when I feel sad but hopeful
*Ko-Chee intensifies*
Fuck yes dad rock
Myles Carew >YHF >Dadrock >pick one
Lol dad rock? Probably cause their stuff after Jay Bennett left doesn't really compare to their old stuff
this came out 15 years ago. There are few dads that old yet
Because of Boyhood?
I think they had fathers 15 years ago
Prefer AGIB.
I expected to hear Yankee Hotel Foxtrot compressed into 5 minutes, not this garabge, this SUCKS!!1!
I've heard an entire Wilco show; there's just nothing there. Tons of ordinary performers can be strikingly better. I wouldn't pay Tweedy to play a backyard birthday party.
