"The Whole Love" album was just a masterpiece. It doesn't get enough credit in their discography. It was an incredibly inspired set of songs and the best thing since "YHF" or "Being There", IMO. You could tell during that whole period of promoting the album and playing shows that Tweedy was really happy with that record.

    • @antonjw

When I listen to some of these songs played live, as per this set, I think I could easily agree.
I never liked the production on that record, though. I think that's what put me off, and those songs went past me until lately.
Think they recaptured their recording mojo with Star Wars & Schmilco (particularly), though.

Lived down the street from Bob & JoAnn Tweedy. Lucked out one spring day & caught the Wilco crew playing wiffle ball in the street. Jeff was gracious enough to autograph my copy of the A.M. cd jacket. That was 1996. My daughter was 7 years old. Now she is a budding folk artist. At the time she had no idea what she was gifted by Jeff. Now at 23 she's a bonafide fan!

    I've been young
    I've been old
    I've been hurt
    and consoled
    Heart of coal
    Heart of gold
    So I'm told
    I've been lost
    I've been found
    I've been taken
    by the sound
    My own worries
    and voices in my head
    I can't help it if I fall
    In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
    It dawned on me
    Every night
    Is a test
    To the east
    From the west
    The sun rises
    And it sets
    As the sun
    At its best
    I forget
    That I know
    I regret
    Letting you go
    Sometimes
    I can't believe
    How dark it can be
But I can't help it if I fall
    In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
    It dawned on me
    Dawned on me
    So far
    And so forth
    And again
    I will stop
    To begin
    at the end
    I can't help it if I fall
    In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
    It dawned on me
    I can't help it if I fall
    In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
    It dawned on me

Nice man. Could you pick a favorite out of those three shows? I'm curious because I assume the setlists must've been near-identical. What a phenomenal live act!

I went to Rio, the 1st one in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. Definitely, the one in Rio was the best. The crowd was really mad, singing guitar parts and all. one of the best shows ever!

Total definition of a band - all playing to serve the song. Special shout out to Glenn - it defies description all the nuance he adds.

Great bassist, tight harmonies, strong songwriting, and just a really fun little performance from a good band I've never really listened to before.
I like the descending to chaos ending on Born Alone. Reminds me of the "everybody's gone nuts" part of "I am the Walrus."
Now I gotta find more Wilco music.

Last year Wilco played in Barcelona, in a big theatre where only operas and classical concerts are allowed. (Liceu theatre) I guess that promoter knew that Wilco fans could stand in their sits enjoying the show without destroying the place. Wilco is the one and only rock band who have played there. Full respect for them and their fans (BTW Nels Cne is one of he best guitar player I've heard in years)
