"Born Alone"
"War On War"

My dad would play Wilco in the car every day after he’d pick me up from kindergarten. Their music is some of the first music I ever liked and they’ll always play a big part in my life. Those were the days.
Wilco is very “brought up in America” kind of music. Very nostalgic
The tribe called quest is pretty amazing as well
You have good taste, thank you dad lol. Low end theory!
good dad alert
That's in a movie...
Wilco is, in all likelihood, the greatest band to not have a single hit, in the history of American music.
They are what I call "The musician's musician", I know they have great popularity here in Kansas! But yeah they are hidden gems just like their peers The Jayhawks. ever hear of their supergroup Golden Smog?
True enough. The Grateful Dead are close, but there was Touch of Grey that hit the charts.
@@joedoyle5 it took 25 years to get that hit
@@joedoyle5 yeah great example or should i say "grate" ugh but yes both stellar bands
Phish needs to be in the conversation as well
This tiny desk was so influential to me as a musician. It got me into Wilco and tiny desk. I think maybe the most meaningful music video for me ever.
"The Whole Love" album was just a masterpiece. It doesn't get enough credit in their discography. It was an incredibly inspired set of songs and the best thing since "YHF" or "Being There", IMO. You could tell during that whole period of promoting the album and playing shows that Tweedy was really happy with that record.
When I listen to some of these songs played live, as per this set, I think I could easily agree.
I never liked the production on that record, though. I think that's what put me off, and those songs went past me until lately.
Think they recaptured their recording mojo with Star Wars & Schmilco (particularly), though.
Wilco always makes me feel I’m living my best life
Coolest "casual day" at any office anywhere EVER!!!!!!!!

Tiny Desk Concert - The celebration of triumphs of music experence. Everyboy's music. Everyday's music. Thanks.
"Now, let's trash this dump!" The last soundbite heard at the end of this video. I've probably only just focused on this for the first time since listening to this performance over and over.
My Daughter played Wilco for me today. I looked at her and said "Do you know how many Wilco CDs I have?" She said "alot or you wouldnt have said that". Smart ass kid, but I love that she knows and likes Wilco.
very nice jeff!
I got introduced to Jethro Tull by a 14 year old today...feels kinda good
that response was perfect
I assume that it was Yankee Hotel? Let’s introduce her to Joni Mitchell
😂😂😂
Best tiny concert ever.
Incredible talent. We're blessed to be witnesses of such greatness.
Tweeds lookin happy!!
Whoever mixed this knows a thing or two. I mean, they're in an office.
cheers from Mexico!
Currently listening to "Fade Away" - Stoll Vaughan . Great alt-country artist!
Boy, are they looking old. Not me though. Oh, damn! I'm not immune...
"War on War" is what got me through the "war".
Thanks, Wilco!
Always liked this band a lot b
Nobody does it better . . Wilco4Ever
Shoutout to Tweedy's 100 year old strings. Dig that sound 😍
wow is wilco is great
cutest drum set ever!
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was released 10 years ago this week... Time indeed does fly.
Remember crowds?
Amazing how good these guys are. No one can sound that good with such basic equipment (well, Buddy Holly and The Beatles excepted.)
Nailed it
I love the desk drum!
I'm a better person for having watched this.
I like this version of Dawned on Me better.
Amazing!!!
How can anyone dislike this video?
Oh gosh, that second song.
Awesome !!!
"Dawned On Me" sounds like Rutles - "I must be in Love"
Wonderful through the last fade-out moment. Like Folgers, lol.
Is the drummer playing a notebook on the second track?? Ace
Wilco is an american treasure...
Born Alone was great sans drum set!
I love you Jeff Tweedy!
Wow!
LOVE IT!
1:06 ...I always wanted to learn how to play a cupcake.
Whole Love electric guitar sounds a little like Kevin Morby's sounds of the City ... but that drumset though -
Jeff was born to be on camera
13:20 "What sweetheart?, Oh, he's just sleepy."
I don't get the drum arrangements, are those little rubberband boxes being amplified only by ambient microphones? Super cool!
haha I don't really know. I'm not particularly religious. Just some sort of goofy farewell I suppose. Anyway, I'm glad this conversation ended politely. Sometimes it seems like people only use the internet as a place to get mad and argue about the most insignificant things.
3:26 Is he playing drums on a grinder?!?!
.
I didn't know Dana Carvey played guitar and sang backup in Wilco....
13:18 Werner Zieeeeeegler??
THATS HOW ITS DONE!
this is just the best thing in life
You have some great taste in music. What all music do you guys listen to? A lot of neo-soul too i think? I hear a lot of great music in your videos!
I love you man.
Samantha fish
nefarious hawthorn phish phish
Wilco and sourdogh!
Wow.. my buddy told me about these guys like 15 years ago.. tried listening and didn’t get it. There are stages in life when your just not ready for something. Just tuned in to check it out, and couldn’t leave. By the end, nothing but smiles, thanks Wilco. True joy
You should reach out to your old buddy and let him know that both your brain and your ears have evolved
Same experience
Thats the best way
What a fancy drum kit.
Pero si son los chachis
worthy of the genius
I have that same kit!!

I had NO IDEA who Wilco was before I watched this video. This is f%*king AWESOME!!! The band, the idea, you gotta love NPR and what you are doing with the series is cool beyond words. Beautiful to see.
Good on you
This is easily the best RUclips comment of the 2010s. I can't believe I haven't seen it until now. Cheers!
God love for figuring it out!
Man, Glenn can play ANYTHING and make it sound good. He's an amazing drummer. And I love the fact that he has no problem playing something really simple if that's what the song calls for (which is the best quality of any drummer).
NorthWriter well said...
I've seen the band on Wednesday and completely agree. To see Glenn on the drumkit is absolutely fascinating. A wonderful drummer!
Honestly they didn't even need a drummer for this show. If they're not going to give him anything to work with and put him so low in the mix/not mic him, what's the point?
@@suburbanindie i think the precision, minimal as it is, would be missed in this set. He seems perfectly content, even enjoying the novel kit he's working with.
@@suburbanindie🤔 i meant percussion .
Not to discount Wilco but that humble guy in the background second from the right is the legendary experimental jazz guitarist Nels Cline.
HOLY SHIT
He’s unbelievable (ie Impossible Germany) but goes to show you the pull of Tweedy leading the band.
He has always been their guitar man as far as I knew. Totally underrated in rock n roll, but anyone good is nowadays
and you're SURE that's not Alex Cline???
@@mickeycoldcuts1919 phenomenally talented
They should change the name of this video to "How to become a Wilco fan in less than 20 minutes"
I've never heard these guys before (of course, I'm ancient!), but I really enjoyed their music and their performance. The jazz guitar and oddball percussion truly adds excellent textures to the songs. I think this concert has made me a fan.
I agree. I was watching a tweedy video when wilco was suggested.
The band name wilco was familiar, but this was the first time i watched one of their videos. I turned 60 yesterday (creeping up on ancient)
And will certainly look for more
Wilco. I think it will be a great way to start the day.
"You have to learn how to die if you wanna wanna be alive"
One of my favorite lyrics ever
Yep me too
I listen to this about once a month and ten years later it hasn't aged a day.
What is this, a drumset for ants?!
Magnum
Ferrari
Le Tigre
Blue Steel
+Glockade Notice the "Tiny" in "Tiny desk"?
Noticed the other Tiny Desk Concerts where a normal size drumset is present?
it's beautiful!!!!!
He has a similar "tiny percussion" set that he uses both in recording and on stage for some songs. Glenn is a god.
Their song Whole Love gets me everytime. Wilco is one of the best bands ever.
Glenn over there just playing a PADDED ENVELOPE. lol
Lol😂Right? I thought he was playing a piece of phyllo dough😂
I remember that feeling. A buddy of mine came over and said "You have to hear this!" He put on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and we listened to the whole thing, start to finish. It is my all-time favorite album to this day. If you're looking for a good starting point, that is the album I would recommend.
the "raw" files of the Conet project documenting all the shortwave radio numbers stations in itself is super weird/cool listening
Being There is not to be missed
Uh uh. Being There is a masterpiece. Ignoring that double album would be like ignoring Basement Tapes, London Calling, and Exile on Main St. and saying "yea, I really like The Band, Clash, and Stones."
Nels Cline. John Stirratt. Glenn.. They are all so fantastic together. I feel very lucky to be alive in this time to see this. Thank You Jeff and Wilco. ♡
That first track, the bass line in the chorus and the whole thing are just complete bliss. The melody is so endearing.
Yeah! I just love that bass!
The Tiny Desk Concert series is absolutely amazing.
I've been young
I've been old
I've been hurt
and consoled
Heart of coal
Heart of gold
So I'm told
I've been lost
I've been found
I've been taken
by the sound
My own worries
and voices in my head
I can't help it if I fall
In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
It dawned on me
Every night
Is a test
To the east
From the west
The sun rises
And it sets
As the sun
At its best
I forget
That I know
I regret
Letting you go
Sometimes
I can't believe
How dark it can be
But I can't help it if I fall
In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
It dawned on me
Dawned on me
So far
And so forth
And again
I will stop
To begin
at the end
I can't help it if I fall
In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
It dawned on me
I can't help it if I fall
In love with you again
I'm calling just to let you know
It dawned on me
Wonderful. These guys owe a lot to the Rutles. (This is just an observation. I truly like the Rutles. Oh, and I am the walrus is in here, too, of course.)
Beautiful
Brilliant song
Saw them a on a moonlit night outside at Avondale Brewery in Birmingham AL recently with the smoke from Saw’s BBQ next door drifting over the stage. Inspired night for the little crowd and the band I think. Always great. Always Wilco.
There has never been another rock band who can manage to present such dynamic songs with acoustic instruments as Wilco can. Each member plays a role in the overall sound with no egos in sight.
desktop percussions!!! :) jihijhij... I am thrilled and delighted. Two thumbs up to fellow percussionist, the lack for space for the propper drumset opened enough room for creativity and innovation. Way to go!
I never listened to this band, but then I found this girl. Looks like I have some time to make up for.
I have never before felt an almost irresistible urge to brush another mans hair.
***** yeah he kind of looks and sings like and Irish wolf hound
you havnt seen my hair.
Hobie chic apparently. Apparently. I've never had the urge to reply to such a ridiculous comment son. Apparently😎
Hoboe ha lol
It dawned on you, then
dawned on me - 0:10
whole love - 4:17
born alone - 9:10
war on war - 14:27
Thank you.✌🏻❤️
Have a Great day ❤️❤️
Ty
This rendition of Whole Love is phenomenal…
That little girl in the front row is so freaking lucky... you KNOW this will impact her life forever in such a positive way! ♥ #justsaying
Made me smile when he hit those high notes perfect on 'Whole Love'
why does this band always leave me feeling nostalgic
I love them but sometimes it hurts to listen to them. They're the only band that makes me feel melancholy but joyous at the same time. It's hard to listen to them...
Maybe the denim?
It’s real music. And it’s real!
Lived down the street from Bob & JoAnn Tweedy. Lucked out one spring day & caught the Wilco crew playing wiffle ball in the street. Jeff was gracious enough to autograph my copy of the A.M. cd jacket. That was 1996. My daughter was 7 years old. Now she is a budding folk artist. At the time she had no idea what she was gifted by Jeff. Now at 23 she's a bonafide fan!
woke up today hating everything, nice to stumble upon something I love
Glen playing a cupcake and someone's Bento box while they are at a meeting is priceless. I wish he could take a call on that phone thingy while he's playing.
Well, that was feckin awesome eh?
I would love to play in this band.
If you don't hit your mark, Jeff Tweedy beats you.
Being beaten by Jeff Tweedy with that Gibson J-200 acoustic guitar would pretty well be the highlight of my career as a musician...
War on War FTW!! That sounded FANTASTIC!! My favorite band, and rightfully so, tearing it up! Love these guys!!
You never know what instruments you’ll see at a Wilco concert 😂. But you know it’s gonna be GREAT.
I love the band. Makes me want to pick up my acoustic guitar again.
Man just found this, feels like I’ve met an old friend whew. Thanks Wilco
I felt the same way when I found them! Have you explored their other stuff? They’re fantastic.
I love this. Those melodic bass lines! Such good songwriting.
Just love the notion of 6 guys with nothing better to do than gettin' together and revisiting a bedrock environment with some heartfelt tunes of their own making.
The drum kit gives Neil Peart's kit a run for its money.
Dunno if this is amusing or not, but around 11 or so years ago a coworker of mine turned me onto Wilco and we went to see a concert after work after hitting a few jazz bars and drinking wine until the show opened. During the concert a guy seated next to me spilled my drink and my coworker dumped her margarita on his head, security was called and I asked if I could go with them as they were taking her away and I was trying to smooth things over and she blurted out "It's okay WE are CHEMISTS!" I just about lost it and finally convinced security that she would behave and we got to enjoy the music. Just a short Wilco concert story
Ah yes! The old “we’re chemists” ruse. So long as you don’t overuse it? It Does the trick.
I just read this. Great story! Thanks!
The guys in Wilco seem to genuinely like each other's company.
These Guys are an awesome band
I can't stop thinking about how this day was probably one of the best days in these people's lives.
I love this so much. Their little bouncing movements keeping time makes it feel so intimate.
Heaven is where the radio station just plays Wilco, Nick Drake, and the Beatles for eternity.
There a very few bands I can listen to almost constantly and not need a break for awhile to re-appreciate. Obviously Wilco are one of them.
People may not like Jeff but he's one of the premiere song writers of our time.
People don't like him?
Why wouldnt they like him
As a straight male who loves everything Wilco, I actually think he's a good looking guy. He's not the stereotypical "handsome" but he's a unique individual, kinda scraggly. I like that.
Just because you think he's unattractive doesn't mean he is. Attraction is not universally defined. Good night.
Don't know how many times I've listend to this ......Just LOVE IT ! ! ! !
Mandatory NELS!!!! One of the best guitarist ever The solo on “Born Alone” is one of the best sequences ever... feels hopeful and alive just incredible
