Another great video, keep up the amazing work. Your reviews go much more in depth and really give us (the consumer so many details in these comparisons that the big reviewers leave out. Can't wait to see you hit it big time and thank you for all the amazing work.
Really great information. For now I'm using novablast 4 for my daily, and novablast 3 for faster work. Once these wear out I'll look at the superblast 2. I
Again some great analysis. As a 78kg runner I tended to use the SB and now SB2 as a long run / easy run shoe, it just keeps my legs nice and protected without the Nimbus style squish. AP3 for longer races and TS10 for speed work/10k/5k races
Great way to break down the lineup of trainers ASICS offers. I followed your advice and just completed my rotation, adding the magic speed 3 as my speed work trainer (on sale for $99). Alongside, my everyday novablast 4 and long run/race day superblast 2! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Just discovered you and your remarkable reviews. Such revelatory details that tell me more useful, clear and dare I say actually fascinating information about the shoes than any other running review channel by far. So happy to have found your channel!
Having seen some of yopur videos, I have to say, that I really enjoy them. Honest in depth reviews, tests and experiance, very well put together, without fuss or bias, also how you present the shoes and facts + your calm voice are really nice. Not over the top and also not boring to fall asleep when tired. I rarely give this, but this is a well deserved subscription! The shoes: I just got home from a run in the rain with my Novablast 4 TR. No problem after all in the rain, on wet asphalt, also a trail through the woods with pretty steep incline and decline was covered: no problems after all. So, IF Novablast: get the TR version. Just the rubber profile is deeper. The few grams more you aren't able to notice. More grip and longevity you will! Do it also if it is just a road shoe for you - there is NO reason to get NB4 when you can get NB4 TR... maybe except you want one of those fancy coloiurs ;) Superblast I took a half size smaller than Novablast. maybe because I had too much room? The US 11,5 / EU 46 has 290 JPN written on it and the US 11 / EU 45 has 285mm JPN written on it (als all Asics runnig shoes have), and my own measurements say that my longer right foot is 284mm long. So, yes, I am really full at the fron in the Superblast(1), but it doen't feel like it is too small or that i destroy may toes / toenails. Also the fit is better (i have a very low instep, general a very low volume foot and heel, not more than the lower side of medium width feet, everything else is good and healthy, normal/higher arches, etc). I tend to use the lace loop on the Superblast, whereas on the NB4 TR (US 11,5 / EU 46 / 290mm) today (man I LOVE the laces of that one!) i did them normal and everything was good. For heavier runners like me, 90kg/180m/athletic but with like 10kg fat in addition, the Novablast 4 gets less bouncy after like an hour or so? So the foam doesn't decompress / returns energy like in the beginning. Maybe it starts to bottom out a bit? The cesond run in them, for me a logn run, 1h30 speed, it felt hard and bottomed out, but today, like the 4th run in them, WAY slower, with stops in between etc, 1:50h felt better than the 1:30 race pace then. I don't know... maybe it's just because my quads weren't that tired? Superblast: Just did 1 small practise run (like 5k+) in them and after testing shoes and running trail, I'l get back to them and see how my expensive purchase really performs in real life :) Superblast 2 just a minor update, so just run your SB1 until they are done or if the SB2 is available in a nice colour you want ;)
I appreciate the kind words and support. Thank you. Well written observations as well. I have never found a need for the TR version of the NB, the NB4 has a great outsole. However, I do find the SB2 outsole very similar to the TR versions Asics has offered prior. I'm wondering if they jsut won't make that the default for the NB5. Totally agree aboutt he NB4 and heavier runners. That is where the more structures and firmer foam in the Superblast comes in clutch. The two work together wonderfully.
Agree that NB4 and SB could be a 2-shoe rotation. As a 4-hr marathoner the Superblast is the perfect race shoe for me. I don't have the strength to take advantage of the plate (tried the Endorphin Pro 3) so the SB is just right. Much gentler on the legs too, I could still run the day after a marathon.
Completely agree on the Magic Speed 3 being the best tempo trainer. The combination of a race day upper with the full carbon plate in the FF Blast+ midsole is pure perfection. I am not a fan of the overhaul/direction of the Magic Speed 4 and will not be purchasing one. Luckily, I only have about 150 miles on my MS3 so plenty of life left. The MS3 is such an underrated shoe that gets overlooked by nearly every other reviewer. Thanks again for your continued quality content.
The MS3 was near perfection...that upper and the fit were so SO good. I don't even like FFBlast+...but combined with that super stiff CF plate it worked. I will say the new Metaspeed Paris series has a similar (but much more dynamic) feel. Another reason the MS4 doesn't need to exist.
My current line-up: Daily/Interval: Hyperspeed 3 Long run/ long tempo: Superblast Racing: MetaSpeed Sky Paris (feels like a plated Superblast) The addition of the Hyperspeed really has made a huge difference in helping me run better. I crave that ground connectedness. It’s so light, flexible, and it has some snap to it coming from the simple FlyteFoam. Btw, this is a very good video.
If you want a cushioned and stable shoe, the NB4 really is the best option. The Adidas Supernova Rise would be the next one I’d recommend, though it is much lower stacked.
Only had chance to put 30k on my SB2 this last week owing to flu, but I think that it’s the best shoe I’ve ever worn. It’s a joy to run in at this early stage. Great vid as per usual, so incredibly detailed and informative, excellent stuff.
Another great video , love your in depth explanation and charts of what a shoe use is exactly for and where it sits in a rotation, with so many shoes on the market your videos are so helpful for us viewers when building a rotation . With other Chanel’s reviews I have experienced this shoe will do everything it’s the only shoe you’ll need and then you find out it does not . SB1 was an example of this I love that shoe but soon realised it wasn’t the one shoe that can do everything people made it out to be . I disliked it for easy /recovery days like you said .
I mean you CAN do it all in the SB… even the easy/recovery stuff. But that is not the sweet spot for it. The Superblast is uniquely one of the few shows you legitimately can do it all in, some types of running better than others, but all of it with no compromise. But the SB IS much better as a specialist. Thank you for the kind words on the content. I’m glad it’s value! 🤙🏻
With the exception of the Hyperspeed (which is hard to find), I use the Metaspeed LD for track work, and the Sky Paris vs the Edge Paris, you just described my current rotation. Thx, Chris.
Yes, the Hyper Speed is always hard to find… not sure why. Here in Taiwan we just got the HS3…. Hopefully the HS4 will show up sooner. The Metaspeed LD is an interesting shoe, sadly only a track flat though. The Hyper Speed has the versatility of track and road…. Up there with the Adios. Interesting use case though.
I ran a sub 3:30 marathon in Novablast recently. No problems. Vaporfly3 gave me bad heels. Had much issues with carbonshoes after PF for 16+ months. So based upon your video Superblast ought to give me an even better experience? Metaspeed I don't have yet, hard to get, and will my feet tolerate them?
It's curious how I couldn't tolerate running on a Vaporfly 3 for longer than 10k (bad heels, really uncomfortable I rushed at home to get them out of my foot) and couldn't pick up the pace at all. I felt so good with Novablast (maybe I am more sensitive to the rocker?) and made my PR on the 10k recently. I bought a Magic Speed 4 now with the hope that is a faster Novablast.
@@SalvatoreSittinieri Interesting! I have had the same issues with some of the best in the Xtep lineup, struggled with bad heels already halfway through a 10K race😅. Magic Speed might be of interest for the shorter races, up to 10k. Have you any experiences/issues with Metaspeed in longer races?
Not sure if this is a hot take, but I prefer using the Evoride Speeds and Magic Speed 4, over my Superblast (I havent tried the SB 2s), for tempo and marathon-pace long runs. I've mostly been relegating the SB to TLC and slower long runs, while leaving my Metaspeeds for races.
If you like overly rockered shoes, then this is the way to go. Asics really has three competing lineups...the "new" models (NB/MS/SB), legacy (Cumulus/Nimbus) and the rockered (Evoride, etc). It can be very confusing...
Great breakdown! Unless I missed it, one day I hope you can do a breakdown like this with Brooks; they fit me really well although I don't really like running in their typical trainers (Ghost, Glycerin, etc) since I prefer lighter shoes. I'm loving the Hyperion Max 2. I can run slow, but it wants you to pick it up. I ran in the Adidas SL2s for the first time yesterday and that was a bit better at slower paces for me.
I'm a fan of the Ghost Max, I may cover the Ghost Max 2 (I have alot on my plate right now though). I may also cover the Hyperion 2 this fall...but again, alot on my plate at the moment. I will see what they do for 2025. Brooks is a brand I definitely follow but am not always a fan of what they put out.
Its all that rocker that limits it. I've held the Evoride Speed in my hands a few times and am always shocked with all the rocker it has. It's insane. Plus I'm not a fan of FFBlast+. The Hyper Speed 4 is a much better and more interesting shoe for what you need it for, especially in the rotation shown in this video.
Great video! You mentioned the Hyper Speed 4 as part of the rotation and I was wondering if the Hyper Speed 3 would be just as good since it’s on sale for $70. The Hyper Speed 4 is almost an ounce heavier than the 3 per ASIC’s Website but apparently has more cushioning. I was also looking at the Evoride Speed 2 which is also on sale and looks fairly similar to the Hyper Speed but maybe a little higher stack (the stack height isn’t listed). There is hardly any info on these shoes online and practically nobody is reviewing them on RUclips.
The HS3 is a little lower and a little narrow, a great flat, but the HS4 is a little more stable for all around running, IMO. But yes, the HS3 is a great shoe. The Evo Ride is very rockered, which I’m not a fan of for daily training or speed work.
Got my sb2 yesterday and put 10kms zone 2 easy run on it. It felt firm at first but then eased on during the run. Resiliency is good. The say it needs 50kms or more to break it in so will put it through its paces to see how it really feels. Been running on new balances for awhile, put on 150kms on the NB Balos. So these 2 pairs are my trainers for now. Dont have the novablast btw but i suppose its comparable to my Balos or the 1080v13 in terms of softness.
@ I’m 54 and my knees are shot and can not run fast unfortunately. My pb for a half marathon is 6:50/km which is not that outstanding but it’s just enough to finish decently. Been hearing a lot of good things about the superblast thats why I had to get one. Thanks for responding.
Great video! Question: I'm currently using the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 for my speed days, and the Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 for my zone 2 and long runs. I will eventually be adding the Superblast 2 to my rotation as my long run shoe and was wondering your overall thoughts on this rotation and if you recommend I add a race day shoe like the Metaspeed Sky Paris for my first marathon or would it be completely fine to run it in the Superblast 2 after using it for a 16~ week training block? Thank you in advance!
Good rotation and you have the three areas covered that I'd look for (per my chart). The SB2 will handle training AND racing, just fine. However....it depends on what your goal is for the marathon. if it's just completing it, go with the SB2. If you want to hit a time goal, under 4 hours, considering a carbon plated shoe. You'll appreciate the carbon in the final 1/4 of the race...
@@SagasuRunning In the last 1/4 you don't appreciate anything! But seriously I'm not sure a carbon plate is for everybody. If you're a slower runner and even slower in that last 1/4 of the race, the carbon plate can feel harsh.
It can go both ways…. But the CF plate, in that last 1/4 can help to support the foot and roll you through your stride. Any little extra helps at that point. Especially if you are trying to reach a time goal. If just cruising to complete…. The SB2 is ideal.
The NB is the daily trainer in the Asics lineup. The SB is a long run trainer for marathon building, not a daily trainer. So definitely not redundant and likely the better shoe for the vast majority of people trying to decide between the two.
Fantastic video. I rarely run past 10 km and I have a brand new novablast 4 waiting for me. But an itch is an itch and I really want the superblast instead. And it’s 100% due to psychological factors like scarcity. If anyone’s read Cialdini’s Influence…
excellent explanation/ comparison as always. couldn't agree more with the sentiment towards the toebox of the NB4. as a lighter 135lbs forefoot/midfoot striker, i find the NB4 to be quite dull for whatever reason. it kind of zaps my energy. wondering if in contrast, i would get on w the SB2 as i haven't tried V1 and don't really care for the NB4
The SB2 will likely feel even more "zapping" to you...until you really start to get into marathon pace or above and then it will come alive. This is especially true for a lighter runner.
@@SagasuRunning interesting, i never really understood the MP argument as it varies for everyone. one's MP might be 4:45km while for someone else that's their easy pace. i'm a big fan of the AP3 for long runs and workouts that are usually at HM pace 3:41km - 10km pace 3:28km. I like a shoe that's propulsive/responsive. perhaps that's the SB2? sadly the NB4 doesn't do it for me, thinking the SL2 might be a good replacement. i know it's a bit off topic but would you say the SL2 has a similar snugness to the toebox as the NB4 does?
MP is relative. It’s more about the amount of force you are putting into the ground. It’s a yardstick but something we can all share as we all know what our own “MP” is. Compared to the AF3…. The SB2 is not propulsive. So you may be disappointed. The SL2 is an adidas shoe and has a slightly more snug fit. I prefer the SL2 fit to either the NB4 or SB2 though.
Great video as always. Apologies if this gets asked often I am a newer viewer. Any plans to cover any new balance shoes anytime soon? I would love to hear your opinions on them.
No plans for covering New Balance anytime soon. I've been shockingly disappointed with their design and engineering for their 2024 shoes and unless something changes in 2025 I don't expect to even bother. Sorry.
Thanks for the video this is excellent analysis. With the 2 or 3 shoe rotation, I’m a little concerned that they are all super cushioned, elevated shoes. Do you think it’s worth including a lower stack shoe and if so which would you recommend?
Two notes: 1). I'm a HUGE advocate of lower stack shoes, but the rotation in this video is a marathon training (or road racing training) rotation, not a general daily running rotation. So a running looking to start racing or build a rotation to train for racing, the needs are a little different than general running. 2). It is why I included the Hyper Speed 4 in order to have a lower stack option to round everything out.
I have a marathon in February and I will be preparing in between. My pace is in between 10-11 minutes per mile. What do you recommend? Great video though
The Superblast 2 sizing reviews are way off for me personally, I went TTS in them and find the Novablast 4 and SB1 way wider. SB2's pinch my toes, I'm going to have to return them haha. I find the SB2 knit to be tight and not flexible for me personally while the NB4 toebox is a lot more relaxed.
Hi, First of all thanks for great video. I am into 4th year of running. Have done 40+ HM and 1 FM this month. I currently have Nimbus for easy runs, NB4 for long runs ( even did my FM in Nova) and VF but its geting wirn out. I am confused what to consider for FM shoes. SB2 ? or go with Carbon plate shoes. I am lil scared of using carbon plate shoes for long distance. Any recommendation from you please?
Another great video and analysis. I have the Novablast but could not get the SB 2 before they were sold out.I have had to size down by 1/2 both in Novablast and SB1. Is Hyperspeed 4 true to size?
I've not tried the Hyper Speed 4 yet (they are rare here in Taiwan) but the HS3 ran small, fit similar tot he magic Speed 3 last year. It's a TTS training fit but it may require a half size up for some.
@@SagasuRunning today I tried both the Hyper speed 4 and Noosa Tri 16. I almost came home with the Noosa. It felt snappy with a great rocker and it was comfortable. But I could appreciate how HyperSpeed could be a bit better for faster workouts. It felt closer to the ground with a very traditional race shoe feel. However the other shoe that I tried and Impressed me a lot with a great new upper was Kinvara 15. I wish you’d get a chance to review that one.
Hi, thanks for the great video! I’m a beginner runner and I started with the asics kayano 30. I don’t think I necessarily need a stability shoe but would appreciate that the shoe is on the stable side. I was now looking into getting a second pair that I can use for my faster training session and was actually looking at the Novablast 4, Noosa tri 16, or saucony endorphin speed 4. Would you have any recommendations on what might be a good choice?:)
Of your three options, I'd say ES4, NB4, NT16. The ES4 will feel much much faster, it would be a good speed shoe and is the fastest of the three and will pair with the GK30. The NB4 is going to feel like softer and bouncier version of the GK30. The NT16 is a rolling shoe that will feel much more basic (firmer) and nimble. If your GK30 has some life left in it the ES4 will be your best bet. it needs to be paired with a none plated shoe. If your GK30 is on it's way out and you are replacing it, either the NB4 or NT16 is an option. The NB4 will be boucier and more stable. The NT16 will be more direct and faster overall, but could be a bit change in stability from what you have been running in. I hope this helps.
They are overly rockered and that limits their use case IMO. The Hyper Speed 4 is a much better option as a workout shoe and one to work on foot strength and foot strike with.
Why are the Superblast 2 'always' sold out? What kind of marketing strategy is that? Will there also be alternative colors available in the near future? Great review, thank you!
It's two things really. The main one is that Asics switch foam suppliers for this generation of FFTurbo+ and they are having production issues. What foam is produced is getting prioritized for the Metaspeeds. Secondly, outside of North America...the Superblast is not that popular. Given Asics is a Japanese company I'm also going to assume that production volume estimations were lower than they should have been. If you come to Taiwan you can find Superblasts, in most color ways, on shelves in most Asics stores. They just aren't popular here and I rarely seem them on local runner's feet... I don't think it's a conspiracy...I just think it's poor planning. I'm glad the video was useful though. Thank you for watching. 🤙🏻
@@SagasuRunning Thank you! I wasn't aware of that. I'm going to be in Taiwan in the summer (airport). If they have an Asics store, I may get me a pair or two! Cheers!
Depends on your goal. If you just want to complete the race the SB2 is the better option. If you want to reach for a time goal, even in your first race, you'll appreciate the extraness of the carbon...
Disagree with you on Asics Magic Speed 4.I have the Asics Magic Speed 4 and also Asics Magic Speed 3.The Asics Magic Speed 4 is totally at a different level. It also can be used to race10k and HM by runners who cannot afford Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris or Edge Paris. Asics Magic Speed 4 is very comfortable ,has a very good cushion and I happen to choose it for all my speed workouts over other plated shoes.(i.e. Asics Magic Speed 3,Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2,Brooks Hyperion Elite 3.)
I was surprised at how dull the Novablast 4 feels. It's a great recovery effort type shoe for me, but that's about it. The outsole on the NB is sketchy on anything other than dry pavement as well. I wouldn't consider it a daily trainer, at least not for me. I know the Peg price went up this year, but it's much more versatile than the Novablast 4.
@@brothershirt3156 I bought my pair of NB4 quite randomly after running Stockholm marathon this year in the so called supershoes Vaporfly3, making my heels burn so hard after 28K, having to walk stretches, but I told myself pain is temporarily, glory is forever, and finished in 3:40 despite sore heels and 27C Sunny weather. Anyway thereafter I googled best nonplated shoes, and the result was Novablast4 which I ran a rather hilly (600m⬆️) marathon in 19 days ago with no problems whatsoever in 3:28. So for me, these shoes worked fine🤪. But we're all different! I'm 53 this year btw, so I reckon age also must be a part of the equation.
I mean...the Pegasus is ALWAYs a better daily trainer, especially so the Peg41...but the NB4 is probably one of the best cushioned trainer option out there, next to the Adidas Supernova Rise, though the NB4 is a bit more rolling for those who want that.
I only have new balance moreV5 and looking to have a 3 shoe rotation. Would SB2 and the upcoming NB5 be a good 3 rotation? Or get either and pick a different third shoe? I'm training for my first half so still a new runner.
Unless you are training for a marathon you have no need for the SB2. The NB5 will be very similar, albeit softer it seems. I should have a pair soon to begin testing. I'd look at a different 3rd shoe. I have a few videos on rotation building that might help.
Very interesting but these ASICS comparisons are frustrating for me as of the leading three in your comparison only the NB4 comes in my size (US 14) and it seems, from your experience, that the SB2 in the biggest US 13 would just be a bit short. I then think which other brand has 2 non plated shoes that visually look very similar, have sort of similar use cases but cost somewhat different. Can't really think of any. Also never having been able to try a Superblast am always a little puzzled why you would really need both the SB2 and the NB4. Is the NB4 really more cushioned than the SB2 despite having less stack or is it more that the NB4 just has a softer feel? I wonder how many runners have both and use both regularly - well any SB and any NB that is. After all, if I really want to go fast for parts of a long run, I would just normally reach for an actual marathon race shoe.
Nike has the Pegasus 41 and Vomero 17, similar overlap in many ways. Adidas has the SL2 and Supernova Rise/Prima, also similar. Brooks has the Ghost and Hyperion... NB Rebel V4 and SC Pacer v2... They exist, sort of...but the Asics one is likely the most confusing to most. The NB4 isn't more cushioned than the SB2...it is softer, much softer. The Superblast is a shoe I think you'd really like and reach for often if you could fit in a pair. It IS a Super shoe and when you want to go fast on a long run it's a great option to have if you don't want to always go out in a paled shoe. Though, like you, I'd often prioritize time in my race shoe for those runs anyway...
@@SagasuRunning umm thanks. The Superblast 2 must be relatively on the firmer side by modern day standards then as although the NB4 is "soft" per se never think of it as being overly so. I guess with those comparisons generally one shoe is not significantly more "super" like the ASICS paring. Oh and just hit 100 miles in my Peg 41s ! For some reason I just don't seem to reach for my Vomero 17 any more. Kind of feel it is a shoe that I sink into a bit too much.
The SB is relatively firm for a modern shoe. It’s surprising it is so popular. It’s definitely not the current macro trend in running as far as how the foam feels under foot. I’m in a phase right now where I can’t get enough of the Peg41. I’m grabbing it for any run not a workout or something I need to run in for the channel. The forefoot feel and toe off is spectacular…. I’m at 75mi, but mostly because I have so much to run in for the channel at the moment.
@@TimGrose I have the Superblast and I find it plenty soft. Not too soft so that it saps your power, but just right so that it also feels energetic and rebounds. I have the Adidas Adios Pro for races but I'm seriously considering the SB for my next half marathon. It is that good and comfortable at the same time.
As someone who is in the 11-12/mile slow runner, looking to do a marathon this December, would I benefit from one over the other? About to retire my Novablast 2
SUPERBLAST AVAILABLE!! V1 and V2 / Including PARIS We’ve got nearly 475 pairs in stock. Threads & Treads | Greenwich, CT. Order online. We ship Nationwide 👏💪🏃♂️
Honestly, it really doesn’t anymore. With the rubberless outsole on the 26 Asics removed any real daily trainer use case for the shoe. It neither has the durability or versatility. The foam is secondary now to the Novablast 4 and every review basically says it there is no reason to choose it over the NB4…. Other than legacy. It was a very odd move for Asics. They gutted their legacy trainer…. For what? I love a rubberless outsole…. But not on a daily trainer…. The outsole would have made more sense on the Nimbus….it was a baffling design choice.
@@SagasuRunning I love the Cumulus 26 and prefer it over the Novablast 4. The combination of FFB+ and the outsole is great. The shoe runs completely differently than I expected. In my opinion the Cumulus 26 is very underrated.
From my local stores there’s no available stock for me to try so I have to buy it online. I have a slightly wide feet but work well with normal width shoes in adidas & brooks, bought NB4 regular width and it’s gave me blister, am wondering if I purchase sb2 will it be fine based on your fit comparison.
The SB2 has a little less toebox taper and a upper with a more generous fit over the NB4. I can’t say if you would have any issue… but it’s slightly more roomy that the NB4. Brooks and (some) Adidas are generally fairly wide in normal widths, especially Brooks…. FYI.
Thanks for your quick reply. I have done the insole test where I took out the insole of NB4 and place my feet on it. It matched well, but when I ran 10k it made me discomfort/pain at the side of my left feet probably due to the sharp inward angle and tight/inflexible upper mesh u mentioned in the video. Everything is great with the shoe except of this.. I’m wondering/hoping if the Superblast 2 will work for me or the NB4 wide (2E)? Side note, are adidas Boston 12 consider wider width/more flexible mesh as the 2E width is out of stock.
I really can’t say. It’s one of those things you need to try. The NB4 has some odd toebox taper on the lateral side that the SB2 does not. That could be the difference. The B12 is a wider shoe, yes. Though the upper isn’t considered flexible and can be rough on some people’s feet (like all Adizero uppers pre 2025).
Sorry for the late comment but as a rather new runner training for 5k only and only having the NB2 as a trainer, I'm looking for a pretty much one all-rounder for daily trainings and 1 when I need to push myself, regardless of brand. What would you recommend? I'd very much appreciate your input.
For an All rounder the NB4, Puma Velocity Nitro 3 and Adidas SL2 are great options...for a faster shoe you can't go wrong with the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 or the Adidas Boston 12. A non-plated trainer + a plated faster shoe (for workouts and 5ks)
@@SagasuRunning Thank you for such a prompt response. I will go ahead and try them out in a store this week. I actually thought you'd suggest Vaporfly 3 or the Takumi Sen10 as they are pretty much the most hyped and I was leaning towards them but I'd give your suggestions a try as well.
@@SagasuRunning My question would be (if you've ever had exp. with them) should I change my NB2 for the NB4 as they are only about 300-400km in. I am just not sure I like them very much but who am I to judge as a relatively new runner -maybe I know nothing about standards. Also between the SB or SB2 and the NB4, regardless of budget, which one would be a best overall daily for my 5k training?
@@Xtreamzfuly I didn't run in the NB2 and didnt' like the NB3...so can't really answer your question. For a dialy for basic 5k training...the NB4 by alot. The SB/SB2 are best for long runs 20-25k+...
im torn so far between the upcoming NB supercomp trainer 3, novablast 4, and superblast 2. im essentially wanting a one shoe do it all sort of thing for half marathon running and training. not exactly a fast runner... like 9:30-10:30 minute miles. anyone got some thoughts by chance? i like running, but not serious enough to spend that much for multiple shoes.
I don’t run in NB, but I know the SC Trainer v3 is rather soft. The NB4 is a great daily shoe but the foam will let you down for anything really serious. The Superblast 2 is unmatched in the space right now… nothing does it all with few compromises like the SB2…. That would be my vote. 🤙🏻
@@SagasuRunningI was gifted a Superblast 2. I am a new runner but can’t run more than 4 miles. Do u think I will be okay with this shoe? Pace is 9-10 minutes per mile. Working to get to to 5-6 miles. Thank you!
Ive been running all my runs/races in the Nike Winflo 9 (very budget) - I tend to run on the quicker side (18min 5k - 40min 10k - 1hr30 half marathon) Would the NB4 be good for me? I’d love the superblast but it’s sold out everywhere
The Novablast grip is terrible on wet roads. I hardly ever need to run in the rain where I live, so it's not an issue for me, but worth noting for anyone who runs on wet roads. Even a bit of water on the ground at races water tables can get dangerous.
I live in one of the wettest cities on the planet (Taipei) that is also mountainous....I've never once had an issue with the NB4 on anything wet, moss/green slim covered or slick. The Nb3 gave me some issues, but never with the NB4. Same to be said on the SB and SB2....absolutely no issues in wet...and I run in ALOT of wet.
@@SagasuRunning that hasn't been my experience at all, but with you saying that, maybe I should reach for them on the next rainy day and give it another go.
@SagasuRunning wow SL2 is that good? So SL2 is more firm ride vs NV4? I have been running for a while without any pain, 139 lbs at 5'9" at 8% bodyfat, for lean runners like me at age 50, should still be SL2? I have Boston 12, it was on firm side for sure. Endorphin pro 3, bouncy and not really impressed with it. What's interesting is that I got Durano Speed for under $25 as my walking shoes and found it to be decent jogging shoes. 😆
@harmony-one741 it’s more that the SL2 is a more performances based trainer. The NB4 is a cushioned cruiser, not very useful for anything else IMO. I prefer versatility in a trainer and don’t want to have too many specialist shoes. If you like the B12 the SL2 is similar, but way less stiff. Again, if you pronate don’t bother with the SL2. See my review of the SL2 for more.
I didn't notice that at all. They fit nearly identically to my foot, other than the lateral side of the toe box swoops in at a more extreme angle on the NB4.
The Gel-Kinsei? Last time I heard anyone talk about them was about the instability in the heel. I don’t even see them on sale anymore here in Taiwan, where Asics is VERY popular.
I was planning to get the Superblast 2 for my first marathon on October. But just found out that it cost around $265 (Rs 22000 in India). Can you recommend any other alternative ? I'm a slow runner (70 kg, 5'8) and targeting for a 4.5 - 5 hour finish.
@@XelgavR Novablast will suit you well for your first. I used NB4 in a full marathon 19 days ago, and have run 200K after that, so I guarantee you the Novablast will treat your feet kindly!
Cannot find the superblast 2 so that is a main factor here in USA . Have novablast 4 and like it.; have other shoes that I neglect in favor of novablast so that says something.
It certainly does. Asics's little games with Superblast 2 inventory is beyond frustrating. Here in Taiwan they are available everywhere. Even small Asics kiosks in department stores.
I agree ASICS never release enough inventory to meet demand here in UK & Australia. I can't help but wonder if it's all a marketing ploy. If you can't get Superblast do you just settle for Novablast. C'mon ASICS release more stock in other countries crying out for it. 😢😂
That’s the issue. They can’t make more. There seems to be a bottleneck with their foam supplier and production. It’s not a conspiracy to withhold them…. It’s more Asics can’t get enough FFTurbo+ foam.
@@SagasuRunning yesh, marathon training, neutral pronate, and between midsole and forefoot strike, been running in last years nike alpha and vaporflys for some time now, trying to wear them out so I don’t feel guilty getting something more versatile and fun to run in
@@redsoxfox You likely won't find anything more fun than a Vaporfly. Also you should be running in a non-plated shoe as well, not only plated shoes. I'd look at the Adidas SL2 as a daily trainer and the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 as a plated tempo trainer. Race in a AF of VF.
I've never once seen anyone say the SB is softer than the NB. FFTurbo/FFTurbo+ is much firmer than FFBlast+/FFBlast+ ECO. That is why the SB/SB2 works so well, the inherent firmness and stiffness of the FFTurbo/FFTurbo+ smoothed out by a little mushy FFBlast+/FFBlast+ ECO...
The NB3 was one of the worst shoes I’ve ever run in…. And I tried HARD to make it work… but never did. The NB4 was a good cushioned cruiser and a solid shoe… the NB5 is a whole other story though. Review up this weekend…
That means you are pushing too hard or need more aerobic base. Cardiac drift is a thing for all of us… but not off the chart, even in super hot weather.
@@SagasuRunning Well sky rocking for training pace I mean. I usually start the first 15-20km with a140-144bpm and end the run with 155-160bpm (201 max bpm) my first ventilatory threshold is at 156bpm nontheless I'm still just a turtle with running shoes :P

I appreciate the kind words and thank you for watching and being here! 🤙🏻
Really great information. For now I'm using novablast 4 for my daily, and novablast 3 for faster work. Once these wear out I'll look at the superblast 2. I
That will be a massive upgrade for you. As much as I enjoy the NB4…. I never got on well with the NB3.
At 68, i think novablast 4 will be it for me. A saucony freedom, triumph guy for years. Loved your videos. Thanks
Enjoy them. They are very good!
Again some great analysis. As a 78kg runner I tended to use the SB and now SB2 as a long run / easy run shoe, it just keeps my legs nice and protected without the Nimbus style squish. AP3 for longer races and TS10 for speed work/10k/5k races
The SB+ AP3 is a great combo for what you need…. Really great. 👍🏻
Is your shoes all the same sizes?
@@reginaldgonzales Yes, I'm a 46 in all ASICS shoes
@reginaldgonzales yup…. Both (and all of my other running shoes) are US men’s size 9.
How about takumi sen 10 is it to small for your size 9? Or your size 46?
Great way to break down the lineup of trainers ASICS offers. I followed your advice and just completed my rotation, adding the magic speed 3 as my speed work trainer (on sale for $99). Alongside, my everyday novablast 4 and long run/race day superblast 2! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
MS3 for $99 is a great deal and a great speed work shoe. Enjoy them and your full rotation! 🤙🏻

Do it also if it is just a road shoe for you - there is NO reason to get NB4 when you can get NB4 TR... maybe except you want one of those fancy coloiurs ;)
Superblast I took a half size smaller than Novablast. maybe because I had too much room?
Superblast: Just did 1 small practise run (like 5k+) in them and after testing shoes and running trail, I'l get back to them and see how my expensive purchase really performs in real life :)
Superblast 2 just a minor update, so just run your SB1 until they are done or if the SB2 is available in a nice colour you want ;)
I think more marathoners would do better in the Superblast. As you said, it is much gentler on the legs.
Good to know , I’m the same , have NB4, I’m not fast but always feel after 60 min in NB4 I want more foam
Agreed. I have 800km one one and 280km on another. I'm definitely getting another 1 or 2 now it will be discounted soon.
Nice!
My current line-up:
Daily/Interval: Hyperspeed 3
Long run/ long tempo: Superblast
Racing: MetaSpeed Sky Paris (feels like a plated Superblast)
The addition of the Hyperspeed really has made a huge difference in helping me run better. I crave that ground connectedness. It’s so light, flexible, and it has some snap to it coming from the simple FlyteFoam.
Btw, this is a very good video.
The Hyper Speed is the missing link. You nailed the description. It is a shoe that really surprises.
Wow, what an excellente review! Thanks.!
Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
I haven’t liked any of the Novablasts but the Superblast is great.
The thing is, there are many other shoes that do what the Novablast does, some better. However, there is nothing else quite like the Superblast.
@@SagasuRunning Very true. To me the Novablast is way too firm. I injured my hip running in the Novablast 3.
Interesting. I found the NB3 mushy/squishy…. Way WAY too soft. The NB4 is very soft, but not overly so.
@@SagasuRunninghi, could you please recommend which shoes perform better than NB4 for around the same price? Thank you! Subbed!
If you want a cushioned and stable shoe, the NB4 really is the best option. The Adidas Supernova Rise would be the next one I’d recommend, though it is much lower stacked.
Picked up a pair of SB 2's from Asics website a few days ago, really looking forward to getting them on feet 👌🏻
Enjoy them. 🤙🏻

Only had chance to put 30k on my SB2 this last week owing to flu, but I think that it’s the best shoe I’ve ever worn. It’s a joy to run in at this early stage.
Great vid as per usual, so incredibly detailed and informative, excellent stuff.
Enjoy them! Thank you for the kind words on the content. 🤙🏻
@@SagasuRunning The Adios 8 is my alternate track/road for fast turnovers like hill repeats, VO2 max, and fartleks.
That works… but the HS4 is an elegantly simple shoe. Once I can find a pair I’ll be covering it for sure.
@@SagasuRunning Simplicity. That's what I like about the MS LD.
@Wings_nut if only it was road worthy. I rarely run on a track.
It definitely should… it’s a much more race oriented ride. If you ran a 3:30 in a Novablast…. You’ll notice the difference right away.
Congratulations on the sub 3:30.
@@brothershirt3156 thanks, going sub 3:30 is always a goal😁. Hope for a New PB in Frankfurt in October, perhaps in Superblast2?
Brooks is a brand I definitely follow but am not always a fan of what they put out.
look into the evoride speed 2 as another option for a tempo/workout shoe. No plate, ff blast foam, quite rockered
Great video they both insane
Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
Great video. Subscribed
I'm happy to have you here. Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
Masterclass in how to do a good shoe comp.
I'm glad it was useful. Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
Wow, you definitely loke big rockered shoes. The SB2 will break in but it really comes into its own at Marathon pace… what it was designed for.
@ I’m 54 and my knees are shot and can not run fast unfortunately. My pb for a half marathon is 6:50/km which is not that outstanding but it’s just enough to finish decently. Been hearing a lot of good things about the superblast thats why I had to get one. Thanks for responding.
@rameses2460 I’m 4 years behind you… Enjoy them out there! 🤙🏻
Great video!
I just got my superblast 2, and I love it, do I need to have the Novablast 5 for the rotation? or just a redundant
The NB is the daily trainer in the Asics lineup. The SB is a long run trainer for marathon building, not a daily trainer. So definitely not redundant and likely the better shoe for the vast majority of people trying to decide between the two.
The pinky toe rub😂 I thought I was just feeling it
The NB4 occasionally would give me that but I never got that in the SB1 or in the SB2 while testing it.
Fantastic video. I rarely run past 10 km and I have a brand new novablast 4 waiting for me. But an itch is an itch and I really want the superblast instead. And it’s 100% due to psychological factors like scarcity. If anyone’s read Cialdini’s Influence…
Haha...the NB4 is the one you want though....resist....resist!
@@SagasuRunningresist I did. Thanks!
excellent explanation/ comparison as always. couldn't agree more with the sentiment towards the toebox of the NB4. as a lighter 135lbs forefoot/midfoot striker, i find the NB4 to be quite dull for whatever reason. it kind of zaps my energy. wondering if in contrast, i would get on w the SB2 as i haven't tried V1 and don't really care for the NB4
The ASICS Superblast 2 may be the ideal shoe for you. Supportive, cushioned, enough energy return for the distance and will treat you well.
Interesting. I found the exact opposite.
What is your target marathon completion time?
I think Tri-Noosa 16 or Evoride 3 Speed might the better Magic Speed 3 replacement than Hyper Speed 4. Did you check those alternatives?
Cheers!
@francescborrull9342 Not sure I’ve ever seen one at Taoyuan, I roughing there is it will be past customs…
Hi there. Thanks for this video. Quick question. Can I run half marathon in those shoes?
I'd pick the SB2 over the Nb4 for that...but sure.
Just make sure you get some training miles in them before you do the marathon
For a beginner runner, would you say the SuperBlast is a more suitable half marathon shoe than an Endorphin Pro 4?
I’m glad you enjoy the MS4 and it has a use case for you. It’s not a shoe I need or want or can justify…. Especially coming form how good the MS3 was.
I wanted to add that I love the look and feel of the Novablast 4 upper, and reaffirm I don't dislike it. It's just not what I want from a daily.
The Peg41 has a much better upper.
@ I also signed up for chi marathon so hoping i get picked through lottery but chances are low lol. Thanks! Looking forward for that review!
@billlcarpz6606 You and me both!
What will the NB4 be placed in the performance matrix in your other videos: the red zone and the range (yellow to yellow)
Easy cruiser...but a tiny bit into steady, red/orange sweet spot solidly in easy.
@@SagasuRunning so it will be slightly to the right as compared to the adidas sl2?
Ya. SL2 has MUCH more performance in it. The NB4 is a great cruiser that can do steady if needed.
As someone who is in the 11-12/mile slow runner, looking to do a marathon this December, would I benefit from one over the other? About to retire my Novablast 2
The added structure and resilience of the Superblast 2 will benefit you greatly in a marathon, as well as in your training for it.
If I wasn't really a fan of the Novablast 4, I'm guessing it'll be a similar story with the SB2.
Likely...

How would the cumuls compare to these?
The VF3 and TS10 are race shoes. Unless you are racing in them… it’s more than you need.
@@SagasuRunning SB2 is where I was leaning towards, from your video and everything im reading so that makes sense. appreciate the response!
Good luck and enjoy whatever you end up with. 🤙🏻
@@SagasuRunningI was gifted a Superblast 2. I am a new runner but can’t run more than 4 miles. Do u think I will be okay with this shoe? Pace is 9-10 minutes per mile. Working to get to to 5-6 miles. Thank you!
You’ll be perfectly fine. Enjoy them.
I wear a US 8 Mens on the Novablast4, Should I do the same for the SB 2 or go down half a size?
I went TTS, same size in both and find the fit nearly identical.
Can the superblast 2 even be bought anywhere? Here in New Zealand they sold out straight away and no sign of anymore since
Well, come to Taiwan. The Paris color way is seemingly on every shelf in all Asics stores... they aren't very popular here at all. 🤷🏼♂️
Ive been running all my runs/races in the Nike Winflo 9 (very budget) - I tend to run on the quicker side (18min 5k - 40min 10k - 1hr30 half marathon) Would the NB4 be good for me? I’d love the superblast but it’s sold out everywhere
The NB4 will feel soft but if you like a lot of foam underfoot and rocker then it will be spot on.
@@SagasuRunningthanks mate! I’m going to give them a go with ASICS 90 day try out
@jakedawson3324 Enjoy them. Great shoe!
I mean something like. Pegasus or Velocity Nitro does MUCH better in the wet…. But (specifically) the NB4 I have had no really issues.
If you had to chose from SL 2 vs NovaBlast 4, which would it be?
SL2... (but if you pronate at all, the NB4 is your shoe).
btw, i just saw preview for NOVABLAST 5, its going to wild 2025. Vaporfly 4, Pro 4, Evo SL, etc.. lots of good shoes to review and choose from....
@harmony-one741 I’ll review all of those shoes you mentioned, including the NB5 next month.
See my review of the SL2 for more.
lengthwise the super blast 4 feels shorter, maybe because is narrower.
I didn't notice that at all. They fit nearly identically to my foot, other than the lateral side of the toe box swoops in at a more extreme angle on the NB4.
Heel lockdown in NB4 is better, can run SB only with runners knot
I've never noticed a difference...though I ALWAYS use all available eyelets on all my shoes (not a runners knot though).
Asics kinsei is underrated shoes
There really isn't another shoe out there like the Superblast. The Novablast might be the next best option though.
This....
The NB4 is a good substitute. Hopefully they figure out their production issues and get inventory sorted.
Compliment or complement?
Complement. Thank you for the reminder! (I had to google it to confirm).
asics should make a superblast that is race legal lol
I FULLY agree… I even made a video on it… a MetaBlast would be such a good shoe.
I don’t understand why the superblasts are sold out and they can’t just make some more
That’s the issue. They can’t make more. There seems to be a bottleneck with their foam supplier and production. It’s not a conspiracy to withhold them…. It’s more Asics can’t get enough FFTurbo+ foam.
@@SagasuRunning so sucky, I can’t even try them…is there a shoe you like more? I really need a new versatile shoe
Many shoes I like more. Are you training for a marathon? Or just looking for a daily shoe? Where your foot strike? Do you pronate?
Very confusing. Most reviewers say the SB is softer than the Novablast, here you say the opposite
I have both of these shoes and the Novablast 4 is the softer of the two. Both are excellent for their purpose.
@TomCantu-q2x 💯
👍🏻☕️🥐
🤙🏻
It's a bit like the old covid vaxx, say there is a shortage of supply and the masses go wild 😂
Very strange analogy, but ok.
No really, Asics is having supply chain issues with some of their foams…. Thus the issues with stock.
Great shoes, shame about the terrible colours they offer 😢
They grow on you....the SB2 especially. But yes, Asics's color ways are often very....errr.... rough.
nova 4 was an utter disappointment compared to version 3 - terrible shoe
The NB3 was one of the worst shoes I’ve ever run in…. And I tried HARD to make it work… but never did. The NB4 was a good cushioned cruiser and a solid shoe… the NB5 is a whole other story though. Review up this weekend…
Usually my long runs are easy effort, the bpm goes sky high automatically the last 5km of the 25-30km run 🫠
Amazing Video.
That means you are pushing too hard or need more aerobic base. Cardiac drift is a thing for all of us… but not off the chart, even in super hot weather.
@@SagasuRunning Well sky rocking for training pace I mean.
I usually start the first 15-20km with a140-144bpm and end the run with 155-160bpm (201 max bpm) my first ventilatory threshold is at 156bpm
nontheless I'm still just a turtle with running shoes :P
Turtle power…. 🐢
