Becuse if going for age group wins or for specific events like the USA masters Track and Field events even the state level to qualify for the USA Masters Track and Field events as part of Masters USA "Olympics," you need to have specific shoes that follow the maximum of 40 mm because they just follow the rules for the World Athletics. Same rules for some of the races that are sanctioned for qualifying for Boston they follow the rules so even the non elites need to wear conforming shoes for road races because these races do not have an elite category just an everybody for themselves so should you be fast enough to win an age group, the race will check your shoes and have you ban from event for wearing the wrong shoes.
Still logging the miles on the SB1. I use it as you described: long runs with workouts (like marathon surges and fast finish). Otherwise, for easy pace long runs, I'll use the Novablast. At that price, I don't want to use the SB as a daily trainer. By the time the SB1 is retired, the SB3 will be out. LOL. Thx, Chris.
Great vid as per usual. Was never able to snag a pair of the SB1, but my SB2's got delivered on Sunday. Only had time to take them out for an hour since (come down with cold/flu) but that hour was absolutely delightful. Can't wait to get back out in them later in the week and start clocking the miles up.
Fantastic review as always. I have 40 km in mine. Great for long runs but takes a while to get going not the biggest fan of it during first 3-4k feels stiff. I LOVE that it's a tad softer makes the easier efforts more tolerable. I feel like this shoe has completed my rotation. SNR for daily miles, SB2 for long runs with easy/moderate paces, DNE3 for racing/track work, and ES4 as a versatile option but mainly for threshhold and tempo runs. Happy running ya'll.
my US13 comes in at 298 and 300 g compared to 296 and 297 g of the v1, so negligible increase. Feels pretty much like v1 and I love it, maybe a tiny bit softer. v1 is the shoe I put the most km on last year and this will take its place, even tough probably some of the easier runs will be in the Neo Vista. For me as a heavier runner and heel striker the amount of foam is great, a bit firmer than I usually like it but works great and just eats up the miles.
I can see where this shoe would be an absolute perfect fit for you. The biggest thing I’m curious about is how soft this shoes gets around 300-500km. FFTurbo+ definitely softens up much more than FFTurbo ever did.
@SagasuRunning my SB1 took a little to break in, and is going strong since, now coming up to 700k, amazing durability in upper, mid- and outsole. If the SB2 comes anywhere near I'll be happy, most shoes I have to retire much faster between 300 and 500k.
Out of interest how does your US 13 in this fit you compared to your other shoes? Somewhat annoyingly that is the largest size they do and I am almost always a US 14 in anything. That said a US 14 in any Novablast has always felt about 0.5 size longer than pretty much all my other US 14 shoes in every other brand.
@TimGrose is this a trick question? After reviewing the reviewers now commenting on the commenters?🤣 Sorry if I don't match your standards, but I don't have an excel file at hand 😉, but I will say that is has a very normal fit in terms of length, same space in front of the toes as e.g. Adios Pro 3, Endorphin Pro 3, Vaporfly 3 or a Takumi Sen 9, a good thumb each, all in US13. Width is certainly wider than the Adidas (they tend to be too narrow for me for longer efforts, volume is on the more generous side, I have a rather high midfoot and normally have to loosen the laces quite a bit, the SB2 is not extreme but among the (for me) better ones. Hope that helps.
I just finished a 15 mile long run in the Superblast 2.👍👍👍 It felt great in NYC heat. My only issue is I had a little heal rubbing. I think any shoe would give me an issue in hot humid conditions. I'm going to use it for San Francisco Marathon. I don't want a marathon racer for a course that I'm not going to running "fast".
Ya, Asics's heel designs can rub my achilles... no pain, cut or blistering for me ever, just reddening. Especially in hot humid weather. As a formed NYC resident...I know EXACTLY the weather you are dealing with...I can feel it in my bones after nearly 25 years there. For a marathon you aren't going to be "racing"...then the SB2 is ideal.
When Sagasu said that SB2 doesn't need a broken-in period, I had the same experience! I did a 12mi first run and my legs and feet still felt fresh after ❤
I don’t get that at all. FFTurbo+ is considerably firmer they FFBlast+ and both shoes are similar width. The one thing is the NB4 is a little lower…. But it’s always interesting how our feet perceive shoes differently.
@@SagasuRunning yes, especially when you walk as you heel strike more prominently, the squish is more noticeable giving the impression of less stability.
I have the pink magenta colorway of this shoe on pre-order from running warehouse. My hope is that it will be in hand in the next couple of weeks. Had to come back and revisit the review just to get myself excited :-)
One of the best reviews I have seen in a long time and I have had V1 since it came out has less than 100 miles in it so far but not for long. I was saving it only for long runs and did my first 1/2 marathon in it last year as my feet were not agreeing to carbon shoes being a noob to running. I am excited and want the V2 hopefully stock gets much better. I plan to use it for lots of long runs and maybe a full marathon
If your feet are still not agreeing to CF shoes then this is the way to go. Excellent shoe for the use case you outlined. I can't think of a better option out there. The SB2 is a solid upgrade too due the the much improved foam.
@@SagasuRunning I am going to be a new subscriber :) watched several of your videos today while working. Great alternative view than the norm and you think about things in a scientific way like I do
So, I loved the SB1, but one thing I did notice was a bit of a hotspot under the ball of the foot after 10k or so. I actually like it as a tempo or longer interval (10-15min) shoe. Already have the SB2, though I haven’t been in town to use it yet. Hoping this can be my long run w/ race pace shoe. I tend to use the Adios Pro 3 for those runs. Probably my favorite shoe, so no complaints, but also don’t want to get in the habit of running in plated shoes 2x a week.
I alternated the SB with the AP3 a bit last summer. They really work well together. I got the same issue with FFTurbo in any shoe I tried it in. Hotspots under the ball of my foot and sore feet for 2-3 days after if I did a hard workout or run longer that 16-20k. I’m not getting any of that with FFTurbo+ though. Its not as nice on my feet and legs as ZoomX or LSP, but its not much worst. Huge improvement over FFTurbo. For this review I did a 16k, 18k & 17k run…. Additionally I have multiple 16-19k runs in the Metaspeed Edge Paris and even more hard workouts. No sore feet issues at all.
@@SagasuRunning That’s great to hear! I hoped to keep the SB1 as a great shoe for a 20min tempo within a 45m run-stuff like that. Then I can use the SB2 for those 1:45:00 + efforts.
I can completely understand the thought of it being too much for daily miles, but as someone who's been dealing with hallux rigidus after a tendon injury in January, it's been a true help. While I want to run in something smaller for daily miles, I really have been needing a stiffer shoe to prevent the pain in the toe joint and the superblast still allows me to run without a plated shoe all the time (which you could argue that this isn't much different but still) while keeping the toe supported enough
In this use case, I can totally see it. I deal with hallux limitus and find if I spend too much time in a overly stiff shoe I begin to loose what flexibility I have in my big toe joint rather quickly. It is one reason I prefer Nike for their flexibility in the toe area, plated or non plated. It helps me maintain what flexibility I work so hard to keep. When I do have a flare up and my big toes are just not having it...the SB is a great option to get me out the door and able to run comfortably (the Adios Pro 3 has been another great option for this).
SB1 is my go-to choice for holiday shoes when I can only bring 1 pair of shoes. Even though it feels somewhat awkward for slow run, it feels protective & stable for my ride, which is what I need.
They definitely go fast. Taiwan still has good stock of the Paris color way (the one in this video). I see Superblast 2s at nearly every Asics store i see, and there are ALOT of Asics stores here. But I've not seen any other color ways here...
I think for me the big upgrade is the outsole. V1 was a rock magnet and I had to stop to take the rocks out after every gravel road.. By the way.. Yesterday PB in the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro V2 but did catch a rock the size of Texas in the outsole.. So had to stop to remove it but still a PB at my age 🎉
Picked it up about 3 days ago. The first run in it was a 5k tempo and wow... I did some track workouts, and it was a nice change compared to the Metaspeed sky I have been using. Hopefully, it lasts for awhile as it is still pricy!
@@SagasuRunning Thank you so much for the reply! Also, your video on daily trainers was really helpful, i picked up the SL2 as instead of the Novablast 4. I did test run the Novablast and it was a fun ride albeit it did not do so well in slippery conditions. Once again, thank you so much for replying and for the knowledge you share!
I’m glad that video helped out. The SL2 has a great outsole…. Very aggressive and grips well….enjoy them. Thank you for the kind words and watching. 🤙🏻
Eagerly awaiting the July 19th release date in my country. I missed out on the SB V1. Bought 2 pairs of NB V3 (Feb 9th 560km now), and (April 8th 200km now), and really used them more than I intended. Since I lacked a true pure LSD shoe that wasn't clunky. Depending how I like the SB V2, I can see me grabbing a pair of NB V4 to get me through my next 2 back to back marathon blocks. I never run in the same shoe on back to back days (unless I'm on vacation). So I really need 2 daily trainers and a long run shoe to cover my 5 standard run days, leaving my 2 workout days to be covered by other shoes. I'm quickly turning into an ASICS guy for daily/long run (love their heel lockdown), and mostly workout/race in Nike, (Tempo Next% and all 3 versions of the AF) since the air pods are just magical for me. I have a pair of Tempo Next% pushing 1200km! (Treadmill workout only shoe now) Where my average retirement distance on shoes is 500-600km.
If you've never run in the Superblast, it will feel very clunky at first. Especially compared to the other shoes you mentioned. Stick with it though, for a dedicated LSD shoe, there are few better options on the market, especially where you need to add marathon pace into the equation. The SB to AF3 works well too, at least as a training pair in a marathon build. The SB makes the AF3 feel "small", which I don't like. They are effective together though.
@@SagasuRunning As long as they feel less clunky than the Nimbus 25 or Invincible 2, I won't notice. Stack I don't mind, it's excessive outsole flares that just makes itself known after 20+ KM. And if the SB V2 can actually be used on my long run workouts later in my marathon blocks (35+ KM with 10-15KM at goal MP pace) it's a bonus.
The SB2 is much less bulky than those shoes you mentioned. Additionally they are MUCH lighter weight. That makes a huge difference. They are an ideal long run trainer when you don’t want to go out in your race shoes all of the time.
The combination of the old FF Turbo and FF Blast+ in the Superblast 1 was a perfect match for me. The harshness of FF Turbo was perfectly muted by the FF Blast+ to my liking. I'm just a big fan of the old FF Turbo foam and I love it's harsh feel for some reason. I will not get that 2nd version right away as I think the updates are not that sufficient to replace the 1st version which I really love. Since the 1st version is built like a tank, I guess I might not be having the 2nd version anytime soon. Great review as always. 😊
Ya, I REALLY was not a fan of the harshness of FFTurbo. I agree FFBlast+ muted it a lot in the SB, made it tolerable. The SB2 doesn’t have this issue. FFTurbo+ is a much better form, finally joining the top tier of super foams. I will be publishing my SB2 vs SB in a few hours. My summary there is I agree with you.
You said it correctly. Tank is the word for SB1, I have banked almost 600k on mine and it's still working like a charm, made it really 'cheap' relative to its economic life. I really love my Sky Paris with FFTurbo+ so I really wondered how the foam would work with SB2 though. I'll need to wear out my SB1 first before I can justify an upgrade to SB2 😊
FFTurbo+ is the real deal. It should make the SB2 even better over the long term. I look forward to the long term wear reports we will see on the SB2 in a few months.
@@SagasuRunning Sounds like I have to switch my SB1 to everyday trainer + long run to get 1000k mark quickly so I can justify an upgrade to SB2 on the next batch of release 😀
Apparently, Asics discontinued superblast 1. I bought 4 of these pairs to use them as my nursing shoes. These were one of the very few shoes that allowed me foot pain free life, after 12 hours of running around in them during my shift. Hopefully superblast 2 measures up, while I stockpile the ones you are holding... 🙏
Yup, when a new model comes out the old ones are killed off. Thats how it goes for all brands. I've never heard of the SB being used in nursing. Plenty of Hokas and other Asics...but never the SB. The SB2 should be more of the same for your uses case, if not a little better straight out of the box.
There are better long slow run shoes. There are better speed shoes. However, when you need to go long AND combine pace or fast reps...there is no better option.
Being a beginner I went with gel nimbus 26, as there was discount and sb1 is at a premium,v2 yet to be released here in India. Loving the feel of it on feet, will plan to get this next year at a lower price
I think the appeal of this shoe is the sheer amount of versatility. This is a "Do It All" shoe. Max cushion + fast + responsive + fairly stable + durability (ppl running 1000-1500 k in them and they still going strong). You can do slow, long runs. Faster, shorter runs and everything in between. For me the Nimbus are too soft and squishy, the Novablast has mediocre forefoot cushion and simply not as fast. Magic Speed has poor grip and a little too stiff for slower runs. The SB combines the best parts of several models u can skip on when owning these...
I had to go a 1/2 size down in the SB1 and they still felt loose. Only shoe I have ever had to downsize in you still think I should go TTS US men’s 9 with the SB2? ASICS Nimbus 25, meta speed edge + and Paris all fit TTS.
Go the same size you did in the SB1…. Literally they fit the same. Same last. Same width. Sane length. Same heel. The only difference is the SB2 upper is a tiny bit more roomy and will stretch over time.
Superblast 1 is my favorite shoes, one of the only wich does not cause me « periostites ». I will definitly buy the v2 (but waiting for another colorway !) Wich race shoes can be a good pairing with the SP1 and SP2 ? Thinking of the Cielo x1 maybe ?
The upper fabric mesh on many ASICS shoes seem to have a common problem of developing a hole at the big toe area. I actually like that the SB1 has a more racing plastic mesh instead of the SB2 soft fabric mesh. Many friends also had the same hole issue 😢
I have this on some Nikes, but never an Asics. Agree that the upper on the SB1 was great due to it being more race inspired. The upper on the SB2 is stout, though it is the type of material that will wear in a spot like that if that is a common issue for you.
@@SagasuRunning thank you for being so responsive to comments and appreciate your insight into the SB2! I may be cursed with big toes that demand expensive race shoe uppers 😝
Sound more like you need wider forefoots in your shoes. Your big toe is pressing into and up on the upper… says your foot needs more volume and width likely.
@@SagasuRunning thanks for the advice. I never thought of that. Initially I thought maybe the shoe was too long and too much space at the front but you might be right. I’ve had two pairs of ASICS and I can tell during wet conditions the fabric and the gaps widen more. I’ve had much better experiences with tougher materials in the SB1 and Hoka Speedgoat 5. I do really love SB1s. They just feel so premium and light/responsive for faster long runs. Do you have any recommendations for a slower recovery shoe (nimbus 25 we’re great for 800km until the holes appeared)
I’m struggling with my Novablast 4, it’s a slow and kind of boring shoe and wasn’t the upgrade I hoped for to replace my Novablast 3 that is a shoe that puts a big smile on my face. Quicker and a shoe that propels me forward. Could Superblast 2 replace the Novablast 3 or should I look for other options like Rebel V4, Mach 6? Have searched the internet for NB3 but they are nowhere to be found now 😢
Look for other options. The Rebel v4 and Mach 6 are much closer to what the NB3 was (for those who enjoyed it). The Superblast 2 is not the shoe you want.
Nice detail review but I still use this shoe as my versatile shoe (tempo, easy and long runs). I do use other shoe for intervals like saucony endophin pro 4 and alternate shoe for long run like skyward x
Nice review i am currently trajning with the hoka skyflow not a bad shoe i have done about 260 km but considering the superblast 2 would that be worth the upgrade ?
Not sure about an upgrade...but it will be much more performance focused (You get a PEBA foam in FFTurbo+ instead of Hoka's supercritical EVA). If you are currently training for a marathon the SB2 will be a performance shoe (super shoe really) for those long runs (25k+) with marathon pace in them....where the Skyflow is a good general purpose trainer.
I have been loving the sb1 for my long run. I still haven’t gotten the peg41 yet, as I have been debating. I need to add another daily trainer to protect knee pain. Do you recommend Novablast 4 over peg 41?
If you prefer cushioned shoes, yes. However, knee pain could be the result of instability in your stride, which a shoe like the Peg41 will do better at controlling, as it is more stable. I did a 17km run in the SB2 and a 15km run in the Peg41 the next day...I loved the contrast in feel.
@@SagasuRunning Oh, that’s good to know. I did a similar rotation like that between the sb and peg 36, and liked the contrast feel too. Does the peg 41 work for treadmill intervals?
Nice review👌. Could you recommend a non plated lower stack shoe than SB2 for long runs(I have Saucony triumph 21, but don’t get on with the 10mm drop) thanks.
I sadly have too many shoes to get also the SB2 .. but its such an urge to get it... Since you run in the SB2 I'm excited if you want to try the Saucony Endorphin Trainer next year, Sauconys "supertrainer". (basically kinvara pro 2, instead of the PWRRUN pb layer it gets the extremely soft HG layer of the Saucony elite 2) I ran it in preorder and it was a dreeeeam to run in.
I got some intel on the 2025 Saucony lineup from a local Taiwanese run influencer. Some surprises of what’s not changing and some curious foam changes as well. I will definitely try a one or two next season.
@@SagasuRunning They are cooking hot! I' still surprised how insanely stable the new hf foam is besides its extreme softness. I know you are not the biggest fan of that. Anyway, thank you very much for this review, your opinion about that shoe was the one I looked forward to! Do you plan to give another update after like 300km+?
Interesting. As someone that is used to lower stack and not a marathoner, this shoe isn't for me but this definitely suggests some lower stack non-plated shoes could work well.
There is no reason a lower stack non-plated shoe won't work for a marathon. In fact, if the Superblast had less foam in it....I think it would work much better. People still race marathons in racing flats and up until 2017/18 everyone raced in flats. It's definitely "possible".
Awesome review Chris! A question... I normally wear 10.5 Wide in Saucony Triumphs but wear a size 11 on Endorphin Pro or the Asics Sky Paris. What's your sizing recommendation for a wide footer like me?
Hopefully Asics plays less games with the release of this one. Or they solve their production issues with the foams. I'm not quite sure which one is making the Superblast so rare.
I bought the Superblast 1 because everyone said I should. Unfortunately I found them to be 1/2 size too large and too wide so I never used them. However had it not been for the size I would have still questioned its place in my shoe rotation. When you have the Speed 3/4, the Triumph, DN2, several other daily trainers and tempo shoes, which one of those shoes would the Superblast replace and be an upgrade to? I'd appreciate your feedback. Also, is the Superblast your favorite long run shoe? If so what is your second favorite long run shoe?
Of those shoes, the Triumph...but also not really. The Superblast is all together different. If not training for a marathon, think of the Superblast as a dedicated Long run shoe. Especially long runs where you pick up the pace. The other shoes you mentioned all begin to break down after 12-15 miles. The Superblast comes into it's own in that range.
You need to adjust to this shoe. I had issues at begginings because of the curve in the front on the sole with high stack. I thought I took the wrong size but it turned out OK. After 3-4 sessions everything is top notch since.
Top end materials cost A lot. Additionally, Asics priced the shoe in the range they expected it to be used for, as a super shoe training companion. Not daily training.
Didn't get along with the SB1. Like you, I feel like it's just a bit too much shoe. Besides, I use the Adios Pro 3 as my long run trainer (long progression runs, longer threshold intervals etc) and I absolutely love it. Easily my favourite super shoe. Can't wait for the Adios 9. I managed to buy the Adios 8 cheaply recently and while I'm all for lower stack shoes I feel this shoe would be infinitely better without the plastic torsion thing. Instead of landing on beautiful LSP I find the plastic deadens the landing and dulls the ride of the shoe. It also ruins my calves like no other! haha. So the Adios 9 without the plastic torsion and full LSP should, fingers crossed, be an absolute belter.
Agree on the A8. Once the LSP really breaks in, around 110mi for me…. The torsion plate in the forefoot becomes VEEY present. Not a deal breaker but not great. The AP3 is a great long run shoe, with fast work in it. If I could ONLY have one it would be what I picked, reprisals i was going to race in it. Still the SB1/2 is a very compelling shoe that is so focused on don doing one type of run very very well.
will you be reviewing the Adidas ultraboost 5x? I just got them recently, ran a 5K yesterday and it feels good as my first running shoes (been doing 5Ks for 2-3 months now) but I just came across SB2 and in love with the colour-way and the features. I'm wondering to get this too, since I'm not a huge fan of the colour-way of Adidas UB5... And, the SB2 is the Paris limited edition colour way so I dont want to miss out on it!
I don't plan on covering that one. If you are a new or casual runner....you don't need the SB2. The UB5 will do just fine for you. If you are a seasoned runner and considering training and racing seriously...the SB2 is a great next step.
@@SagasuRunning thank you for replying. Ya I’m training to run 10k straight now, I’ve done 7k in 42 minutes, 6min/ km pace and aiming to steadily increase my fitness. Soooo with running being my new hobby and I want to keep taking it further into half marathon late into year, I feel SB2 is a better choice isn’t it? Because also, they are roughly same price. SB2 is just $20 cad more.
If it’s between the UB5 or SB2, yes the SB2…. But again, the SB2 will be overkill for the moment. The UB5 is a solid option if you like Adidas. If you are curious about Asics the Novablast 4 would be a better option too.
If you take the insole out does the midsole still have a lip that curls up in the medial fore foot area at the edge where the upper meets the midsole, or is the midsole flat across?
There is a minor curve on the edge on the medial forefoot, but the insole is molded flat...however there is a small sidewall on the midsole where it joins the upper, around the entire shoe... that is curving the insole up slightly. That is a very Asics trait.
Great review! I live in Taiwan as well! Used to live at Taipei City Hall and run at the memorial park, but I've recently moved to Linkou and haven't really found a great route yet. Where do you do most of your distance running in Taipei?
@@SagasuRunning Well, hopefully Taipei has some good colors of the Superblast 2. I'll be back in a few weeks and will get them immediately, thanks for the review
I bought a US size 9 as well and found the forefoot a little tight for me, change the lacing and it felt much better and have so far ran 12k in it. Do u think it would be wise to go up half a size to help with the forefoot tightness? I dont feel the tightness when Im running but once I stop and am walking home etc...u just have the nagging though. On the novablast 4 I have the wide version in US size 9.
If you run in a wide shoe normally, you may want to go at least half a size up. The SB is not a wide shoe, it fits similar to a standard width Novablast 4.
im preparing for a marathon in december and im looking for smth comfortable for those long runs and will give me a good ride for the marathon that can also be used for racing, is these superblast or adios pro 3 better for that…
For training...100% the Superblast 2. For racing... it depends. If you are just trying to complete the marathon, the Superblast 2 will likely be the better option. If you are going for a time, especially one under 4 hours, you'l appreciate the carbon in the Adios Pro 3 in the later miles of the race... Good luck out there!
Nope. I try my best to avoid max stack shoes like this but the Superblast is a special one that deserves the attention. I'm also not really a Hoka fan, I don't have a Hoka shaped foot. I'm sure others will do this comparison.
Are they any good at easy paces? ( For me thats 5:45 to 6:30 and just for context I am 5.9 and weigh 85kg ) I get a discount at work and it makes them the same price as the novablast 4. So wondering if i should get my moneys work or if they arent fitted for that.
Honestly, for me, they are too much foam and a a bit too firm. I'd never use them as a daily shoe. However, many people do. They will hold up to 85kg better than the NB4 over the long haul though.
@coffeemuncher01 The SB2 is an outstanding shoe. But it’s intended as a marathon training tool. Not a daily trainer. Likely though…. You’ll be fine and will enjoy them.
A question, i have pegasus 41 as a daily runner but the problem im facing is when i run like 5 to 10km my forefoot hurts . Does sb2 help with 5 to 10km run? Thanks in advance!
Sounds like you may want to add in a more cushioned daily trainer to rotate with the Peg41. I'd consider the Novablast 4 over the Superblast 2 for that, especially for shorted distance like 5-10k. Watch my video comparing the SB2 & NB4 for more...
Got a pair today, 9.5, 290 USD in Brazil (outrageous). Tested them on the treadmill at the store, they felt perfect, but when I got home, I put them on and felt the most bizarre thing. Only my right foot feels tight and snug on top of my toes, the left foot fits perfectly. How much does the insole add to the stack? Could I maybe replace both insoles for thinner ones, or considering that I'm supposed to run very long runs on them, should I consider a fair amount of feet swelling and change my pair for a 10 right away? I've never been in this situation before, lol. Thanks!
If they are there right (and for that money, yikes) I’d go back to the store and talk to them, maybe try the 10 on. There is so much foam in the SB2 that swapping out the insole for something thinking won’t matter much…. But I’d try the store first.
It's an aberration, definitely, but I've switched from heel to forefoot striking over the past nine months through a very gradual process using a lot of treadmill and drills, but my calves are aching in longer runs. The SL2 was a disaster unfortunately, I thought it could be used for longer runs, but my size 10 is not snug at all and my foot "slides" in the shoe, both sideways and lenghtwise, which has given me terrible blisters. This one I can only retire or use for shorter runs. Ironically, although my feet are a bit widish, all Nike models fit them just perfectly on size 10. But other brands either are too wide on the 10, or too narrow on 9.5 (go figure). As for the long runs, I'm not a marathoner, I typically run HMs, so I won't be running more than 25k probably, and I think this unplated beast (the SB2) will be just ideal, although I've been a Pegasus lover for over a decade and will stick to it for shorter, recovery, every day runs. Thanks again and happy running, Chris!
I made that switch about 15 years ago now. It takes time for the body to adapt. I remember my calves for years afterwards. The SB2 is ideal for what you want to do with them. Hopefully you can get the fit dialed. Also… the Pegasus is always an option…. You can never go wrong with the Pegasus.
Do you mean a shoe to actually compete in on the track in all those events? If so, I have seen some real bargains on the original Nike Dragonfly spikes. Otherwise look at the Nike Rival spikes as they are the budget ones.
I currently own the Skyward X, Adidas SL2, and Endorphin Pro 4. I was hoping to replace my Skyward X with this as my recovery shoe, but your analysis says it doesn't work for that. Skyward seems to also be made for the cushy long run experience. Could you recommend a few recovery shoes that would fit my lineup? The 1080v13 is at the top of my list currently, but I'd like to stay open to other options. Thanks for the awesome content!!
I’m not really a recovery shoe runner… I often prefer a cushioned trainer or a more mobile shoe for that (work out the stiff feet and legs). The 1080v13 is a good start. Honestly…. The SL2 would be one of those shoes I would use for a “recovery” run. The Novablast 4 is another.
We’ve got 440 pairs in stock ready to ship nationwide via UPS. I’ve got the Paris color away the cool gray and the magenta in stock and I even have about 25 pairs remaining of version one.
We’ve got 440 pairs in stock ready to ship via UPS nationwide in the US we’ve got Paris magenta and the cool gray and a few pairs left of the version one
Switching to this from invisible run 3 was the best choice I made! So much better on the forefoot
The I3 was fun…. But the SB2 is a much better shoe…. Can’t even compare.
"invisible run 3" ... a shoe that can't be seen ....
I3 feels so flat to me compared to the sb2,, don't even have 150km on them
Same!! This definitely is a faster shoe! Invicible has a lot more cushion and comfort
It’s a Long Run Trainer

Superblast is my absolutely favorite running shoe 🔥🔥🔥
You’ll enjoy this one then!
Great video! Beginner here and got SB2 due to the hype. Hope I will enjoy it. Hope that it keeps me running.
You’ll be fine. It’s a shoe with a BIG sweet spot. There are far worst shoes to start with. Enjoy them and welcome to running. 🤙🏻
LOL. Thx, Chris.
The SB2 will feel really good when you do upgrade. It will fit right in like nothing changed.
@@SagasuRunning Very much looking forward to it. Cheers, Chris.
Enjoy them. Congrats on getting a launch color way. Those are always the best. 🤙🏻
Interesting rotation but you have a the bases covered.
Later in the year I’m going to do a SB2 vs everyone… stay tuned.
my US13 comes in at 298 and 300 g compared to 296 and 297 g of the v1, so negligible increase.
@therunophil It should… but it will be softer. So let me know though when you get there. I definitely won’t. I’m curious how you get on with them.
I Was eagerly waiting for this review!
Enjoy… 🤙🏻
When Sagasu said that SB2 doesn't need a broken-in period, I had the same experience! I did a 12mi first run and my legs and feet still felt fresh after ❤
Ya, this shoe felt great out of the box...just how my broken in SB1s felt...that was a welcome surprise.
Great shoe. The foam is more stable than the novablast 4. Love it for the long run.10mile plus.
I don’t get that at all. FFTurbo+ is considerably firmer they FFBlast+ and both shoes are similar width. The one thing is the NB4 is a little lower….
But it’s always interesting how our feet perceive shoes differently.
@@SagasuRunningthe squishier foam novablast can and do feel less stable than the SB2 especially on the heel to me.
Definitely heel striking, I can totally see that.
Enjoy them. It's a great revision. Asics didn't stray far from the first model and just improved nearly everything...
If you don’t wanna wait that long, we’ve got 440 pairs in stock and we ship nationwide via UPS
Great alternative view than the norm and you think about things in a scientific way like I do
I’m happy to have earned the subscribe. I hope you continue to find value in what I do here ongoing. 🤙🏻
👌 thx for a good initial review and explaining what the shoe is intended for.
Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
Then you will like the SB2. The Pegasus has always been my go to "one shoe/holiday shoe".
I missed setting an alarm to grab the superblast 2 in magenta and pink. So devastated because by 6am it was sold out. 😢
They definitely go fast. Taiwan still has good stock of the Paris color way (the one in this video). I see Superblast 2s at nearly every Asics store i see, and there are ALOT of Asics stores here. But I've not seen any other color ways here...
What size and color are you looking for? We got Paris magenta and the cold gray in nearly every size and we ship UPS nationwide.
Interesting take on sizing. Almost everyone else is saying it comes it a bit shorter and to do TTS, whereas the prior gen was mostly size down.
TTS in both for me and never had any fit drama with them. Metaspeeds and Magic Speeds I did...but Superblasts...not at all.
Thank you for the review.
Thank you for watching! 🤙🏻
Rock catcher is most definitely gone here. The added rubber tread helps significantly as well.
Picked it up about 3 days ago. The first run in it was a 5k tempo and wow... I did some track workouts, and it was a nice change compared to the Metaspeed sky I have been using. Hopefully, it lasts for awhile as it is still pricy!
Both of those shoes will last and you’ll get your money’s worth. The SB2 and Sky Paris are a very good match too!
Sacrifices need to be made it seems. 😂
I find V1 clunky at recovery and easy pace.. I agree it's amazing at faster pace.
The Nimbus is a better daily shoe. The SB2 isn't intended as a daily shoe. However, combining them... then you have it mostly covered.
Agree...this shoe crosses over so many areas (and models for some). "No compromises" is the key here...
I will definitly buy the v2 (but waiting for another colorway !)
Wich race shoes can be a good pairing with the SP1 and SP2 ? Thinking of the Cielo x1 maybe ?
The Metaspeeds are ideal, if you have a foot to fit them. The Ceilo x1, Alphafly 3 and Adios Pro 3 are all solid matches too.
We’ve got the Paris color way in stock. I’ve got about 200 pairs left the only size I do not have is men’s 11 1/2
@wilier4604 do you pronate at all? What’s your foot strike?
You will run in it more than you think... It's addictive 😂
Likely, I enjoy it...but have SO many other shoes I need to put time into this summer ahead of it. We shall see.
You are still creating a rotation around them. So it is all good. Sounds like you have most things covered there.
The Peg41 may be the ideal treadmill shoe. Low, stable, anchored… ideal ‘mill shoe IMO.
Nice review👌. Could you recommend a non plated lower stack shoe than SB2 for long runs(I have Saucony triumph 21, but don’t get on with the 10mm drop) thanks.
skyward
@@markoljustina thanks for the suggestion but the skyward has a plate.
Adidas Supernova Rise... by far the best option for what you are looking for.
@@SagasuRunning thank you😊
@@tono1665 yes, and high stack, but low drop only 5mm
I sadly have too many shoes to get also the SB2 .. but its such an urge to get it...
Since you run in the SB2 I'm excited if you want to try the Saucony Endorphin Trainer next year, Sauconys "supertrainer". (basically kinvara pro 2, instead of the PWRRUN pb layer it gets the extremely soft HG layer of the Saucony elite 2)
I ran it in preorder and it was a dreeeeam to run in.
Start with 11 US… the SB2 isn’t a wide shoe but that will be your best bet.
@@SagasuRunning Thank you very much, I really appreciate your input 😊
Looks great, but I’m not going to spend my life trying to find it! 😂
Hopefully Asics plays less games with the release of this one. Or they solve their production issues with the foams. I'm not quite sure which one is making the Superblast so rare.
We’ve got 440 pairs in stock ready to ship nationwide via UPS
They do require break-in, about 30-40k and they are all set.
Do you thin give similar sensations to the Nike Invincible 3? This one looks more stable....
The SB2 is much more stable and a much better ride. The I3 is a fun ride for a bit but the SB2 are much more useful.
Oh..Asics knew for sure they have something good in that shoes. Otherwise Asics wouldn’t charge the consumers $200 for these shoes. That’s a grip!
@@SagasuRunning thank you.
I do think this shoe is great for tempo runs as well. I would say 10K+ runs. And especially long runs with tempo segments.
Agree. I was outlining what this shoe was designed to cover.
Is this fast enough for a sub 3 marathon?or do I need the carbon plate ?
For a sub 3 marathon I’d recommend a carbonated super shoe. You’ll appreciate it in the last 10k…. Trust me.
Great review! I live in Taiwan as well! Used to live at Taipei City Hall and run at the memorial park, but I've recently moved to Linkou and haven't really found a great route yet. Where do you do most of your distance running in Taipei?
Hello Taiwan. I live in Beitou so most of it is up and around YangMingShan or along it Tamsui and Keelung rivers…. Road and trail.
@@SagasuRunning Well, hopefully Taipei has some good colors of the Superblast 2. I'll be back in a few weeks and will get them immediately, thanks for the review
Right now it’s only the one seen in my video. Though I know in Sept there are a few others in the schedule. Hopefully they show up here for you.
Good luck out there!
thanks so much!
Thanks. Compare this to the Hoka Skyward X?
Nope. I try my best to avoid max stack shoes like this but the Superblast is a special one that deserves the attention. I'm also not really a Hoka fan, I don't have a Hoka shaped foot. I'm sure others will do this comparison.
Are these good option for people with pronation?
Actually, they will do pretty well. Very wide platform with a built up medial sidewall. So, yes.
@@SagasuRunning Thanks.
@@SagasuRunning hearing a mixed batch at the moment😂 might have to just ordered them and hope
Cushion for the forefoot
Hii sir can u please suggest me better shoes in low budget for 1600 mtr 100 mtr long jump and high jump training and event day shoes
I have absolutely no idea about those disciplines. I don’t come from a track and field background. Sorry.
Anyway thankyou sir
Do you mean a shoe to actually compete in on the track in all those events? If so, I have seen some real bargains on the original Nike Dragonfly spikes. Otherwise look at the Nike Rival spikes as they are the budget ones.
@@TimGrose Thank you Tim! 🙏🏻
Hello please give try to New balance balos or more v5 it's New and on another level.
Sorry, I wont't be running in New Balance in 2024 and unlikely in 2025, unless they have some massive design and engineering changes.
Size down?
I read TTS or size UP, after talking to dozens of ppl.
I've seen all three. TTS is the way though...
@@SagasuRunning probably majority of poeple can go TTS, I had to send back my 9.5 TTS as it was short (9.5 in NB4 and SB1)
@petertoth3136 I went TTS, same size as the SB1 and NB4…. And my foot is on the smaller end of US Men’s Size 9. Just for reference.
To me it is a perfect daily trainer with a little extra oomph
It definitely has a little extra oomph. Thera for sure. 🤙🏻
1080 much softer like a nimbus, SUPERBLAST offers far more energy return without the insane rocker of the skyward x
Sure. But asics, just like the last one. I can't buy it anywhere.
Ya… their “hunger marketing” strategy with the Superblast is taking a page from the Nike playbook. Frustrating to see.
We’ve got 440 pairs in stock ready to ship nationwide via UPS. I’ve got the Paris color away the cool gray and the magenta in stock and I even have about 25 pairs remaining of version one.
I love this shoe, but always out of stock...
Asics’s “hunger marketing” of this shoe has not been the greatest thing to see…
We’ve got 440 pairs in three colors, including Paris in stock ready to ship nationwide via UPS
send us this shoe you don't need!!
Please do!
@@SagasuRunning I meant shoe- haha because you said you have no use for it half way though the video
200$ in USA, 220€ in EUROPE. :(
Again, think of the Superblast as a super shoe... then the price makes sense, it's even a little cheap.
probably because US prices are without taxes and most other countries they are including taxes.
@@SagasuRunning I know but i'm cheap ;)
GREAT SHOE WITH NO INVENTORY SO BOOOO ASICS LOL
Asics's marketing and inventory of this shoe is...ugh. Keep an eye out. it will pop up at some point.
We’ve got 440 pairs in stock ready to ship via UPS nationwide in the US we’ve got Paris magenta and the cool gray and a few pairs left of the version one
Change insole and hot spot gone.
The insoles on the SB1 & 2 are quite good. I haven't felt hot spots at all?!?!
