I need to learn this germination process . I have some guava and curuba seeds that I want to grow in my future home. I am also getting some guanabana seeds in the coming months. I love these tasty fruits and I hope to have large harvest of them for my smoothies, in the years to come. I wonder if they will go bad if I don't sow them soon.
Hi Isabella, Tropical fruit seeds tend to be recalcitrant or short lived in viability. Perhaps you could plant what you have and try to keep them alive until you can plant them out. Or, seek out local or online vendors when you are ready to cultivate your fruit trees.
Thank you for sharing ! I happen to come across the Butia palm tree on owr way home yestirday. The smell of the fruit took me by surprise. They smelled so good to eat. So me and my son grab two of them. Look up the name for the palm tree. So I decided to want to buy one off of Ebay. The price of the tree was more then a hundred dollars. So I wanted to learn how to plant my own from seed. Thank you so much! :)
Plantspotter69 tryin my best in outback Australia its been in drought for 10 years, i just uploaded little vid of my drought tolerant plants comin on winter here so hopefully they survive 45dc summer 🙄
Can water crystals be planted in bottom of hole before planting palms? Would be ideal for younger palms to get established? Especially as its a holiday home and i am not always around?
Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I don't know enough about the germination of that species to give you a good answer. Maybe err on the side of a longer tap root and go for a deeper pot.
Hi, The Royal seeds are pretty easy to work with. Make sure you germination medium is moist but not too moist. Keep the temperature even and warm. I think it will take about two to three months, if I remember. Thanks and good luck!
I have 50 Adonidia seeds.. Some guy told me, best way is too put seeds into empty zip bag, spray water into the bag, seal bag, and hey Presto. .have you herd of this method before ? Or used it ? He said? Actually seeds don't need soil to sprout. Often you see seeds sprouting in the post...Would you still recommend putting perlite or moss in the zip bag, as to empty with just water and seeds ?
Probably not much difference between just water and adding medium. I've known guys that just put seeds into tubs and keep them moist and viola. The sphagnum and perlite might be good for keeping the roots separate from one another and allowing for greater stability of temperature vs. just water.
I got some palm Seeds, Bentinckia Nicobarica,, placed in zip bag with mixture. Made mix moist. Zipped up bag and placed in warm dark place ..my question is, how often should I open bag and spray more water into mix?
I see. They are about 1 inch tall , sticking up, by leaving them in dark warm place a little longer, will the stems be bigger, than if i put out in light now ??
Andy Fisher Hi Andy, That would be a good medium. Just keep it from being either too dry or too moist. Also, keep it warm too. It helps a lot to remove the fruit, this really speeds up germination time. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Can Christmas palms seeds be left outside in pot, if days are 25c to 30c and nights are 18c to 19c ? . Seeds will take 3 weeks to arrive. So a good soak of 3 days? And when all sink, then place in zip bag or container.? When seedlings appear, and have at least 3 leafs, is it true these palms prefer full sun or slight shade?
If the seeds appear dry, give them a 24 hour soak. Ask the vendor if the seeds are fresh or if they've been sitting a while. That will give you an idea of how dry they might be. Those temps sound fine for not needing additional heat. As a rule I keep seedlings under shade cloth and out of full sun. As I mentioned in another comment to you, we're heading into winter so you may give them more exposure until late spring then consider protecting them from direct summer sun. 30% shade cloth would work fine. Adonidia are pretty forgiving and easy to work with.
On new videos can you please use the common name of these palms. Cause some I can’t spell and I’m new to growing palms lol thanks and keep up the great videos.
Hi Burmese, I'll try harder in the future. My reasons for not using common names in the past is sometimes, there are no common names other than the native names which might be harder to remember than the Latin ones and secondly I can only remember so much so i go with the Latin names. Sometimes there are a couple of palms that have the same common name too which just adds to the confusion! Please feel free to comment to me any time and ask for the common name and I'll be happy to try to help. Thanks for watching my videos!
I'm not sure either. I haven't worked with Traveler's Palm seed before. If you have enough seed divide the lot up and try a couple of different levels of moisture. Good luck.
Hi Ragna! If you are germinating Queen palm seed, insure adiquate heat and humidity. Don't let the germinating medium get too moist. Queen palm seeds are very easy to germinate, you will not have to try hard to grow them. I hope this helps! Thanks!

Glad the video was helpful! The Butia fruit is enjoyed by people as both a fresh fruit and made into wine too. Good luck with your seeds!
water heater idea I like. Thanks from Oregon.
Thanks, I hope it works for you!
Thanks for the tips from Australia
Thanks Nic, I appreciate the comment. Good growing to you!

Wow, that's rough stuff! I'll check out your video.

I would think so, especially for palms from wetter climates.
What size container would you recommend for Brahea armata after bag germination?

Nice video. Any experience on germinating Royal palm seeds? I just snagged about 20. I am in Melbourne Beach.

My Dypsis Pembana seeds now sprouting. How big should white sprout pioking up be, before removing from warm and dark ?
They should be getting a little light right now, so they'll be stimulated to grow.

Watch moisture levels, you don't want it too wet.
Should seeds be soaked in Hot Water ? Or just luke warm ? And when soaking, should they be covered in tin foil, to preserve the heat?
Hi Gary, warm would probably be best. They're from the Philippines so try to think of what the ambient temps would be in that type of environment.
I see. They are about 1 inch tall , sticking up, by leaving them in dark warm place a little longer, will the stems be bigger, than if i put out in light now ??
I'd suggest light, so they can begin producing chlorophyll.
I'm about to attempt germinating queen palm seeds in Southern California. Can I use miracle grow porting soil? I remove the seed from the fruit right?

You you recommend using Gypsum, to break up, Volcanic Red Clay type soil?
Sorry for the long delay in getting back to this. Yes in small spaces that would be good.
Is baggy method best for Adonidea and teddy bear and Areca Catechu palm seeds ? Zip bags with perlite? Would it need to be moist ?
Baggie should work fine. Moderate moisture and even heat above 80f or 26c.
I have Travelers Palm seeds that I'm trying to germinate. Any idea how moist to keep the soil in the bag? I'm always unsure about this.

How long do minors take to germinate? I used a strawberry container a month ago and still nothing.
+CLewey44 I can't remember exactly but I think it was in the neighborhood of 3-4 months.
+dullard69 OK that's good news. it's only been a month now. thank you
Hey there, how do I contact you?
Hi Jay, oasisorganic@bellsouth.net
Baggy method works great too. Here is what I use in the baggy ruclips.net/video/Cf1mO016ov4/видео.html
