7 years later. Hi Melvin. I'm from Hawaii but currently living in Florida, south of Tampa. I appreciate all the work and waiting you put into your experiment. However the seed obviously is the FRUIT of the Queen palm, and I have 6 mature Queens on my property, (which isn't really very big property), but I'm constantly trying to recreate Hawaii in my front and backyards, and have hundreds of plumeria trees too. I'm getting off track, at my age it's easy to do, 80.. Sorry. When the fruit is yellow, it's ripe, and I have some regular squirrel visitors every morning who come by and eat all the flesh off, and drop seed on ground. So it must taste good. Once the flesh is eaten, I can proceed with germinating them, and then selling them. I never have soaked or used hydrogen peroxide on them, I just let dry a few days so as not to create any rot, and plant straight into coconut coir. I have over a 90% success rate, but I have hundreds or thousands of seeds that wind up in my compost pile, and with no help from me there are always seeds that sprout on their own. It is real simple, and whether I'm working, sleeping, on vacation, or whatever, GOD does all the work. I put it in the coconut coir, and HE does the rest, and doesn't even ask for a cut of the profits. I propagate everything, and most I give away, but sell the Queens and plumerias, especially the hybrid plumeria from seed. Im mostly happy just seeing the result if I'm successful. I do podacarpus (yew tree), avocado, mango, sugar apple (anona spanish), schefflera,, samoan ti plant (red), Jatropha, and moringa(called Mallungay in Phillipnes, a real miracle tree.
Sorry this so long, but good luck, and thanks again.

You're supposed to get the ripe ones. Then you scrape off the fruit and you're left with the seed. Then get a plastic bag with slightly moist soil and put the seeds in there. Then wait a couple of weeks and they should sprout.

Just wanted to let you know that I have successfully germinated and grown queen palm seeds (in the Bay Area California) - both when they were orange and when they were green. I used a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide, soaked them for a week in the sun, removed the outer pulp and planted them. Out of 60 seeds, I had 50 successfully germinate. Don't give up, you can be successful with this method! Best of luck!

Thanks for the protocol! I recently found some juicy orange ones in parking lot queen palm. I tried peeling off the flesh and it was a big sticky mess; luckily the sticky substance is water soluble so I wash most of the mess away, peeled away the fibers, and tried planting them in a small pot. It's been a while and still nothing. How long did it take your seeds to germinate?

I saw many palm species being farmed around the Salton Sea, some in dense blocks as you said. I didn't know they were brought by Spaniards. Nowadays they're all over Southern California, even growing in small backyards as ornamental trees. They're in my apartment complex and in the parking lots at work.

@@jamestropicals8262 mine sprouted a while ago. All u need to do is, #1:choose the dates that are already ripened(orange color). #2:then u peel off the skin clean off till no more flesh is left. #3: plant it in good soil and when planted in soil make sure it gets a good amount of water and afternoon sun. And #4: let it do it’s thing and wait till it sprouts. I recommend doing more then one seed though. And that’s it ur done with the planting process the rest are the simple things like giving it food and watering it.

MsTokies This is what I read: "Aromatic and sweet the dates are sticky and fibrous with a very large seed. Usually you don’t eat the date meat. One just chews on the pulpy coating getting the sugar off of it then spit out the fiber out. However, some people like to eat the fiber as well but it can cause a tummy ache."
