Blizzard needs to stop trying to push the narrative that they're changing directions for PVE when they're plain and simply cutting content and features.

Gotta love those soulless PR statements...
At this point these things are pretty much just piling up like garbage at a dump.
Yknow what this reminds me of? That other game that was overshadowed by Overwatch's initial launch, that thing that Overwatch 2 was trying to market as a feature. Let's face it- people were led to believe that Overwatch 2 was basically going to have a Battleborn-styled campaign. Maybe it's time for a Battleborn revival.
Aaron literally did say in that blog post what they cancelled and what they didn't. I don't even want an apology from Aaron, he inherited a mess that wasn't even his fault. I want an apology from higher ups that actually made these decisions and drained resources after Diablo Immortal's success.

They're right, the audience keeps enabling them by buying and playing their games. Consumer negligence and ignorance is a corrupt corporation's favorite thing
"It's not me, it's you"

I mean the antagonism towards their fans is obvious even in their announcements. Remember "Do you guys not have phones?" Blizzard sees fans as just fleshy bags of money for them to squeeze, and hates when those bags don't thank them for the squeezing.

I’m starting to believe this is the real reason why overwatch was free to play. If people had paid money for this game with the promise of a campaign and then they pulled out the last second, they would have the fattest false advertising lawsuit in gaming history
But the boxed buy to play game market is smaller than the free to play game market. Pluss loot box controversy. This was actually a monetization change with $20 skins to make up for no boxes. It was also, a misdirection from Hong Kong, booba malk thieves, and other minor things.

What concerns me the most, is that if they really wanted to make PvE, they could've taken the PvP approach of releasing it early, with all the characters that have a talent tree ready, all the missions that were ready and work on the rest over time. They spent so much time creating tools and reworking the engine to allow the team to work on this content. I think the real reason they are canceling is because, of course, leadership outside of the overqatch team said "gimmi money", and made the team work on the shop and skins rather than real meaningful content.
If they were smart they would have made the PvE character a custom character you play as and have you team up with the cast. Would have saved them so much more time as they wouldn't need to make talent/skill trees for every character. Just you, the player.
@@richardshiflett5181 The irony is that I always said their biggest problem was locking themselves into the tank, healer, dps system. If they were going to make this custom character in PvE, they'd need to do at least 3 of them, one dps, one healer and one tank. Because they built all around it.
They could just release the PvE early and the stupid talent tree later even... No, just axe the entire section to scraps...

Not just the tangible things that we "lost" -- remember, they effectively stopped adding heroes and maps to OW because the resources were supposedly going to OW2. That's years worth of content that never showed up.

My expectations went straight into the shitter after Jeff Kaplan left
I expected precisely this, and I'm amazed. :-) Don't forget, Blizzard DID this dance before. Overwatch came from the bones of Project Titan; a failed MMO that was supposed to succeed World of Warcraft, which I now firmly believe was meant to sunset around 2016 to clear the deck for whatever Project Titan would become. But when that game fizzled, Blizzard just took the assets and slapped them into a first person shooter game format(that again, isn't even original).
Ever since, they've been treading water, trying to decide how to deal with the WoW problem they made. They can't kill WoW, cause it makes so much money...but it also COSTS so much money to keep developing art, content and technical upgrades for. But, they don't have anything that could REPLACE WoW at the same level, so they keep trying to dole out expansions to keep the merry-go-round spinning for another few years.
This isn't anything new. When I worked for a certain bank in one of their check=processing departments, they still had a check sorting machine that was so old, it had no computerized controls. EVERYTHING was run off dials and buttons and switches. It was housed in a big clear case, because whenever there was a jam or something got stuck in one of the belts, you had to go in with tools to manually dislodge the paper, reset the belt, and get the machine running again. The only reason it was still there? "Cause it was cheaper to operate that machine at a fraction of what it would cost to get a state-of-the-art sorting system put into place." For 11 years while I worked there, that machine ran day and night. Meanwhile, we didn't get computerized check sorting stations until early 2015....
This needs to be the final lesson learned by consumers. These companies are not our friends and only want our money. Stop putting trust in whatever they say, because it WILL change.

I want to be wrong, but I feel the 'Story Missions' will just end up being the new Map with slight tweaks and a couple of cut scenes, just like the Story missions in Overwatch 1. Reason I think this, is the video showing the Rio mission clearly have ability's (Tracer putting down a turret for example) that would have been in the Hero Skill tree. With that scrapped, all you have are hero's with their PvP abilities.
Cutscenes might be too generous for these penny pinching fuckwads. At this point the chances are you'll get a VO telling you whats going down over a few still-shots and they'll spin that as an 'upgrade.'

Overwatch 2 looks exactly the same as 1. They're not even trying to present it differently.
The PvE features they scrapped really aren't hard at all to implement. They must have downsized their development staff and the new people are struggling to release anything at all.
It's sad that Blizzard doesn't know how to make games purely from an interface viewpoint. I've seen this elsewhere, most notably Heroes of the Storm. Basic successes become weak because of simple opening / game mode selection weaknesses.

@@anti-roxas850 .. me too.. LOL
So here is an idea that they could have tried. Start the PVE part with just a few characters i.e. the ones from the cinematic trailer. Tracer, Winston, Mei, Reinhardt, Echo, Mercy, Genji, and Brigitte. Have that going while having another team focus on another part of the story and characters.
This is exactly why I don’t care or get excited about anything anymore until it’s fully been released. Shame on Blizzard for lying to their fans and trying to hide their failures.
Blizzard disappointing its community is about the only thing i have confidence in them doing
Bait and Switch ….. the ultimate company superpower .
Predictable knew this was gonna happen when all those allegations came out. Should have had talent to replace the people that were booted
You can't be surprised by this. Blizzard is a company in decline. Many years ago I used to love their games and eagerly await the next Blizzard game, because they were always top quality and fun games. Now I couldn't give a shit about anything they do.
I’m confused how a giant corporation with so many game devs at their disposal can’t put together a PVE game mode. Like small teams and even solo devs have achieved greater things.
Multiple seniors left, a lot of junior devs got in, and also it isn't profitable in the short term.
@@vane909090 basically this - which really sucks, because they are literally saying “we don’t care if it’s a good game if it doesn’t make us money”
Blizzard don’t care if Overwatch is a good game. They only care about making money from battle passes.
Most of its talent left for obvious reasons.
Let me give you this simple truth about game development: What is Fun for players is expensive for the development, so if you see blizzard cutting features that are fun for the players it just goes to show how much more they put greed over passion.
Any apology they had was meaningless, they basically cancelled the one thing that would have justified making this a sequel instead of rework of the first game. Activision-Blizzard is one of the biggest falls of a game studio I've seen.
They gutted the PvE before the update they called "Overwatch 2" even went live
They fell a long time ago 😔
I don't care
@@JayCross454 yeah, and yet they somehow keep finding more ways to go down.
@@Caffeinated-DaVinci oh you assumed it was a question or I was answering a question.
No it was about how none of ui seen this coming after well over 40 years of gaming showing this.
What will also suck with this is, that those story missions will be most likely limited to the current season and not available 24/7.
At this point Blizzard should be sued and forced to disclose certain information so we can know if the execs butchered this for the sake of money and slam them for it with false advertising.
My problem is that they keep telling us to be excited about things without giving us anything actually exciting.
The thing that I don't get is how this was such a challenging delivery. Talent trees? Character progression? *Those* are the sticking points? These have been features of games for decades. And even if they were incredibly challenging to implement... Blizzard is (was?) a premier studio, with top talent and top budget. If anyone should be able to crack this nut, it would be Blizzard.
I'm pretty sure it being "challenging" is just code word for "diverting resources towards more time/profit beneficial tasks", such as monetizing content or moving devs to other projects. An excuse to grab sympathy from their playerbase, especially partnered up with "leakers" pushing blame on the execs & the whole "developers are taking this hard" perspective.
The WoW team literally just created 3 talent trees for all of 12 of their classes, and 2 for one of them. They also have plenty of experience with character progression. The Diablo team also knows how to do these things. No one could have made a phone call to someone on the those teams to get some tips? Yeah, the Overwatch management needs to be fired.
It’s really odd to me that Blizzard, a very large and successful company, failed at being able to make a game that would’ve essentially been easier to create then any of the Borderlands games. So strange to me, In fact, that I’m actually thinking the real reason was that the CEO’s had instead found out that “sugar” prices had increased, and they said fuck the PVE, we want that powder, let’s just focus on charging micro transactions instead.
Instead of breaking it down into seasonal content and a manageable scope, it seems like they wanted every hero to be playable from the start. Each with their own unique talents and skill trees. Also, while the team has allegedly grown in size, it has mostly been through new talent, while veteran developers have either left ActiBlizzard or are working on other projects.
Battleborn came out alongside OW1 and had everything OW2 was promised to have.....and it was hard baked into the game. The Helix Band was the Gimmick of the game, letting you customize your character however you want both in PVE and PVP.
It was a fun polished game....and overwatch won because of "Blizzard Polish"
Blizzard... I have several questions to ask you constantly, but I'll stick to one in particular: HOW THE HELL DO YOU KEEP MAKING THESE GODDAMN FAKE APOLOGIES?! Then again, I guess they took their lessons from the BP Apology Message Committee.
I'm someone who has never played a second of this or the first game. I want nothing to do with an online only shooter, yet I love playing hero based shooters (the missus and I have played through borderlands 3 like 10 times, and that's despite the atrocious story/writing, and probably 20 runs of Borderlands 1).
So this was the one thing about this series that caught my interest. I was thinking the missus and I might really enjoy this game, looks fun as hell, and the single player coop campaign was going to be our introduction. But that's now as dead as the plans for this pve campaign.
if i ever enter a self destruction competition god forbid my opponent is blizzard
Anyone who has taken Business Communication in college knows that whenever you say "no" to someone, you always phrase it as you doing them a favor.
Instead of "No, we aren't holding up our end of this transaction," it is "We are focusing on what works and giving you the experience you want rather than a mish-mash of different features."
the reason they wont show it is that even these story missions, which do look cool imo, will most likely be heavily subsidised version of the expected fully fledged campaign we were also promised, that will be very monetized and try to rinse you, it will probably be like a 30-40 min mission once per season or every other season, overall its all a complete downgrade and underdelivery
Are you sure you aren't expecting too much from them? I wouldn't expect more than rehashed versions of the PvE missions from OW1 with some minor tweaks here and there
@@halofreak1990 damn even this is too much xD, I thought this was the bare minimum (this is still ass)
What a joke if a company
class action lawsuit. They said that the game would be one product and it turned out to be another. They took customer's money and did not deliver. This is fraud.
Only recourse we have is uninstalling. On top of the money, this is why so many games have shifted to “live service”, anything advertised is subject to change because you’re not buying a product anymore, even if that live service is a product you once bought
@@TrueGamer22887 People who bought digital items under the premise that the game would have a PVE mode 100% have a case against Blizzard.
@@giglioflex they don’t. That’s a very big reason it’s a “live service” read the ToS. Nothing revealed it guaranteed, or forever
@@TrueGamer22887 Their failure to meet their promises and players purchases as a result of those promises are outside the scope of such a document. As the name implies, Terms of Service only apply to your use of their service / product. TOS has nothing to do with promises made by the company. Mind you, not that you could legally release yourself of all liability via a TOS. Ultimately state and government laws take precedence over any TOS and that includes laws pertaining to misleading or lying to customers. Companies have been sued by both customers and shareholders in the past precisely because they lied to their customers and shareholders, including in instances where said companies had TOSs. Of course as pointed out earlier, TOS was never even brought up in those court cases because they are irrelevant to cases involving companies making false promises. In fact, Microsoft might even have recourse against Activision Blizzard and Overwatch 2 canceling PVE mode as part of the value of that company is staked in one of it's largest franchises, OW, and that value could drastically lower as a result of the cancelling of PVE.
@@giglioflex they’re not bro, I’m telling you this is why they use a live service model lmao. No one is stepping in, no one is suing, all you can do is uninstall

@@baflabies took the words right out of my mouth buddy
Diablo 4 looks fun. But whenever they seem to find their stride, they self own in the most epic ways. I think they really underscored just how big the blowback would be on the PVE cancellation
Most of the time they'll take credit from whatever third party studio did good that they hired but not absorbed like so many studios in the past... people still think EA for instance is less worse for doing just that despite the two decade worth of dozen's closed studios
The purchase from Activision killed it permanently.
This 💯 boils down to the fact that we as gamers are not their customers, they give zero fucks about us, their customers are shareholders.
That Crawl - Walk - Run actually makes me so mad given that the FPS PVP in Overwatch was a thing that was always SO close to working but because of a massive lack of care towards the FPS landscape around them so many rookie mistakes were made, most notably failing consistently to proactively avoid pitfalls so many FPS games have had. Off the top of my head: Infinite ammo for all characters which heavily benefits spam heavy characters over accuracy while simultaneously allowing "Snipers" to spam freely, giving Widow extremely strong mobility and peak options while also giving her a decent enough SMG and refusing to put lots more cover in maps, Mercy - Torb as a whole where they ignored the god like design of Medic and the ample great sentry characters to a point where they need constant remakes, refusal to differentiate characters more ala speed, terrible map design overall that neccessitates shield upon shield upon shield, on and on.
And now i know why: They weren't thinking of Overwatch as a game in it's own right but a fucking stepping stone back towards the MMO they think they wanted. It's been a known secret for a while now that the leadership of Team 4 was not the best, but to have to it basically confirmed that they PURPOSEFULLY ignored many obvious warning signs is beyond insane. How do you even begin to justify anything you have to say going forward with Kotick and leadership screwing over devs and the community on the regular to enact a 3 part plan to w point where they will effectively kill a golden goose.
Can only imagine how Jeff feels about the whole thing
Why do you think he left?
Really love the fact they give us 3x xp for battle pass while they announced this

Blizzard apologies are the equivalent of the South Park BP oil spill apology "We're sorry" (rubs nipples intensely) But hey, how else are they gonna pay Bobby Kotick the 250 MILLION dollars his contract entitles him to when he finally decides to leave the company no matter how much money he loses it in the name of filling his own pockets, right?
This is the perfect moment for battleborn to come back, has just about everything that overwatch 2 is scrapping it'll be the comeback of the century
The saddest part about all this is that, all the scrapped PvE content was successfully being created, but they were literally being thwarted by the decisions of higher executives to change focus of OW2 development time towards random side projects, just for those other projects to get scrapped, too.
And that info was released by an ex-dev last year.
No, they are just making excuses. They are just bad devs. Every good dev at Blizzard left long ago for greener pastures. The only ones left are the bottom of the barrel scrubs who can't get hired elsewhere. The truth is that all of these devs are ass and Blizzard knew it too. They said "we can't do shit right, and we are admitting it, because we have no good devs on our team". Simple as that.
Exactly why I don't completely blame the devs at all. They were put in a resource chokehold between manpower (a lot of them quitting or being let go) and time (unrealistic deadlines), all the way to mandatorily having to move closer to the Blizzard campus and work from home (which also was a reason for a lot of quitting). It's really not that the devs didn't want to make this part of the game, it's that the higher ups were impatient and saw another way to get more monetary value quicker and more abundantly by scrapping PvE and pushing all the resources to PvP.
In summary corporate greed and bad management because of the lack of trust in their development team.
i don’t think it was too successful if it has been taking them 3+ years since it’s announcement
Its all Activision, they ruin everything, corporate companies like Activision, disney etc buys talented passionate companies and turns them into a money printing machine, its about time the consumers come forward to stop this exploitation
Reeks of "You guys dont have phones?"
Blizz, we just wanted the game to have a reason to exist, all you've done is prove to me that the 2 in the title is nothing more than a buzz word. Incredible sequel that really needs to exist, bravo

Loool Hulk u made it onto Yong's video
As someone who stopped playing during Overwatch 1, this was expected. I'm more interested in what the community is gonna do about it. See if this changes any attitudes or if they'll give them a reason to keep doing this stuff.
The entire community could quit and never buy another blizzard game, and it wouldn't matter, because all the mobile gamers with IQs at room temp spend $2 million per day on Diablo Immortal. Blizzard doesn't have to do literally anything else ever and be fine as long as the mobile gaming market exists.
The community will bend over and keep spreading their cheeks 🤣 they enjoy blizzard fucking them over. I however uninstalled because i was actually looking forward to it and since its not coming i have no more reason to play since they’ve handled pvp poorly
Unfortunately majority of the people don't follow the news on this and care enough to do anything about it.
I know a lot of people who knows about Blizzard games but have no idea about Blizzard as a company. They just keep buying whatever new game Blizzard is spewing out because their older games were good.
…nothing. The reality is, if you were still playing Overwatch 2, it’s because you like the PvP, not because you’re holding out on the release of the PvE mode.
Like don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a good look, but it’s also not something the vast majority of their existing playerbase will be directly affected by.
the community wont do shit except gaslight each other that they are just doomers and that the company did nothing wrong
Wasn't it already leaked by an insider who confirmed that this was cancelled because the suits didn't think it would make as much money as the pvp monetization, though? This just seems like a corporate move to try and deflect away from the real reason that this was cancelled; it wasn't that the scope was too big, it was that there was not as much profit in it.
Yep this would have brought me back, because I hate the stress of competitive overwatch, but love co-op teamwork missions
So the parts left intact are the pve events they've been doing since OW's release?
They probably lost a lot of potential players with this stunt. I was waiting until they added to PVE mode to start playing the game. There’s a good chance I’m not the only one.
No PVE was the reason why I never bought Overwatch up until now. This day my choice to ignore has been vindicated.
I waited for pve, glad i did and didn' buy the game with empty promises

Watching a character progress and grow through the course of playing a game is what makes a player want to continue to play a game... but that takes effort the company didn't want to utilize. That's why companies love PVP games, all you need to do is create goofy characters to fight each other without the need for backstories or purpose for the fighting.
