I don't know how anyone could fumble an IP as big as this. Blizzard FAILED to turn Overwatch into the brand it was supposed to be. Imagine if they had made TV shows, movies, spin offs. @@deanatgmail Eh, Disney Starwars is on the upturn. Lotta good shows and such are coming out. The Trilogy they created however was just mismanaged to hell and back. The second movie being so split in what it wants to be is what hurt it the most, and going into the third movie it was just so shitty that NOTHING was built up to anything that happened in that. "Palpatine somehow returned".
Would have been really fucking nice, to have the B-plot in the second movie be set in with those characters finding Palpatine and discovering his return. Would have made some actual fucking sense.
Allow me to shed some light on this mystery. Blizzard didn't failed alone, because it's not just Blizzard anymore, it's AKB. Why do I call it AKB? Because they are Activision first, King second and Blizzard last. The Blizzard that people love does not exist anymore.

I loved it when Arthas said “This entire city must be purged”, then proceeded to purge the PvE mode of Overwatch 2.
What!? How could you even consider that!
I'm sorry Arthas. I can't watch you do this.
The scummiest thig was that they cancelled story missions before the game launched and they were still marketing them to keep people playing for the launch.
You just couldn't trust this company after this backstab.
They dindt cancel it before the game
They continued to market the PvE campaign until significant;y *after* the launch, despite having canned it over a year earlier.
@@gamerbeast3616 Go watch that Livestream where they announced the bombshell. Yes they didn't say it was "cancelled" but they "shifted resources from PVE" which is just a more corpo way to say it.
@@gamerbeast3616they did, they just didn't tell us until they decided to publicly cancelled it
@@gamerbeast3616 Oh you poor naive child. They did cancel pve before game launch. It's why Jeff Kaplan left.
Overwatch "2's" sole purpose was definitely just to be a way to redo the monetization and make it way more expensive. They accidentally made OW1 too generous with its lootboxes not giving duplicate items anymore so people were able to get everything just by playing. The original PVE plan got scrapped before OW2 even released but they didn't let anyone know until later. I'm never touching a game that has Blizzard anywhere near it again. Dumpster company inside and out.
They had a golden goose but killed it because it wasn't made of diamonds. Fucking disgraceful.
Legit during the later era of Overwatch I LOVED how easy it was to get lootboxes. It made me play the game more because I knew that every win got me something or closer to something and I could get varied with Arcade games.
I can't believe Overwatch made me enjoy lootboxes, and then removed them and made it harder for me to feel like I achieved in the game.
Blizzard don’t care about making good games with their IP. They only care about exploiting players for profit.
I thought Overwatch 2 was because of "Free Hong Kong" ban incident and to make everyone "forget about" announce OW 2. I remember that the idea of PVE should be a complete separate game but compatible with PVP game but it's was planned to released much later since was something too much to take.
Anyway, too sad this was killed, since this was seen a long project (probably start to see return in a decade or two) with multiple media, like Comics, Light Novel, Web Animation, maybe a Movie or Animation series because the game itself, okay isn't bad, but the characters was unique.
Fuck Bobby Kotick.

Overwatch 2 was just a store overhaul lmao
worst part is the last people who were working on the PVE content were actually laid off because the first bits of the mission didnt sell well... shows you what is valued at Activision Blizzard :/
I hate to be realistic person, but there is a chance that the forecast was not making even a basic return for investment. It might have been just a miss of expectation, one so large it scared investment.
Or it was burning even more money. If that was the case than no. They should have not kept their jobs. A moral company might have tried a restructure moving assets. A normal one just fires. Yet both would never keep investing in a venture that would yield no return.

I logged out permanently at 2's launch because of their BS policies and greed, not because of the content.
It was 3, 15 minute missions, once a year, and for $15.
They're not the reason they got laid off, that happened because the new Blizzard pres wanted to solely focus on the game's core, it's PvP. It didn't matter how much the missions sold for, we knew nothing much was happening when they said we'd get them once a year. For how barebones and repetitive the missions are, that was just not enough.

So because Bobby's dream was killed of a big esports franchise that was forced into existence upon the back of a game that just screams "please give us story and lore", he basically made sure it would suffer as much as possible in his way out.
Everything about this game that fails is because they intentionally make it fail through overpriced content that doesn't sell well on the core player base and then sit there and say things like "oh, well looks like pve isn't what people want because it didn't sell well."

Wow, wasn't that the whole justification for "updating" the game? So in the end, the only thing that was updated was the monetization system... modern AAA gaming everyone!
Nope, the game's actual core part, its PvP, has had many changes since its August 2022 release. Not sure why people keep bringing this up as if we're still in August 2022. We heard it back then, it was true back then, but it's not even true today. It is a different game from OW1. It's not like the franchise has a history of PvE content, its central fanbase are PvP players. Very few people play this game only for its PvE, or their promise of it.

@@aouyiuget their meat our your mouth
It's an update, not a sequel. That's what we're pissed off about, nothing about the entire "restructuring" of the game qualifies this as an expansion enough even from a pvp aspect. As someone's who played since the beta of OW1, sure the metas are different and there's a few new maps. At the end of it all it still plays structurally, mechanically, visually the same simply with no more reliance on a dual shield dive meta and a soft reworking of a handful of characters. Something could easily have been an expansion like every other live service triple A title has been doing for years now. @aouyiu
Explains why Blizzard just recently changed the EULA to try to force arbitration and prevent any kind of class action lawsuits...
Forcing you to accept the new terms of service to use a product you already paid for is reason enough to sue them.

Blizzard tried to sell us the same product twice in a different package. It offered very little value to people who already purchased Overwatch, and failed to draw back in casual audiences with the lack of PvE. Now they're scrapping PvE to try and focus on PvP, but that ship has plenty of holes in it thanks to Blizzard's misguided attempts to create a bloated pro league. I can't wait for Overwatch 3, with crypto integration and payouts of $.01 per match. Only 1500 matches for a decent skin!
I am sure by this point that those story missions were deliberately sent out so Blizzard could make an excuse for not continuing PVE development.
These corporate leaders knew damn well a fragment of a story campaign with no end in sight wasn't going to sell well, so they could go, "Oh, how sad, PVE didn't make money? Welp, we tried! Back to milking the PVP cash cow!" Failure was by design.
They stole og Overwatch from everyone to make this.... Blizzard is TRASH

I loved OW1. Came out in 2016, I was 17 and enjoying the end of high school. All my friends at the time played games & we all had PCs, so we played the absolute FUCK out of Overwatch.
Now, you have to pay for the privilege to use the new hero when it drops? Battle pass system replaced the ability to earn cosmetics for free? 5v5 made it so we had to cut one player for comp. And at the end of OW1 there was so little content we dropped the game in anticipation of OW2. And now that game is dead…
Now, none of us. Not a single one of us plays OW2. They had such a good thing and greed drove it into the ground.
The only damage control that will work is a rework of the monetization system. Dont paywall new heros. Make it possible to earn cosmetics in a realistic timeframe for free. And maybe even launch “overwatch classic” for those of us who wanna go play an actual good game.
Umm, they're reworking monetization, the game director just made a whole vid about it. All heroes are now free starting in a few weeks with season 10's release. What's also coming is coins in the battlepass, more credits (for buying skins) to earn, lowering skin prices, and more.
The game is very much alive, it's just not to you and your friend group. 6v6 coming back is also not outside of the realm of possibility, but honestly, 5v5 is fixable so idrc. The game is in a much better state than it was at launch, which was just overwatch 1.2, now it's far beyond that.
@aouyiu i love having to redesign more than half of the og heroes so they can fit the 5v5 format. Whats even better is looking at the insanely lazy design of new heroes that for the most part revolve around passives and are either hard meta until theyre hot fixed or they get nerfed into oblivion because everyone realizes the game is worse when theyre meta (cough cough weaver and mauga)

@@gamerbeast3616 it's glorified dlc gamerbruh
You can’t purchase it tho? It’s free
Man... So Overwatch 3 announcement when?
Amazing how Overwatch 2 is now literally just a worse version of TF2.
It always was.
Damn. Thought I finally found an overwatch video without tf2 being mentioned. Oh well...back to my bot-infested hellhole.
Don’t insult TF2 like that. OW2 is a disgrace that shouldn’t exist. Tf2, albeit abandoned by their developers is still an amazing game.
1) Install TF2
2) wait 10 minutes till you find a match
3) Get sniped by aimbot from enemy spawn, you cant leave your spawn
4) uninstall
This tf2 cope is always pathetic. Both games are dead in the water.
Bobby Kotick is so messed up he made J. Allan Brack look like the good guy 💀
On one hand im proud that gamers aren't giving into the Overwatch microtransactions but sad seeing how the overwatxh devs are being treated. Blizzard is such a disgusting company
This just proves Its the worst managed IP in Video Game history.
Halo says hi
Good and Evil?
I'm not sure about worst, but definitely top 10 in recent history
5 vs 5 destroy the game for me..

“Corporate needs you to find the difference between these two photos.”
Overwatch 1
Overwatch 2
“They’re the same photo.”
I feel like No Man's Sky and Overwatch 1/2 had opposite paths. One was hated at launch and has become beloved while the other was beloved and is now hated.
Marvel Rivals is here to take over from blizzards massive fumble of over watch
The Finals does it better
@@JadieIfinals is not a 6v6 team hero shooter smart one
Give it 2 months and Marvel Rivals will be dead in the water.
@@Ziggyvu We just got powershift which is pretty much payload from Overwatch.
Not with NetEase developing it
100 million lifetime players...what about active players?
Less than 100
Pretty normal if you check steam. Not even including the people still using the blizzard launcher. Game still does well with normal people who don't follow gaming news. It's why Activision/Blizzard always announced their bad news with the OW devs' good news or why king games used it for its diversity chart
@sharkeatinpizza not true lol
Idk, maybe i would've bought the story missions, if it was a finished campaign for like 30 bucks or somethin. There ain't no way i pay 15 for only 3 missions each time.
Yet another example of corporate executives punishing other people for their terribly short-sighted decisions.
Dragon's Dogma 2 may have it's issues but it isn't nearly as bad as what Overwatch 2 turned out to be.
And people were dumb enough to think Microsoft would save Overwatch. There’s a limit to naïveté and stupidity.

_"There’s a limit to naïveté and stupidity."_ No, there isn't.
@@darksidegryphon5393 thank you for the good laugh
Seriously, they basically fired all the OW2 PVE devs and other devs working on new Blizzard projects. What did people expect to happen
W pfp rip power 😢@@BRIANNA_00
I'm just mad thinking about what could've been. Overwatch was a instant hit and a phenomenon that was making waves outside of gaming. Overwatch was really on track to be an iconic gaming IP
On par with the greats like Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Pokemon, Metal Gear, Halo, Call of Duty etc. Then this B.S......This would be like if Nintendo completely fumbled and released a half azzed version of Gold/Silver and the franchise died there.
Overwatch? More like Underwatch
And just like that, the greatest scam comes full circle
Overwatch had such potential as a brand, yet increasingly screws itself
To clear something up, the $15 wasn’t just for PVE. Yes, PVE was locked behind a paywall which was stingy, but the PVE was bundled with 1000 currency ($10 worth), which is enough to get the battle pass. So basically, PVE was $5.
But let’s say half a million people bought this package deal, that’s 75 million dollars in profit. That to me doesn’t sound like a failure.
Maybe sales numbers underwhelmed Activision Blizzard, but I don’t think the profits were a reason why PVE was cancelled. I think it was because the PVE Overwatch division suffered layoffs and leadership realized that they can’t fulfill their promise of developing PVE without PVP suffering.
This was a complete mishandling by Bobby Kotick and good riddance that he’s out of the company. Hopefully OW2 receives some story missions in a few years from now
As others have said, this IP was fresh & engaging at the start. Blizzard had made a compelling game with fantastic characters that gave the entire experience so much personality, making it all the wilder how spectacularly they failed to capitalize. They stuffed OW2 with so many unnecessary & crippling issues that they completely overwhelmed any of the hype the IP had built. As a OW1 fan a lot of the new characters & story details in 2 look exciting but I have no interest in trudging through the swamp of warped monitization & design decisions & failures to experience anything that would have otherwise drawn me in.
Arrowhead Studios: *Look at what they need to fail at mimicking a fraction of our power.*
Blizzard needs to just delist Overwatch 2 and make a RUclips apology video already.
"We have had a severe, and continuous, lapse in our judgment..."
Yeah, that's not how corporations work.
Lol, are you for real? Since when do RUclips apology videos ever work out for anyone?
Or a solemn JPEG.
And give us the original version back
So, let me make this clear.
They are pulling an EA as in force the devs to gut a game and when that ruins it they punish the devs?
Yes lol business types cannot comprehend anything other than "maximize profit at all costs". then when their actions inevitably ruin a long term money printer for a very slight short term increase in profit, they shift the blame onto the people who actually make shit happen then go ruin something else. They're genuinely cancerous. I've seen it in heavy industry too many times, and thats a job where people get seriously injured when corners are cut!
Bobby fueled the fire for the company to burn itself to the ground. And he'll jump out with his golden parachute while everyone else burns.
I am shocked, shocked!
Well, not that shocked....
But not frozen...
Great job Blizzard, keep it up. Already forgot about D4
Blizzard is soulless, skilless, classless corpo now.
Nothing fun or good shall come from them ever again.
There should be legal ramifications for their mismanagement and false advertising
How can a lawsuit not be started with any PVE being paid content? They actually marketed PVE as a free content for OW2
I think their EULA enables them to get away with it. apparently it was recently changed not to long ago forcing you to accept it to play the game
My friend tried to defend Overwatch 2 by calling it free DLC. It’s DLC all right - Don’t Like the Changes.
Gottem
This is worse than mw3. Ateast it has a campaign.
That just shows that there was literally 0 point in making a sequel to begin with....
Eveything that was promised in Overwatch 2 was literally in Battleborn at launch. Battleborn even had operation raids.
