Christian finds he has someone saying no, challenging him and his perspective, pointing out his good points (charity works, philanthropy etc) and teaching him to LOVE (himself and others and recognise when he is loved by others).

He was physically abused by his step father when he was 4 years old and his mother was a drug addict who just watched and did nothing. After that he got adopted but the trauma he experienced stayed with him. In school he'd get into fights etc. His adopted mother's friend introduced him to the BDSM community when he was 15 years old. That's the only huge age gap there was. Also on that book we see Christian's "dark" side which is him having absolute control over his submissives hence why Leila calls him Master. Another thing is that on the books from Christian's POV, you'll see Christian calling himself a monster because he believes he is a sadist who gets turned on when he hurts women who look like his mother. Exactly this. I don't care for BDSM relationships at all (and these books are probably WAY more mutual consent that it is in real life), however if both are adults (and not a child as Christian was when first introduced to it) and both are consenting then I suppose each to their own.
In these books/films, there is a damn contract spelling out what each are happy with. How many people go through something like that in a "normal" relationship?
Each could leave the agreement and go their own ways. In Leila's case, she has lost her husband (in the book she & her husband have parted ways, and she found someone else who she loved but he was killed in a car accident and it was traumatic for her....so, she is going back to the last man she cared for - Christian).
Christian finds that Ana is not interested in being a submissive at all (and its worth reading Christian's PoV books as we get flashbacks of his relationship with Leila....NOTHING like he has with Ana).
Its really interesting seeing the way Ana, who is a very strong character who really knows *who* she is. She is open minded and prepared to try things but is also quite happy to say no to things too. Whether that is in the Red Room, Bedroom or daily life. Christian finds he has someone saying no, challenging him and his perspective, pointing out his good points (charity works, philanthropy etc) and teaching him to LOVE (himself and others and recognise when he is loved by others).

This is called BDSM honey. But it's presentation wasn't portrayed properly in fifty shades. BDSM is a lot more than just punishments, kinky stuffs and pain. It's more about love (if you're in a relationship), lust, passion, dominance, submission and most importantly, consent. I haven't read the book, but from what I heard, Christian never really played with Leila. He was always true to his words with his subs. He never loved her or even told her that he liked her. @@anjmehra I hadn't read the book before but all I know is that maybe her and him might've had quite the age gap so maybe that's one of the factors of why they had the word "Darker" as the movie's title.
@@lynn26dh there wasn't a huge age gap. The reason the book is called darker on my opinion is cause we learn more about Christian's past which is dark af. He was physically abused by his step father when he was 4 years old and his mother was a drug addict who just watched and did nothing. After that he got adopted but the trauma he experienced stayed with him. In school he'd get into fights etc. His adopted mother's friend introduced him to the BDSM community when he was 15 years old. That's the only huge age gap there was. Also on that book we see Christian's "dark" side which is him having absolute control over his submissives hence why Leila calls him Master. Another thing is that on the books from Christian's POV, you'll see Christian calling himself a monster because he believes he is a sadist who gets turned on when he hurts women who look like his mother. Sorry that this answer is long. Like I said I believe that's the reason it's called Darker.
