Awesome video Jeff! Thanks for putting such good content out there. After watching this video I ordered the do-it jig buzzbait mold and all the parts. After some trial and error I ended up pouring some acceptable heads. Tied on the reverse skirt and they look pretty good. I haven't been able to go out and fish it yet, but I can't wait to catch some smallies on them. Thanks again for all you do
Right on Jacob! Play around with different skirt colors too. Matching your local forage can make a big difference. We have a lot of gold baitfish locally. Purples do well too. Net some minnows for inspiration, and slow that buzzbait down as it cools off. Most folks put away the topwater too soon in the fall.
Love a buzzbait bite.I have made some of my own as well from components from Jann's. I have to try your version. Like the reverse tie of the skirt material. Colors are great for the Susky or the Delaware. Friend of mine that owns MegaStrike makes the Cavitron buzzbait for bass that due to the design can be slowly reeled in. Different design but deadly on bass. Thanks for your tips and techniques on tackle crafting.!!!
First thing I do with a buzzbait is take the skirt off and add a swimbait. I've found that as the sun gets high switching to the buzzbait and putting down the plopper produces more bites given that it is a more subtle subsurface bait that appear to be a fleeing baitfish. Some of my best bites on the Susky were midday buzzbait attacks.
Great video Jeff. Thanks for sharing the set up and the making of the buzz bait was awesome. I want to get me a set up to start making my own lures too
Counter rotating buzzbaits used to be amazing before they went cheap on the blades. Those blades used to be 25-33% more metal. Much better noise. The next step was bend the blades so they nick together
I realize that the traditional skirt tie - forward kind of parachutes out, and isn’t as big in the water as it looks hanging there in air, but that slim tie is something that fish just don’t see much of. That can make a difference in clear water with pressured fish.
My buzzbaits, my #1 favorite lure since I was a kid, have been gathering dust since I found the Zman goats. A regular size goat looks and sounds like a buzzbait when retrieved quickly, but floats on a pause and after a cast, which is nice when I need to do a quick paddle to adjust my kayak. Plus I can skip it a long way easily, which is a huge advantage over a buzzbait. I wasn't thinking of it as a finesse buzzbait without the blades, but now that I've seen your video I think that's how I think of it.
Comment and a question. Buoyant Zman plastic adds bulk, action and weight -- and makes the bait easier to keep on top at slower speeds. You can't lose. The question: Why do buzzbait makers use R bends instead of proper closed loops? Is it that much cheaper for them?
@@TheLittleStuff Well, I'm an older guy and my vision isn't what it used to be,. That and arthritic hands make it tough for me to retie on the water. I use small power clips instead,, but they don't work without a closed line tie.
This is a bait I do not throw much. I was raised on the tiny torpedo. I have a couple but they just don't make their way to the water. I should throw them more I would probably have more confidence in them.
Strike King makes a similar one called the Mini Pro Buzz. It’s not tied with the skirt pointed back, but the overall size is similar. I like mine better, but realize that not everyone is able to make their own.

@@TheLittleStuff Thanks for the tip. I tied up one in purple/black that I want to try out

Right on Kevin! That slow retrieve can be lights out!

That makes sense!

Do-It!
@@TheLittleStuff I’m going too for sure. Can you direct me to where to get supplies?

I put a bead in between the blades so they don’t smack each other. Do you think that’s a mistake? How do you get them to contact?
Love it, Jeff. Great work. Love the idea of adding the Z-Man plastic to increase weight but not decrease buoyancy, since Elaz-Tech floats.
If you use too much elaztech bulk, a buzzbait that compact will ride on its side. Hence the smaller slim swimz.
Good stuff here thanks for the tips
It’s buzzbait prime time!!
Looks like I need more tackle crafting material!
I love the comparison between a golf ball. Really makes me rethink what I throw.

I will have to try the direct tie to the braid. I have been afraid to with hi vis braid
It doesn’t matter with moving baits. Not sure why it took this long to figure out

For sure, there is a lot of versatility in the Z-Man GoatZ! It’s a subtle gurgle like this finesse buzzbait.
Zman new toadz is amazing across water

Not sure. Never seen a close looped one. What do you feel the advantages are to a close looped line tie on a spinnerbait or buzzbait?

cool!
Thanks Dana!
I have been using little ones, both 2 bladed and triple buzzer for a long time. Great producers when baitfish are small.
Triple buzzer - do you mean the smaller plastic ones with three blades?
You were right in front of my campsite
That’s awesome! Cool section of river for sure!
Does confidence baits still produce their finesse buzzbait? Lost mine on friday and im bummed. Was nailing them on it
Not sure if Roy is keeping up with that one.
Do you have the part number of the blades as well?
