    Buzzbait also A LOT more fishable around vegetation obviously.
    Whopper Plopper you can pause it, rip it, and if a fish misses you can let it sit then continue the retrieve.
    The sounds of both are unique too.
    Definitely a place for both in everyones arsenal

    I like them both, but a buzz bait has been my go-to for 20 years. I love to pull them parallel across the front edge (or even through) of grass, pads, cattails, etc. that is dangerous territory for a plopper

    So what would people who have used these baits recommend to a bank fisherman? I think that (after seeing this and thinking that the buzz bait won’t get caught in grass and obstacles so easily) for a bank angler the buzz bait would be better than the whopper plopper. I don’t own either and have been debating whether or not I want to buy them and try em out

    • @TheFishdoctor1952
      @TheFishdoctor1952 2 года назад +2

      You can buy 5 buzzbaits to every plopper. Both catch fish. I like the 90 plopper in calm water to a slight ripple. The buzzbait with more wind. 1/4 oz buzzbaits catch more than the bigger size. Colors, black, white, chartreuse are all you need.

    Great video as always,
    I like the buzz bait when the summer grass is heavy. The whopper plopper works better in open water and should have a swivel on the front in case it does pick up some grass in the prop. The swivel eliminate line twist. Seems like I get more fish to the boat with the buzz bait. Thanks

    Hey Brian! I will agree with you the hook up ratio is definitely better on a plopper . However lately, seem to be getting more hits on a buzz. That could be because more people are using a plopper. LOL.As far as when do use it over another, I do believe that in more windy/choppy conditions, a buzz bait has an advantage due to more noise factor. God bless!

    I prefer the 130 size over the 110 and the 90 in my experience the 130 can be fished slower while maintaining that plopping sound and and it’s a louder sound and with the bait being in the strike zone longer and slower fish can track it better , I’ve used all three sizes and have had 2-3 times more fish on the 130 size then any other size,, the 110 needs to be fished faster in order to maintain the proper sound , you can almost crawl a 130 with a 7 gear ratio reel and get the proper sound ,

    Been making buzzer baits since the 80’s. Didn’t know what a whopper plopper was the other day till I was on wish. Tons of knock offs on there. I bought a half dozen of them off eBay for $11 shipped. The reason I bought some is because my dad uses low gear ratio zebco spincasters. They never wind fast enough to get a traditional buzz bait up on plain. Also the cheap, light, line used them snaps when casting heavy buzzers.

    nice video. the whopper plopper comes in many many sizes. i've caught many many big bass on standard buzzbaits as well. Each bait has it's own characteristics like you stated. the only thing i feel that the whopper ploppper has that the standard buzzbait does not is the added commotion on the surface (whopper plopper 75). both are great choices, but if i had to throw one before the other i would choose the plopper. Check out our page for some examples in our fall fishing videos!

    I too am late to the game. I relied on Jitterbugs but I got many missed strikes. I haven’t thrown one yet but it seems to me that those tail hooks are back far enough to act as trailer hooks. Is this the case? Does it catch the short strikes?

    I like them both. I fish a lot of over hangs and tree lay downs and find myself going with the buzzbait more. I will also say I live in south Louisiana and fish the marsh a lot and them reds love that whopper plopper

    what weight of buzz bait do you guys typically use? When I look online at TackleWarehouse it seems like there's a 1/4oz, 3/8oz, and 1/2oz. I've never used one and am not sure what weight I should get.

    To try them out I bought the cheaper WISH version. I've had good luck.i was advised to add an extra swivel on the front especially on heavy weeds and lillipad to keep the joint from sticking and popping off.

    Brian, when do you use a bladed or prop top water vs a popper or a walking bait? What conditions force that decision?
