green pumpkin tubes with a chartreuse INSIDE and a light chartreuse on the tail is KILLER for me this year, I HAVE to try this ive never caught a buzz bait fish!
Putting a tube on a buzzbait as a trailer is a really really great idea! I wonder if wrapping a band around the base of the tube near the tendrils would cause that body to act almost like a balloon and give the bait lift, which might allow you to really slow that bait down. I'm going to try that!
Increase the curls on the buzz blade so it digs more and add some foam ear plugs inside the tube for a slow crawlin-high ridin’ buzzer that looks & sounds different AND throws better.
I have caught most of my big fish on skirted buzzbaits with zoom split tail trailer. I haven’t tried other trailers because the zoom split tail worked so good. I will try the naked buzzbait more so thanks!
A tube buzzbait! I purchased a couple of 3 from some saltwater guides out of the Sabine Bay & River area of Louisiana back in the 90's at a Houston Spring Fishing Show! They used a two hook system. It was invented for fishing redfish in the shallows of the back bays, they said the redfish would be feeding on mullet, crabs and shrimp the had push up real shallow, but as soon as the bait engaged and started gurggeling they would submerge and chase the tube buzzbait and spank it! I think that's why they used two hooks? One was in the lead head and the other hooks eye was just ran over the barb of the lead head hook and hooked in the tube behind the first hook. Both hooks only extended out a third of the bend out of the 3" tube! I just fished it in Galveston Bay areas! Very effective early mornings and in the evenings especially on the beginning of the low tide if you can stand the mosquitoes in the back marshes! Chartreuse w/ metal flakes and a pearl with metal flakes worked the best especially if shrimp were still in the back or being pushed out on the tide! Bring extra tubes! The redfish shred them up!
man that is a great idea... I have been having a blast with buzzbaits for last 2 weeks... and think I will give the tube a shot this weekend! thanks for tip!
I have experimented with a tube as a chatter bait trailer as well. The tails vibrate very well, and I don’t think it inhibits the erratic motion like bulkier trailers.
I live n ky and guide on cave run lake. But I’ve fished all over for those critters. We won Pmtt on the mad chain 1 year and named my youngest girl after that win Madison it is. Had to b happy with middle name only but it works. Any way a person could hire u for a day to Muskie fish and mayb small mouth also That river u show has to b loaded with Muskies.
Never thought of a tube, sounds like a great idea Matt. I quit using skirts a long time ago, use BPS Cajun split tail trailers rigged flat. Thanks for the tip.
This is a great video for me, and I would love to see Core Tackle take on this naked weighted buzz presentation. I think having the weight more throughout the hook like your other presentations would really change how I fish the buzz. Thanks Matt!
I like your idea of the tube. I appreciate the tip. I start throwing a buzzbait in the spring when the water reaches 50 degrees. I caught some nice buzzbait fish the week of your tournament on the Potomac. Megabass Boa buzzbait was the one I was using and has become a favorite the last two years.
I’ve had a lot of success on a good old zoom super fluke a little tricky to rig not a lot of material to slide the hook on but it can’t be done. A little drop of superglue also goes a long way.
Tried the tube on a 3/16 head today, and I was very impressed. I have been using soft plastic trailers for a while but been reluctant to lose the skirt because it lands more quietly with a skirt. Problem solved, buzzbait with a tube also has a soft landing. As an added bonus, it casts like a bullet.
Increase the curls on the buzz blade so it digs more and add some foam ear plugs inside the tube for a slow crawlin-high ridin’ buzzer that looks & sounds different AND throws better.
I use a Biffle Bug for this same reason- they're hollow inside and fit a buzz bait like a glove. I tear off the center tail and just leave the little side legs to kick- but you can leave the center tail part on and put your hook point through it. The Jackal Archelon is also hollow inside and works great. Never thought about a tube, but I'll give it a shot.
Great tip and i think this one is really underutilized 👍👍I've rigged tubes on buzzbaits and vib jigs to fish in a local tidal river with some success. Especially when the bass are keyed in on smaller bait.
I just got done rigging a buzzbait that had an old skirt on it with a Biospawn Viletube, they have great colors. Haven't got to try it yet... looks killer!😎
thats a awesome idea and gonna give it a try this weekend if doesn't rain all weekend again. unfortunately it is supposes to rain. Mayne I'll just put the waders on and go down to the river I strad of being in the kayak in the rain. thanks for the tip bub.
I figured out that a tube makes a great substitute for a skirt on a buzz bait about 30 years ago. I make my own in 3 sizes. With a 1/8 size for a tube is the best since they can’t be cast with a bait casting rod with a skirt. The added bonus is my 1/8 #1 blade buzz bait with a tube sinks flat with a shimmy just like a Senko so I just stop it if I have a short strike or follow and they eat it!
@@MattStefanFishing It's a shame I didn't realize it, lol. Back then I only fished a 1/8oz bait like that. It was pre braid and the tube made it possible to fish a 1/8 Buzz Bait on a bait caster. Tidal bass love that little Buzz Bait, I finished 15th at the 2007 FLW Stren Series on the Potomac with it!
I've been doing this with tubes for a couple years now and for the most part I've almost quit throwing anything else on my buzz baits. I put a couple drops of super glue around the head of the tube just to seal up the hole made by the head of my buzz bait a little better and keeps my tube from sliding up the wire but it seems like it makes my tube last a little bit longer. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
I've never thought to rig a tube on a buzz bait, gonna have to give it a try. I have been using a big bite baits fightin frog on a buzz bait this year with a lot of success, works great!!
Lunker lure made a buzzbait with a tube back in the late 80’s early 90’s I think? I have a few still and they’ve always worked. They definitely were ahead of their time.
I removed the skirt on a buzzbait and put a yamamoto hula grub on, it has that built in skirt on the plastic and the double tail. Ill have to give a tube a shot and see how it goes.
by the way...loving the tush...just loving it. awesome tackle like always. also I'm ababsolutely loving the hat and getting compliments and questions about.your guys tackle. sending them your way. 😊
Great video & tips!!!! Thanks for sharing them Matt!!! Will give them a try on my next outing!! What size Pitt Bodd & Tube is your go-to?? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
I just rigged up a buzzbait with a pit boss right before this video came out. 😂 Glad to hear it works good. I have been smashing them on a Choppo and want to start throwing a traditional buzz more and practice skipping it. Love the tube idea! Do you prefer braid for a single hook buzzer or heavy mono?
I used a zman goat 3.75 inch for the first time on a buzz bait this morning. Really liked it and might be my new go to.. The fish really seemed to like it too.
I have so many buzzbaits. Many are homemade. I have tried and caught fish with a tube trailer, but I did not have the optimal head on that bait. In the river current, I was having some issues with the bait turning to the side as well. I will have to revisit it. Thanks!
My pb 10.8 came on a Strike King Buzz King. I fish a buzzbait a lot at night and use the Buzz King and the D&M Easy Roller both of which can be retrieved slowly. Both of these have too big of a head for a tube to fit, but I will try it with a different one.
I just saw this right after i rigged a toad ….i decided to change it to a tube as you suggested and tomorrow we’ll see. I am hopeful and excited.. so easy to rig. I am a woman so i will try anything
Tin Knocker from the eighties had a vinyl plastic tube on it . Head was made of tin . It was a great buzzbait ahead of its time . Hildebrandt made it .
An old river rat showed this to me and my buddy years ago and I’ve never stopped using the tube as a buzz bait trailer. It never gets torn up and looks great I’m the water.
I love the tube idea. I never thought of that. That boot tail buzz bait seems like it would kill during a shad spawn. How about on a micro buzzbait? Do you fish those naked too? What trailer do you like on the tiny buzz bait?
I recently bought a little buzzbait because of your recommendation but I haven't tossed it yet. I think it's a 1/4 oz with a white skirt. Hopefully I have something that works as a trailer. Have you seen the Salt Strong Slam Shady and their other soft plastics? They're for saltwater but they work for freshwater too. And their new hybrid topwater/ jerk bait should be good for bass. Skinny Lipper is it's name. I'll probably try the Slam Shady on my buzzbait because of the size.
Another awesome and informative video! Thank you for uploading this. Quick question. I’ve noticed that my Buzzbaits do not run with the bait/hook behind and below the blade. Isn’t the blade supposed to be at the waters surface and the bait/hook is directly behind and below the blade under the waters surface? My blades do run at the waters surface, but my bait/hook runs to the right of the blade and at the waters surface. Kinda looks like it’s running on it’s side.
I tried this on one of my buzzbaits and for some reason it runs horizontal in the water. It seems to be rigged straight but doesn't run vertically. What am I doing wrong?
A tube is way more versatile than most give it credit for. I swim it, wake it, hop it on the surface, use it as a jig trailer, buzzbait trailer, crack it, drag it, skip it...need I go on? Two or three colors and 3 different sizes and I don't really need any other plastics on the boat (yeah, right).
Always have issues with rhe buzzbait running slightly to one side or the other when adding plastics. I am usually pretty careful to keep them straight but maybe the buzzbaits I am using arent that great.

This is a great idea. I have to bring back the tubes to try this. What brand of buzzbait did you use on the video?

I have not tried a tube on a buzzbait buy after listening to you I think this weekend I will give it a go and let you know how it worked!!!
give it a try!
Soon as I seen the thumb now I knew it was a tube. That is genius! It almost seems like it's made for a naked buzzbait
awesome!
Great advice! I’ve been using a hog farmer trailer, but love the idea of a tube. 1/8th ounce buzzbait has caught me a lot of fish in last 5 weeks.
Good stuff!

some buzzbaits run poorly.
Any manufacturers you would recommend for quality Buzzbaits?
Well done on the AoY standing. BPT looks promising. Would you fish MLF full-time or do you like fishing both BASS & MLF?
ive got to qualify first
Bps makes a double dipped tube which is heavier than a traditional tube and holds up better a good alternate is a zoom tube

interesting!
