I just realized, in Unleashed’s opening cutscene, when Eggman says “I’ll turn over a new leaf I swear!” Super sonic sort of believed him as he then says “Showing remorse Eggman?” part of me thinks that because of the emerald’s positive energy granting his super form, and Sonic’s general attitude of caring for others in his own way, he actually believed him for a second, we also know thanks to Adventure and chaos using the “negative” energy of the emeralds, maybe the classic chaos emeralds could also activate Sonic’s dark form if he just let anger consume him, idk but it’s something interesting i noticed when watching this video, even though no one might even see this…
I’ve always found it more interesting to make “Dark” versions of characters retain the same goals, just with twisted morals, they’re not necessarily evil, they still fight the good fight, they just don’t hold back and use any means necessary. It can make for an interesting conversation about a hero’s morals, do they simply lack the ability to do what’s necessary, or is there such a thing as going too far? Personally I fall into the former but it does rely alot on context, and contextually if a “dark” hero has a serious blood lust then they are going too far.
I like writing characters like this too. The main hero is an intelligent humanitarian at his core. His usurper clone created by his enemies shares his goal, but since they altered his brain surgically, he's got a very psychopathic ideals about how make a better world. The main hero may dislike waste and stupidity, his twisted reflection takes that frustration of imperfection to genocidal levels. Another time I wrote a regenerator whose ability went haywire creating a clone with not only the same body, but the same memories from the time of the incident. The clone renames himself, is thorn in his side because he knows exactly how to push his buttons. His double goes out of his way to differentiate himself from the orginal. They get into bloody fights over the same woman. It's a fun perspective on have and have not of the same character.
It seems like a more artificial way of creating one of those situations where he may actually willingly roll with showing his darker emotions if it means accomplishing something just that important. A guilty conscience after temporarily throwing out one piece of morality out the window would be a small price to pay for the safety of you and your loved ones. Sometimes, you just have to accept the fact you'll have to wield a power you may not be comfortable with. Because if you don't and continue to fear power completely, someone else with questionable or ulterior motives will take it.
Everyone's said it already, but Dark Super Sonic (and Dark Sonic by association) IS theoretically a canon form of Sonic. Remember in SA1, how Chaos used the negative energy of the chaos emeralds to turn into perfect chaos while Sonic used the positive energy still left inside the chaos emeralds? What if Sonic uses the negative chaos energy inside of the emeralds at one point instead? He'd most likely become Super Dark Sonic instead of the golden hog' we all know and love, since that one is a purely positive chaos energy transformation. too bad Sega nor IDW want to sweep this super cool form under the rug for good. It'd be awesome to have in in some form of game or comic plot one day.
Wasn't dark Sonic in Sonic and the Secret Rings? Not a super form but there was a "Dark Sonic". Believe there was also a red Sonic and green Sonic. Not really worth playing to find out though. Definitely worst game in the franchise.

I really wish they'd use this form more, even in X it was a tonal shift; but a welcome and interesting one. It's a somewhat sterotypical, hero pushed to the edge and snaps type vibe and I think sonic needs more of that. Also, great video! Got me reliving the nostalgia :)
I can see dark sonic appearing in the third live action movie. Just seems like a good direction for that movie to go in with it introducing Shadow and could be a nice spin on Sonic's character development, similar to Spiderman and the black suit.
If you want to see more of it, it appears in the old fan film, Nazo Unleashed, and it's pretty similar to Darkspine Sonic from Sonic And The Secret Rings
That One Dude maybe they don’t use Dark Sonic more because the character of Shadow already exists, so if DS sticks around, then what’s the need for Shadow? He would end up getting pushed aside, like he did to knuckles.

Though, Darkspine Sonic is using all the negative emotion based World Rings, so it's basically just taking whatever anger he had towards Erazor already and amplified it. From what I've gathered here, Dark Super Sonic is basically just Sonic's survival instinct going out of whack. Also, it DID appear in Nazo Unleashed... for a few seconds, and even if it was for longer, it would, by word of god, be unable to do anything against Nazo due to their shared origins of negative Chaos energy.
I gotta agree with this conclusion. However, I've made a conclusion of my own as well. For me, I think Dark Sonic manifested because of the energy the fake chaos emeralds gave off, and because he was truly enraged when he saw just how hurt and scared Chris and Cosmo were. For me, I think Dark Sonic exsisted because while when Sonic uses the chaos emeralds he uses the positive side, having to always maintain a certain image infront of the public and Sonic's nature in not wanting to worry his friends, would cause Sonic to focus on his positive emotions and bottle up his negative emotions, which would in turn lead up to his negative emotions building up at an excessive rate and it would be bottled up so much and so bad, to where I think Dark Sonic would have had long since in the anime Sonic X manifested and would have simply been a being that existed in Sonic's mindscape, but made his first appearance in episode 67 when he was truly, and openly, enraged beyond his self control. I think that he did, as Dark Sonic have full control of his actions, as when he is Super Sonic he has full control of his actions, so why not be able to have full control of his actions as his dark form? But due to how enraged he was and he was enraged so openly and freely, and with how enraged he was with and at Black Narcissus, he didn't hold back and let go of some of the negative emotions he was so constantly and heavily bottling up. This is simply what I think though. Sorry that it's so long, and sorry if some of it doesn't make sense.
i see Dark Sonic as just Sonic no longer concerned with holding back, nothing super, just not restricting himself and eggman being able to bring him out of it is because he realized the one person who not only knows him well but also understands being the bad guy well is looking at him with disappointment for what he has become.
Dark sonic doesn't hold back but he's not like sonic no longer concerned with holding back he has more power then sonic not holding back and he turns super when he uses chaos emeralds
I feel Dark Sonic should be added to the games, albeit maybe with a tweak or 2 to the origins. Like Dragon Ball GT did with its Black Star Dragon Balls, it could show that there's consequences to using the Chaos Emeralds so frequently.

I think Sonic always has the impulses of Dark Sonic in his subconscious, but he just doesn’t consciously act on them. It’s sonic with his inhibitions lowered. His “shadow self”.
Saiyan Scholar I think it’s even more evident due to the fact that Robotnik was able to talk sonic down instantly, without any struggle at all. And psychologically, maybe that’s why we’ve never seen Dark Sonic again. Because Sonic probably thought “ If even Robotnik is surprised by my behavior, and is making sense, then I’ve really got it get a grip on this thing” so his conscious control is strengthened because now he knows what can happen if he loses himself again. Kinda like Gohan after his fight with Cell.

It's crazy the journey sonic has had over the years. From watching my mother play the old Sega games all the way to now its definitely been an interesting ride filled with surprisingly deep lore
Here's what I'd do to go about a Dark Sonic storyline. Piggybacking off of something another commenter said regarding Sonic Unleashed and how Sonic acted towards Eggman's false pleas of surrender, the story could be focused around how the positive energy of the Chaos Emeralds could make Sonic naïve when he goes Super Sonic, and he starts to realize it. It can be a story based around an overreliance on the Chaos Emeralds and causing him to start having darker thoughts, the Emeralds feeding on them. Basically, those darker thoughts of the Chaos Emeralds making him naive and such rise to the surface and even someone like Shadow could feel that something is definitely off. At first, Sonic seems to be a lot more well-rounded in his personality and taking certain things more seriously and with less of a happy go-lucky attitude. Shadow may be trying to explain that something about Sonic isn't sitting right with him, but he's either shrugged off or possibly convinced that Sonic has taken a somewhat different outlook on life. But the longer Sonic thinks this way, the more his personality sways into darker intentions, even acting in ways that are very unbecoming of him. He's more aggressive, and shows far less mercy. This could in fact lead to the initial base Dark Sonic, which there's now a physical indication that something's wrong and cannot be denied any longer. Even Sonic himself realizes what is going on but isn't put off by it. Even Shadow figures out what it is he has been feeling and doesn't like the implications of what Sonic is tapping into. This could lead to a road where Sonic has now become an antagonist, and Shadow may be the only one powerful enough to stop him. A battle between the positive and negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds, revealing Dark Super Sonic and forcing a battle with him and Super Shadow. This causes a great deal of destruction by the battle alone. Even Sonic's other friends attempt to stop Sonic by trying to remind him of the person he was and this isn't him right now. But the negative energy's hold on Sonic becomes apparent. It comes to a head where even Robotnik gets involved, maybe not too long after an encounter with Dark Sonic that unsettled him to the point where even he can't stand how Sonic acts and wishes to put an end to this corruption. And let's face it, Eggman is crafty enough to come up with a form of technology to forcefully remove one's access to the power of the Chaos Emeralds. This could lead to a betrayal of Eggman, using this opportunity to take the Emeralds for himself after he successfully saves Sonic from himself. This puts Sonic in an odd predicament in which he's not so easily trusted by his friends, as he realized he is just as capable of losing himself to that same power all over again with no hope for controlling it. Though despite this, it's his best friend Tails that still trusts Sonic enough to have faith in him learning to control those darker intentions. It teaches him temperance and responsibility of his actions as he can easily be swayed by both sides of the spectrum of Chaos energy. A balance of positive and negative is needed. Through some mental discipline over time, Sonic is able to overcome his susceptibility to the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds as a whole. It even come to the point where Sonic is able to tap into Dark Sonic once more, but with more control, using it to defeat Eggman and retrieving the Emeralds once more. He learns how to use negative energy properly when it's time to take things seriously, but only uses Dark Super Sonic as a last resort if Super Sonic isn't enough. Only he's responsible for this, and he has to live with it. That's more or less how I would go that route. It's effectively a character arc for Sonic that I feel like would be a nice addition. And yes, it would definitely be a comic story because I imagine it would be hard to pull this off in a game without a separate antagonist pulling the strings up until everything comes to head. Hearing about the danger of Sonic being Dark Sonic is one thing. Hearing that Sonic has control of himself, and his power, when he's Dark Sonic is another.....
Even more worrying when you realize that super sonic was able to take down multiple people who could destroy the world or hell even the universe, imagine what dark sonic could do?

Dark Sonic should be incorporated at points where Sonic is at a breaking point. Like if he thinks his friends are all hurt and possibly dead(even if they aren't). Sonic holds back all his anger and resentment at those that anyone who just hate. If anything Sonic's friends are the only ones who are keeping him from loosing it and just not caring anymore. If he thinks he lost them, or if they get hurt really badly, he might snap. And it'll be the ones who harmed his friends that'll regret it.
I thought during the moment in Sonic Lost World when the Zetis were sucking the life out of the world and attacking Sonic, and Sonic was alone and felt that everything was his fault that that would've been a perfect time for Dark Super Sonic to be unleashed. It could be explained away that all the energy being sucked out of the world was similar to Chaos energy and that all the death caused negative energy to form. Then when the Zetis are hurling boulders and going on about being stronger, we could have Sonic catch and crush one of those boulders as he turns into Dark Sonic, proclaiming something along the lines of, "You're stronger now? Guess what. So am I."
@@Teri_Merii_ I watched a walkthrough of the game a bit ago and I don't think Sonic turning into Dark Super Sonic would be any worse than what's already there. The characters go on about killing each other at least a couple times. I don't think Sonic getting angry and talking about being more powerful would be much worse. And if you mean all the death, causing negative energy. Well, the game does explicitly show that the Zedis are draining the world of its life. We actually see Amy collapse as she tells Sonic she loves him and the life is being drained from her
Sonic Adventure said Perfect Chaos used the negative energy of the emeralds while Sonic used the positive. To make it canon maybe they can have a villain capture him and infuse him with the negative energy🤔 Like Jak in Jak & Daxter 2 with the dark eco experiments done to him.
They should either make dark sonic a separation from sonic(like sonics darkside separated from him) or just let ot be his darkside controlling him..but i like the first idea better)..then they can fuse back together to create a balanced more powerful sonic..hmm

A power I'd give Dark Sonic is to use peoples' shadows against them. As in, he can trap people to the spot or paralyze them by using their shadows as some kind of net. While that sounds kinda lame at first, the fact Dark Sonic can move at light speeds and is in complete control of himself is terrifying. If Dark Sonic is Super Sonic who basically no longer has morals or is so fed up with your shit that he no longer cares about right and wrong, him being able to toy with you like that is horrifying. Maybe he can control people by manipulating their shadows like marionettes?
When Sonic uses this form, he doesn’t turn evil, he’s just using his anger to overpower his enemies and is not afraid to kill if push. He still knows who are his friends are and will do whatever he can to protect them by any means necessary. But because of his design, fans think it’s what Sonic turning evil to go nuts to kill his friends for no reason. So far Sonic X version of Sonic is the only one who can achieve it.
But I feel it's the opposite of Super Sonic. The Chao Emeralds released energy through power rings. Maybe Dark Sonic absorbs energy, making it more dangerous than Super Sonic.
That's something that i think about Dark sonic, he's just an angry Sonic with a different look thanks to the power of the fake chaos emeralds. I also think a lot of people forgets about the fact that Dark Sonic was a one time thing that is no related to the real chaos emerald at all. I mean, the fake chaos emeralds were weaker in many ways compared to the chaos emeralds, so the boost given to Sonic might act in the same way, if anything else, the fake emeralds just give Sonic a more intense rage, a new (and cool) look and a small boost. But yeah, the fanbase decide to give it more power compared to what we see in that scene just because it looks cool
I've always really enjoyed dark forms of characters ever since I was really little. Things like Dark Sonic, Spider-Man being influenced by the symbiote, and Beyblade Dark Eagle have always really fascinated me, and I think they're all really badass.
Dark sonic is sonic rage suppressed from being from using light too long . He needs to find balance. Wish they could have gone deeper with a arc explaining his transformation.
I think Sonic has very good control of his emotions, therefore it would be rare for him to turn into Dark Sonic since dark Sonic is made by his inner rage or anguish. So I’m order to see this form more often I would think something very big and traumatic would have to happen like on the Sonic X show.
Oh my gosh! Thank you for making this video! Dark Sonic is so underappreciated. If I could have that form return, I'd love to see it appear in the upcoming IDW Sonic comics. If you haven't been up to date with the comics from IDW I won't spoil anything. But I can definitely say that the way the story is developing and how Sonic's character is being pushed, I could see Dark Sonic returning. Especially when considering that point you made about all the crud he has gone through. This was an awesome video. Thanks so much for covering this. I like the idea of Dark (super) Sonic, I'm a sucker for the dark side cliché in media, id like to see it in something akin to a Sonic battle remaster of some kind. I like the idea of Sonic's dark form being a source of negative energy that slowly corrupts him, turning his emotions black due to the overuse of chaos emeralds and the draw backs of using them to much? Chaos is energy, energy enriched by the heart, like a filter, maybe that filter can be run down or eroded? Sorry, now I'm just writing fan fiction, hope this idea is what you think as well! I hope he makes an appearance in the new games or anything else Seeing Sonic emotionally pushed over the edge to the point he will rip the bad guys in half with no mercy because they had it coming, Having a form that shows how Sonic acts when he’s purely in meltdown mode is epic as hell.
I would love it if Dark Sonic appeared as a plot twist during close to the end of the game or in the final boss. Maybe a plot device splits his dark form from him, almost like fleetway super sonic, which takes the game in a different direction. Maybe Eggman ends up saving Sonic. There’s so much that could happen… Dark Sonic needs to return!
Admittedly, I wish sonic would have transformed when Amy and Cosmo got trapped with Amy replacing Chris in that situation, would’ve built up that dynamic just a little bit more
Dark Sonic is a god damn true form! And we need to see him again in the Canon storyline, game or comic. He adds another layer of emotional depth to Sonic's character in showing that even the nicest of people have their breaking points. I'm planning on incorporating Dark Sonic into a fanfic I'm currently writing. Basically, Sonic is forced to return to his childhood home of Christmas Island when his friends receive news that Eggman has built a factory there. Sonic really doesn't want to go back because he was bullied by pretty much everyone on the island who saw him as a freak for his speed and blue color. So he's harboring a lot of repressed anger when he arrives that's just waiting to be let out.
Sonic Forces was quite literally the perfect opportunity for Dark Sonic to appear. A new (apparently) incredibly powerful villain, old villains supposedly uniting, most of the world under Eggman's rule and the final nail in the coffin was that Sonic was apparently tortured for months up on the Death Egg. In any other circumstance (aka a circumstance where #DarkSonicisagoddamntrueform) Dark Sonic would DEFINITELY appear! I mean... seriously SEGA! This is the very definition of wasted potential!
The only bad thing about Dark Sonic is that in the scene he appears, Eggman is a hypocrite. He says: "threatening to kill someone is ok, but actually killing them is going too far", but In the last half of Season 2 of Sonic X (A.K.A Sonic Adventure 2 Adaptation), he threw Sonic out of the Ark with the intention to kill him, he destroyed Prison Island knowning Sonic, Tails and Amy were there with no remorse. I hate how they made Eggman in this scene.
Sonic X is really a goldmine of underrated stuff, especially the japanese version (since that it hasn't any censored/altered part-dialog). Ironically i didn't notice at first this transformation, but i think it's very cool.

To know that Dark Sonic is crazy powerful is normal. To understand how brutal he is with his strength is scary. But to know that Sonic could potentially turn into Dark at ANY GIVEN MOMENT... That is true horror.

Sonic Cinema Universe Listen to this person. Listen well and take notes. Your fluffy, goofy, and emotional teenage sonic twisted into a temporary villain, even for a second like in Sonic X, would be a beautiful sight of fiction, and would earn a WHOLE lot of respect from old fans. To top it all off, you already showed us in the first film that sonic has emotional bursts of power. This could be a logical step from that small narrative point. It doesn't have to be in the second movie. If you have plans that would clash if this was added please don't change them just to add Dark sonic. Just keep this in mind as an option that you can choose that will honor the fans, make for a great plot twist, and creates good merch.

I’d like to see dark sonic in the comics where something bad happens to Sonic’s friends and he finally lets loose as dark sonic but after opening the bottle on those emotions and power letting that part of himself out for the first time it starts to become increasingly difficult to put the lid back on and keep it from popping off again. He would then have to go on a quest to come to terms with it and really learn how to manage his emotions without going into a violent rage. I feel that would be an interesting character arc for him.

This is one of my favorite characters in the sonic franchise, I just find it interesting how he can be like this when he's know for being the main protagonist in sonic.
Sonic adventure states that Chaos emeralds harness both negative and positive forms of energy, like how the Chao can be neutral, Dark, and good as well.

Personally, if I wrote it into any Sonic story; I would have Dark Sonic as a unstable version of his Super form. As in, it's incomplete since the transformation focuses on his negative emotions. In honesty, the form kinda reminded me of Goku's False Super Saiyan transformation shown in the Lord Slug movie.

You know this shows that every hero out in any continuity has these suppressed darkness. An Sonic is no different and has been so much dark forms in different circumstances like Darkspine and Werehog were he had evil released but still retained his mind and thoughts. This shows that he can have darkness but will never truly succumb to the darkness in his heart. So great video. Can you do one about the Werehog or Fleetway Super Sonic. If you could that would be awesome.
The same could be said about some one like Sora from kingdom hearts. In KH3 there is an ability called Rage Form. It’s happens when Sora is close to death and uses the Darkness to save himself. He still has control because he is able to use the Keyblade(a weapon only people with hearts can wield).
Fleetway Super Sonic is basically Dark Super Sonic, except completely insane. He's actually a demonic alter ego created by the Chaos Emeralds, which only have negative Energy in the Fleetway timeline. So yeah, Fleetway is a Dark form. Insane enough to try to kill his own friends in that state.

I just realized, in Unleashed’s opening cutscene, when Eggman says “I’ll turn over a new leaf I swear!” Super sonic sort of believed him as he then says “Showing remorse Eggman?” part of me thinks that because of the emerald’s positive energy granting his super form, and Sonic’s general attitude of caring for others in his own way, he actually believed him for a second, we also know thanks to Adventure and chaos using the “negative” energy of the emeralds, maybe the classic chaos emeralds could also activate Sonic’s dark form if he just let anger consume him, idk but it’s something interesting i noticed when watching this video, even though no one might even see this…

I’ve always found it more interesting to make “Dark” versions of characters retain the same goals, just with twisted morals, they’re not necessarily evil, they still fight the good fight, they just don’t hold back and use any means necessary. It can make for an interesting conversation about a hero’s morals, do they simply lack the ability to do what’s necessary, or is there such a thing as going too far? Personally I fall into the former but it does rely alot on context, and contextually if a “dark” hero has a serious blood lust then they are going too far.
I like writing characters like this too. The main hero is an intelligent humanitarian at his core. His usurper clone created by his enemies shares his goal, but since they altered his brain surgically, he's got a very psychopathic ideals about how make a better world. The main hero may dislike waste and stupidity, his twisted reflection takes that frustration of imperfection to genocidal levels.
Another time I wrote a regenerator whose ability went haywire creating a clone with not only the same body, but the same memories from the time of the incident. The clone renames himself, is thorn in his side because he knows exactly how to push his buttons. His double goes out of his way to differentiate himself from the orginal. They get into bloody fights over the same woman. It's a fun perspective on have and have not of the same character.

I don't really see Dark Sonic as a villain, more like this overprotective and enraged form that takes fighting his enemies to the extreme.
It seems like a more artificial way of creating one of those situations where he may actually willingly roll with showing his darker emotions if it means accomplishing something just that important. A guilty conscience after temporarily throwing out one piece of morality out the window would be a small price to pay for the safety of you and your loved ones. Sometimes, you just have to accept the fact you'll have to wield a power you may not be comfortable with. Because if you don't and continue to fear power completely, someone else with questionable or ulterior motives will take it.

Everyone's said it already, but Dark Super Sonic (and Dark Sonic by association) IS theoretically a canon form of Sonic. Remember in SA1, how Chaos used the negative energy of the chaos emeralds to turn into perfect chaos while Sonic used the positive energy still left inside the chaos emeralds? What if Sonic uses the negative chaos energy inside of the emeralds at one point instead? He'd most likely become Super Dark Sonic instead of the golden hog' we all know and love, since that one is a purely positive chaos energy transformation.
too bad Sega nor IDW want to sweep this super cool form under the rug for good. It'd be awesome to have in in some form of game or comic plot one day.

Though, Darkspine Sonic is using all the negative emotion based World Rings, so it's basically just taking whatever anger he had towards Erazor already and amplified it. From what I've gathered here, Dark Super Sonic is basically just Sonic's survival instinct going out of whack.
Also, it DID appear in Nazo Unleashed... for a few seconds, and even if it was for longer, it would, by word of god, be unable to do anything against Nazo due to their shared origins of negative Chaos energy.

I gotta agree with this conclusion. However, I've made a conclusion of my own as well. For me, I think Dark Sonic manifested because of the energy the fake chaos emeralds gave off, and because he was truly enraged when he saw just how hurt and scared Chris and Cosmo were. For me, I think Dark Sonic exsisted because while when Sonic uses the chaos emeralds he uses the positive side, having to always maintain a certain image infront of the public and Sonic's nature in not wanting to worry his friends, would cause Sonic to focus on his positive emotions and bottle up his negative emotions, which would in turn lead up to his negative emotions building up at an excessive rate and it would be bottled up so much and so bad, to where I think Dark Sonic would have had long since in the anime Sonic X manifested and would have simply been a being that existed in Sonic's mindscape, but made his first appearance in episode 67 when he was truly, and openly, enraged beyond his self control. I think that he did, as Dark Sonic have full control of his actions, as when he is Super Sonic he has full control of his actions, so why not be able to have full control of his actions as his dark form? But due to how enraged he was and he was enraged so openly and freely, and with how enraged he was with and at Black Narcissus, he didn't hold back and let go of some of the negative emotions he was so constantly and heavily bottling up. This is simply what I think though. Sorry that it's so long, and sorry if some of it doesn't make sense.

I think Sonic always has the impulses of Dark Sonic in his subconscious, but he just doesn’t consciously act on them. It’s sonic with his inhibitions lowered. His “shadow self”.

And psychologically, maybe that’s why we’ve never seen Dark Sonic again. Because Sonic probably thought “ If even Robotnik is surprised by my behavior, and is making sense, then I’ve really got it get a grip on this thing” so his conscious control is strengthened because now he knows what can happen if he loses himself again. Kinda like Gohan after his fight with Cell.

Darkspine Sonic: The closest thing to Dark Sonic
It's crazy the journey sonic has had over the years. From watching my mother play the old Sega games all the way to now its definitely been an interesting ride filled with surprisingly deep lore
Here's what I'd do to go about a Dark Sonic storyline. Piggybacking off of something another commenter said regarding Sonic Unleashed and how Sonic acted towards Eggman's false pleas of surrender, the story could be focused around how the positive energy of the Chaos Emeralds could make Sonic naïve when he goes Super Sonic, and he starts to realize it. It can be a story based around an overreliance on the Chaos Emeralds and causing him to start having darker thoughts, the Emeralds feeding on them.
Basically, those darker thoughts of the Chaos Emeralds making him naive and such rise to the surface and even someone like Shadow could feel that something is definitely off. At first, Sonic seems to be a lot more well-rounded in his personality and taking certain things more seriously and with less of a happy go-lucky attitude. Shadow may be trying to explain that something about Sonic isn't sitting right with him, but he's either shrugged off or possibly convinced that Sonic has taken a somewhat different outlook on life.
But the longer Sonic thinks this way, the more his personality sways into darker intentions, even acting in ways that are very unbecoming of him. He's more aggressive, and shows far less mercy. This could in fact lead to the initial base Dark Sonic, which there's now a physical indication that something's wrong and cannot be denied any longer. Even Sonic himself realizes what is going on but isn't put off by it. Even Shadow figures out what it is he has been feeling and doesn't like the implications of what Sonic is tapping into.
This could lead to a road where Sonic has now become an antagonist, and Shadow may be the only one powerful enough to stop him. A battle between the positive and negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds, revealing Dark Super Sonic and forcing a battle with him and Super Shadow. This causes a great deal of destruction by the battle alone. Even Sonic's other friends attempt to stop Sonic by trying to remind him of the person he was and this isn't him right now. But the negative energy's hold on Sonic becomes apparent.
It comes to a head where even Robotnik gets involved, maybe not too long after an encounter with Dark Sonic that unsettled him to the point where even he can't stand how Sonic acts and wishes to put an end to this corruption. And let's face it, Eggman is crafty enough to come up with a form of technology to forcefully remove one's access to the power of the Chaos Emeralds. This could lead to a betrayal of Eggman, using this opportunity to take the Emeralds for himself after he successfully saves Sonic from himself.
This puts Sonic in an odd predicament in which he's not so easily trusted by his friends, as he realized he is just as capable of losing himself to that same power all over again with no hope for controlling it. Though despite this, it's his best friend Tails that still trusts Sonic enough to have faith in him learning to control those darker intentions. It teaches him temperance and responsibility of his actions as he can easily be swayed by both sides of the spectrum of Chaos energy. A balance of positive and negative is needed.
Through some mental discipline over time, Sonic is able to overcome his susceptibility to the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds as a whole. It even come to the point where Sonic is able to tap into Dark Sonic once more, but with more control, using it to defeat Eggman and retrieving the Emeralds once more. He learns how to use negative energy properly when it's time to take things seriously, but only uses Dark Super Sonic as a last resort if Super Sonic isn't enough. Only he's responsible for this, and he has to live with it.
That's more or less how I would go that route. It's effectively a character arc for Sonic that I feel like would be a nice addition. And yes, it would definitely be a comic story because I imagine it would be hard to pull this off in a game without a separate antagonist pulling the strings up until everything comes to head. Dark Sonic should be incorporated at points where Sonic is at a breaking point. Like if he thinks his friends are all hurt and possibly dead(even if they aren't). Sonic holds back all his anger and resentment at those that anyone who just hate. If anything Sonic's friends are the only ones who are keeping him from loosing it and just not caring anymore. If he thinks he lost them, or if they get hurt really badly, he might snap. And it'll be the ones who harmed his friends that'll regret it.

I thought during the moment in Sonic Lost World when the Zetis were sucking the life out of the world and attacking Sonic, and Sonic was alone and felt that everything was his fault that that would've been a perfect time for Dark Super Sonic to be unleashed. It could be explained away that all the energy being sucked out of the world was similar to Chaos energy and that all the death caused negative energy to form.
Then when the Zetis are hurling boulders and going on about being stronger, we could have Sonic catch and crush one of those boulders as he turns into Dark Sonic, proclaiming something along the lines of, "You're stronger now? Guess what. So am I."

The characters go on about killing each other at least a couple times. I don't think Sonic getting angry and talking about being more powerful would be much worse.
And if you mean all the death, causing negative energy. Well, the game does explicitly show that the Zedis are draining the world of its life. We actually see Amy collapse as she tells Sonic she loves him and the life is being drained from her

I wish they would bring this back. This concept would be so cool in a mainline game! Its such an interesting premise, like what if he never snapped out of it? There's too much potential.
A power I'd give Dark Sonic is to use peoples' shadows against them. As in, he can trap people to the spot or paralyze them by using their shadows as some kind of net. While that sounds kinda lame at first, the fact Dark Sonic can move at light speeds and is in complete control of himself is terrifying. If Dark Sonic is Super Sonic who basically no longer has morals or is so fed up with your shit that he no longer cares about right and wrong, him being able to toy with you like that is horrifying. Maybe he can control people by manipulating their shadows like marionettes?
When Sonic uses this form, he doesn’t turn evil, he’s just using his anger to overpower his enemies and is not afraid to kill if push.
He still knows who are his friends are and will do whatever he can to protect them by any means necessary.
But because of his design, fans think it’s what Sonic turning evil to go nuts to kill his friends for no reason.
So far Sonic X version of Sonic is the only one who can achieve it.

That's something that i think about Dark sonic, he's just an angry Sonic with a different look thanks to the power of the fake chaos emeralds. I also think a lot of people forgets about the fact that Dark Sonic was a one time thing that is no related to the real chaos emerald at all.
I mean, the fake chaos emeralds were weaker in many ways compared to the chaos emeralds, so the boost given to Sonic might act in the same way, if anything else, the fake emeralds just give Sonic a more intense rage, a new (and cool) look and a small boost. But yeah, the fanbase decide to give it more power compared to what we see in that scene just because it looks cool

I've always really enjoyed dark forms of characters ever since I was really little. Things like Dark Sonic, Spider-Man being influenced by the symbiote, and Beyblade Dark Eagle have always really fascinated me, and I think they're all really badass.
Dark sonic is one of my favorite variations of sonic, I love it when good guys let loose and run wild & let it go.

But I can definitely say that the way the story is developing and how Sonic's character is being pushed, I could see Dark Sonic returning. Especially when considering that point you made about all the crud he has gone through.

I like the idea of Dark (super) Sonic, I'm a sucker for the dark side cliché in media, id like to see it in something akin to a Sonic battle remaster of some kind. I like the idea of Sonic's dark form being a source of negative energy that slowly corrupts him, turning his emotions black due to the overuse of chaos emeralds and the draw backs of using them to much? Chaos is energy, energy enriched by the heart, like a filter, maybe that filter can be run down or eroded? Sorry, now I'm just writing fan fiction, hope this idea is what you think as well!

I would love it if Dark Sonic appeared as a plot twist during close to the end of the game or in the final boss. Maybe a plot device splits his dark form from him, almost like fleetway super sonic, which takes the game in a different direction. Maybe Eggman ends up saving Sonic. There’s so much that could happen… Dark Sonic needs to return!

Dark Sonic is a god damn true form! And we need to see him again in the Canon storyline, game or comic. He adds another layer of emotional depth to Sonic's character in showing that even the nicest of people have their breaking points.
I'm planning on incorporating Dark Sonic into a fanfic I'm currently writing. Basically, Sonic is forced to return to his childhood home of Christmas Island when his friends receive news that Eggman has built a factory there. Sonic really doesn't want to go back because he was bullied by pretty much everyone on the island who saw him as a freak for his speed and blue color. So he's harboring a lot of repressed anger when he arrives that's just waiting to be let out.

Sonic Forces was quite literally the perfect opportunity for Dark Sonic to appear. A new (apparently) incredibly powerful villain, old villains supposedly uniting, most of the world under Eggman's rule and the final nail in the coffin was that Sonic was apparently tortured for months up on the Death Egg. In any other circumstance (aka a circumstance where #DarkSonicisagoddamntrueform) Dark Sonic would DEFINITELY appear! I mean... seriously SEGA! This is the very definition of wasted potential!

The only bad thing about Dark Sonic is that in the scene he appears, Eggman is a hypocrite. He says: "threatening to kill someone is ok, but actually killing them is going too far", but In the last half of Season 2 of Sonic X (A.K.A Sonic Adventure 2 Adaptation), he threw Sonic out of the Ark with the intention to kill him, he destroyed Prison Island knowning Sonic, Tails and Amy were there with no remorse. I hate how they made Eggman in this scene.
Sonic X is really a goldmine of underrated stuff, especially the japanese version (since that it hasn't any censored/altered part-dialog). Ironically i didn't notice at first this transformation, but i think it's very cool.

Your fluffy, goofy, and emotional teenage sonic twisted into a temporary villain, even for a second like in Sonic X, would be a beautiful sight of fiction, and would earn a WHOLE lot of respect from old fans.
To top it all off, you already showed us in the first film that sonic has emotional bursts of power. This could be a logical step from that small narrative point.
It doesn't have to be in the second movie.
If you have plans that would clash if this was added please don't change them just to add Dark sonic.
Just keep this in mind as an option that you can choose that will honor the fans, make for a great plot twist, and creates good merch.

I’d like to see dark sonic in the comics where something bad happens to Sonic’s friends and he finally lets loose as dark sonic but after opening the bottle on those emotions and power letting that part of himself out for the first time it starts to become increasingly difficult to put the lid back on and keep it from popping off again. He would then have to go on a quest to come to terms with it and really learn how to manage his emotions without going into a violent rage. I feel that would be an interesting character arc for him.

Personally, if I wrote it into any Sonic story; I would have Dark Sonic as a unstable version of his Super form. As in, it's incomplete since the transformation focuses on his negative emotions.

You know this shows that every hero out in any continuity has these suppressed darkness. An Sonic is no different and has been so much dark forms in different circumstances like Darkspine and Werehog were he had evil released but still retained his mind and thoughts. This shows that he can have darkness but will never truly succumb to the darkness in his heart.

The same could be said about some one like Sora from kingdom hearts. In KH3 there is an ability called Rage Form. It’s happens when Sora is close to death and uses the Darkness to save himself. He still has control because he is able to use the Keyblade(a weapon only people with hearts can wield).
Fleetway Super Sonic is basically Dark Super Sonic, except completely insane. He's actually a demonic alter ego created by the Chaos Emeralds, which only have negative Energy in the Fleetway timeline. So yeah, Fleetway is a Dark form. Insane enough to try to kill his own friends in that state.
