Fleetway Super Sonic is an interesting take on the character, who understandably has a large cult following to the point where many people think of him instead when ‘fleetway sonic’ is mentioned. The character is often associated with other evil Sonics, like the ‘majin’ Sonic from CD’s sound test, and fan horror character Sonic.exe. With the character’s newfound popularity, it’s great that videos like this exist to to inform newcomers
I always liked this spin on things, as you could see Super Sonic in Sonic 2 going around at insane speeds, and the music if taken the wrong way is kinda menacing. It just makes sense to go with the old American backstory too! I just think it's neat that Super went from a saving grace to an unfixable issue
I think Archie's evil Super Sonic was definitely a reference to StC's Super. One panel in particular feels like a pretty straight homage of that page where Super's laughing and turns back into Sonic. That Archie comic came out around the time Tekno (and Ebony) started making cameo appearances, so at least some of the writers and artists were aware of the Fleetway series.
@@JohnnyVector I'm not sure if it was this situation, also, or just the OVA, but I think Archie might've gotten in trouble doing what little they did. Amy calls Tekno by name in one panel, which would go a little beyond StC characters filling out background shots. Fleetway's in a weird legal era because I think everything that's in it is creator-owned, like how basically everything in pre-reboot Archie became off limits for similar reasons. I know Ian Flynn said he got permission from Nigel Kitching to use the Metalix, but nothing ever came of it because things would've been too complicated to sort though.
Even though I agree with the Hulk comparison (StC writers were actually big Marvel fans,) this Super-Sonic may also be inspired by Dragon Ball. In the very first season, Goku is feared by his partners, once they figured out he can turn to a giant gorilla, and probably killed his grandfather by accident. They end up using his transformation against Pilaf (the greatest villain in the series,) in a way that also happens in Sonic the Comic. Big difference here, Goku was not aware of his alter-ego for a really long time.
funny enough when goku first achieves his super . he does warn gohan to leave because in his new form enhansing his rage he may even attack gohan his son, although he post battle returns to being kind and even attempts to spare the guy he fought
He really is the embodiment of "chaos". My revitalized interest in Fleetway was due to their appearance in an FnF mod. An odd little inclusion in a mod about Sonic Creepypasta's. -His & Tails dolls songs slap.-
when eggman is an really bad character in the modern era of sonic but his part of an song slaps harder than sonic destroying his robots -triple trouble is an cool song-
Actually one of the most notable aspects of super Saiyan is that it typically makes you more aggressive. That's why you can't use the Spirit bomb while in super Saiyan because you need to have a calm mind and be pure of heart.
I always saw Fleetway Sonic and thought, ok what is happening to Sonic? I never saw him going crazy like that in games. And now I finally found out where he came from and why hes like this. Thx for this video :D
Here's an interesting bit of trivia actually, that further strengthens the connection between (Fleetway) Super Sonic and the initial Super Saiyan. When Goku first transformed to Super Saiyan, his personality did shift to a bit more of a vicious and sadistic side. Goku essentially regressed back to the Kakarot that he was initially born to be, before he learned to control it.
I think all that power initially drives person mad. Which is why Goku and Gohan had to train them selves to be calm in that state. And how did I not realize that a thing called chaos emerald would cause a creature to be violent?😊
I had no idea these comics existed but the story of super sonic seems like a great one! I'm really glad you took the time to cover it. I think It's actually quite sad how it ended. He was good for years only to have to be forced to merge with sonic again. Feels bad, man.
Me too, as an American I never heard of these comics before and they seemed very obscure to non British sonic fans, I'm glad they are getting some attention.
I adored Sonic the Comic. I'm glad to have found this video. I'm going to see if I can find a collection of the comics online to read again as an adult.
I hope you read this! I voice Fleetway Super Sonic! He has been an overwhelming joy to voice, and has made a big impact on my life 😁 I intend to continue giving him the voice that deserves to be heard, and so far I have been able to achieve that to a degree. My dream is to be his official VA by Sega, and I'll wait as long as it takes! I may be a woman but that will never stop me, or let people say otherwise voicing him.
The notable thing about Goku's Super form was that IT DID CHANGE HIS PERSONALITY. He wasn't fighting for fun anymore. He became cold, and menacing. This personality change eventually did wear off, but I'm still surprised that you were clueless about this huge aspect of it. having said that, it was Gohan who has more resemblance to Fleetway Super Sonic due to his anger issues when gaining a new form. But even that pales in comparison to the actual Super Sonic. His personality is so wildly different, that it does seem like they just wanted to do their own thing entirely.
Having looked at stuff related to Fleetway Sonic online, be it wikis or videos or fan stuff, I will say it is quite interesting. As for Fleetway Super Sonic being similar to The Hulk in regards to transformation, wow, I never noticed. Excellent video, mate. Take care. I’d love to see you make a video about Sally Acorn and Rally4Sally down the line, may you always be good.
Thank you very much! Sally Acorn sounds like a good idea. I'm only familiar with her from the cartoon but I've started reading the Archie comics too so I might cover her when I'm done.

Fleetway's Super Sonic is interesting, but I think I prefer the version that Sonic X hinted at during the Metarex arc, dubbed Dark Sonic by fans. It makes more sense to me as a form separate from Super.
Grew up with the Fleetway books and this version of Super Sonic. I didn't really enjoy the character after issue 100, truth be told. It felt like Kitching wrote himself into a corner and, instead of a proper showdown, we got a deus ex machina depowering. There were a good 20 issues or so of build up to a fight in issue 100 and it's just cast aside in favour of showing the gang overthrowing Robotnik.
Thanks for the comment. From what I've read it does seem like the whole amnesia thing was done because the writers had no idea what to do with SS. I can see how some wouldn't be happy with how things turned out.
I still think Fleetway is too far away from Sonic's original characteristics when it comes to Super Sonic. But the idea is still very interesting! To me, this Fleetway Super Sonic could be what Sonic would become if he wasn't all clear in his head and lost to anger. Imagine an even more broken Shadow. Dark Super Sonic from the Sonic X anime is probably the closest we get to Fleetway here.
It's surreal seeing these comics again, I got bought them at the time and remember how much I adored the supersonic art and the Sidewinder gang in particular (For some reason the one where's he's holding a cup of tea next to the fire really stuck with me). No wonder i remember the art is just incredible
Honestly, in some ways, Super Sonic's personality feels almost like a drama-preserving handicap put on the form. Adaptations generally don't include the whole "Needs to consume a shit-ton of rings to function" thing as a trait of Super form... and to be fair, neither do the games when cutscenes are concerned. Even as early as Sonic 2, Sonic is able to transform after going through the totally-ringless Death Egg Zone, and later on in Sonic Advance, he spends about a week just flying around in space- Or maybe it just took him that long to get back from the moon? Even at 25000mph, that's a three-day trip. Either way, Super Sonic being a gas-guzzler doesn't appear to be canon in the games themselves, and definitely isn't in the cartoons and comics. With that in mind, it raises the question of "Why doesn't Sonic use his Super form... well, as much as anyone playing the classic-style games will on their playthrough?" The Doylist answer is, of course, "Because then there wouldn't be a story", but that doesn't mean we don't need a Watsonian, internal explanation. Lack of access to the Emeralds can be an answer, true, but adaptations tend to like it when Sonic can visit Knuckles any day of the week, and Knuckles spends basically all his time sitting in front of a giant Chaos Emerald that can also turn people Super. StC provides that. Sonic can't solve all of his problems by turning into an invincible golden god on the regular because said invincible golden god wants to murder his friends, and isn't even guaranteed to attack the villains first. It's not the _cleanest_ justification, and it does vastly inhibit the viability of the form even for situation that warrant its use, but it works. And it prevents people asking the question of "Seriously, the Master Emerald is right there, why don't you just turn into Super Sonic, blow the Death Egg of the sky, and have your girlfriend restored to flesh and blood by sunset?" Also, he's just the best version of a superpowered evil side for Sonic himself. Darkspine is cool but really difficult to work in (what with being fuelled by less than half of a set of macguffins that only exist in a book), and Dark Super is just... boring.
Now that you mentioned sonic and dragon ball I never really thought about it but sonic counter part would be goku as the protagonist.Shadow as vegeta as the villain who becomes hero .Silver being the time traveler who would be trunks.
@@Fanatic_Foremem I'm pretty sure that people consider Knuckles as Piccolo. Although these days, he's more like Yamcha. Also, Metal doesn't have that 'I'll do things my way' edgelord vibe, considering his programming makes him serve Eggman. Vegeta serves no one!
@@antyep yeah and how well has that worked out, Heroes, free riders, clearly something was up in forces since eggman needed to use a copy. Metal still does what he wants even under mind control, seems like he's VERY much vegeta.
I've read it like 8/10 months ago and while reading it I was so amazed and invested in the comic because it brings super sonic into a more dark tone :)
Now I WISH they continued into the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle storyline! Imagine how EVIL Shadow would look if they went down that path still! It would be amazing to see
S&K was the first appearance of the space and flight abilities. There are a couple of mentions, notably the first appearances of SSJ1 and SSJ2, as well as Legendary Super Saiyans like Broly or Kale (potentially due to the seemingly demonic elements of the Legendary forms) that imply that the SSJ forms may amplify emotions to the point of the wielder's decisions being affected.
Am I the only one who finds it strange this video makes a point about Super Sonic being suspiciously similar to The Incredible Hulk, but doesn't once mention that both are actually based on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Absolutely awesome video man!!! As a fellow UK Sonic fan I too grew up with the Fleetway Sonic The Comic stories aswell, Super Sonic in particular has always been a very memorable character of the run! I would love to see you do videos for Shortfuse the Cybernik or Commander Brutus at some point! Keep up the awesome work man!!!
I recall reading some stuff from StC Online. Super Sonic was implied to be the one destroying Silver's future instead of Iblis (although that was still Silver's name for SS) and I believe Silver had come into conflict with Sonic by mistaking him for his counterpart (although I may be misrembering that). Hyper Sonic was also featured, being more like its original counterpart (as Sonic had absorbed a fountain of _pure_ Chaos energy and so wasn't corrupted by it). Although it is worth noting that Amy immediately disputed the name of Hyper Sonic due to him being, in her own words, "just Sonic!" To my knowledge however he's only appeared once so far, albeit in a significant role, destroying a bunch of Drakon ships (along with much of their tech being destroyed by a virus Robotnik had installed), reconnecting Miracle Planet and Mobius and towing Drak, home of the Drakons, back to its usual position and away from Mobius.
According to the wiki, Super Sonic also makes a couple more appearances, once when Sonic transforms while fighting Shadow, and again when it's revealed that Ebony kept a bottle of some of SS's essence, which Sonic accidentally opens, causing him to transform. One Dexter "Codex" Bagstille made an attempt to bring out Super Sonic and control him with a collar capable of draining his Chaos energy, only for it to completely fail. The wiki isn't too clear on how it happens but somehow Super Sonic manages to reseparate from Sonic (or at least I believe so?) and drain the Chaos energy from the Omni-Viewer. It's heavily implied that this is connected to his appearance as "Iblis". He later teams up with Robotnik to attempt to destroy Sonic with their combined power, only to inevitably betray him. Porker subdues him by siphoning his Chaos energy. The Wiki claims he's "killed" by it but given his reappearance as Iblis I find that unlikely.
Man that would’ve been a WAY better storyline in my opinion Silver wants to desperately get rid of sonic to save his future due to fleetway nearly destroying the whole dimension, which would make sense considering silver might have seen the famous super sonic…but sonic and co would have to travel forward in time to realize the threat and learn how to prevent it……what have I written?
I used to read this comic so much when I was growing up! You could cover the Metallix. I remember what they looked like but not really what their deal was?
I already knew about psycho super sonic but this still got recommended to me after playing the FNF mod Edit: 2:23 That’s not entirely true. When Goku went super saiyan for the first time he was at a state of rage, even threatening to kill his own son. But the whole plot point of the transformation being unlocked by sheer rage was dropped pretty early.
There has to be a reason behind Sonic not losing control when turning into his super form. Maybe the ones who nourished Super Sonic could have changed his fate when they combined Super Sonic back with Sonic himself giving Sonic more control over his inner self.
I would love a story where Fleetway Sonic appears during a battle with Eggman and starts a allout war against the rest of the Sonic cast battling not just all of Eggmans bots but also his regular forms friends which leads to a scene where Fleetway advances towards the beaten Eggman before Eggman uses his greatest creation Metal SOnic to attack Fleetway and then Knuckles knocks Super Sonic out
Fun fact: speaking of super sonic and ashura being the last vid in the series so in sonic 3 alone not sonic 3 and knuckles you can catch a small glimpse of ashura while transforming into super sonic
I guess that fleetway sonic may become more popular for having his own song on the mod for the rythym game called Friday night funkin called VS Sonic.exe for having his own song on the mod.
@@cyberOIO yes, it does, many people including me became to know about him because of the mod, and yes, viral games did exist, mario and sonic were examples of that, just because something became popular because a homage to it was made in a ´´viral game´´, doesnt mean you need to hate on everyone and ruin everything.
as someone encountering Fleetway Sonic for the first time in the friday night funkin' vs. Sonic.exe mod (yeah, i'm that guy), this helped a lot. thanks!
The way I see it, the reason for the Fleetway Version of Super Sonic becoming evil is because Sonic wouldn't be able to control the energy of the Chaos Emeralds, though in the games, he seems to be able to harness their power just fine without his heroic personality being changed in any way due to him having a strong sense of justice, so I'm guessing that means the Fleetway version of Sonic is actually weaker than his video game counterpart if his will is unable to control such power.
There was another's version of Super Sonic in STC. In an alternate Mobius, where Sonic is evil and the Robotnik figure for that world, the main Sonic pushes him so far that he stress out to become Super Sonic, which is nice and chill.
Thought I would mention there was one instant where sonic goes crazy in Sonic X, which was Dark Sonic and that is the only time something similar to this happened.
I read sonic the comics growing up and I remember there was this one story line where sonic and maybe some of the freedom fighters went to a parallel universe and the sonic there was an evil dictator. The way they toppled him was by making the evil sonic turn into super sonic, who was 'mellow yellow' and wanted to be a kind ruler instead, suggesting the super transformation has a reverse moral alignment to the original.
StC was the Sonic canon of my childhood! Awesome characters like Shortfuse, Techno and Jonny Lightfoot would make great videos. Also did Turbo ever come back? I can only remember him in one story.
Fleetway sonic is the whole reason i never got the chaos emeralds in the classic games on my 3ds. I was too scared to see super sonic kill tails in game or sonething, i cried reading the comics. I remember i couldn't finish reading it because i felt sick to my stomach, im pretty sure i threw it out -Fnf drama I can tell some of these are satire jokes, but it can be hard to tell. I advise you dont engange or respond to thede comments, it gives another reason for fnf to be dragged down.
I never did like storylines about “evil sides” or “controlling” anything, so the idea of Fleetway’s approach to Super deeply disturbed me. Then I read about a headcanon that Super was never Sonic to begin with, but in fact a demon that had possessed him deep in that ocean, a demon made out of chaos. That would make things much better for me were it not for the fact that the amnesia plot happened, further complicating things. Evil isn’t some quantifiable energy, separate from the idea of a person, and it should never be. But even with all of that being said I can’t deny how much this left an impression on people, myself included
From what I know or remember, this likely goes back to the Origins of Sonic and Dr. Kintobor where he states that he was going to use the Chaos Emeralds to rid of all Evil in the entire Planet. However, it was incomplete with both Sonic and Kintobor being exposed to Chaos Radiation, Robotnik was exposed to the Evil of the Chaos Emeralds due to the process not being complete, turning him into Dr. Robotnik. I personally believe that after Sonic gained more Radiation, it was not HIM and nor was Super Sonic a seperate entity at the time. This was due to the Chaos Energy corrupting him with the evil of the Planet but unlike Robotnik, this was only for a temporary amount of time. Robotnik and Kintobor are in fact the same as Super Sonic and Sonic, it's more of the Radiation changing their emotions and such. However if you remember in the Running Wild Arc, it was due to the Star Post removing all the Chaos Energy from Sonic, that was how it became a seperate entity. All the Chaos Energy thrown out of Sonic was nearly gone with Super Sonic being split and having it all for himself, imagine if Robotnik and Kintobor had to split.

Great point about the music. The more it plays the weirder it sounds sometimes haha
Thanks for confirming. I didn't know Tekno and Ebony make cameos, that's really cool. I'll have to check it out.
@@JohnnyVector Yep. I believe there was also a background cameo of Bob Beaky, which is... a whole different ball of confusion.
Thanks, you're right, pretty similar to Goku's gorilla form
funny enough when goku first achieves his super . he does warn gohan to leave because in his new form enhansing his rage he may even attack gohan his son, although he post battle returns to being kind and even attempts to spare the guy he fought
i guess people searched fleetway sonic so much after fnf sonic.exe v2 came out that this video got an algorithm boost
Seems that way. I can't complain.

No problem, glad I could help to introduce you to Fleetway Sonic
Here's an interesting bit of trivia actually, that further strengthens the connection between (Fleetway) Super Sonic and the initial Super Saiyan.
When Goku first transformed to Super Saiyan, his personality did shift to a bit more of a vicious and sadistic side. Goku essentially regressed back to the Kakarot that he was initially born to be, before he learned to control it.
Most underrated comment
It's important people know the truth
Imagine the storyline if Fleetway DIDN'T turn on Ebony. He would have become the best character, and he would still live his life normally.
I voice him and his story continues :)
Finally I know who Fleetway SS is,
I love him
I adored Sonic the Comic. I'm glad to have found this video. I'm going to see if I can find a collection of the comics online to read again as an adult.
This was such a great ark in the comics. Richard Elsons artwork really inspires the imagination !
Are u there yet
I always thought fleetway was some sort of ""corrupted"" sonic.
Because fleetway-to me- always sounded like a highway like in SA2
Maybe If the comic continued sonic would control the power and become the good super sonic seen in the games.

Hey fleetway sonic is in fnf vs sonic.exe cool right?
Fleetway's Super Sonic is interesting, but I think I prefer the version that Sonic X hinted at during the Metarex arc, dubbed Dark Sonic by fans. It makes more sense to me as a form separate from Super.
Thank you for this revisiting of a classic character. If you haven’t already, Captain Plunder and his crew were always an interesting time.
Sonic could already survive in Space
Actually yeah good point, he is in space quite a lot somehow.

Why not do an episode about Shortfuse or Captain Plunder? Or even better, Teckno?
Thanks for the suggestions. A lot of people suggested Fleetway Amy so I think I'll add a bit about Tekno in that video.
5:30 Ah yes my favorite pokemon, *hulk*
Hello I'm a casual fnf dude wanting to know about this Sick looking dude
This is incredible! the sonic comic makes me really want to read it. Thanks for the coverage on something I clearly overlooked.
The sonic fanbase will forever love evil Sonics
Especially Scourge the hedgehog?
I still think Fleetway is too far away from Sonic's original characteristics when it comes to Super Sonic. But the idea is still very interesting!
To me, this Fleetway Super Sonic could be what Sonic would become if he wasn't all clear in his head and lost to anger.
Imagine an even more broken Shadow. Dark Super Sonic from the Sonic X anime is probably the closest we get to Fleetway here.
Ah excellent video.I was waiting for this since the sonic iceberg when they were talking about super sonic being it’s own entity
Awesome, thank you
Super sonic in games: I save my friends from being killed
Super sonic in comics: i kill my friends
And it prevents people asking the question of "Seriously, the Master Emerald is right there, why don't you just turn into Super Sonic, blow the Death Egg of the sky, and have your girlfriend restored to flesh and blood by sunset?"
Also, he's just the best version of a superpowered evil side for Sonic himself. Darkspine is cool but really difficult to work in (what with being fuelled by less than half of a set of macguffins that only exist in a book), and Dark Super is just... boring.
powers gained from chaos manifesting like this makes WAY more sense.
Fleetway Sonic seems a lot closer to Ultimate Universe Hulk than the jade giant we actually care about.
Now that you mentioned sonic and dragon ball I never really thought about it but sonic counter part would be goku as the protagonist.Shadow as vegeta as the villain who becomes hero .Silver being the time traveler who would be trunks.
Which is a problem because Sega is self aware of this and is trying to make Shadow like Vegeta nowadays.
@@antyep Metals more of the vegeta anyways, shadows more like piccolo or Hit.
@@Fanatic_Foremem not unless you consider IDW canon where he was incredibly loyal to Eggman.
This is the single time in the entirety of the Sonic franchise that they Chaos Emeralds had any association with actual chaos whatsoever
I've read it like 8/10 months ago and while reading it I was so amazed and invested in the comic because it brings super sonic into a more dark tone :)
It suddenly makes sense for Super Sonic to be evil!
The Chaos Emeralds aren’t named that for nothing
Fleetway super sonic will forever be one of my favourite villains in the comics
Now I WISH they continued into the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle storyline! Imagine how EVIL Shadow would look if they went down that path still! It would be amazing to see
I never looked into the actual story behind evil super sonic, but the drawing design stood out to me as a really good design.
Good stuff!
Thanks, big fan of your stuff as well
S&K was the first appearance of the space and flight abilities.

Just discovered you already have, awesome!!!
Man that would’ve been a WAY better storyline in my opinion
Silver wants to desperately get rid of sonic to save his future due to fleetway nearly destroying the whole dimension, which would make sense considering silver might have seen the famous super sonic…but sonic and co would have to travel forward in time to realize the threat and learn how to prevent it……what have I written?
WHY DO I WANT TO WRITE MORE OF THIS
I think it's really interesting how Sonic Movie 2 almost seems to reference it for a split second!
11:51 Ooh, that page! I actually bought the original master of this at a Summer of Sonic convention, some years ago.
That's awesome. I love Super's innocent face in that one.
I used to read this comic so much when I was growing up! You could cover the Metallix. I remember what they looked like but not really what their deal was?
Great idea, thanks. I always loved Metallix as well.
I already knew about psycho super sonic but this still got recommended to me after playing the FNF mod
Edit: 2:23 That’s not entirely true. When Goku went super saiyan for the first time he was at a state of rage, even threatening to kill his own son. But the whole plot point of the transformation being unlocked by sheer rage was dropped pretty early.
True. I think Broly or the False Super Saiyan from Lord Slug are also apt comparison to this version as well.
It would be really cool if super was an "Superpowered evil side", would add an layer of caution or danger
Hope you cover Amy and Tails in both Fleetway and the games. 💖🧡
A few people have mentioned Fleetway Amy so that one is quite high on the to-do list.
There has to be a reason behind Sonic not losing control when turning into his super form. Maybe the ones who nourished Super Sonic could have changed his fate when they combined Super Sonic back with Sonic himself giving Sonic more control over his inner self.
Thanks for the cool facts about Fleetway Sonic I understand now since I didn’t understand what was going on in the FNF mod for VS Sonic.exe

Sonic and the gang should be glad that they didn't have to face hyper
Haha yeah, Fleetway Hyper Sonic would be pretty insane
Thx for the pin BTW
There was another's version of Super Sonic in STC. In an alternate Mobius, where Sonic is evil and the Robotnik figure for that world, the main Sonic pushes him so far that he stress out to become Super Sonic, which is nice and chill.
I thought fleetway was kind of simular to broly in the Z movie
Thought I would mention there was one instant where sonic goes crazy in Sonic X, which was Dark Sonic and that is the only time something similar to this happened.
Imagine Fleetway Hypersonic
I read sonic the comics growing up and I remember there was this one story line where sonic and maybe some of the freedom fighters went to a parallel universe and the sonic there was an evil dictator. The way they toppled him was by making the evil sonic turn into super sonic, who was 'mellow yellow' and wanted to be a kind ruler instead, suggesting the super transformation has a reverse moral alignment to the original.

-Fnf drama
I can tell some of these are satire jokes, but it can be hard to tell.
