I think it's biggest obstacle (besides price) is the fact that it's integrated into the Skully helmet. Helmets are a very personal item due to aesthetics and ergonomics. Not every head will fit into the Skully. Hopefully it catches on and some day sees integration with other helmet manufacturers or becomes a portable unit.
They are boxing customers in with a helmet style that they may not like. They should make this an applicable wireless device that mounts easily in your helmet of choice. Just the small display and a small electronics/battery housing that mounts on the helmet much like that of a Bluetooth device.
I think that'll work really well in fighter pilot helmets, which they need eyes on bogey's. The thing about HUD's are the distractions from traffic that can impede reaction time; basically, there's too much info to process.

I like the idea of being able to move the technology from helmet to helmet.
Sumi Das, where ya been girl? LOL I met you in Boca Raton with "Mr. Computer when you worked for ZDTV. Many, many moons ago. Glad to see your still producing great stuff.
20 something years riding, i don't ever feel like I am not aware of whats around me. there is no replacement for a lifesaver check, Also adjust or replace mirrors that your not confident give you adequate visibility. I could see a more projection onto the visor for basic nav from your phone being a muc better product. Alas if people buy them and it opens up a new market. options are always a good thing.
+Brian “Easty and the Wolf” Eastwood I honestly think you'd be better off keeping your phone in your backpack and studying a map of the area before you go riding through it. Or you could take your map/GPS gadget with you and pull over when you need to consult it... That helmet seems like it's overkill to the point of actually being a detriment _to_ you. It's another shiny object for the shiny object crowd, methinks.
+knupder Kind of what I thought. Rather invest in a helmet with extra weight reduction a low noise to reduce fatigue. Also riding can be a thing of nature. nothing like this to spoil the experience.
Really good idea, hope the price comes down, would like to see it tested in UK to see how it handles on bumpy country roads!, might be cheaper buying some smart glasses and sync bluetooth camera, not restricted to one type of helmet then?
Very good idea. I just hope that they can get the price to where most motorcyclists see it as affordable. I see so many people in my area that don't wear helmets. Maybe the cool tech will attract them to wearing one....or maybe not. Anyways, I hope this idea takes off.
Seems like a pretty great idea. I think I would have really liked this, although I stopped riding recently (Hello, Fatherhood.)The battery life doesn't strike me as a huge problem, because on a 9-hour ride, I think most of us would stop for an hour break (lunch or dinner most likely) and could almost always charge up with an outlet or a backup battery. Heck, even a small, easily swapped battery would work fine if they provided you with 2 of them. Nearly everyone stops long enough to do that, even on a long ride. But of course, a 9-hour battery would be great!
I'll pass. I don't want to be bother by phone calls and internet ads while I ride. A product like this would most definitely increase the amount of accidents.
Now it's $1,800. I find that reasonable, but I don't have a motorcycle. I have a lot of e-rideables and live in NYC. I prefer not to ride in the street, but if I do, I like the idea of this.
+TrustNothing lol. I think i like the Sena smart helmet better at $600-$800 anyway. That heads up display is cool but seems like you might lose your right eye if you wreck lol
That rear display just seems like information overload. Get rid of the rear camera and just integrate the HUD with the rider's cel phone and operate it through an app to display navigation and they would probably sell a lot more units at a much cheaper price point. Much better battery life as well. Making a kit to retrofit a rider's current helmet would probably be the best bet for them. Hmmm...
Mik S.V Actually you would not have any blind spot if you look both at the mirror and the side while changing lanes. Secondly, I think Wynkin de Worde is right, the virtual mirror is little bit distracting, you might not see any object coming towards you if you are too busy with that thing.
knupder i always check and that's why it's called a blind spot cuz you can't see it and if you keep looking back for a few secs you can crash, at least in my country where the taxi and bus drivers are morons that stop in the middle of the streets or forbidden places and nobody uses the lights to change lanes or turn on corners, that's why i think this is a good idea (the rearview not the bluetooth ..)
Awesome! I'm in the market for a new helmet this year anyways! Crossing my fingers it's under a grand...hopefully it will Atleast price compete with the high end helmets! Or the current mirror helmets
whoaaa the price?! wtf? its cool tech, but I'm happy to wait. Skully would be foolish to think Arai AGV and Shoei R&D haven't got top secret prototypes ready to unleash into production.
Wow that such a clever idea!! It's almost like having a mirror right in front of you! So much better than having 2! Not distracting at all either I imagine having a voice controlled computer to play with rather than actually riding. So much better having 1 perception than binocular vision to allow depth perception! I mean who need to know how far away stuff is?!? Cheap too, much cheaper than turning your head and looking at exactly what's going on with your own 2 eyes. Ffs!!!
I have always wondered if someone would come up with an idea like this. The HUD aside, the helmet itself looks pretty sharp. I can definitely go without the tacky awful looking graphics when I buy a helmet. The matte black looks awesome with the shield tinted. I can't wait to get my hands on one when they release. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
think about it...the price don't need to be that high if they are going to be selling like hotcakes ***sort-of-speak***..it's all about supply and demand, if you sell a ton of them... that right there alone can branch out to be 5 tons within a week if you are offering everything (including) a inexpensive price..the more reasonable the price the more people will recommend the helmet to riders.
I agree, I think the camera is a bit overkill, mirrors cost $20 and work just as well, Bluetooth headset $200 helmet $200, I have the same safety except I'll have $1,100 left over to blow for mods or a trip..
Skully hasn't even annouced a price, $3000 was something that cnet said would be a high price. it won't be out for sale for awhile, spring is when the beta testers are going to be able to use it
It would be more economical to buy a Reevu MSX1 and google glass. That way if you get into a crash, you can take the electronics with you. Owning a skully would be more like carrying around a fabergé egg down a bumpy gravely road. Helmets are typically done after a three foot drop.
Scotty, the Reevu has rear view. That's the whole gimmick with those. It's more of a periscope and mirrors kind of deal though. Ideally, I imagine a digital rear camera system would work like my brother's BMW where it has little computer generated lines displayed on the screen that detect distance from objects as you back up to park.......But not sure how a bike can pull that off without the same sensors.
Don't drive distracted, a HUD by law in California is driving distracted, they can ticket you for this. If you can't drive with google glass then no exception for this
A high quality helmet is $500. So I could see this going for like $800 if the helmet itself is of high quality. They would sell like 12 of them at a $3000 price tag. they would sell out over night at a $800 price tag. But if I was them I would sell at $1200 for the first month or so, then drop to $800.
You'll still need need to look next to you before you change lanes. The only benefit is that you can see what's behind you directly. Installing a camera above your license plate and having a display on your handlebars is waaaaaay cheaper. Overpriced helmet if you ask me.
I don't know, after I saw the way they implemented the screen it seems even more dangerous now. If I get to have an accident, I might rip my eye out with that thing
There's not enough air vents to cool your head. It's not practical in hot weather. Cost is going to be a problem. Safety aside, the helmet needs some aggressive graphics since most bikers out there loves their graphics on their helmet.
Mark Anthony You're not a realist. You're a cut-throat troll, trying to damage a reputation while advertising on another's sites. Better watch out for Karma. It can be nasty.
michelle long So far I cannot find any type of safety rating for this helmet, for all these people may know they could be purchasing a NON DOT certified Helmet, wouldn't that suck.
amazing i would definitely buy one but i would NOT pay in the thousand area for a helmet more like £100 - £300 if some how they do get the ability to put this product at this range they'll need alot of materials to make more haha, should move towards using the same tech to show the speed of the car on the corvette and some BMW's with better quality possibly more a budget and less complaints about having to look at the bottom, right to see.

What if the rider has a crash and that cube within the helmet penetrates into the eye of the rider?
Then you'd replace your eye with a cube that displays a heads up display!!! Ain't that cool? You'd be the first person with a cube for an eye lol
I think that'll work really well in fighter pilot helmets, which they need eyes on bogey's. The thing about HUD's are the distractions from traffic that can impede reaction time; basically, there's too much info to process.
I like the idea of being able to move the technology from helmet to helmet.

people that ride with a passenger all the time must crave this,
They also need to develop a wireless camera unit for when carrying a pillion. Mounted on rear of bike.
3000$!? Just because it had a camera and gps on it? My phones has two cameras on it with gps and it doesn't cost nearly as much
I’m guessing that’s how much to cost to make it? It’s kinda stupid.
Your just driving and then a bluescreen pops up...
"Head display has crashed unexpectedly"...3 seconds later "Bike has crashed unexpectedly..please reboot".
Rron Elezi hahah
Really good idea, hope the price comes down, would like to see it tested in UK to see how it handles on bumpy country roads!, might be cheaper buying some smart glasses and sync bluetooth camera, not restricted to one type of helmet then?
A good price point would be locally around 450 USD especially since the helmet is only DOT approved.
Now that is something for the next years gift list
That is so COOL!
I wish I could hear more from people who actually own this helmet.
Very good idea. I just hope that they can get the price to where most motorcyclists see it as affordable. I see so many people in my area that don't wear helmets. Maybe the cool tech will attract them to wearing one....or maybe not.
Anyways, I hope this idea takes off.
That's fine.
That's fine.
Mark Anthony you talk too damn much in this video i doubt you are an expert in the product agree to disagree like everyone else
twentie bucks He's pushing his product, at the expense of this product. VERY low class.
Mark Anthony It is a product in development. But more importantly, word-smithing doesn't change the fact that you're being unethical and immoral.
Great idea and execution, but that price tag will be their downfall.
I could see a revolution in design n help with traffic pains
Please make a helmet with Bluetooth handsfree, Pivothead camera, and skully features all in one.
Ya'll take food stamps??
yes
I've wanted this since I read Xenon: Heavy Metal Warrior back in '87.
I'll be happy to test one for them.
Looks like I'll be building my own...
Wow amazing product. But yea $3000 is a lot! Find a way to make it an ad on for any helmet.
Its now $1,400
UberTech I think currently it is $950, (Price was on the kickstarter thing)
Xenophene01 Bah the technology is over 30 years old, get with the program Xeno.
They can keep the rearview camera. I don't want to see where I've already been. I just want to look cool getting to where I'm going.
What if someone is behind you? I mean a rear passenger!!!
Akhil G
Do a hard turn and knock them off the motorcycle!!
Remember when this was still a thing?
The SKULLY logo ruins it for me...
imagine coming off your bike at 70mph with a glass filled object inches away from the eye... i think helmet regs will have a field day...
Wonder if that rear view cam will replace the need for mirrors some day.
Great application of the technology, a definite buy to damn the price too high
They need to get the price under $1000
+TrustNothing
lol. I think i like the Sena smart helmet better at $600-$800 anyway. That heads up display is cool but seems like you might lose your right eye if you wreck lol

A rear view mirror or two is far cheaper and less distracting.
Wynkin de Worde they have blind spots just like cars, and in a bike that's pretty dangerous, at least for me when i'm swapping lanes ..
You pays your money and takes your choice.
Mik S.V Actually you would not have any blind spot if you look both at the mirror and the side while changing lanes. Secondly, I think Wynkin de Worde is right, the virtual mirror is little bit distracting, you might not see any object coming towards you if you are too busy with that thing.
+Mik S.V
Why are you changing lanes without checking your blind spots?
knupder i always check and that's why it's called a blind spot cuz you can't see it and if you keep looking back for a few secs you can crash, at least in my country where the taxi and bus drivers are morons that stop in the middle of the streets or forbidden places and nobody uses the lights to change lanes or turn on corners, that's why i think this is a good idea (the rearview not the bluetooth ..)

I dont want to buy a $3000 helmet but I love to buy the $750 NUVIZ. same features, no rear cam.
$3000.00!???????? Uh No. I like the concept as a motorcyclist myself, but 3K is a bit steep. Gotta fix that price point SKULLY.
Wow that such a clever idea!! It's almost like having a mirror right in front of you! So much better than having 2!
Not distracting at all either I imagine having a voice controlled computer to play with rather than actually riding.

Cheap too, much cheaper than turning your head and looking at exactly what's going on with your own 2 eyes.
Ffs!!!
Does it have a speedometer built in so I don't have to look down as much?
I have always wondered if someone would come up with an idea like this. The HUD aside, the helmet itself looks pretty sharp. I can definitely go without the tacky awful looking graphics when I buy a helmet. The matte black looks awesome with the shield tinted. I can't wait to get my hands on one when they release. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
When it expires what will you do?? Get a nother shell or new helmet?
This isolates the rider from the machine by thinking for them. If I wanted that experience, I'd drive a car.
Every bikers dream, hope the price is right
think about it...the price don't need to be that high if they are going to be selling like hotcakes ***sort-of-speak***..it's all about supply and demand, if you sell a ton of them... that right there alone can branch out to be 5 tons within a week if you are offering everything (including) a inexpensive price..the more reasonable the price the more people will recommend the helmet to riders.

It would be more economical to buy a Reevu MSX1 and google glass. That way if you get into a crash, you can take the electronics with you. Owning a skully would be more like carrying around a fabergé egg down a bumpy gravely road. Helmets are typically done after a three foot drop.

Great product, but the price sucks..
Only if you're poor.
I kinda am bro.. lol
Looks like an ls2 helmet... Wouldn't be surprised if they are the manufacturer.
So when can I get one
ill rather have two side mirrors on each side -__-
nice concept but this is too much for its price
Don't drive distracted, a HUD by law in California is driving distracted, they can ticket you for this.
If you can't drive with google glass then no exception for this
I would pay 3 grand for my wife to be as safe as possible on her motorcylce. And heck I want one too!!!
I want it!!
I like this. Two times.
The company just folded. RIP 1500$
A helmet that costs a third (or a quarter) of your motorcycle, nice.
A high quality helmet is $500. So I could see this going for like $800 if the helmet itself is of high quality. They would sell like 12 of them at a $3000 price tag. they would sell out over night at a $800 price tag. But if I was them I would sell at $1200 for the first month or so, then drop to $800.
Is they make a bicycle helmet like that, it would be awesome. But it woul be pretty hard through considering the weight and th shape
Lol or you know, just look at your mirrors and do a shoulder check.
You'll still need need to look next to you before you change lanes. The only benefit is that you can see what's behind you directly. Installing a camera above your license plate and having a display on your handlebars is waaaaaay cheaper. Overpriced helmet if you ask me.
cuando llega a Lima-Perú y precios porfavor
As several years fly by, the cost of this helmet would be a lot lower.
where can i get one, i really need it
I don't know, after I saw the way they implemented the screen it seems even more dangerous now. If I get to have an accident, I might rip my eye out with that thing
What about dead spot?
Durable?
There's not enough air vents to cool your head. It's not practical in hot weather. Cost is going to be a problem. Safety aside, the helmet needs some aggressive graphics since most bikers out there loves their graphics on their helmet.
they are not $3000 you can buy one (pre-order as of now) for $1500
sparky1570784 Still way over priced for the very old technology
agreed
but i need it.
The price is just ridiculous 3,000 no wonder I never seen those helmet on the road
What if somebody steals it
2008 cbr600rr FTW.
i need this
Sick very back to the future type inventation kind high on the price still
This is nothing like Google Glass... this could be useful.
has the price gone down ?
+Green Goblin Yes, $1500 now.
Those riders who don't wear a helmet have a sign which reads, "I am an IDIOT."
How about make it a solar powered helmet?
Chaseontwowheels should get this
Mark Anthony Your negativity is exactly what the naysayers say about everything being developed.

Mark Anthony "Couple of years?!?!" What do you say now?! lol
Mark Anthony You must be related to Joseph Biden. He also laughs rather than produce a statement of substance.
$3000 is a lot... for the most i paid was 550$ us dollars but that's the highest i would say.
I like how they used the older 600rr because the new one is ugly as shit.
They already made it
guy walks into bank
>Hello sir, how can we help you today?
>Yes, I wanted to get a loan to purchase a motorcycle helmet!
lol
is this made with carbon fiber?
michelle long So far I cannot find any type of safety rating for this helmet, for all these people may know they could be purchasing a NON DOT certified Helmet, wouldn't that suck.
this helmet would be super hot, and for $3000? I'll stay with my Arai
What happens when the Helmet needs to be replaced after 5 years ? can the Tech be taken out and swapped to another Helmet ?!
Check this out "Reevu MSX1" no batteries or display needed.
amazing i would definitely buy one but i would NOT pay in the thousand area for a helmet more like £100 - £300 if some how they do get the ability to put this product at this range they'll need alot of materials to make more haha, should move towards using the same tech to show the speed of the car on the corvette and some BMW's with better quality possibly more a budget and less complaints about having to look at the bottom, right to see.
I'll pay $5,000 for that can't wait
Looks like it does not have many vents for airflow. Am I wrong? I sure hope so.
it has, i have it :) u can open and close the vents when u want to
Sweet thanks for the info! Might hope on the bike and ride 2 hours to the closest place that carries them to check it out now.
Richard Golias Do they exist in the store? :O i ordered mine and got it 5 months later haha
+3PGclan™ The Sniping Family a place in Columbus Ohio claims to have them.
Richard Golias whuut, i got scammed
$3000 will never sell.
So it's have camera in front too? Or only back camera? Cause seems, like it have also inside with that navi + back camera.
I like it
people put a price on safety all the time and when it comes to motorcycle helmets the price is around 200 to 500 bucks.
my bike is only like 4000... if you low side or something you might see yourself paying more for a new helmet than bike repairs
