    RPHA 70 comes with a sun visor and emergency release. Also has better ventilation. I got this instead of the GT Air cause it also fit better on my head. I am very happy with it and saved 150 euros as well! The GT Air was something like 450 euros here!

    I have the Icon Variant Thriller and the Bell Vortex & RS1(down a rung and up one) I agree completely with the Variant being surprisingly good on the freeway and flowing good amounts of air, plus it goes on sale often ($150 for Thriller!). The Bells are very comfortable and the RS1 isn't very loud, but the Vortex is the loudest helmet I've ever owned (out of 10~ish). Can't wait to try an RHPA 10 or 11!

    Had an RPHA 10 Plus (Pro in the USA) previously. A superbly awesome helmet, even though it didn't fit my head shape 100%. Excellent quality, light, snug, works with you and you don't even feel like you're wearing a helmet. I can't comment on buffeting as I was on a naked bike at the time, but even then, get into a tuck and you immediately know that this is what it was made for. Had a Shoei X-Spirit 2 and now have a Bell Star Carbon. While these are great helmets, the RPHA 10+ brings something different to the table and for a lot less. I know many people look down on HJC as being a cheap brand but the only thing cheap about them are their prices. They have a diverse range of helmets at different price points, and are really worth a look at.

  • @dsp4392

    Great comprehensive review. Research has shown that a helmet's price doesn't correlate with protection, so I bought the Qualifier two years ago and couldn't be happier. It's definitely loud, but the rest is, as mentioned, excellent. As a side note, the shield mechanism is loud and rough in the beginning, but it gets _much_ smoother over time (without becoming loose). Mine is very easy to operate one handed, and has nice, clean, positive feedback. I compared it with a worn-in, entry level HJC and the Bell's feels significantly higher quality.

      I also own a qualifier, and mine is ECE rated. there seems to be a mixup on which qualifiers are DOT or ECE rated. wind noise: very high, high enough to cause ringing after a freeway run especially from the small vents in the back, which would cause a whistle, so I silicone glued them closed, which cut a decent amount of noise. the shield was very loud at first as well, but mine also quieted down. the chin-bar vent does very little to prevent fogging. I seem to have an issue with fitting helmets for going full-tuck, so I'm limited there, but theoretically the helmet does fine, better when I wear my alpinestars leather jacket that has a low cut collar. comfort is great, and the top vents are very good for the summer.

  • @Siper2

    Great review! I've not heard of the Qualifier, but the Bell Vortex is pretty similar by the looks of things. That's the one I own, in the Flack blue color. Great helmet, but also extremely loud. Unnecessarily so. Can't ride without earplugs. Besides that, the feature set-for-price ratio is why I bought it.

    I'm a new rider, just got my license today! When I bought my helmet, I had one picked out from doing research online. Reality hit when I went into the store and tried it on. It felt terrible when I wore it. I ended up with an Arai XD4, not because I plan on doing adventure riding, but because it was the one that fit me well. I wear an xxl, so maybe that had something to do with the difficulty I had in finding a comfortable helmet.

    I tried an HJC many years ago. It was a nice helmet, but caused a wicked hot spot on my forehead after an hour or so of riding. Shoeis never did that, and I've bought them for decades for their quiet and comfort. Wait until the end of the season clearance sales and they get reasonably priced too.
    FTR, I've crashed and ruined a Shoei and an Arai and neither one of those accidents caused me any head injury whatsoever. The rest of me is another story...
    One thing that would have been interesting is a review of the peripheral vision. Shoei recently revised some of their lids to improve that aspect.

    • @RideByNight
      @RideByNight 8 лет назад +1

      I like SHARP but 1) They only test UK-version helmets and 2) They do their testing based on UK crash stats which are quite a bit different than US crash stats. I check their site now and then but I never know if the Shoei sold in the US is the same exact lid as the Shoei sold in the UK. Maybe this is the wrong way to think about it but that's what I wonder about.

    May I suggest a review video that involves best/top helmet mods, or top safety mods for riding? The product that made me think of the suggestion is helmet lights, specifically the light kit from LightMode. Not only does it look neat but helmet lights drastically improve visibility for a rider at night, and so I think helmet lights would be a good addition to a video about safety or helmet mods.

    Hey @FortNine I was just wondering, are there any BT integrated full faced helmets that you would recommend? I'm not sure of how many there are in the market nor which brands are of good quality. The only one I've heard of so far has been the BiLT, but with a lot of negative debates online. I love listening to music while I'm out riding, knowing the Sena is probably the best way to go in the meantime, I just wanted to here your thoughts on the available BT integrated helmets in the market right now. Thanks!!!

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  8 лет назад +1

      I'm not a huge fan of bluetooth-integrated helmets ... they try to do two jobs and don't fully succeed at either. My preference is to put an aftermarket system on an already-awesome helmet. As you'll see in my video of comm systems, I favour Cardo over Sena (ruclips.net/video/D3SvaIKAUNY/видео.html). The most *seamless* system is Schuberth's neck roll comm. It's almost like a BT-integrated helmet. But *very* expensive. ~RyanF9

    I currently wear a K3 SV, nice helmet but after a year it became extremely loud! and since I have it with a tinted visor I never really used the sun visor LOL.
    Do you think the RPHA10 would be a decent upgrade from the K3 in terms of sound isolation? and also having in mind that Schuberts are expensive as hell down here in Chile. I ride a GSR-750 btw (I think its called GSX-S750 in the US)

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  8 лет назад

      The RPHA 10 isn't especially quiet. How much do Shoei RF-1200s go for in Chile? That's a great sport helmet, which would also be an improvement in sound insulation. ~RyanF9

    • @RGimeldo
      @RGimeldo 8 лет назад

      RF1200 is a little bit more expensive than a Dainese Avro D1 jacket. (?)
      However, a SHOEI GT-Air TC-2 would cost me around the same as the RPHA 10 sent from the US (none in local dealers)

    • @JoseSierradeLeste
      @JoseSierradeLeste 7 лет назад

      RGimeldo I have both lids, wore the k3 sv for a long time and switched to the rpha 10 because it's a damn good deal. I loved my k3 and agree that the sun visor is a waste of time and weight, and the rpha 10 is an upgrade in nearly every single way but it is not a quiet helmet by any stretch of the imagination. Definitely as loud or possibly louder than my old k3sv. Still, it's a much nicer helmet overall than the k3, except maybe for head mobility; I find the k3 to be a very mobile/agile shape with the hawksbill and shoulder cutouts.
      Quiet(er) options definitely include the rf1200 but you're going to be stepping up in price profile to the $400 range to get effective sound reduction. Schuberth helmets are also typically very quiet, though again you're looking at bumping up in price. That being said the rf1200 is a really comfortable, downright plush lid that is quiet and fits great. You're definitely getting what you pay for in that helmet, very much worth considering. YMMV of course, and I encourage you to try before you buy, but I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

    • @Quinnjamin2020
      @Quinnjamin2020 7 лет назад +1

      I am currently looking at the K3 SV to purchase next. I really like the drop down sun visor but most important things to me are quietness and aerodynamic at higher speeds. I live in Texas and commute a lot at 75+mph. Cheap helmets make me deaf and a bobble head on the highway for an hour while i commute, it is annoying. Would ANYONE have a suggestion for a good helmet for me? trying to stay under $250.

    • @JoseSierradeLeste
      @JoseSierradeLeste 7 лет назад +1

      Quinn Nickerson I really liked my k3 sv. I wear an XL and typically need solid aero to reduce fatigue and I hate loud helmets. The k3 is actually pretty quiet and relatively light, with really nice aero, at the right price. Great head mobility too. Very comfortable, though once broken in I felt like the XL was too big - I had plenty of room around the cheek pads. Not a deal breaker just something to keep in mind. My only gripe was the sun visor. After a month you'll rarely use it and it's just extra weight and limits the ventilation in the helmet. Personally I'll never buy another sun visor helmet again but ymmv. Good luck with your search!

    I recently bought a brand new KTM Superduke. It has little wind protection and I do a lot of highway riding. What's the best helmet for my application? Quiet and won't catch too much wind/cuts the wind. Money isn't an object.
    Thanks
    Nathan

      Hi Nathan! Check out the Arai Defiant (fortnine.ca/en/arai-defiant-solid-helmet). It was specially designed for naked bikes, so it's quiet, doesn't catch the wind and is very stable. Arai actually made the lower lip heavy on purpose, so the centre of gravity is lower. Sounds weird, I know, but the weight is worth it. Definitely my favourite bucket for fairing-less motorcycles. It also comes in the Pro-Cruise version (fortnine.ca/en/arai-defiant-pro-cruise-helmet) which gets you an external drop-down sun visor. Whether that's worth $150 to you or not, I can't say! ~RyanF9

      FortNine You are so incredibly insightful, and cute. Do you know anything about the Reevu MSX1? The rear view mirror is so enticing when everyone driving a car has to be on Facebook. From the view point of a naked bike of course. (still in topic)

    I've never claimed to be an expert when it comes to gear, but the Shoei RF-1200 is the direct competetor to the RPHA. Not the GT-Air. But I'm guessing you knew this so that begs the question, why?

    I just bought a kabuto airoblade3. It was the ONLY helmet that didnt hurt my ears, and i could put my glasses on AND its pretty quiet.
    Light as a feather too. Feels MUCH lighter than the AGV K3 sv its replacing and sooo much lighter than my hjc max2 modular its not funny.
    I looked at the bell qualifier. It was $200 (im in 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍🏿👍🏿) . I got my kabuto for $199 on special (retails for 430). For that i got a helmet that actually fit properly, has the snell cert AND ece AND austnz certification. So basically twice the helmet for the same money. And (can you believe this?) its the only green helmet i could find . It matches my kawasaki almost perfectly. Funny theyre THE green machine but noone makes helmets to fit that ethos....
    Btw the venting is excellent. It blows a gale inside. Far superior to the agv and the hjc well...ive seen it said the venting on that is outstanding...compared to what? My 1985 Arai Racevent had better ventilation. Its pathetic. Nope gotta flip the lid or crack the visor.
    I get no air at all flowing thru it. Its ok tho i ony wear if to commute if i decide to ride. Its not my go to for weekend blasts.mthsts what the kabuto is for.
    Love ya work mate. Keep it up. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

    Hey Ryan - Great review! I recently subscribed to your channel and have not been disappointed. I appreciate the comparison of the HJC RPHA 10 to the Shoei GT-Air, but I am curious how you think the RPHA 10 will compare to the Shoei RF-1200. I recently purchased the RF-1200 and have not been disappointed; however, I am looking for a comparable second helmet. Stay Safe.

      I know, right? I use a Speed R Avenger and it is amazing. Cost me $400 3 years ago. The title of the video is misleading, I feel. Quality generally costs money, and though they are somewhat over priced due to the name, Arai, Shark, Shoei, and Shubarth make some of the best helmets in the business. To not have any of their offerings on here is disingenuous.

    There is a reason HJC is cheaper compared to Japan made brand , I own an Rpha Max Evo , in less than 3 years , 60k km I ride all year around and live in the tropics , the visor has shown fine cracks , rapid fire system broke on weekly visor removal basis. Compared this with my Multitec which I owned for 5 years , has no such issues. Same torture , no compromise

    Deff need to check out the AGV X-8- Evo Naked, very comfortable helmet, great air flow (needed a good air flow helmet since I live in Las Vegas and well it can get pretty hot), overall I give it a 10 out of 10. I use my Blue tooth J birds with this helmet and they fit perfectly inside the helmet in one or both of my ears, but I usually just have one ear bud in. It is also a very good looking helmet in my opinion, and it cost 370 with SSL (Super Super Light) carbon, Kevlar and fiberglass shell construction, and 499 for the Carbon Fiber. Check it out

Even my 4 yo nolan has more star rating. Until i see more reviews about how protective the 11 is at crashes, i wont do the purchase. Gotta keep my head safe :D

  • @danielerickson5195

    Snell won't even look at a helmet with an internal sun visor because it is assumed that there is a lack of structural integrity from the cavity. Shoei combats this by shoring up the gt-air in the visor compartment region. If snell were to take a look at it, it would likely pass. The same is true for modular helmets, which is why you'll never see a snell rated modular or drop down sun visor helmet. It doesn't mean the manufacturer hasn't taken steps to ensure that the helmet is just as safe.

    Also the GT Air, and RPHA 10 are not in the same category. The shoei can not be snell rated with the drop down visor, and the RPHA 10 is more of a race helmet. More in the category of the RF1200 or X-Twelve. I've owned a GT Air as well its a pretty damn good helmet though.

    Watts up, Ryan?! Sub here with a quick but long question. Ive seen full face, modular, quiet, safest under $200 etc (all of them). If I were to commute 70% tour 25% and lightly go off road 5% and have a Honda nc700x, sit upright most of my ride, 3/4 some and look for all the qualities of all your vids like safety, quiet, full face only, comfort (fitment intermediate oval, wind movement in upright mostly position, etc) except I have up to $500 to invest in keeping my noggin intact and unscrambled. What would my vid items consist of then? I've been looking at so many that I'm getting buyers remorse and haven't bought a thing yet! I love your vlogs and your info is top notch! Thanks for any help

    • @FortNine

      I'd put a Shoei Qwest on your head first. It really is an amazing bucket. Super quiet, super safe and very "light" feeling. I'd have no problem off-roading in the Qwest because it breathes so well from the inside. Not stuffy at all. For a cheaper option you might try the Scorpion EXO-R710 (it offers insane value for money). Also the Icon Alliance GT would be work a look. It's surprisingly quiet and has the drop-down sun visor, which is a nice luxury for people who ride often. I've just spent the week riding in one and I love it. The fit is *very* precise for intermediate heads like mine. I wouldn't go modular if I were you. But if I had to, it'd be the HJC RPHA-MAX. At this point it's worth reiterating how good that Shoei Qwest is. Definitely look there first. Cheers! ~RyanF9
