    I’ve been saying this a lot, but “The wrong way to put out a fire” is honestly a perfect way of looking at what Endeavor did to Touya. Endeavor sparked the fire, and instead of giving it calm and gentle water or something to put it out, he basically poured gasoline and paint thinner on it, and then proceeded to ignore the fire and let it build, not realizing that he was not only the root of the problem but also the main one making it worse.
    And by the time he did realize it, it’s all just too little too late.

    And now you know, how Endeavor’s ever consuming obsession combined with frustration of not knowing what to do led to him become the person we met at the start of the story.
    A very human and complicated situation. Horikoshi’s best writing.

    I hate that the war has gotten so bad that the whole family (plus Hawks and BJ) have to get together to support Endeavor. I get that he's doing his best to make things right, but this is the first time we've seen him cry over the past, while his whole family has been living with that trauma this entire time. He only made things worse for them, but now they have to be there to support him so Japan doesn't fall apart. I get that it's necessary, but I hate that they have to do it. If you ask me Endeavor doesn't deserve their support.
    I'm btw so proud of Rei. The way she walks in and takes responsibility for her actions. Even the fact that she faced her abuser (after all these years) despite just learning that their son is alive and has killed people. And she remained strong the entire time. What a badass🙏🏻

    Imagine a 13 year old child saying things like this to their parents - "You'll be glad that I was born" or in the manga version - "You'll realize that I wasn't a mistake"… Pathetic and depressing. This episode demonized Endeavor for me even more.

      The problem is when you're a first child. You don't exactly know how to treat them because they're your Experiment. So making mistakes is pretty common especially when you have one. But it is evident that these mistakes just keeps growing more and more as the family keeps increasing. Toya is heavily misguided and whilst their parents are neglecting to him, he should receive the love that he needs and help to overcome his feelings

      His absolutely HORRENDOUS emotional control lead to all of this. Touya is the golden child. Not Shoto. Shoto was the mask that it wasn’t all for nothing. It’s SO messed up. This doesn’t absolve Endeavor but it does logically explain his actions. And at the end of the day, only a victim can forgive an abuser. And based on the story, I think the Todoroki’s are going to bring him back into the family. Rei’s flower I interpreted as “Let’s start over.” Not with the whole family but her specifically.
      Shoto has been working towards accepting the Endeavor who TRIES to empathize and lets himself BE vulnerable. Which is what he needed all along. And while Natsuo is the MOST resentful, I don’t foresee him letting that ending up complete disconnect with Endeavor.

    • @o0Evo0o
      @o0Evo0o Год назад +1

      I think the idea was if Touya was faced with someone who outclassed him as thoroughly as All Might did Endeavor, he'd give up like Enji did. Of course there's a lack of self awareness there, because Enji didn't REALLY give up, he just made a radical shift in tactics (I can't beat All Might? Fine, I'll make a kid who can beat All Might)
      What he's actually doing is running from the problem- he can't stop Touya and hates the helplessness that comes with that, so he pivots to a different goal which he can at least do SOMETHING about

    I really like how fire is such a passionate element and it's portrayed so well with Endeavor, and Dabi and how too much passion can be a bad thing. Endeavor initially tried to do the right thing but his obsessive passion (or ambition is more like it) to surpass All Might always ended up overshadowing any good thing he tried to do, Dabi also has stronger flames than Endeavor and is shown to have more of a obsessive passion to the point where it literally drives him insane.

    Endeavor is hated so much for the shit he put his family through, but before he became the person we first meet him as we see that despite his wrong doings, at one point there was a man there who genuinely cared deeply for his family. When he found out Toya was being hurt by his own quirk, he tried to stop him from ever using it again. Granted, that only made the problem worse, but it’s nice to see how he would have preferred Toya live a healthy and safe life rather than push him to become the number one hero at the risk of killing him in the process.

  • @leethas
    @leethas Год назад +35

    One thing you might've missed- Endeavor's decision to focus so much on Shoto was because he was hoping that showing Toya that Shoto was "better" would convince Toya to give up on trying to become the top hero.
    Endeavor's descent into this madness wasn't solely because of his ambition, it was also because he saw it as something that might save Toya from the self-destructive path he was going down.

      Yeah. I think the piece people miss is that Enji and Touya probably had the strongest bond/love in that family. But Enji’s ambition was almost like a drug. Like an addiction that poisoned his relationships. That he couldn’t shake even for the sake of his family.
      He was aware of it though. Frustrated by it and afraid of it-looking at Touya, the way he burned himself out of a desperate desire to prove himself… it was looking into a mirror. Even if the damage wasn’t physical for Enji, he was “burning” himself metaphorically by being unable to let go of this desperate need to be the best. (There’s reason for that too, trauma that will come to light later).
      But really how do you tell a kid “hey Billy stop smoking it’s terrible for you” if you’re ripping through two packs a day nonstop?
      How do you say “there’s more to life than hero work” to a kid who has been following in your footsteps like a duckling all his life, believing your path to be his birthright, who knows you better than anyone else and KNOWS you’re being a hypocrite by trying to set him on any alternative path…
      Touya manifested all of Enji’s worst qualities and reflected them right back in his face.

He didn't do that. Endeavor just pushed Touya to the side and kept on having more kids.

By the definition of "talking", it means, Endeavor should've given more time to Touya instead of chasing his selfish dreams and having more kids. @@F4Jd Yeah and that's why I said Endeavor should've taken him to a psychiatrist or something when he noticed Touya wasn't listening to him, instead of wasting time of having more kids. Endeavor should have given him more time. Once it was proved that Touya was a failed experiment, Endeavor went on having more kids while Touya kept on training to prove his worth as a child to his father. By saying - "oh, please, stop" - wouldn't work. Touya is a smart kid. He knew the reason he was born wasn't because Endeavor wanted family or kids - he was born to surpass All Might. This isn't just about Touya wanting to get back his dad's love, time, and attention. This is a matter of his whole existence as a human being; the reason of his birth.
      You're saying Endeavor asked him to stop. Now I ask you - Why didn't Endeavor stop? The doctor told him that manufacturing kids like this is taboo. Rei warned him not to be cruel to Touya like this. But did Endeavor listen? NO.

    BLUE LOCK

  • @johnblake255
    @johnblake255 Год назад

    Offering another perspective, it seemed like the point of this was to show that it wasn’t Toyas dream (like say Deku), it was his obsession. Because there’s something mentally wrong with Toya, what started out as his dream became his obsession and his family’s negligence or incompetence (like Endeavor thinking that having Shoto would break Toyas obsession) just caused it to deteriorate further. It’s also an easy argument that Endeavor actually cared more for Toya than any other kid (as is common in Asian families to favor the oldest son) which is why he pushed Shoto to be away and train, since Endeavor convinced himself that Shotos success would save Toya. This is further indicated when Endeavor turned abusive towards Rei cus Toya hurt himself again and she didn’t stop him. You could argue that the irony is Endeavor cared more for Toya than anyone else but how he went about it just contributed that much more to the ruination of his family further.

    The whole situation was much ambiguous than I expected, maybe it's another thing they've dramatically toned down from the manga. Rei is certainly a much less sympathetic character now, making Shoto even more of a saint for being able to forgive her. Hell, now I even feel like Endeavor was justified in having her committed.

      @@maniac7452 You did not understand me. I meant that Shota also had such a problem, his father did not spare him and he received serious burns from his mother and a trace of trauma for life, he saw real cruelty and was able to get out of it thanks to Midoriya. Shoto never wanted to make friends because that student from Shiketsu (I don't remember his name, but he had a quirk to control the wind) hated Shota for being cold to everyone and having the same ferocious look as the Endeavor. It’s just that Shoto is lucky that Midoriya is the one who gets into the problems of others, if he wasn’t there, then Shoto would become like Dabi. So they both had a similar situation and they themselves are to blame for not looking for friends. Because of this, one was left alone, the other was able to get out of the hole
