    I’m a teen with social anxiety and like 2 seconds ago I was in an elevator with a bunch of boys my age . They were nice and we had a brief interaction and then I exited the elevator but still I think I’m having a panic attack over it . This couldn’t have come at a better time

    A lot of people assume I’m weak and not goal oriented because I have an anxiety disorder or they either perceive it as me looking for attention especially the people from older generations in my family. Things have gotten better and I’ve slowly learned not to care about people’s negativity towards me because I’m black, gay, vegan, anxiety medicated, and closeted so I’m going to need to be able to not internalize others words because it’ll be an endless cycle of hate because of who I am.

    I think the vast majority of people have healthy level of anxiety. We all know how to avoid big problems. But when someone say they have anxiety, they mean the unhealthy level. it is bad not good. imagine the people who would never climb a mountain or hike in a forest just to be 100% safe, or those who will avoid war at all costs not to die.
    But any way, this video may help those who have unhealthy anxieties understand it as an adaptive way and feel less anxious about it. as Dr Ana already said.

    I struggle in this a lot. This day I was productive compare to my normal days but even when I’m being productive, while doing some things, my mind keeps remembering or keeps imagining things will fall apart. It is hell. But somehow I’m trying to adapt a habit and do a bullet journal so that I will only gonna see my progress everyday cause I also had depression before so it’s hard for me to do even self care or self love

    I love reframing. Also let the ads finish at the end because I read somewhere that you get a little something if we don't skip the ads. =) Medium is oversized?!? Skin tight on me. LOL Might get me some attention in the gym though I might have to reframe that attention. LOL
    For me anxiety is an adaptive function. I don't FEAR much. However my fear of heights is real and the Grand Canyon showed me what it's like when the body shuts down. Beautiful and WAYYY more impressive IRL that any pic/video. WOW...
    I don't like snakes but I dated a woman long go who loved them and helped reduce me not liking them. Usually other people can help me appreciate other things I'm not exposed to when you see the love/passion/enthusiasm. Music is a perfect example when you're dating people with different tastes. Being sensitive to energy (Create/cre8) (Generate/gnr8) (Energy/nrg) or an 'empath' as others have mentioned, really is what I call a BLESSING and a CURSE. Luckily I've been around a while and learned things that have helped me, but even though were 'social creatures' I find myself withdrawing because of what I feel when I'm around others at this time. Too much FEAR that is not mine to want to be around others. Know THYSELF. =)

    • @AnaPsychology
      @AnaPsychology  4 года назад

      That's so sweet, I think it does get monetized extra if you let ads play out but I'm not sure. Either way, thank you for the kindness!
      And I agree, getting exposed to something you're afraid of is the way to stop fearing it. Sounds like being around snakes did that for you. (I could probably give myself some exposure therapy when it comes to snake, but I don't really see the point since it's not a debilitating/everyday fear)

    how anxiety does feel like for you all? Since I was very young i've always been worried about everything mainly my grades, i almost always feel like I have a knot in my stomach. Sometimes I find myself enjoying life but then i start being stress out again. I feel like i dont deserve to chill and instead i should do productive stuff, i dont know how to explain it ..

      Dread yes, and also your stomach knot, but an intense pressure on my chest like I can't breathe, nausea, and generally my neck and shoulder muscles get really tense and knotted. Also if it's really bad then period cramps are a lot worse than usual.

    You remind me of Michael Scott from The Office going into a pet store and giving adoration to the cute animals, like dogs, and then going up to the snake and saying “You’re disgusting. You will never find love.” 😂😂
    I deal with social anxiety, and appreciate this advice on reframing it. For me, after learning my issues were social anxiety related, which I never considered before because to the world I appear extremely calm, I swear my anxiety worsened. Like taking ownership of social anxiety made it heavier. So I try not to say I have it it, instead sometimes have to deal with it.

    My psychologist has other patient(s) who won't use lifts (elevators). I know lifts are safe and they don't bother me personally, but damn if that one doesn't make a lot of sense. They're almost like a Faraday cage, you wouldn't have phone reception if you were stuck in one.

    I agree with your analysis of anxiety being a sort of safety mechanism. Can you please make a video discussing stoicism and how it relates to ideas of "masculinity?" (Not toxic-masculinity, just regular healthy masculinity) I like this quote from the stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius, “If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment." He's actually right if you really think about it. Studying stoic philosophy/psychology has helped me tremendously diminish my own struggles with anxiety. I use to have bad social anxiety among peers and even performance anxiety during official sports competitions. Sometimes a person's worry can be more of a problem than the problem they are worried about in the first place.
