Now this long version I can agree with. Their past and retro reissues have a place of importance to some of us, but their newly designed watches are a lot like gas station knives. So bad looking I feel embarrassed for them, and they're clearly catering to people who don't know too much but want something frivelously flashy probably most often bought on impulse. Indeed you can do a lot better for the money than Bulova if you don't bargain hunt a thoughtfully preferred model.
Thank you for your comment man! Some of their newer models if we class the Lunar Pilot as "new" are very good, but their turning into a brand like Invicta imo
Not only did they send a watch to the Moon, they made clocks and other dials for the SR-71 and various spacecraft, they could pounce on that but, no, lets make the ugliest watch we can and sprinkle glitter and diamonds on it!!
I was thinking the same. My first watch back in the day was a Bulova it’s a classic design and still beautiful to this day. I recently thrifted a second one in the Outer Banks for 5$. It’s the Marine star 26 diamond with Mother of Pearl. I absolutely adore it. Such an unexpected score. It retails for around 350+ The look, feel, weight & quality is on point.
No watch sub $1K watch is an investment piece. I'll even go so far as to say if it's not a Rolex, Patek, AP, it's not an investment piece. You buy it because YOU like it, and that's all that matters. I own 2 Bulovas - a Sutton and a Lunar Pilot, and have my sights set on a Hack.
I think the Jet Star and the Lunar Pilot are fantastic both in terms of looks and price. I hope the brand will propose more models like these in the future.
Bulova makes great watches. I have 3 of them ranging from $200-$1000, quartz, and automatic. It's my favorite company. About to purchase a Grand Seiko. But, I am more than happy with everything Bulova I own.
Other solid watches from Bulova worth mentioning would be the Devil Diver, Parking meter, Chronograph A, Oceanographer, Hack. Once you get past the tacky stuff everyone thinks about when they hear Bulova, there are some great watches in their catalog. And due to Bulova being generally underrated by a large part of the watch collecting community, you can often find even some limited edition releases on deep discount. If you can get a 20-30% discount, they are insane value for the money.
Another big flop trying to push a false narrative. The "community" doesn't hate Bulova they see them for what they are and enjoy models that fit their tastes from a vast catalogue.
I've had a Bulova watch for 40 years and it still keeps impeccable time and looks great. I love Citizens and Seikos too. These are working people's watches and they last a lifetime.
The level of bias and sheep mentality within this community is concerning. Bulova offers exceptional pieces of high quality, comparable to other luxury brands. Those who criticise likely prioritise expensive items to maintain their fragile egos. Of course, I digress there are individuals who explore various brands, such as myself. However, the affluent individuals with privileged backgrounds tend to tarnish the reputation, often associated with terms like "Rich Boy," "Daddy's Money," or "Dubai Whores" It's these exact people who are ruining it because they won't purchase anything less than well renowned brands for ludicrous amounts.
Absolutely agree with you, Bulova is my second favorite brand, I don't care what others are saying, everyone has a different taste , I have a limited edition commodore 38mm in my collection, which is one of my most elegant and solid watches , I paid like 500 dollars which was a fair price , I also have a computron which is a Hommage and fun digital watch and not an investment like this guy was expecting 😂, and finally I am trying to get an original vintage accutron spaceview which is like my "grail watch"
Well said! Bulova are a great brand IMO and proper watch enthusiasts know this. Jetstar and lunar pilot are superb pieces with a quartz movement that rivals if not betters GS
On an individual level yes, but on a macro level, there are a lot of Johnny come lately RUclips channels where the host is clearly not familiar with the brand and these add up.
Bulova makes watches you havent even seen its not investment peace but they make best desines for the price the movement is old but reliable af its honestly a good desine watch with good reliable mechanics
Long-time Bulova fan here; my father and uncles had them. I freely concede that they need to clean some of the junk out their catalog to improve their branding. However, they also offer some excellent pieces; one of which you did mention the lunar pilot. Another model i never see mentioned is the signature chronograph (96C146). Take a look and consider a review.
"It's never going to increase in value over time" Yeah I can go far enough back to remember when people used to say exactly that about Seiko mechanical chronographs and oh dear, look what happened there. Personally in terms of build quality I think Bulova are on par with other brands in the same price point like Seiko and their parent brand Citizen. Also their proprietry Precisionist movement is some of the most advanced quartz technology this side of a grand Seiko. Mostly great watches although I do agree that they seem to be targeting the used car salesman with some of their offerings
LOL the problem with "the classic" is they have like a dozen watches with that name and they vary wildly. There should be model names under the Classic series but they are all just called Classic on the website.
I love the Precisionist/ 262kHz movement. Very accurate for the price range over 2 time adjustments I have to make a year on 'em, bettered only by atomics in my watch collection
New an old jewelry that would just by the dial part of every one of his timepieces and make his own brackets for them. How stuff always looked unique and epic
Was looking at Longines on eBay. Some extremely cheap Bulovas came up. I came here to see what the deal is. You answered my question in the first 2 minutes! Many thanks 🙏
My 5i Year Old Bulova Chronograph divers watch wich I got new in 1973 still keep perfect time, but because of it's age I only wear in on special occasions. I have a Bulova Marine Star for every day, works great,, purchased it used. My next one may be a "Railroad Approved" if I fund one at a good price. I like the Precisionist series.
I wear my Rolex Subby often. I wear my Bulova and Citizen on the many days I don't wear my Subby. I love my Bulova and Citizen.

I bought a Bulova Frank Sinatra My Way... I know it's not fancy or anything, but it looks nice and is reliable. I see Bulova as the Buick of watches. Looks nice, fairly conservative and is reliable... but not flashy or a small fortune.
Lunar Pilot Meteorite, Marine Star, and Super Seville are all winners for me, I own the LP Meteorite, and I am going to buy a Super Seville this weekend. Hopefully they phase out the iced-out awfulness over time.
Niko, the Brand is pronounced Bull-ah-vah - not bul-O-va. Shitting on Bulova may attract eyeballs, however, it makes for a gratuitous thumbnail. You tend to crow about Rolex, but what about the Rolex Daytona Leopard 116598SACO. Only Nicholas Cage can pull off wearing that weird $100,000 monstrosity. Every manufacturer has a few turds in the inventory including brands you sell, like the Richard Mille RM011-03 Red NTPT 2018. That's not a watch it is a cold sore and at $418,876.00 USD would only appeal to the blind or incompetent.
I have a bulova precisionist and it only last one battery change. I recently had a jeweler replace the battery and after like 6mos dead. I took it back to my jeweler and replaced the battery again. No luck. On the plus side their cust service seems decent. They advised me to ship it to them and they will repair. (Not for free) as it is not under warranty which I understand. We will see how it goes.
I have a couple of them… classic, millennia (LGE). I like them.. work well, get compliments, and still cheap enough that I can wear them casually or with dress attire. The finish on the classic is starting to show some wear after 3-4 years of use.. but still looks great and tbh the wear gives it character imo
I have had the 96b398 for about a year now. One of their Sinatra line, it was the first watch I bought that cost more than $20, and I've been absolutely in love with it ever since. It's simple, it's tastefully designed, it's been extremely accurate for as long as I've had it. This whole video is kinda weak when you spend the entire video showing one of their ugliest designs like the entire company is garbage. I've been alive long enough to know every brand has the capacity to make stinkers. I've met people that can make Invictas look fantastic with how they wear them. Invicta has made some terrible designs, but I won't deny the obvious reality that some of them really work for quite a few people.
Computron, accutron, hack field watch, curv, surfboard, devil diver, mil ships, lunar pilot, jet star, chrono-C, wilton GMT, some of the Frank Lloyd Wright or Sinatra watches... I like Bulova! The limited-edition stuff can be pricey, but the regular editions used or gray-market seem to be nice watches at fair prices in the US
I don't think he likes the Computron lol. It was always a polarizing design even among its '70s LED peers. I'd like it's modern Incarnation better if I could get the red LED and bezel in the chrome case with stainless band. I don't know why I even want one such a waste of money I wouldn't even wear it. But it would look really cool in a nice windowed watch case as a desk clock. 😂
Here’s my take on them: their dress watches are GOD TEIR. Especially their Frank Sinatra collection and Wilton GMT. Their jetstar series are fantastic same with the lunar pilot/percisionist lines. But their modern style watches look terrible
Like all brands I feel like they have some less then interesting to me designs. That being said I could easily collect the brand several I want one I own. I enjoy the history of Bulova I'm glad they are still around I like the American roots
The bulova icon with the presicionist movement is in house, sapphire glass solid bracelets in line with any high end watch, I have 3 of them, I also own a Rolex and omega, and the precisionist quality is equal or greater than higher end Swiss watches. It seems bulova is run by two departments, one which cares about it's heritage and run by watch enthusiasts, and the other to sell random watches in the mall to non watch people😂😂😂
What pisses me off is when they have a perfect chance to do something the right way... and then almost purposely go some weird direction and mess it up.. Then they have to redo the whole thing a few times; like the story of the Lunar Pilot going from one version to another instead of JUST MAKING IT TO SPEC in the first place!! Or they make a perfect watch that could make them some good money if mass produced, but make it limited edition and overpriced. I just learned here about their Citizen ownership... Makes so much sense now. Casio does the same annoying shit. 😵💫
They are a company with two completely different sides who clearly don't speak in the hallways lol. They have some genuinely innovative and interesting time pieces and heritage watches with real intersting history. And then they have the department store monstrosities on the other side. You have to filter through those to find the hidden gems. In recent years though they've been making more of the nicer ones for enthusiasts. I think its just the junk watches sell bucket loads to people who don't know any better and want something "flashy." So until that changes, they'll keep making them.
I bought the Rose Gold and Navy Sutton watch and I don’t regret it, it’s an insane piece to own, then again I’m not an enthusiast and I actually don’t like the design of the Lunar Pilot (I get the history but if I don’t like how it looks why bother)
I have a Regatta. Classic, minimalist, and it wasn't terribly expensive. I recall Roger Moore wore a Regatta in The Saint, which I thought was cool. I think I will get a Lunar Pilot though. The rest you showed were a bit too steampunk for me
I must agree Bulova does have some questionable designs. I definitely think Bulova is hearing the chatter because the redesigned surveyor is a step in the right direction, in my opinion.
They do have some hideous pieces, but they also have some historic greats. The Hack, A-15, Accutron, Lunar Pilot, Chronograph C, etc. Bulova aren't even that hated among enthusiasts. There are a lot of reviews of the Hack, Lunar Pilot, and various high frequency quartz pieces that are favorable. You and Nico are the only two I have heard write them off fully.
Bulova has heritage. There are still some great pieces, but you're not a watch nerd if you aren't buying vintage. If you care about watches you care about the history.
@@DadeMurphie aside from understanding movements it sure is collecting vintage. If you're too much of a slack jawed pussy to pick up vintage pieces then you should go back to buying gshocks.
Hard to find a good value for money skeleton at an affordable price point, but check out the "AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Matador Men's Japanese Quartz Chronograph Marine Grey Watch AV-4065-04" Seems like a solid option for the money
$500 blinged out bulova: 🫷😠 $500,000 blinged out rolex: 🤩 The watch community is so ridiculous. Just wear what you like, who cares if it's a diamond studded AP or a blinged out Bulova. The worst thing you can do is buy a watch YOU don't like just because others said it's good. ie seiko Alpinist or Hamilton khaki.
I’m done with mechanical watches here is my argument. 1: when the mechanical watch is in need of repair of servicing such as Rolex it for take monthsssss. Do you really want your precious watch that you spent over $10,000 gone for months and months out no. That’s why I’ve moved away from fucking mechanical watches because their overrated, they lack the accuracy that a quartz movement has and are higher maintenance take it from a guy that owns over 100K in watches go for quartz watches and btw Bulova 262 movements are amazing ing your getting a 10 second a year accuracy and low maintenance watch at a bargain price think of Lexus vs Mercedes or Honda vs ford. Quartz in my opinion are the Lexus and the ford.
Highly agree that the stigma bulova has with being a mall brand and the flack it gets from heavy hitters like nico but some models like the mil ships and the devil diver are good models. But they're overprice the miyota mil ships should be retail at 600 and under not 900 I got it do to history and being my 2nd watch it pairs well with my farer biarritz.
Honestly, for the most part, most Bulova watches are ugly enough to give Invicta a run for its money but the flip side of that is the fact that I love the Lunar Pilot and I love the Jetstar Limited Edition. Having said that, the brown and yellow version of the Jetstar reminds me of human excrement and the red one looks like it should only be worn around Christmastime. The abhorrently busy dials make most Bulovas unreadable and some are so ugly that they can make your eyes bleed but I don't really blame Bulova for that because Citizen dials also tend to be ludicrously busy and I think that their influence is what made Bulova Precisionist chronographs look the way that they do. If only Bulova would go back to making the watches that made them great with great accuracy, classy aesthetics and good value. With the exception of the two watches I mentioned by name, there's not a Bulova out there that I would buy. Bulova needs to learn a lesson from the positive reception given to the Lunar Pilot and Jetstar Limited Edition. People want relatively clean dials that are easy to read with a nice colour palette (where applicable) and no stupid open-heart complications at the nine o'clock position. Bulova used to be incredible and it's a real shame that they've fallen so far.
Cant agree more with this comments, but it's not too late for the brand to turn things around. They have a huge fan base of people who still support their watches
There is a Fan for every watch brand, or should say could imagine buying and wearing one. My problem with invicta is the case size for example, but wouldn't have a problem to wear one.
Bulova is a great historic brand offering some really nice, well made watches, although most are not to my taste as many are dress style watches which are not my thing and others are too flash looking for me with too much gold plate!
I agree that Bulova (accent on the u BTW) has many ugly watches. The Jet Star is not one of them, and the Precisionist movement is a real gem. I set my mechanical watches to it. Eyeing the Super Seville at the moment.
Now this long version I can agree with. Their past and retro reissues have a place of importance to some of us, but their newly designed watches are a lot like gas station knives. So bad looking I feel embarrassed for them, and they're clearly catering to people who don't know too much but want something frivelously flashy probably most often bought on impulse. what a great alternative for the price.

@@Prof16440 that does depend on what you're looking for.

I don't think your shorts was controversial, just accurate
The bulova precionist is one of the most accurate watches you can own aside from a grand seiko spring drive and at a fraction of the cost.
Bulova has heritage. There are still some great pieces, but you're not a watch nerd if you aren't buying vintage. If you care about watches you care about the history.
Now this is straight facts
LOL buying used watches is not what defines a watch nerd in the slightest.
@@DadeMurphie aside from understanding movements it sure is collecting vintage. If you're too much of a slack jawed pussy to pick up vintage pieces then you should go back to buying gshocks.
Do you have any suggestion for skelton watches in this price range and decent quality?
Hard to find a good value for money skeleton at an affordable price point, but check out the "AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Matador Men's Japanese Quartz Chronograph Marine Grey Watch AV-4065-04"
Seems like a solid option for the money
IMO. Bulova have some gaudy and tacky designs, but their simple designs are nice and when you catch them on sale it’s a good buy
I don’t even own a Bulova but coming from someone who looks like an Invicta inside and out, who cares about your opinion.
The Bulova Sutton is nice and I admire the history but hey I love Timex and people hate them too😅
They're extremely uncomfortable to where, steel bracelets have Sharp edges and tend to irritate the wrist
It depends on design and how durable. Older models yes I buy
$500 blinged out bulova: 🫷😠
$500,000 blinged out rolex: 🤩
The watch community is so ridiculous.
That's a Seiko SKX not a Seiko 5.
Everything is opinion.
I like them.
watch collecting is like any other hobby it is rife with snobbery people should collect what they like haters will hate.
I personally like the design of the bulova octava gray dial ( the black and gold watch with crystal in the video) sad to see people shitting on it
If you’re buying a watch hoping it’s gonna increase in value you’re STUPID! Agree a lot of Bulova watches are hideous but I love the 262 movement.
Worst YT watch channel out there.
Three letters that must be considered in response to this video: T G V
Opinion on the Bulova Octava?
Avoid this watch at all costs! Terrible Timepiece for many reasons
I have the bulova lunar pilot, beautiful time piece. This is a very negative video for no justified reason.
I bought a Computron...
How do you like it?
The Bulova computron in silver blue is so cool, I love mine. you have bad taste sir
I agree that Bulova (accent on the u BTW) has many ugly watches. The Jet Star is not one of them, and the Precisionist movement is a real gem. I set my mechanical watches to it. Eyeing the Super Seville at the moment.
the bulova hater back at it...
I can no longer buy Bulova if it's really pronounced bul-OH-va.
Completely agree, bulova suck ngl
Facts tho
It doesn't suck, you just don't like it which is your personal preference.
