Here's a very obscure fact about FF8: if you use scan on the mannequin enemy in the debug room in the English version you just get a random bunch of numbers. In the Italian version, the translator left a hidden message there saying basically: "Help me, this translation is killing me, I'm super tired"
That reminds me of one of the Aeris in the FF VII's Debug Room. She manages teleports to various maps, but one of them is "Hell" (translated as "Hades"). If you try to select that option, Aeris laughs and says that the debug room IS hell, clearly showing that some devs were... less than happy with their working shifts.

@@GabrielShakkori I hope not, I despise the FF7 remake, it's literally the second FF game I actually quit playing entirely, lightning returns was the first lol
At the start of 8 you can access the balamb school terminals and can see book returns to the library. The book "the sorceress knight" foreshadowing seifers dream and gives us additional context around the initial fight cutscene between seifer and squall. Thought that was interesting.
I don't know many who ever actually read the terminals. Those actually provided a lot of context to the plot and foreshadowed many plot points that detractors of 8 criticize (i.e., GF memory loss). While that's poor storytelling in my opinion as someone who puts 8 somewhere in her top ten, FF8 *is* nonetheless an RPG that encourages players to examine everything. I love seeing others mention those terminals.
FF8 came out when I was 17, and interestingly, Squall is 17. I was going through a lot in my life similar to Squall's life. To this day, Squall is still the FF character I related to most.
I was 11 when FF8 came out. I myself was a lot like Squall growing up, Reserved, Uninterested and quiet, But as life when on I opened up and trusted people around and realize how much I was needed. Squall will always be my favorite FF character
Another fun fact, only the psx version of FF8 has vibration support. Felt really good hitting the gunblade trigger when the controller would tell you that you hit it right
I was literally wondering where the analog and vibration was. I knew I wasn't going crazy! I knew FF8 was the first to support the Dualshock controller, not FF9. I remember discovering this in a section where Find Your Way was playing, because I was thinking about how similar the song was to one from FF7 (the song that plays on the path to the Forgotten City of the Ancients where Hedgehog Pies are found). I was borrowing a legitimate Dualshock and not using my 3rd party one that was just mapping dpad to analog. It was way better. Yeah, you would feel the controller vibrate for Renzokuken.
About Ultimecia's final monologue. She never finishes it, she end it with "And..." But I have a theory. She actually does finishes the monologue. Right after the battle and before she dies and passes her power to Edea in the past, Ultimecia has one final line "I can't disappear yet". I believe that was what she was going to say after the "And..." She was so close to absorbing all of time, space and reality that she was in disbelief that she was about to die. Dumb theory I know.
What about this: Ultimecia is the last human living on the FF8 world, this means nobody is around her to succeed her as a sorceress. This means once she dies she experiences endless agony without any hope to ever rest in peace. She simply had to do something... edit: in my opinion she is the last because sending her mind to the bodies of past sorceresses (Edea, Rinoa, Adel) means she is unconscious in her timeline, so it would be easy to pwn her while she is in that state (if there was anybody bold enough to sneak around all the monsters in her castle).
You can use any of zells moves in his limit break from the start of the game. You don't need to read the books or even have them in the selection box during his limit break to input the button combo for them.
Here's a fact you all probably don't know. Diablos is the coolest fucking summon ever and his animation in FFVIII is the best of every summon in every game.

For me the thing that really shows just how good the music was: Not just one but several asian restaurants in town used parts of the FF8-OST as part of their background music. Was really great when i could pull out my phone and play the songs alongside (well, as Midis back then).
The Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack was really incredibly good. Eyes On Me had fit in perfectly as well. I don't think celebrity singers are needed for a good theme song. They often have their own style that doesn't work with the game or the soundtrack. Leona Lewis was a huge mistake for Final Fantasy XIII back in the day. The only song in the series that I can't listen to. Yet that's what music should do, linger.
I have to admit, that Eyes on me is a much more beautiful song and the singer definitely was great. I was able to relate better to the My Hands song's lyrics, but yeah, the FF8 song is a masterpiece for real. It's a pity FF13 got rushed in so many ways. And its sequels suffered much the same fate. But it's still pretty good content. Just imagining how much better they could have been in the small ways, like, rethinking a voice for the end of the game. Like sure, it's not going to affect the game all that much, but the song can attract new players if it's good, so why not make it the best it can be? More players means more money, hehe.
When I was a kid all of my friends argued that FF8 gunblades shoot projectiles "bEcAuSe tHeY uSeD bUlEtS dUh" but I knew better because obviously they didn't have barrels. I also as a kid read about "vibroblades" in science fiction novels and thought that they functioned the same, using supersonic high intensity vibrations to cut through anything. I suppose this is why in-universe gunblades are notoriously difficult to wield (because you have to time pulling the trigger perfectly), and we only know about Squall and Seifer ever using them.
These videos warm my heart lol. As someone who loved & enjoyed ffvii- ffx-2 throughout my childhood. This may have been my favorite & I always return to it for nostalgia
Though its not stated here, Squalls crit on command is different from other characters crits in that the crits are weaker for Squall. This doesn't really mater and you'll never really notice it in game unless you max out a characters luck stat and see that they deal out roughly 50% more damage then Squall does when upon a crit. Basically Squall's crit is something like a 1.5X multiplier while everyone else has a 2X multiplier on crit. The only time this isn't true is when Squall is performing his Lionheart limit which either has the same crit formula as everyone else or a more damaging one.
Final fantasy 8 is unique in that it can be either the hardest games in the franchise or the easiest. And if you know what your doing you can overpower your entire party at the beginning of the game
FF8 is my favorite Final Fantasy game by far. I replay it so much, and when I do I stick with it till the end every time, where most other final fantasy games I replay, I dont make it till the end and stop playing it before I finish. I tried playing FF12 International lately, and just wasent into it.
Final Fantasy 8 is my joint favourite with FF13. Played FF7, but FF8 just hooked me more. I still remember the end of the TV advert for FF8: The feather floating down from the end cinematic with the text "You'll get over it... someday".
I always thought the symbol from Supernova was a reference to Eden channeling multiversal powers into it's attack, like some mechanical Shinryu. Granted, that would make more sense if you got him from Omega Weapon and not Ultima Weapon, since Omega was the machine built for destroying Shinryu (or... Tiamat? I guess?)

I can't blame the designers for disobeying Kitase's orders and trying to sneak easter eggs into the game, the tentation to leave your mark in a videogame like this would be too much for me
There are so many little events and dialogue in the game that can trigger by being somewhere at the right time or by returning to the same location over and over. Notable ones can be triggered as soon as you get Quistis and go to the city of Balamb. This game is like an old friend and the world feels so lived in.
2 fun side quests that are ez to miss are story of Zell and girl with pigtails from library, and a little quest in fishermans horizon shop when get control as irvine.
Only if you don’t realise that you shouldn’t use draw to create magic but rather use the m stones/pieces to refine magic using your GFs abilities and/or mod cards as it’s much faster doing it this way and less grinding required
I honestly never knew that they planned to have the gardens combine during development. Pretty interesting, and I guess it explains why Galbadia Garden disappears from the face of the world after the Battle of the Gardens?
Random funny bug: In Balamb garden there are a few places with people randomly moving around. If you bump into them, they will move away slightly, then resume their way to their original destination. In the bridge area leading to the central elevator, you can find a guy in a futuristic wheelchair. Bump into him in just the right way, and person and chair will go their separate ways, and the guy will continue floating around.
I love when people say "deal massive damage" in the early final fantasy games when the damage cap was 9999 and could easily be hit by standard attacks.
Another fun fact: FF8's story was so perfectly done it remains one of FF that doesn't have a direct sequel nor remakes. And yes, I am butthurt of why 7 gets so many extra treatments.
@9:48 Near the top of the screen, above the Ptolemian map, that to me looks like some of the math equations also used during Sephiroth's Super Nova animation. I don't recall the equations being overlaid with Earth/Gaia, but that also very much looks like a reused asset.
Final fantasy 8 is the final fantasy I grew up playing I did end up playing seven at one point but I always choose final fantasy 8 over any other final fantasy as my favorite
Still remains my favourite FF from the franchise. it has its issues, sure, but what I love the most about it (The world and the music) made up for my less favourite parts. My brothers and I even named our family pet Angelo...... She was a Labrador though, not an Australia Shepherd :p
You can actually hit the trigger button to get critical hits for all the playable characters. You have to press it at just the right time, though, right before the weapon strike hits.
agreed to this, I was doing those before, zell trigger is his 2nd punch , Quistis and Irvine is the hardest to trigger. Rinoa and Selphie are kind of easy too
@@chrishaggart9041 And it’s not that it’s not a Japanese theme, cause then My Hands woudn’t count, and it’s not that’s it’s an English theme they are talking about cause then Suteki Da Ne wouldn’t count. So by every metric they could be using One Winged Angel is a vocal theme. It’s be different if they just said “Sephiros” over and over again. But it has Full verses and chorus.
the US was not the only one to get a competition with the game. In the UK (and possibly other PAL regions) there was a prize to win a holiday to hawaii, something that fits when you think about Balamb's more relaxed atmosphere.
When they got Florence for stand by me I got so stoked!! I loved her cover and boy did it fit the style of the game, it really elevated it in my opinion. It’s a fire song, it’s relation to the game isn’t even required for it to be great!
If glad they didn't go with a pop star I'd instantly recognize for Eyes on Me. While it would be unavoidable for some of the audience due to pop stars being popular by definition, I feel like hearing Celine Dion might have pulled me out of the game's world and back into this one.
I really really hope I see a remake of this game within my lifetime. The world, atmosphere, and characters could benefit so much from it. It would be so godly
3:35 They showcase this in the Dissidia NT cinematics, when Squall fights Jecht. Squall pulls the trigger, and the blade glows red before combusting in front of Jecht.
9:53 if you go back a few frames, another image above it is taken from the supernova animation. Now I think about it though, what even IS Eden? Watching all those screens, it's like it exists on a multiversal scale, monitoring different universes or realities. If that's the case, perhaps the image isn't reused, but instead a hint that FF7 is just another world being monitored at that time...
Dude I never knew any of those! You know you can get a Squall replica Gunblade in Parasite Eve 2? You can get it for sale randomly if you keep replaying Bounty Mode along with other goodies. It functions like a shotgun but you can also pull the trigger at the right moment of a slash for a pretty much one-shot kill of anything in the game. Unfortunately it can't reach certain enemies or bosses but you can also use the also insanely-powered Hypervelocity Cannon
See I always thought gunblades used heavy blank shells, and that the crit while using them was that, as you swung the blade and pulled the trigger, the fire blast of the blank was vented down both sides of the blade, so instead of just hitting with a blade, you were hitting with a blade AND fire.
there's also some cool scene outside balamb room at 2nd floor, where you'll show a kid how to use magic, and Squall will cast Blizzard then a teacher will scold you, dropping a seed rank hehe
When I was a kid playing FF8 I would press R1 trying to get critical hits with all the characters because I thought that's how it worked. Much to my frustration it never worked, obviously haha
Final Fantasy 8 and Xenogears were probably my two favourite RPGs until Witcher 3 joined them. Next tier down includes FF4, 6, 7, X and Tactics (along with Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger, Xenosaga Episode 1, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and X, Suikoden 1/2, and Dragon Quest 5 and 9).
Lmao could you imagine instead of "eyes on me" we get "my heart will go on" by Celine Dion Also idk why but ff8 still holds the spot as my favorite final fantasy of all time. Even more than ff7R

Okay, if all 3 Gardens transformed, that would have blew my mind as a kid & even now as a adult
FF8 is so unforgettable for me. The Draw system was pure torture
Only if you don’t realise that you shouldn’t use draw to create magic but rather use the m stones/pieces to refine magic using your GFs abilities and/or mod cards as it’s much faster doing it this way and less grinding required
"As he was a fan of baseball...and his wife." I feel that
I honestly never knew that they planned to have the gardens combine during development. Pretty interesting, and I guess it explains why Galbadia Garden disappears from the face of the world after the Battle of the Gardens?
FFVIII is my favorite in the series!!! I never get tired of hearing more fun facts about it! Even if I already know them all lol
Shout out to Tim Rogers. Seriously!
His videos are on a whole other level. He made a 7 hour choose your own adventure review of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cannot get enough of this facts... you really got me this time with many new ones for me! kp it up guys!
a remake of this game, with the laguna part as half of the game would be great
Random funny bug: In Balamb garden there are a few places with people randomly moving around.
Eden broke the damage cap tho, and in 8 in particular there's a lot of mutli hitting attacks which all do way in excess of 9k in the end.
It's quite arguable that Barret had gun blades in 7.
Another fun fact: FF8's story was so perfectly done it remains one of FF that doesn't have a direct sequel nor remakes.
And yes, I am butthurt of why 7 gets so many extra treatments.
I play FF 8 when I was 19 years old and since the beginning, I dunno how, but I always knew how the gunblade works...
@9:48 Near the top of the screen, above the Ptolemian map, that to me looks like some of the math equations also used during Sephiroth's Super Nova animation. I don't recall the equations being overlaid with Earth/Gaia, but that also very much looks like a reused asset.
I always got Supernova and Eden’s Eternal Breath mixed up in my head. I’m glad this validates it.
Final fantasy 8 is the final fantasy I grew up playing I did end up playing seven at one point but I always choose final fantasy 8 over any other final fantasy as my favorite
Aaah, yes! More ffviii content is what I needed! 💕
Hell Yeah!!
Rinoa will always be my first love 💓
4:45 i made a video of that glitch here on RUclips 13 years ago ..
8:46 Matron and Cid actually explains this to you at her house after the Galbadia Garden. battle
Imagine Mariah Carey singing in a Final Fantasy game. That would’ve been orgasmic
You have to press it at just the right time, though, right before the weapon strike hits.
no, it's just Squall and Seifer
agreed to this, I was doing those before, zell trigger is his 2nd punch , Quistis and Irvine is the hardest to trigger. Rinoa and Selphie are kind of easy too
and if I remember correctly, Squall effect is explosion Quistis is like thunder
Final Fantasy VIII is awesome and it's deserves more love. Story has issues but I still love the game and the Soundtrack is amazing.
One Winged Angel is DEFINITELY a vocal theme…
THANK YOU! I've been going crazy looking through the comments for someone else to point this out.
Good video but non-fact is non-fact.

And it’s not that it’s not a Japanese theme, cause then My Hands woudn’t count, and it’s not that’s it’s an English theme they are talking about cause then Suteki Da Ne wouldn’t count. So by every metric they could be using One Winged Angel is a vocal theme. It’s be different if they just said “Sephiros” over and over again. But it has Full verses and chorus.
My first so 8 will always have a special place in my heart. I do get the junction system en plot criticism now though.
I liked the piano version of Dance with the Balamb Fish that you had going in the final part.
That Rag glitch happened to me when i 1st played and i had to restart all over and i had about 50hrs into that run doing grinding and beating Bahamut.
FF8 was my first game and I must say one of the top FF stories
the US was not the only one to get a competition with the game. In the UK (and possibly other PAL regions) there was a prize to win a holiday to hawaii, something that fits when you think about Balamb's more relaxed atmosphere.
Ff8 is my favorite and ik definitely knew the gardens one and the gun blade one aswell
One Wingend Angel had vocals in the PS1 version just highly compressed, right?
Huge FF8 fan. Beat it like 3 times. I love the junction system but hate drawing magic. I also hate the way they handled weapon upgrades.
I find it mindboggling that they worked so hard on this game but didn't look after the data and backups. It's so crazy.
I really really hope I see a remake of this game within my lifetime. The world, atmosphere, and characters could benefit so much from it. It would be so godly
This is my favorite Final Fantasy.
Lol I had no idea about the Toyota Echo promo! My mom had the first Echo in Alabama
3:35 They showcase this in the Dissidia NT cinematics, when Squall fights Jecht.
Squall pulls the trigger, and the blade glows red before combusting in front of Jecht.
Honestly didn't know "Eyes on me" was that popular. I thought I was the only one who loved that song enough to have it in my playlist.
u should check whole Faye Wong's discography then, eyes on me was just another day in the office for her.
Still my favourite entry in the series, probably because it was the first one I played all the way through. I hope they do a remake 👍🏻
Im willing to admit a large part of it may be nostalgia, but FF8 is my favorite in the entire series hands down...
When I was a kid playing FF8 I would press R1 trying to get critical hits with all the characters because I thought that's how it worked. Much to my frustration it never worked, obviously haha
So glad you mentioned the Ragnarok glitch. It happened to me on my first playthrough. I was distraught!
Just started replaying ff8 for the millionth time; will probably complete it again too.
Favorite Final Fantasy. Favorite game of all time.
I knew about how the gunblade worked since I'm a FF8 geek. But everything else was very much interesting.
BEST FF for me! Praying for a Laguna Loire spin-off like they did with Zack Fair
Always love to see one of these videos pop up on my feed
Lmao could you imagine instead of "eyes on me" we get "my heart will go on" by Celine Dion
Also idk why but ff8 still holds the spot as my favorite final fantasy of all time. Even more than ff7R
I remember as a kid finding the car thing odd haha. Anyway, didn't know any of these! Good stuff!
