Hi Ann, I'm with you on that! I see great glazing combos, and think, how can I mix that glaze? Commercial glazes are convenient, but expensive...and sometimes limiting. I'm glad you found some value in this. Stay centered!
Loved the flowers on the black clay! And it was great seeing how Colors for Earth did in the black clay. Also, thanks for the shout-out. ❤ That's owl slip trailed was stunning. I'm in love with the butterscotch opal. I need to mix me up a batch of that.
Congratulations on the new elements. Looks like an old Skutt, an old one was one of the best I've had. Looks like it's outside in the open. I had one housed in an old truck body and saw them last fall at Westmoor Pottery in NC housed in an open wall shed that snow could blow in. Can't be good for them but really shows the dedication of the potter.
Thanks! I cover Chubs with a grill cover when he's not in use. It's not ideal, but it's what I've got! He's a Paragon A88B with the extension. Limited space, but a great starter kiln.
Thank you! They are fun to make and a great use of my reclaim scraps. They make a good kiln filler too. I've got some more in the kiln now. We should have a reveal tomorrow morning if I do a live, or later in the week if I record and edit. Editing takes more time than making! LOL
So interesting about the green mason stain on the flower mug…those flowers are gorgeous btw!! I had trouble with my green mason stain too..I made colored green clay with it and it turned brown in the firing!
Beautiful pots!!!! I love you’re work. Looks like you didn’t get hot enough, the glazes may look better if you get it hotter. How do you keep the kiln outside? Do you live in a warm climate? Thanks for the vidoe!!
Thank you! We have 4 seasons here, but don't typically get a lot of snow. Real winter weather only lasts 2 to 3 months. I keep a cover on Chubs when he's not in use. It's not ideal, but it's what I've got!
love your work! I'm curious genuinely, how does the kiln do when it rains/snows on it? or do you cover it? So brave to have it outside, I would have never thought to do that and if I had I would be the biggest chicken to do it. ;)
Thank you so much! I cover the kiln with a grill cover when it's not in use. It is an old-school manual kiln, so no electronics to be corroded by the elements. I would not put a digital kiln outside, as the humidity would not be good for it. Many people keep their kilns out in a shed or similar. A lot depends on your environment. Thanks for the question, and for watching!
So nice that you share the glaze combos. Usually people share commercial glazes but for those who make their own glazes this info is great.

Thanks! The butterscotch is surprisingly stable and seems to play well with others.

Yeah, some of the stains don't do cone 6 so well. 🤷
Thanks on the flowers! I'll work on a tutorial once I get past all this glazing!
@@patspotpage lol awesome!!

@@patspotpage Thats so awesome that you found something that works. I can not imagine not being able to run my own kiln. I love the Name! Lol
