    Love the shapes & the finishes, the candleholders look great. Also love the shape of that big one & I'm thinking it would be an awesome solar fountain, with a similar finish to the one you used on the candleholders.

    I think I would have done the white paint differently. I would have brushed it on ( not so watered down) then using a ball of cling wrap, pounced it on the white paint to remove some of it as well as give it a funky texture. I like the idea of stacking these clay pots- water trays to create a candle holder. I will definitely try making these but I will cover mine with joint compound ( not as clumpy as yours) then layer neutral shades of paints over, using soil or coffee grounds for interest. I like an older more ancient look. Thanks so much for giving me the idea. 👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼☺️☺️☺️☺️ I will also make thin rope using paper clay and a mould for the areas where the different pots glue up. I don’t like looking at those area so a pretty paper clay rope design will cover them quite nicely.

    These looked great.
    Having done similar myself (it’s all trial and error isn’t it?), I would def recommend investing in those one use rubber gloves, and literally get your hands on the pots when you are using a textured product. Ditch the paint brushes! I’ve done both and the gloves work much better as you have more control. And sponge brushes can give a great aged effect IMO. By the way, loved your video with the expanding foam - the mantle piece filled with moss was stunning 👏🏻. I might have to try it myself 😊🇬🇧

    • @phoebedoeseverything
      @phoebedoeseverything  Год назад

      Thanks so much for the tips! I think I’ll definitely have to try the rubber glove idea, I can imagine it works much better. I’m glad I did the mantelpiece one, it’s an interesting concept because you could make it to any size or shape, and create something that perfectly suits an unconventional space (in my case a VERY narrow mantle!!)

    I think the two part rust solution might have been only for metal pots and that is why there is no chemical reaction on clay? Just a thought.

Of course I didn't see the rest of your project! a little sensitivity is needed for the rest of the people, not all of us are willing to face this. thanks

    Great project. I've recently used Dulux Rust Effects on a timber door and as I was worried about getting good coverage, I probably used more of the first step product than I was supposed to - as you said, extra info is thin on the ground. My door was sealed with a white painted on primer and I was worried that the white would show through the black first step. It's the black first step that has the metal filings added into it but they're not visible to the naked eye. It's only when you paint on the second step product that the metal filings are activated to start rusting. Umm, I thought I noticed you spraying your urn when you were applying the first step of the product but I think you only do this when applying the second step of the product. You wouldn't think it should make too much of a difference but just keep your first product wetter for longer. Not sealing your terracotta may have had an effect on the end finish but you think that would be just by absorbing a lot of the first step product and maybe needing extra coats. Did you wait 12 hrs and apply a 2nd coat of step 1 product? if so, Did you then wait another 12 hrs before applying the step 2 product and spraying with water? My door has rusted nicely but being outside is continuing to rust and I've had to seal it as I was worried the rust effect would not stop developing and it would eventually rust itself away LOL. I've sealed it with 2 coats of Intergrain exterior and it's slowed it down but still continues to rust a bit. I love the Rust effects but shame it's so costly. Apparently, they have developed a specific sealer to go with this product but I was in the country and could only get the Intergrain.

      @phoebedoeseverything  Год назад

      I waited well over 12 hours to do the next coat. I can’t believe how little instruction there is on this product, but I do really want to try it again at some point. I might as well considering I’ve still got so much product left 😅
