- Are you afraid or anxious of tanking in MMOs? I understand. It's often called Tanxiety or Tankxiety. With this video, I hope to help you gain some confidence in your ability to handle to role of tank on Final Fantasy XIV. Ultimately there is truth in the statement that you just need to run dungeons and learn how to use the class in order to grow comfortable - however that is a much more daunting task than many realise. After watching this video, I hope that you gain a basic understanding of how tank roles work to help ensure your runs go as smoothly as possible. Eliminating some of the reasons for worry and anxiety will help you tackle the remaining issues that you may have.

You don't notice how little you know about pathing until you try tank. Realising that I knew shit about map mechanics was what triggered tank anxiety for me.

Thank the devs for the trust system they added to the lower level dungeons , gives people who want to try tanking a chance to practice without feeling pressured.
it's a great system, i definitely recommend it for trying out all jobs for the first time - not just tanks

I too prefer being an off tank, I started Warrior and I'd like to try more stuff as I progress in MSQ!
I had anxiety because I came from WoW, where every mistake is punishable.
The community of FF14 has helped me to overcome it kinda - I only check raid bosses, and extreme trials now.

Thanks for the encouraging words, I will now try to play Tank after a four-year hiatus from FF14, wish me luck :D I got the urge to play again after the new expansion trailer, and I haven't played Endwalker yet so... good time to start playing again

@@osaka_dreams fuck yeah, have level up all tanks now :) love tanking, still mix upp dungeon and trails, there are too many... Starting to look at playing healer also, but that will come later i think.

@@osaka_dreams Also, think I liked Dark Knight the most... Tanks classes are mostly the same, but I do like to use "The Blackest Night" in dungeons
@@patrikalmblad DRK is fun, but I always found the whole 1hp thing too stressful 😭 I enjoy WAR a lot more, the self-healing gives me confidence to be a little bit more crazy with pulls
Speaking as someone who started out this game as a tank, and is mostly a tank player. I think it's easier to learn different fights as a tank since you can afford to make few extra mistakes that the more fragile classes can't. It does put a strain on the healer a bit more but from my experience it is usually fine.
As far as dungeon tanking goes I would encourage newer tanks to just go for the biggest pull you can get and remember to use mitigation. If you die having used your tools correctly it just means either the pull is too big to handle or your healer can't keep up the pace and you know to slow it down. It also teaches you the limits of what you can do.
That is definitely true, especially in raids/alliance raids where you can cooldown most mistakes and end up fine. Trial and error definitely goes a long way towards building up the experience you need to becoming a much more confident tank. Thanks for the comment!
Nice vid! My tankxiety comes from the fear of not being able to keep aggro due to low dps cause I'm a mess with rotations :/
How to tank in FF14: "DPS, but just have the tank stance on."
There, you're like 80% of the way there. Hit your defensive buttons whenever you remember they exist. Now you're like 90% of the way there.
I love tanking, Sometimes I go full "Leroy Jenkins" and see where the cards fall, I know it might make the healer sweat, but its all goooooood. I have too much confidence lol, Get behind my shield and let's do this!
There is definitely something special about the healer calling you "the most aggressive tank i've ever seen", I understand completely
I’m going to try tanking again on my DK. I’ve always been dps in every rpg I play.
DRK isn't too far from a DPS class right now, so it should serve as a good introduction to tanking. WAR is probably the most fun tank class right now however.
I love tanking but disocvered a new phobia when p4s autos started htting like tank busters
lmao, well that's also part of the fun of it - sometimes it can really make you sweat but you feel like a king when you pull through
I always did small pulls at the start and always made it clear that it was MY choice to do big or small pulls. Nobody ever fought me about that because they knew it was true.
It is absolutely your choice, once you're comfortable with small pulls, then you can gradually increase the size at a rate you're comfortable with.
This video make me wanna tank (also I like the voice 😅) it's my least favorite role but I Amite like GNB and DRK
i feel like tanking is a role you need to just do to get a feel for it, if that makes sense
once you start actually running content as a tank you'll grow to love it, i'm sure

if you mean the DRK one i use in the video, it's the Claymore of the Round. you can just buy it from the marketboard, or craft it using an item dropped from Thordan EX
Just picked up GNB but I’m scared to tank, I can’t bring my self to do it knowing that I’m probably gonna suck majorly
You gotta suck at first in order to become good at something. If you have them unlocked (Shadow Bringers), you can do trust dungeons with NPCs while you get the basics down.
