    My anxiety comes from the meta of speedrunning dungeons "must wall to wall pull", I don't want to be too slow and the party gets frustrated at small pulls and longer dungeons, but I'm also worried I'll pull too much and wipe instantly. Everyone expects the tank to be the leader and I don't like that responsibility

    I hate tanking so bad. Got kicked out from duty as tank because a dps pulled at the start of a dungeon and I wasn't ready so we died. Then said the reason for the voting out me was because I stod afk in aoe 15 seconds in the boss fight...which was not true... Probably mad because I wasn't ready at the start. Forever hate tanking, I always get bad people when I tank.

      Its definitely really tough being a tank so I totally get where you are coming from. A lot of other peoples mistakes get blamed on you which really sucks. I hope you eventually find a good set of people to play with to where tanking becomes enjoyable! Would hate to see you being locked out of potential classes you may like just because they are tanks. Good luck out there!

    Truth be told. My tank anxiety comes from MOBA's.
    The lashing that supports get in MOBA's is really something else because you know you're gonna get ganged up on if you miss one stun, one CC or anything like that. The only difference between that and FF14 is that I (feel) I have a pretty good understanding of my role and I have the confidence and knowledge to understand when I've done something silly like over extended or mistime and ability versus when someone is just trying to pass the blame for their own mistakes.
    With FF14 however, I don't have that level of confidence. I don't fully know if I did something wrong or not or if someone is just being a knob. I don't know if my positioning was correct. I don't know if I popped a CD or Mitigation too soon or late. I don't know if I Shirked or Proovoked at the wrong time. I don't have the experience.
    And that's the crux of it all.
    I have 1000's of hours in MOBA's. I've barely been playing FF14 for 3 months. The first two of which were as a DPS. I know MOBA character's inside and out. I don't know encounters inside and out. I understand why I'm stressed and nervous, and I know what needs to be done, by knowing and doing are two separate beasts.
    However, by learning and investigating, overcoming that wall seems much more feasible now.
    Practice groups in Party Finder are some of the most laid back, relaxed, and accommodating environments to learn. The people that run those sessions are either in the same boat as you, or are veterans who would be happy to share their knowledge and experience in a patient manner. Be it an Extreme Trial, a Raid, or even a standard Dungeon, Practice Parties are where you'll find your foothold and build your confidence.

      I had similar story in Aurum Vale but because it was my first time doing LB. I didn't know LB for caster had ground target. I kept on click LB but it didn't go off. People in the party yelled at me for not LBing and accusing me for trolling and threatened to report me. I was thinking of quitting that day.

      My first time healing in there was a disaster as well. I got chewed out and felt terrible.
      It also pissed me off because I wanted to do better.
      So i forced myself to rerun the dungeon. No one died and got 3 recommendations.
      I guess the moral of the story is, don't let the negativity hold you down, but rather use it as a motivator to improve.

    i level WHM up to L60-ish... after half a year, its still at L60-ish... i still remember that traumatic day when i run Nidhogg for the 1st time as a healer(WHM). we got wipe several times, and didnt even finished the run. I got flamed real bad, it was a complete shock since up to that moment i've never experience anything like that for the past 6 months prior. the shame, the shock, the trauma shook me real bad. That was the final straw. i never even touch healing or whm ever again. i can tank, decently, i think, but most of the time i just shoot from far away as Brd or Mch or Dnc(i.e RDps). I did well enough for dungeon below 50, but L50++ when the tank start a big pull... i got diarhea all of a sudden.
    FYI, i never played healing class before FFXIV, and seeing how awesome some of my FC mates are as healers, i really want to try to play it. Alas, it was just too much for me. Tanking is ok, but healing.....

    • @AstroSayn
      @AstroSayn  2 года назад +3

      They say healers control whether a party lives or dies. That sounds like a really rough experience to go through first time healing. I am so sorry that was your experience. Its very understandable that you would feel shamed and shocked from such a terrible situation like that. I hope that you dont give up, you can do it! Hopefully some little steps can add to a overall success. I AM ROOTING FOR YOU 😀

    I have the *tank anxiety* .. that's why I tend to avoid dungeons that are not necessary... I felt like a waste tank.. I try to learn the mechanics BEFORE doing a dungeon.. watching videos and trying to avoid mistakes..Before the 70lvl I've been kicked out, told that I was a pain in the ass, a kindergarten kid doing random stuff..and other unpleasant compliments and living unpleasant memories.. I have less problems now..but anxiety every time..every damn time!! I'm a 90lvl tank now.. learned a thing or two and still trying to do my best. Thank you for this video.. helps me realize that probably I'm not alone in this kind of struggle.

    For me, I don't like grouping in general because I don't want to do something that would ruin someone else's fun... If I mess up solo, well big deal, only person that effects is me... When I do group activities, I run DPS because I know I'll have backup, I don't have to have the power to carry the entire group there will always be one more person there at least to help me shoulder that load... Tanking, and healing sometimes you are the only person, you mess up there's no one to have your back.. I've had tanks and healers ruin a group, it isn't fun, and I don't want to do that to someone else... Just last week I had a tank, and a healer join a roulette together, the healer stayed at the entrance, the tank charged into the middle of Aurum Vale dragging everything in the first zone, he brought it all back to where myself and the other DPS was, he then died from lack of healing and then both the healer, and the tank quit the group at the same time... Took 15 mins for that duty mission to start, and we just got trolled, I assume, there were no explanations given... I wouldn't do anything that annoying to someone, but just being incompetent can cause problems as well..

    I usually get tank anxiety from people telling me I am doing my job wrong...when they are indeed wrong, and don't know how my class plays as a tank...Example being someone the other day that told me to start using shield bash a PLD when we had a WHM spamming holy... It's drama like that that causes the anxiety. Basically the is it me question.

  • @benjaminhutz2405
    @benjaminhutz2405 16 дней назад

    You do not have increased responsibility as a tank, this is just wrong. its just what people think and that's why they have anxiety. Your responsibility is equal to that of the Healer or the dps, its just different. You are responsible for positioning the boss, that's it. Holding aggro comes on its own when tank stance is on, so that is nothing to worry about. The pace of the dungeon also does not matter for the success of the run. And if you mess up and die? So what? Its not a bigger deal then when a dps messes up and dies... if the whole group dies it is never the fault of the tank alone.

    Why would people be afraid to play tank in FF14. Tanking is literally the easiest job in this game if I want a relaxing raid farm I'll go as tank. If people wanna say mean crap to me for my tanking style the can just shutup and be grateful that I put my arse on the line to protect them. I suppose tanking is hard if you care too much about how people judge you.

    • @AstroSayn
      @AstroSayn  2 года назад +1

      while i understand your viewpoint, some people are afraid of the responsibility. It may be easy for you but people are afraid to mess up.

    • @crowofcainhurst
      @crowofcainhurst 2 года назад +1

      @@AstroSayn Yeah I suppose tanking is indeed hard if you don't have the confidence to begin with. But as a tank I know my reponsibility is basically to aggro mobs and mitigate until dps burn down all the mobs. To position boss correctly and mitigate tankbuster and raidwide aoe. Tankxiety is the result of thinking too much about your responsibility as a tank when in fact your job is basically just aggroing, mitigate, and positioning. I personally never judge any tank as long as they keep agro they are good enough for me. Doesn't matter if they want big pull or small pull as long as they can keep themselves alive throughout the dungeon. Bad healer is a worse case than a bad tank imo.

    • @Shadowdawnz
      @Shadowdawnz 2 года назад

      In some cases, I believe it comes down to personality. It might not be directly related to game or in this case class/job difficulty. For example, I struggle with tanking because of low self esteem and the fear of failure. If I make an error and the group is frustrated and flames me, the negativity carries more weight. Which in turn deters me from wanting to do more runs and ruins the game for me.
      Understand that anxiety is also considered a mental disorder.
      Other than that, tanking is fun, sometimes easy and a boost to self esteem when you do a good job.
