Man, I have to say coming back to this years later it really is such a genius twist on a Bitey story. Forcing him to go through a period of true vulnerability by removing the one thing he had on his side (his speed), putting him into the perspective of all the creatures he's been messing with all this time, and all as a result of his own brash, conceited nature. Love this one
Every bit as magical now as when I first saw it. I love how everything is conveyed without a single word having been spoken. I know that it is probably impossible to do given how much time this takes, but I'd love too see a full length movie about Brackenwood one day.
Was reminded of the Brackenwood animations (and this one in particular) by RubberRoss' latest Gartic Phone video; so glad to be aware of their existence once more.
You had to be there to fully appreciate this beauty, running in Flash. It seemed impossible to comprehend the technicalities limits beaten, to have it play in the vector player (the jpg elements were cleverly merged).
It's still available in flashpoint, it used to run like crap on my PC at the time but thankfully I have no problem running it now. You forget how much compression can mess with digital art like this, and it looks amazing running in the flash player.
Thank you for posting these Adam. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years! My nephew (who is now a grown man) introduced me to your work when he was first starting to get into animation. You inspired him to explore his own creativity. I look forward to seeing more of your incredible work in the future!
A decade later and this is still as impressive as breathtaking as the first time I saw it. In many ways even more so since I understand animation and the limitations of flash at the time.
19 years ago I remember freshman year of high school sitting in the computer lab and coming across this on Newgrounds and thinking, there's something very different about this. It's beautifully made which was in stark contrast to most other animations on Newgrounds. I couldn't get enough of the stories and watched every single one like 5 times each at least. 19 years later as an adult and a professional animator of 12 years, I'm stumbling across this again, and I can objectively say with no nostalgia this is a beautifully made film and excellent storytelling. It really is perfect, right down to the original soundtrack. I wonder now if this had any influence at all in how my life turned out, to be lucky enough to make a career as an animation director.
Your work as an animator and creator truly captures some of the most important area of fantasy, for me it's mystery and wonder. I wonder at your unique fairytale settings and character and I love the mystery of how little is explained about these creatures and places. Bravo and thank you for inspiring me for over 10 years
Just discovered Adam Phillips 20 minutes ago. ... These animations are great and the characters draw you into this world so easily. I want to see more asap.
To this day, this video is the single most gorgeous piece of animation I've ever seen. And to this day, the world of Brackenwood holds my imagination tighter than iron
I adore these stories and the creatures of this world. ❤ From watching this on a bulky desktop in my gangly teen years to enjoying the fluidity of the animation on a smartphone in my adulthood... so much has changed except for how exceptional these animated gems are!! And I'm glad to have found the revamp of this mini movie 😄
I downloaded flashpoint quite recently, and spent five minutes trying to remember the name of this animation. It blew me away and still does, and finally I have a PC capable of running the flash animation in real time! I really hope you continue Brackenwood in the future.
I remember seeing these on Newgrounds way back when I was in middle school. I couldn't believe the skill it took back then, and it's still hard for me to grasp. I remember my friend told me you worked on The Lion King.
I remember when this first graced the world with its presence...love the characters, art style, music and thought put into Brackenwood. Been fighting some depression and these videos are nostalgically uplifting. Thank you, thank you Adam!
5:46 Your neighbours must've thought you were being murdered! I remember watching this in college :) I loved it then and I still love it now, along with all the other tales of Brackenwood.
You're an artistic bad ass. The improvement from the 2004 clip you uploaded and this one is significant af! I remember the first time I saw your Bitey vids on New Grounds... I was as astounded then as I am now. Keep up the beautiful work Adam!
I just binged through this again on newgrounds i remember when they all came out! oh man so many memories thank you so much for doing all of these! Keep being awesome.
just yesterday I began racking up my brain trying to remember everything about this mischevious little satyr and thankfully I still remembered his name! Feels so good to see him again after all these years~ This was my favourite episode of all the series you made.
I just remember watching this as the number 1 animation on newgrounds and it just blew me away as to how detailed it is and how wonderful the animation and world building is, and to this day it probably still stands as one of my favourites.
I remember watching Brackenwood up to Waterlollies years ago. It's one of my favourite series I watched on Newgrounds at the time along with There She Is!!, Tankmen, Throwback the Duck and the Sonic Collabs created by the Sonic Paradox team. Good times.
I really hope you find yourself in a studio that respects you or at least a place to do what you love. I’ve followed bitey since at least ‘06, if not earlier. (I believe at least-a lot happens in a years+ time). But I remember your bitey vids years back from now and personally I would pay for a full put-together series. Despite the simplicity, the story is nuanced and attractive to the outside eye. My roommate whistling reminded me of your yuyu video and I binged your videos. I really hope you can continue the series and your abilities. You are a blessing. Much love
Mate I have always loved your stuff - you were the first animator I saw who achieved a truly cinematic effect with Flash. I stumbled into animation via writing, but thanks to your dazzling skills and hard work I was inspired to learn my craft properly. I now know how much work it takes to make something seem effortless!
I remember watching this ten years ago and saving it as my favorite, but when I wanted to watch it again about two years later it was gone :O and now I finally found it again! :) Love it!
This is the reason i wanted adobe and rebelle. As a kid i always loved this art from Newgrounds! Im so happy to see it still on youtube :D this inspired my whole world into digital media and it has given me nothing but the best times
Adam I miss your work and I hope all is well. I remember being a member of your forums as a kid. Almost 20 years again. Rewatching these made me wish I never gave up animating.
I have to revisit this series every year, i really wish that bitey's story continued from here. I recall the last of the dashkin being a supposed segway into a more in-depth exploration of the world of brackenwood, however everything seemed to have just stopped. What's become of our curious chaotic protagonist of the story? Will we ever know what happens next?
It’s crazy how this is burnt into my memory. Newgrounds will be forgotten in the history books hundreds of years from now, but for a generation, it was our after school cartoons. Coming home and checking the front page of Newgrounds was my TikTok, or RUclips. The height of flash animation was fairly short lived, but the people that came from it - both creators and viewers - had it shape who they were in their youth.
oh my God it's been years. The last episode I ever saw from this is when he ran into the witch. whatever happened to that? I was always a little curious but then I thought maybe it just fell to the Wayside. I'm glad that you're back. What was that dark power? what wiped out his people? There's so many questions that was left unanswered.
Holy shit I found it after all these years! You are a fucking certified genius, this is still fucking stellar ani, mation. Like usualluy you look at 10-15 year old flash and it's like eeeeeech but this is Disney level shit!
Tbh coming back on this, the first time I had ever seen this I was like... 5 or 7 or some shit, REALLY young, and without completely seeing the whole thing, and only a few videos, I really did kinda feel Bitey, not really on the bad side of things since I didn't see how the whole thing played out, just on how he kinda acted, I just felt for the guy, and now looking back on this, I do feel for him, but also knowing how much of a douche he really is, yet I still really like him
Hey, I've always been a fan of your work. I really like the water. I was hoping that maybe you'd respond to this message because I would like to make a few videos that include snippets of this video, where I can disect your animation work and analyse it. Would that be okay with you? I'd give you full credit. I've followed your career. Your year of injury that paid off as an artistic journey. Your work in Disney. And your eventual work and promotion working in Bob's Burgers.
Hey Stanzioni! That's a slightly misaligned registration mark. The backgrounds usually went way outside the movie border, so I had to mark the corners on the top layer. From memory, I think this was a layer that I forgot to set to Guide Layer. Also, yes, it's a reupload but this one's HD.

Jack Saint I mean he traveled all the way across the globe in less then a minute..
I started animating because of this animation!...nowadays it's my work! Thank You! Adam Philips!
Nicknir same
i wanted to try and draw my own dashkin, but my hands won't follow what my brain wants to do
Congratulations for following your dreams! :D
Hopefully I can get to the same point sometime within the next few years...
Every bit as magical now as when I first saw it.
I love how everything is conveyed without a single word having been spoken.
I know that it is probably impossible to do given how much time this takes, but I'd love too see a full length movie about Brackenwood one day.
Technically, I think literally a single word was spoken
By the blue guy in the water
Said "hey"

omfg ive looked for this for so long and just showed up in my recommenations im so happy

Love this angsty boy and his adventures
Just discovered Adam Phillips 20 minutes ago. ... These animations are great and the characters draw you into this world so easily. I want to see more asap.
As do I. Got introduced to his style back 2007 or 2008, and it has been a while since I last saw any of his work.
ahhh one of the first animations I saw from you,
still as beautiful and smooth as ever!
and I can't believe it's been 10 years!
To this day, this video is the single most gorgeous piece of animation I've ever seen. And to this day, the world of Brackenwood holds my imagination tighter than iron
Thanks!
I've been looking for this animation since long time ago.
I always wanted to watch it again.
Really a master piece.

the way you animate water... just... astounds me, it looks so delicious and inviting and cool...
I remember seeing these on Newgrounds way back when I was in middle school. I couldn't believe the skill it took back then, and it's still hard for me to grasp. I remember my friend told me you worked on The Lion King.

Such a classic, everything about it is beautiful. I'd absolutely love to hear the soundtrack in its raw form someday, it's gorgeous.
my dad showed me these when i was younger, this is such a nostalgia rush omg
beautiful amazing talent from one guy!
5:46 Your neighbours must've thought you were being murdered!
I remember watching this in college :) I loved it then and I still love it now, along with all the other tales of Brackenwood.
This is so Boognish I love it
This animation is fantastic!
Love the animation and story.
The water physics is phenomenal!
Youre going to go far if you have not already!
Non-verbal communication done to perfection

This was my favourite episode of all the series you made.
Bitey's still alive. The latest big movie project is in the works.
@@chluaid I am so glad to hear that! Can barely wait to see it. Thank you for letting me know~

Gosh I wish you made more of these! I love the characters and the world. It’s amazing 😃
The nostalgia! I am so eager for more adventures of this little hairy and snarky fellow!
I remember watching Brackenwood up to Waterlollies years ago. It's one of my favourite series I watched on Newgrounds at the time along with There She Is!!, Tankmen, Throwback the Duck and the Sonic Collabs created by the Sonic Paradox team. Good times.
I never saw this until just now. This is beautiful.
I still remember this fresh from when it dropped on newgrounds
Eleven years later, this is still fantastic

this one was always my favorite. can't wait to see bitey again!
what i love about your animation is the complicated perspective you take in the action scenes! so dynamic and good !!!!
Mate I have always loved your stuff - you were the first animator I saw who achieved a truly cinematic effect with Flash. How in the world is this back on my home page 😂😂😂 I bookmarked this to never lose it and it just shows up like an absent father after 7 years
This is the reason i wanted adobe and rebelle. As a kid i always loved this art from Newgrounds! Im so happy to see it still on youtube :D this inspired my whole world into digital media and it has given me nothing but the best times
Takes me back to my childhood
Oh wow, It's hard to believe it's been 10 years already.
Awesome. Thanks for uploading this.
When i was younger i didnt quiet like this animation. Now I love it and found it again after rewatching "sonic shorts". Its great.
I remember when this was new. Glad to see you're still animating today.
Dude, this cartoon will be fun to watch for hundreds of years.
This was so ahead of its time
I can't believe it's been nearly ten years since this came out. You really pushed flash to the limit haha, it's awesome. Lookin forward to your game!
Still feel sorry for him and his slow digestive tract.

Eres uno de mis referentes Adam, siempre admirare tu trabajo en 2d.
I remember watching thèse years ago and it is still so gooddd
wow! Found it! Love that animation...
This is what inspired me to try and become an animator, I may not be good at animation... But I have animated before.
I can only imagine how long this took him to do
as fantastic as i remember
That scream with the spiders 😂😂

Could this be the world from your Transdermal Celebration video by Ween? Would be kinda cool.
Can I ask how many months did you take to finish the animation?
Those backgrounds, were they done in flash too? If so, thats like unbelievably good.

Thanks! and yep using parts of my movies to analyse and critique, that's fair use, so no problem at all! I'd love to see it when you're done.
Hey Adam, at 1:04 what is that yellow line at the top left corner? Was it a menu back in the NG days?
Thx for uploading this to YT (again?)
