- Bluehilda wants to go into the woods to catch the elusive Copperback Raboon for dinner. Her plans are side tracked when Francis flies off and gets caught by the Unbearables! Bluehilda puts her years of training to the test to save her beloved pet!
The Bluehilda short started around 2014 and completed in early 2017. Currently, I am producing an ongoing bi-weekly webcomic on patreon to keep it going. / jimgruecomics Stay true blue!

@Pedro Ortega rarely and when it does you can tell. There are a few female side characters in gravity falls with male voice actors, but i dont think grenda counts as she is supposed to sound like a dude

You could totally use this as a pitch for a show.
I did, and while the networks were kind and receptive, it either wasn't the right project for them, or something that was in development with them is too similar . I still want Bluehilda to become and animated series, but for now I am writing and drawing comics of her on Patreon. Right now it's a soft reboot of the short, but new stories are coming in August!

I mean...good animation really just takes time and effort more than mere budget. The budget is just to get more people working on it with more materials.

I hope you have thousands ‘cause one episode of _this_ is gon’ be ‘spensive.
Shiva R that’s not quite how cartoons are produced *after* being picked up by a network. Usually they build up a backlog of progress so you’ll have like four years worth of progress on several episodes with like one or two months worth of progress left to finish the episodes, so you can have a release schedule exist at _least._ I don’t know how many people from Studio Titmouse worked on this but hypothetically Bluehilda as a show would have access to more resources and a more streamlined production cycle.
Also we don’t even know what happened behind the scenes like if there were any creative revisions, so a lot of factors could play a role in why this animation took 4 years besides the obviously amazing animation quality.

Just seeing this now in 2020. Gorgeous animation (it's Titmouse), cartoony AF, solid premise. It just feels like it needs a bit of contrast? Like every character is extreme and pulling faces every other second. There's no "straight man" to all the wackiness. Still, what a fun short!
Agreed. That's what I am doing now with the Bluehilda comic. It's so much better when Bluehilda's the only one to have extreme expressions, while everyone else is going to be relatively normal, or not as extreme in their expressions. Contrasts is fun!
When i become a animator. I think i am personally make all of my characters have their fair share of exaggeration. The 10th animation princpible you mastered.

I can almost garuntee that if this was rejected by executives, the sheer amount of animation has to have been a large factor.
I can't for the life of me tell how this would be animated in any other way than frame by frame by hand like in the old days
No assistant tools, no frills, every cell is hand drawn. It's so, for lack of a better term, *animated.* I can't fathom how you'd make the process any easier, and I don't think any executive nowadays would ever let that fly for a TV show
Maybe not frame by frame, but lately I’ve been impressed with how toonboom’s rigging is handled and CGI is starting to interest me.

There is so much zany expressionism squeezed together in such a short time and it has brought me unbridled joy to witness it! Super cudos, guys! This was PHENOMENAL. lol the time it takes to animate an episode this fluidly is about the same time as 3 episodes of the average cartoon, no one would invest in this unless they can ensure they make as much if not more than simpler safer more consistent cartoons

Midgit Giant Midgit Giant Probably took so long because it was a small team of people. You’re right though, this would take a significant amount of time to animate in its current state.
You can water down the animation and still keep key elements of what makes a show look unique though. Look at Mighty Magiswords (not the greatest cartoon, but watch the pilot then a CN clip and you’ll see what I mean).
This is the definition of a great animator having fun animating their work. All the visual puns ground away at my serious facade and had me dying laughing.

Everything about the animation is smooth, fluid, fast-paced, creative, detailed, colourful and has a ton of energy. I love Bluehilda, she makes me think of a much younger and energetic Genie form Aladdin.

It's amazing to me how we're now about two decades removed, and yet Spumco's influence can still be felt throughout the animation industry.
Never get this show on cartoon network or Nickelodeon. They will cut money on the animation.

tariq starks Cartoon Network is getting a bunch of more shows and the only thing holding it back is teen titans go and that's it all I'd the shows have great animation BTW have you seen the amazing world of gumball. Nickelodeon is a dumpster fire constantly putting in fart jokes trying to be cool they milk the hell out of there succsessful shows for years on end LIKE SPONGE BOB there just a money hungry channel at times. There also getting into controversy because of Steven hillen burgs death their profiting off of his death to make a spongebob spinoff that he would never allow
Darius not so much political because they have some odd ass shows, but since they are corporation they squeeze this until it’s dry of it’s originality.
@@darius3795 There were alot of political stuff in this episode alone. Witch hunters showing their right to bear arms? Sounds like religious persecution and gun rights to me. As long as its funny, politics can exist in cartoons.

I miss back when female protagonists were allowed to be as loud, cartoony, expressive and even as gross as male ones. They were still painfully rare but you'd expect there to be more characters like those now than there were around the 70s. Sucks to hear so many millenials/boomers hate characters like these like they do when they "ruined" Lola Bunny for example. You want a real cartoon queen, you get someone like Blue Hilda, the girls in tiny toons or Bessie Higgenbottom.
Well, if it helps, I'm currently studying animation, and I'm trying to get into the industry and make my own shorts about a young girl with autism, who aspires to be a musician. Being a slice-of-life show, it probably won't be *as* loud, cartoony, expressive or even as gross as _Bluehilda_ , but definitely a lot more so than, say, _Daria_ , or any similar show with relatively stiff animation.
Will you be doing this in your channel? Also who is this "Daria"?

But yes, he can be duplicated, but never replaced!
