Her dress is a beautiful as her voice!
NO BELLS AND WHISTLES ....PURE TALENT.
Dionne added her own style to Aretha's hit and pulled it off nicely.😊😷😷😷
Dionne could sing anything and make it spectacular !
That voice is just simpy amazing!!
Nobody does it better.....Dionne LOVE YOU.
I like this version better low-key love you Re-Re!
Dionne Warwick is the queen of covers
Whitney is the Queen of covers.
Tina Turner as well
Jon Stefanik Aretha Franklin is the queen of covers. “Respect” “I say a little prayer” Until you come back to me” “bridge over troubled water”
R K how many honors did your fave get? You can literally change the music world and they’ll still call you overrated 😂😂😂
@@raymondharris-washington2915 I'm with you Raymond 😂😂😂
Ms. Dionne went to work on this one.
My Gawd, this clip is just saturated in pure talent. Really big juxtaposition between the past and 2023. So much talent and real artists and musicians back then.
I love the dress! pure elegance
Great job Dionne
Not many folks think Dionne can do songs like this. Since a lot of her music was more "softer toned" Burt Bacharach melodies. But here's proof this woman can LET LOOSE when she needs to. Being a singer myself i think Dionne pulled this off VERY WELL indeed.
tomtalker2000 Absolutely...M a big fan from India
Ms. Dionne has plenty of versatility. That's clear and also what's clear she has alot more versatility than her peers. She did that and always come thru😁
“Softer?” Like ‘I Say A Little Prayer.’ ‘Always Something There To Remind Me.’ ‘Are You There With Another Girl?’ ‘San Jose.’ ‘Promises, Promises.’ ‘Then Came You.’ But even her ballads were not “quiet songs.” They were big and crescendoed, with multi-octaves.
Her enunciation and diction are commendable cuz Aretha's version leaves you asking: "What's she saying?"
Dionne's Bacharach influence still comes through.
VCR quality was the best! ❤😊
A much better interpretation than I expected. Very well done.
That was a wonderful performance. At that time, 1986, nobody had any idea what "zoom" would come to be associated with, as in Zoom video conferencing. So many are zoomin in that way in these strange times.
As for this song, as usual, Michael Miller helped to showcase the vocal versatility of Dionne Warwick in singing then-contemporary songs on the "Solid Gold" show.
Dionne pulled this off with class!
That she did .
I JUST LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!! I wholeheartedly agree with everyone, "She pulled this performance off with class', but it's to be expected of Ms. Dionne Warwick. :-)
Jimmy Lee amazing
Jimmy Lee Certainly classy
I love her too!!!
Dionne got vocals!
Close your eyes you can hear Whitney!!!
Hands up to classy performers!! 🙌🏽
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAH!!!!!
She nailed it!
Well damn....LOVE Dionnes version
Come E5 2:39 👏🏾👌🏾 Di did that 👏🏾👏🏾
I loved Aretha Franklin version I was young and all up in the club dancing but tbh this the first time I actually appreciated and really paid attention to the lyrics. My bad. Her good.
Class act
Ms. DIONNE slayed this song. Just saying 😁, lol. That lil quick high note (b5 or higher) around 1:10. Come on now, did u really had to!! Classically, Wiped that song up with soul like a walk in the park! Looking good too. Snatched waist, hair did, and all!!
Ms. Dionne then can pull a song off. She turns them into masterpieces. That's for a bet 🙂
oooohhhhh come on, diction!!! SANG, DEEEEEE
You are right she is the queen of covers baby😎
She tore this song apart
Not to mention that classic short haircut; Dionne is always sassy I tell yah
Pheladi Rachidi truly 1!!!
Love Ms Dionne ❤️
GOD I love it! perfect!
The song that defined Covid times 2020-22.
RIP.
She’s keeping up with Aretha!! Honest Dionne is an out there vocalist!!
Somebody put a clean one up of this😅🤩
Ikr there is another one , thats taped off the telly and thats poor quality. This one stutters. Did nobody have a clean copy. I guess its such a good recording, everyone who had it overplayed it.
Please repost this in higher quality please!
PLEASE! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿😭😭
Superb!!!LuvMs.Dionne😊
wow
'Who's Zoomin Who?' has a similiar beat to Whitney Houstons 'How Will I Know'
Both tracks were produced by Narada Michael Walden
I think they featured Aretha in the Whitney music video as reference and credit...
@@Frost517 The video they featured Aretha eas from another song, Freeway of Love.
And Whitney was in the video to Aretha's hit Rock a lot
Troy McKinley yes
If the Queen had performed this live, it would have sounded great!❤❤👑
She did performed this before lol just 1 time on 1986
She sure did I just saw the concert she did in 1986 and she performed "who zoomin who". That whole concert was lit.
@@ivanaugusto2892 was it just the once in her whole career! lmao!
This was live; all the songs performed by the hosts on "Solid Gold" were live, which made it work so well.
God I wish I had this as an mp3
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ THISSSSS!!!!
I love the concept of the song, while Dionne is singing Aretha's song "Who Zoomin' Who? the cameraman zooms in and zooms out
Love Dionne but Aretha always tops for me x
2:38 E5 tho!
Thank you so much for this upload. One of my favorite TV moments, I loved the wya she introduced the song.. and I am a fan of her take on how she chose to get on it with it. Doing that extra note hold out for TAAAAAAAKE" another look! I think that is what hooked me on this performance.. which now I can see much clearer and louder!! I get to hear so much detail in her choice of styling- especially at 2:40 , It feels so fresh! Oh well about some sound and visuals... I'd watch this underwater if that is all that was available, lol!
You're welcome....glad you enjoyed it!
Truly she sings any song with ease andakes it her own ....wow Dionne stylish elegant classy singer...!!!!
Lyrics to who zooming who
❤
Sang Dee!!!!!!
cantstoptheflow , dionne took this song and worked her
Keonti Toney I’ve been listening to it every day since I discovered it. She made this song her own!!!
Yessssss why I haven't been wanting to listen to rap music I truly believe I'm in a time capsule, like it's so incredible that they was talented back then without the overert sexual tones, love her and Barry white 2gether too...
🙏🙏🙏
👸👍👍
stunning! hard to find the clip but another performance like this is Gladys knight on the masked singer covering Sia's Chandelier. it'll rip your head off
I like this better than Aretha's version
Fuck No!!
She wasn't trying to be Aretha, Dionne made this song HER OWN!❤
Dionne Warwick should have known who was zoomin who being the psychic network ladies head spokesman for the group.
This is better than Aretha's version if u ask me
I could be wrong but wasn’t this song originally offered to her before Aretha?
Ooh, boy, uh-huh
Ah, yeah
Oh, oh, oh, oh, ah, yeah
You walked in on the sly
Scopin' for love
In the crowd, I caught your eye
You can't hide your stuff
you thought I'd be naive and tame
(You met your match) but I beat you at your own game, oh
take another look, tell me baby
(Who's zoomin' who) who's zoomin' who?
(Who's zoomin' who?) now the fish jumped off the hook
Didn't I baby (who's zoomin' who?)
take another look, tell me baby
(Who's zoomin' who) who's zoomin' who?
(Who's zoomin' who?) the fish jumped off the hook
(Who's zoomin' who?) yea-a-ah
Guess you believed the world
Playin' by your rules
Here stands an experienced girl
I ain't nobody's fool, uh, bump you
you thought you had me covered, now, boy
(I've got your bait) but you're bound to be my lover, oh
take another look, tell me baby
(Who's zoomin who?) who's zoomin' who?
(Who's zoomin' who?) the fish jumped off the hook, didn't I, baby?
yea-a-ah
(Who's zoomin' who?) take another look, tell me, baby (who's zoomin' who?)
Who's foolin' who? (who's zoomin' who?)
Well, the fish jumped of the hook now, didn't I, baby?
(Who's zoomin' who?) ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You think you're smooth and you can pick and choose
When the time is right
Just look behind, you'll be surprised to find
Gonna make you mine tonight, oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah, yeah now, yeah
take another look and tell me, baby
(Who's zoomin' who?) well, the fish jumped off the hook, didn't I, boy?
(Who's zoomin' who?) oh, take another look, tell me, babe
(Who's zoomin' who?) didn't I, didn't I, didn't I, oh
(Who's zoomin' who?) sing it out now, child, tell me, babe
(Who's zoomin' who?) who's foolin' who?
(Who's zoomin' who?) take another look and tell me, babe
(Who's zoomin' who?) yeah
(Who's zoomin' who?) fish in the sea, but they ain't me
(Who's zoomin' who?) sure right, yeah, yeah
(Who's zoomin' who?) take another look, tell me, boy
(Who's zoomin' who?) oh, oh
(Who's zoomin' who?) you will remember my name
(Who's zoomin' who?) I'm the one who beat you at your game
(Who's zoomin' who?) ah, take another look, tell me, sweet thing
(Who's zoomin' who?) who's zoomin', who's foolin', who's zoomin, who's foolin'?
(Who's zoomin' who?) ooh-ooh, ooh boy
(Who's zoomin' who?)
This is probably my favorite moment from all seasons of the show that I had a chance to see (in Germany and Austria they only showed some and even those were cut down): Dionne picking up the current hit of another diva, and it felt (although the ladies do competition) not as an offence, not as an homage, but just as a gifted singer doing her take on a piece of popular music that another had a hit with at this time (I’ve said this before, I felt reminiscences of Ella Fitzgerald just doing popular music, making it her own).
Michael, do you have any particular memories about that choice, how did everybody feel?
I'm glad this particular performance stands out so highly for you. I remember it being one of the more intricate arrangements I produced for Dionne over the years that we worked together on Solid Gold, and I remember all the fun we had in the studio when she came in to join the background singers to record all of the background vocal parts. And, of course, Dionne's subsequent performance onstage was as electrifying as you experienced it!
@@bigeyezzzzzzz Thanks Michael! It’s so nice that you keep stressing the fun you all had, and how Dionne joined the background sessions - something that she obviously made a point of, with her busy schedule. The choices for the songs that she sang - were they picked by the producers, and/or did she have a say in it? “Who’s Zoomin’ Who” at that time was a ballsy choice, I guess everybody brought their ‘A’ game!
@Digrient Not only is Dionne a one-of-a-kind songstress replete with masterful musicianship and a wholly unique voice that makes her instantly identifiable after hearing her sing just one note, she also has an incredible knack for being able to take any song and make it into something magical. As far as selecting songs for her solos each week, she and I would meet to go through all the various possibilities, and then she would ultimately pick the one that she liked the most. Final decisions were always up to her, as they certainly should be. As far as the duets, I usually came up with the songs on my own, especially when they were the duets I arranged that involved me interweaving and juxtaposing some of her hits with the hits of the cohosts. And those interwoven juxtaposed duets were her favorite part of the series. In fact, every time I speak with her currently, we always end up talking about one of the many interwoven duets from way back when.
@@bigeyezzzzzzz That’s so wonderful and moving to hear! I had assumed that there were more business considerations involved from the producers’ side (who could blame them), but it’s absolutely great to learn that you and ultimately Dionne got to decide on the final selections from an artist’s point of view! And yes, the duets absolutely were at the core of the show, showcasing all of your talents in the team and with the co-hosts (I only got a glimpse on how that evolved), and the guests. Again, I have to stress it - not being in the business at all but I have an idea of what it takes - your professionality amazes me to no end, and you all made it look and sound so easy!
And what you said about Dionne absolutely fills me with joy (she absolutely reached a further artistic level in those years, developing her full range in so many respects). I’m so glad that you two reminisce about those times with joy too, and that she fondly remembers the interwoven duets/medleys!
She has got a wonderful powerful voice. Better than Aretha for my heart
She's good BUT Aretha Franklin was just something else .... she taught Whitney Houston .... What a legend of soul music
Cissy taught whiney along with dionne and her singing family
I never understood why Aretha never really did this song in her shows. Her voice could have handled it at the ending state of her voice.
Good Morning Ree performed her classic in 1985 and 1986, but she should have kept it in her set list but Ree had a large catalouge of hits that it was hard for her to decide which songs to include and take out.
I wonder why she didn’t appear on the show herself and sing it
Darren T because Dionne is Betta .. 😍
She appeared on another episode and sang by herself and with Dionne
I may be mistaken but i believe Luther Vandross god bless him wrote this for Aretha to sing.
I don’t think so.
Narada Michael Walden wrote this based on a conversation with Franklin; so, he gave her song writing credit.
She's got that Whitney gene in her and its been passed down.
oMG...NO...LUV DIONNE BUT NO No N n....ARETHA ONLY!!!
While I believe Dionne doesn't have Aretha's original Sass and Attitude singing this one, she does have the enunciation and range (at this point anyway, before her 2-pack a day cigarette habit took its toll) Aretha was lacking.
Dionne purposely tries to avoid singing the exact same way Aretha did, changing the keys and phrasing.
Aretha did it first!
She did not cover nor record the song. This was part of this show. Ms. Dionne sang hit songs from various artists.
Preferred the original late Aretha version
Dionne is always siging someone else song! Lol!
Aretha covered a couple of Dionne songs l say a little prayer. Walk on By..and sveral other people's songs
And Ms. DIONNE slays them everytime 😁
She sang covers on solid gold duh
I appreciate the attempt... but nope. I prefer to hear her sing her own songs. Her voice reminds me a lot of Whitney's mama. Also, I can hear where Whitney got some of her vocal stylings.
I'm sorry, does not have Aretha's SASS !
Gotta have 'tude singing this one.
Dionne singing too many Bacharach songs to change her style.
Oh Ms Dee had tug baby, and then some and Sass topped with CLASS!
If you think that you must not have heard Dionne cover do right woman & do right man.
