- From our 1st Season of Paramount Television’s hit TV series, “SOLID GOLD“: our host, Dionne Warwick, sings "Guilty". This recording was produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle").

The best cover of Guilty I've ever heard. Michael Miller rocks! What an arrangement. He sure knew how to capture Dionne's voice when he arranged those numbers for her on SG.

Paramount should work something out with Warwick, and release a "Solid Gold Live!: Performances of Dionne Warwick" album.
This would definitely be a top selling single!
She should have made a studio recording of this tune. Her voice and style fits the song seamlessly. Also, no Pop singer could handle time changes better than Dionne!
This song was written for her, but she couldn’t arrange the recording schedule and the Bee Gee’s gave it to Streisand. Later, Dionne would get Heartbreaker.
Dionne Warwick can sing anything any song and she makes it her own, i really like this version of this song.
I saw Dionne do this in concert as a teenager and was blown away. Her approach to the chorus was sublime in its stylistic perfection -- pure ear candy. Sung with more restraint than Streisand's original, it had a remarkable way of strengthening the hook. Made the song more teasing, effortlessly seductive. I love how a great singer like Dionne can put her individual stamp on someone else's hit giving it an entirely different...well...vibe.

Her range was bigger she still could reach her high but she had gained those lows we know her for

Dionne Warwick by far one of the best voices of all time. I remember watching this Solid Gold performance and being wowed by the way she enhanced the melody with just a little bit of her own flavor. She's one my favorite singer.
I can ONLY IMAGINE what that was like to experience at that time....!

The best arrangement of this song that l have heard. It is alive!!! Dionne seems to have a lot of respect for Bee Gee songs, even before she recorded with them.

That's what happens when you have real talent. You can approach other star's material and make it your own. Both versions are killers and both stars are true Queens on their own fields. Love them both.

Not many artists would take on a Streisand hit song, especially while it was still burning up the radio airwaves. But Ms. Warwick was fearless, and confident in her abilities to deliver a stellar performance.
From the 1960s preforming "People " when some warned her that the audience wouldn't 'get it' with regard to her singing a Barbara Streisand tune. With a standing ovation, at the Apollo Theater, the audience got it!
And here, on Solid Gold, once again the audience got it!

Ageless, timeless, current nostalgia!
Warwick's performance is effortless. She makes it all her own, nothing karaoke-pseudo lipsync Streisand about it! All the while maintaining the integrity of the brothers Gibb original composition.
Just as good as Barbara if not BETTER...!!! One of my favorite songs too sing.

Dionne Warwick can make a song her own. I wish they can recreate this show Solid Gold. Singers like Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson Ledisi, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande can sings other people songs but that's too much like right for them to produce a show like that in this day in age.

Dionne is so enchanting. She puts you under a spell when she sings and you cant help but to pay attention. I absolutely love this! MICHAEL you truly outdid yourself on this one. How in the world did you take this song to the next level i thought it was perfect when barbara and barry did it but omg this take the cake. Then the background vocals are sublime with Dionne smiling and crooning over the lead. The superlatives to describe this performance are endless. Thank you

This delicious Michael Miller arrangement is a magnificent frame for Dionne Warwick's unique gifts. And Dionne delivers in spades. Perfect example of a brilliant collaboration. Kudos to Warwick and Miller for a spectacular musical treat. Great song. Great arrangement. Great performance. Can't ask for more. My ears are very happy right now.
This is Michael Miller here, and you're too kind, because all I really did for this performance was produce and record Dionne's existing arrangement. Well, okay...I tweaked the arrangement a bit. But, anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!!!

Honestly, I was inspired to comment on your contribution after seeing the two live performances of the "Solid Gold" theme. That is also a triumph, and I appreciate that piece now somehow even more than I did in the 80s. It's more than nostalgia. Good stuff endures. Cheers!
Steve Washington Well, thanks so much for all of your kind words!! Doing Solid Gold for the 9 years it was on was quite an amazing experience, to say the least! It all started off by writing the Solid Gold Theme in an afternoon (with lyricist, Dean Pitchford). Anyway, thanks for your nice messages :)
Steve Washington this was one of my favorite songs i loved the way Barry Gibb and Barbara Streisand did this song music at it's best
By the way, a bit of trivia: the background vocalists for this were Dionne, Darlene Love and Eunice Valentine!

I feel like Dionne is having a conversation with me here. That's the difference between Dionne and most commercially successful singers. It's not for nothing that she is one of the most prolific chart entrees of all time. Most generations around today, know at least one Dionne Warwick.
I like.Calculate the formula for who you live your life with. Experience over the years counts.
How DARE she not record this! This could have been a HUGE hit for her. She put the R&B in the song that Babs never did. This is similar to what Marvin Gaye did with Grapevine - meaning, it could have surpassed Bab's version like Gaye did with Knight.
Loved all those SG covers... A collection of those should have been put on an album.... Dionne's reading of any melody and lyric was always so unique and inspired. To mention a phrase that is so overused these days, she truly "made the songs her own"....
Dionne Warwick is one of the best singers at singing her own songs and those that were popularized by others. As in this case, she is one of the only singers that is able to take a duet and make it sound like it was hers all along.

@@oldsoul_anth243 ❤ Thank you for that. Some of her other songs that I do not think I had mentioned include "The April Fools" from the movie of the same name in 1969, the Theme from "The Valley of the Dolls" movie from the same era, and "Promises, Promises" from that era.
"Yours" and "There's A Long Road Ahead Of Us" from the early 1980s as well are much underrated powerful ballads.

I used to be so in love with her voice! Her, Gladys, and Aretha around this time enthralled me! I was in first grade and Solid Gold came on Saturday nights at either 7 or 8 and I was torn between watching my favorite show or going outside to play. Thank God for youtube!

This should have been redid and place as a track in her Gibb Bros’ album “Heartbreaker”. This take was equally wonderful as Striesand’s.

saw her in Paris France live in concert at Pleyel. 1981 or 83? She announced she would sing Barbra Streisand's guilty sold at that time 5 million copies adding she regretted having said no to Barry Gibb refusing to sing it because her musicians thought it was not for her...well Streisand did it and how! and Dionne had heartbreaker afterwards

I would love to have this on my iPod. Great song and it has become a bit of a personal joke with my BF. We were at a cafe and there was a performer that sang it with guitar and we just sang it to each other and laughed and laughed. Obviously this is much better than our version.

This song was written for Dionne. Just like ‘The Long And Winding Road’ was written for Tom Jones. In both cases, the writers (The Bee Gees and Paul McCartney) insisted that the songs be recorded right away. Neither Dionne nor Tom could do so. So Dionne got ‘Heartbreaker’ instead and Streisand got ‘Guilty.’
