Forgot to watch this one for some reason! model looks excellent, sounds pretty good! appreciate this was a pre-release but the flight dynamics looked ok at higher speeds ( still seem to have a bit of that "tight" feel a lot of msfs aircraft have ) but rather pitchy & a bit over-reactive at low speed - actually a bit pitchy at any speed, the nose seemed to snap into position. Probably not enough for anyone to care but someone like me who has kinematics & visualisations wired into parts of my brain they shouldn't be... Never worked on Tonkas - luckily - but rolls and loops with twin tanks, ECM pods and missiles - thats some weight. Although with declaring low fuel I assume they were empty. Bet you are pushing it with a 5g limit, not to mention massive drag with all that clutter hanging underneath. Could you really loop a Tonka with all that on?
Yup, think the handling manual recommends doing it at less than 20 tonnes all up (end of the sortie) though I may have, ahem, tried it, ahem, earlier than that! I’m not sure what drag index this model is programmed with so it may be easier than reality

Was the desire to go supersonic at low level over cities, towns and villages ever present? If as a civilian, I had a supersonic trainer like the F20 variant and I indeed violated the velocity of all things audible at sea level, what would be the punishment? I suppose it's hard to say and probably unprecedented.
Not permitted, or quickly outlawed once supersonic jets became a thing. Damage to property and violating the rules would lose your civilian licence. You’d be grounded for intentionally doing it in the military. Thunderbirds I think did it most recently
I‘ve flown the IDS Tornado from both cockpits. You had the moving map and could superimpose the radar image on it. The navigator operated it and you could see what he saw. In the front cockpit you could change the map style and scale.
I was hoping you used to fly the Tor, I wanted to know in your experiance with it on low level flying was it as stable as the IFE? the flight model seems decent although never flown the real thing but seems to stable and has little turbulent effect. so wanted your opinion on it?
While it used to shake around a bit, it doesn’t get affect by turbulence so much. Swept wing design and CSAS damping takes care of that. It ain’t no Cessna! 😂🤘🏻
I believe on the F3 after overnight rain, then inverted in air show display mode, the canopy below the pilot's head could fill with water which had leaked in. This then gave him a shower when right side up. Has this feature been simulated? 🙂Apparently, the WSO had control of ejection. If he went through 3000' straight down it was time, apparently, to bang out. Didn't ask the pilot ...
We always taped up the cracks if we left the GR4 out overnight so never had this issue! 😂 The command eject selector would be set to both for flight so that if either crew pulled the handle, the other would leave also!
@@cgaviator Remember a det to lossie when i was on 31, rain got in jet taxied to threshold, then promptly turned off and shut down, pilot said there was sparks coming off the eng control panel due to the rain getting in!
Question, when you kicked in the burners on takeoff, it looked like they lit one at a time. Is that a procedural thing with the Tornado, a mechanical thing, or not actually a thing and just looked cool in the video?
Procedural thing when I flew tornado. There would be dry power run up checks then each burner would be checked (kick and a flick, of the Aj gauge) before releasing brakes. It was in case of blowout or surge I guess. And it looks cool! 😎
@@cgaviator Thank you. I know it may seem like a small point. But i crave total immersion. I want to walk away after a flight sim feeling mentally “exercised” and satisfied, just like i did when i walked away from the real aircraft after the flight, shutdown, and buttoning her up. Given your experience flying the Tornado, et. al., I have a feeling you know what i mean…
Spoilers shouldn’t deploy unless throttle moved outboard. If you hit a key bind for reverse thrust this happen automatically. I believe the manual includes a key bind for the spoilers.
Alpha 21 was the limit for F3s...not sure for GR4. Exceed that on an F3 and it will damage the ECM pod, indeed as happened to one of our aircraft at Leuchars, rip it off. The pilot was in the shite for sure.
So im assuming the gr4 was never really used as an interceptor, or at least it was designed as a tactical bomber? but given some of your previous content, how does this one fair in sim?
Any chance you could do a cold and dark start up video for us since you know what you’re doing, so we can be prepared for when it gets released. If it ever gets released 😭😭😭 thank you

Any plans to upload some DCS F-4 video's? Challenging plane to fly and would be interested in some IP guidance. Assume RAF F-4 was before your time, but sure you can add some useful information about correct handling like you successfully do for various MSFS fast jets
@@Scoop1_1 haven’t had chance to do anything of late. Won’t have time to learn anything DCS that’s for sure. Though I’d love to get back into it
@@cgaviator Understood, hope the lack of time is due to something positive. Your MSFS content is great and keep up the good work. Nevertheless, would love to see some more DCS content as well (with or without 'kinetics'). Specially the new HB F-4 module. Love Cold War / 2nd and 3rd Gen jet's, specially as the are a handful to fly. Respect to those who did at the time.
great video as always. Love the Tornado. Issue I had was having the reverse thruster mapped to my warthog throttle axis which worked and it selected the rev thruster and wing spoilers but when the reverse thruster disengages I cant get the wing spoilers to retract again? any thoughts thank you.
There’s a key bind for spoilers 👍🏻
Do we know if there's a way to Bind wing sweep to a lever? I have plenty of spare levers on my quadrant, would make life in the Tornado a lot easier.
I don’t think so, not yet. Would be sweet though.
Can you make a Start Up procedure video? Tks 😊
Will do eventually 👍🏻
Ex TWCU, IX and 12 Sqn plumber. Always nice to see the old girl (GR1) for me in the air. The best of times for this old boy serving during the Cold War. "Babies head anyone?" 😁
lol, thanks for you service!
Are you planning 9n doing some tutorials for the Tornado? Pretty please
I wish, sadly unable at present
Was the desire to go supersonic at low level over cities, towns and villages ever present?
If as a civilian, I had a supersonic trainer like the F20 variant and I indeed violated the velocity of all things audible at sea level, what would be the punishment?
I suppose it's hard to say and probably unprecedented.
Not permitted, or quickly outlawed once supersonic jets became a thing. Damage to property and violating the rules would lose your civilian licence. You’d be grounded for intentionally doing it in the military. Thunderbirds I think did it most recently
what is the outer right wing pylon ordinance? is it a fuel tank? ive seen it so many times and i googled about it but cant find any info about it.
ECM on the left, BOZ pod on the right (chaff and flares)
@@cgaviator aha! I though it had flares since it looked like a flare dispenser from behind. Thanks!
Thank you for the video as always, What information would be seen on the CRPMD? is IFE a good representation?
It is the combined radar and map display and shows the radar image superimposed on the map.
I’ve not flown with a CRPMD but I believe it was an analogue moving map. MSFS always has trade offs for fast jets.
@@cgaviator awesome to know thank you for the quick response. Great video as alway
@@CTTechGaming pleasure!
Hi, do you use any addons that are changing Bing to Google Maps or Apple maps, for example?
I tried it once, but didn’t see enough benefit to keep it
I believe on the F3 after overnight rain, then inverted in air show display mode, the canopy below the pilot's head could fill with water which had leaked in.
@@cgaviator Really? We flew with it off after the HF-aerial incident in Germany.

@@cgaviator Excellent! Thx for the info.
Looks sweet.
QUESTION:
Do the reversers deploy so “abruptly” in real life ?
They almost seem mes to “snap” into position as they deploy.
Yup, they’re pretty quick!
Can you tell me how to retract the spoilers on the wings after landing? It looks like the Tornado brakes automatically
Spoilers shouldn’t deploy unless throttle moved outboard. If you hit a key bind for reverse thrust this happen automatically. I believe the manual includes a key bind for the spoilers.
I know it's early days but will you be doing a cold and dark?
Sadly no time presently! Eventually
Alpha 21 was the limit for F3s...not sure for GR4. Exceed that on an F3 and it will damage the ECM pod, indeed as happened to one of our aircraft at Leuchars, rip it off. The pilot was in the shite for sure.
Thanks! And I bet! 😅
So im assuming the gr4 was never really used as an interceptor, or at least it was designed as a tactical bomber?
but given some of your previous content, how does this one fair in sim?
GR4 was a bomber, F3 was an interceptor. This one’s not bad, but still work in progress.
With the released version, how to you keep the wings out? Whenever I raise the flaps they go to full sweep mode.
If you have a button bound for flaps all the up that might be your issue. Try using flap incremental key bind. That will let you pick a sweep
@@cgaviator I was able to sort it out!
Any chance you could do a cold and dark start up video for us since you know what you’re doing, so we can be prepared for when it gets released. If it ever gets released 😭😭😭 thank you
I will do, but I’d like to wait for when all the features are 100% 👍🏻
I flew around the world in the X plane 11 version. At least your moving map works on this version. I liked the TFR and used to cruise at 1000ft. Big fat old girl was not that good in the hills low level.
She loved the hills but you gotta treat her right and plan well ahead! Unless you mean mountain valleys, in which case plan… or be very nervous! 😂
@@cgaviator I downloaded Scotland and just got tucked in at 450kts
You have to be joking; she was a babe at low level in the hills.
This needs to come out now xD take my damn money
I’ll take your money, but I can’t guarantee you’ll get the model! 😂
Do you prefer the look of a fully loaded tornado or one that’s just the airframe itself? :)
Gotta be fully loaded! 🤘🏻
Nice one Chris…🤭👍🏿
Thanks 🙏🏻
what are your thoughts on Tornado coming to DCS?
I’m sure it’ll be epic… but a loooong way off!
What’s your opinion of MSFS flight model
Could be better!
Great Vid ,was the Gr4 a low-low-low or ...?
More a high low high! 😊
@@cgaviator thanks
My G walm up is , Gee that was close to the ground
Badum tsh! 😂
Are the throttles rocked to select thrust reverse and lift dump?
They have key binds to enable each separately, both throttles can be clicked to enabled lift dump then reverse thrust. Details in manual I presume
But in short, yes! 😅
@@cgaviatorMuch appreciated. Any plans for further tutorials as many users of this model don't seem to use, for instance, taxi nozzle.
The problem with MSFS is the flight models are rubbish. Will you be checking out the DCS version when that is eventually released 2026 onwards??
I’m in the SME panel for it but progress will be slow I think. I’m working to improve the flight models but they are a little strange. Small steps…
Hi Chris, forgive my ignorance, but when you refer to the “Alpha” is that AOA?
Yup 👍🏻
@@cgaviator I’m new to flight sim and after a while in the Cessna 152, I’m now in the Grob Tutor. Going to try the RAF route. After the Grob the Texan, then the Hawk. I find your videos very informative.

I've been looking forward to this bird for a while, just hoping it's got a good flight model. How do you find it ?
lacks a good sound set, looks good, but the immersion is lot with the sound.
True, maybe they’ll upgrade it like they’re about to with the F35
Nice...30 % of this machine's was lost in Iraq 1991....
Is that right!? Didn’t know that
It makes me laugh how expensive these planes are. Its just a plane. No weapon systems, functional radars, missions, etc... just a plane😅
Probably half the price of the DCS equivalent so makes sense to me. But understandable everyone has different tolerances.
