Thanks very much for the offer of help, FFV - much appreciated! Back in the 80s, a theater in West LA, watching "Local Hero". They are chatting on the beach in Scotland about a land purchase for the oil company - two tornadoes roar over, turn and disappear behind the rolling hills. Boom, boom! "As long as they're bombing the beach they can't be bombing anywhere else," muses the Reverend. "It's kind of comforting." Perhaps, says Mac, but the jets and their roar "spoil a very nice area." That's when I fell in love with the Tornado..... Ah, my war-mongering youth.
@@MrSunlander Easy mistake, the Tornado is an impressive aircraft (the ground used to shake when they revved the engine for takeoff). The Jaguar was a sweet aircraft but always overlooked in the Flight Sim world 🙂
@@ianhenry4046 I remember waiting for one to no avail in FSX/P3D. I seem to recall the Jaguar had a short career as well in real life. I'll probably get this puppy and buzz Ben's Beach anyway. Cheers!
You're not the only one to note it's a bit pitchy, but what's new for a MSFS aircraft. Seems to have that tight, constrained feel ( vs more fluid but still controlled movement ) common to most of them too. Cockpit looks nice, sounds are good, not 100% on the external model, although despite seeing hundreds of these things they were usually going past at 450kts :D so slight issues probably wouldn't bother me much. Want to like it enough to get it but I don't know... How does it handle low level turbulence? it was built for low level with a fairly high wing loading so it shouldn't really get smashed about, but again this is MSFS.
Your channel’s legitimacy is UNMATCHED. such in depth knowledge. You literally add to the immersion of Flight Simulator with this channel!! KUDOS!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Does anyone know why when I try to go vertical with the tornado it won't do it and only climbs at certain degrees and then if I try to pull up it rolls to the right?
Hello Jeffrey, I was using “Airshow Assistant” - a great little tool, that allows you to do this sort of thing. I highly recommend the app; here’s a slightly more detailed breakdown of the functions available, if you’re interested: ruclips.net/video/fBH6hwH4qZk/видео.htmlsi=RxxDxa6c-5XNORps I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )
Hi MrMaya, Some addons do have visually modelled weapons however, implementation is usually pretty basic and you can’t shoot down other aircraft / destroy buildings etc. Any addons purchased within the sim(via the Marketplace), have a total ban on weapons. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best!
❤thanks❤ Excellent review as always. A sudden buy for me. Brilliant tutorial to start that beast. I guess I have to watch it a lot💯 Have a wonderful weekend and take care.
Have they included CofG & weights & balances etc? We would never have the wings beyond 25° on the ground. Especially with tanks on & if the fin tank is in use you’d end up with your arse on the ground eventually. The GR4’s I worked on all had their fin tanks inhibited & the wings stayed put fully fwd.
Hi Madeyes, Weight and balance has definitely been modelled to some degree however, I’ve no idea how accurately it’s been done. That’s very interesting re the wing sweep; both the IFE and Just Flight checklists call for 25 degrees on the wing sweep but, the IFE Tornado seems to load in with 45 degrees (or whatever the mid position equates to) on the sweep (perhaps this has been subsequently addressed, I’m not sure). For what it’s worth, you can sweep the wings fully aft in the sim and the aircraft won’t tip (so, weight and balance modelling presumably isn’t 100%). Thanks for the info! Much appreciated and all the best to you : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations even in the hanger when we knew there was no fuel & no seats in the cockpit we wouldn’t sweep the wings without the jet on jacks or a trestle under the tail. There’s a picture somewhere of a tornado on its arse after the fun was left full of fuel. But I did only work on the IDS version. Not sure about the ADV as it was slightly longer.
Your Welsh pronunciation is better than most, but if you want to really nail it I'd be happy to help. I'm born and bred Snowdonia. pro tip for Dinorwic roll your 'R' and replace the C with a G.... Din oRR wiG. Welsh often mutates letters, it's complicated, but applies here.
Many thanks, Kris! I very much appreciate the offer but, “better than most” will have to suffice (I like to get place names correct where I can however, I can only dedicate limited time to such endeavours, given that I fly all over the place, here on the channel). Noted for Dinorwic though - I shall try and remember that one in future (although, I’ve just recorded another video in the area so, you might have to bear with me on that one haha). Lucky you, living in such a beautiful part of the world! Cheers again and all the best : )
Hi Collin, I’m using a head-tracking device called "TrackIR" for the camera movements. It's great, although a little pricey. There are cheaper / freeware alternatives available though, should you wish to give it a go for yourself : ) I hope that helps. All the best!
Your parking brakes are off, not on. The parking brake would be on if the parking brake handle was pulled out and rotated anti clockwise to about a 7 o'clock position. Looks good though :)
Cheers for the info, Matt. So far as the sim is concerned, the parking brake was set so, a little bit of a modelling error perhaps : ) Cheers, all the best!
Tornado sounds absolutely ear-splitting outside IRL, I can't believe the APU is louder than the engines. Maybe the sound is simulating the inside of a flight helmet. Excellent review of an otherwise great addon.
Surprisingly Roland, a number of ex Tonka ground crew have stated (in the comments section), that the APU is indeed louder than the main engines. I still don’t see how that can be possible haha but, they would certainly know better than me! XD Either way, the main engines still need a bit more “ooomph”, they ought to be “ear-splitting”, as you say. A big thank you, as always! : )
I believe he's a real life pilot? I guess after a few aircraft learned in real life and a million ones learned on the sim the things are in the end very much just different orderings of the same things.
Hi VBP, Haha, there’s no “secret” per se; it is basically just a question of sitting down with the manual and running through a couple of flights, to get acquainted with the aircraft etc. The startup usually takes the most work and the rest follows (as by then, one tends to know their way around the cockpit a little bit better). As with most things, it’s just a question of practice really. One of the aspects of simming that I have always enjoyed, is sitting down with a new aircraft and figuring it out. As a result, I think I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out a new addon pretty quickly (and in many cases, there will be a lot of systems commonality between one aircraft and the next). I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
Hi TSM, For the thumbnail, or for the sim footage? I don’t use any filters for the sim although, I do adjust some of the external shots during editing (adding a little bit of contrast and vignette). Most of the visual “improvements”, come from being very selective with in-sim lighting / weather (both make a huge difference to visual fidelity). I hope that clarifies things a little? All the best : )
Hi Philip, Yes, I’m pretty sure you do get the weight (the aircraft squats down on the gear, as you load it up). I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best : )
First off, thank you for your superb videos. Just bought this beauty and was wondering if you know if it is possible to deploy the arrestor hook for carrier landings? Can't seem to find how. Same for the launch bar. Is it modelled? Love this aircraft.
Hello Michel, Thanks very much for the kind words - I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content! Apologies for the slow reply: The Tornado is not a carrier capable aircraft so, there’s no launch bar installed and the tailhook is only there as an emergency backup, allowing the aircraft to recover (at a shore-based aerodrome) in the event of a brake failure etc (and I don’t believe the tailhook has been modelled by IFE). I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
Hi Siddich, If you’d like to see a little bit more detail regarding Airshow Assistant, this video should help: ruclips.net/video/fBH6hwH4qZk/видео.htmlsi=cr5Eduxa1aaqexK Airshow Assistant is a great little program overall : )
Many thanks, Jonathan! To engage the afterburners, you either need to set up a hardware keybind, or set up your throttle axis, such that max throttle is tied to said keybind. I’m afraid it’s a little bit tricky to explain here but, I believe there are tutorials available online. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
I’ve been enjoying it since day one release, they certainly seem to have done the Tornado justice. That said I’d agree the startup sounds are less than ideal.
Apologies for the slow reply, Robert. Apparently, the unit in question allows the pilot to slew the boresight (when in the appropriate mode); looking at the unit, it essentially looks like a thumb-operated, track-ball mouse. I hope that helps. All the best : )
Hi IceMan, Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! For my thumbnails, I use “Paint.net”; it’s a freeware program that (given that my thumbnails aren’t particularly complex) does everything that I need it to do : ) I hope that helps. All the best!
Hi Christian, It might also be a bit of a “gauge error” - the gauges seem to sit at around 84%, throughout a wide range of EGT / TIT values. . . All the best : )
Hi SCTV, Does this happen during any turn, or at low speeds / under high g? If it’s that latter, I suspect that’s a purposely programmed effect of the flight model (to what degree it’s accurate, I have no idea) - most non-FBW jets still require careful energy management. If it’s the former, make sure you have MSFS’ flight model set to “Modern” and not “Legacy”. Hopefully that’s of some help? All the best : )
It does have it there’s multiple videos showcasing it it must be either a bug or you activated revere thrust wrong check boresights video on the tornado and any CG aviator video on the tornado they both show the reverse thrust working normally with the sound that comes with it
In the manual, after a quick scan, I'm sure I read 68 degrees sweep isn't used with the heavier tanks or when the aircraft is over a certin weight config or something like that .
@@commander_shadow2444 I didn't bother watching their videos as both never bothered with a cold and dark start up. The sound is present from the cockpit however you can't hear it externally unfortunately.
Thanks very much Graham, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’ve tried most virtual Tonka’s since the days of FSX but, funnily enough, I think the X-Plane one is just about the only exception (not for any particular reason). To my mind, this is the best virtual Tornado that I have come across to date but, it will be very interesting to see what Just Flight comes up with! Cheers, all the best : )
Ah well, that’s a shame, Mark; I purchased the F-111 recently and I haven’t had a chance to try it yet haha (but am planning on reviewing it at some point). All the best!
Hi Khold, I think it’s just the bitrate, video processing and RUclips compression all taking their toll. Everything was recorded / uploaded at 1080p. All the best : )
Lovely video! Am I the only one that’s really triggered by the way the front end looks? The nose, fuselage especially. It’s proportionally off compared to the real thing? The undercarriage also looks too small and different to the real thing? Maybe I’m being ridic but for £30 you’d expect it to at least look like the actual jet.
It's a bit a hit and miss ... the upper fin is also wrong for most of the jets. The additional (I think it is an external light but I am not sure) stinger just bellow the aft RWR fairing is only correct for the italian version or for very early production jets for the other countries. I think they sadly used one of the prototypes for measuring as the engine intakes are also the old ones. You can clearly see this when looking from the side.
Thanks very much Mark, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I can’t say I noticed an issue with the front end but, then again, I’d always be the first to admit that I have a really bad eye for that sort of thing haha (could it be related to hangovers from the IDS model?). I didn’t notice the wheels at the time however, a few people have made mention of the same thing and I think you might be onto something (I now cant “un-see” it). Either way, I’m pretty sure that IFE will continue to adjust / improve the Tonka, they have been pretty tireless with their F-35. Cheers, all the best! : )
Haha, there will no doubt be a review of the PA-38 at some point, Mike; as usual, I’m playing catch-up haha ; ) I’m glad you enjoyed the Tonka vid. Cheers!
Too bad with engine noise. It can never be overdone in a jet fighter. At full AB the noise is more than deafening. The cockpit shakes so bad it is hard to read instrument.
I very much agree re the engine noise Øystein, at least externally. Does it really end up vibrating that much internally - I had no idea. . ?! All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations My only experience is the small F-5 ground run up. Larger fighters may of course be less violent in cockpit. But for immersion they could add some vibration.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations they are possible, yes. as individual regions. they only did australia, and if you want more than that, you’d have to do it yourself. you can’t have custom maps on a global scale, that’s why everyone resorts to the default.
Ahh, that makes sense then. I wasn’t expecting global mapping; Sim Skunk Works used to offer (as a separate download) custom maps for the UK, Italy and Germany (obviously, the biggest users of the Tornado) - I thought that would be a nice option for IFE to include also : )

I may have missed something in your very good video, but I had no problem to rock the throttles outboard using the mouse and I found a pretty good description of the reversers in the manual. What are you missing here? I‘m glad to help.
Thanks very much for the offer of help, FFV - much appreciated!
I did go through the manual but, obviously missed a pertinent point, that hardware binds for rocking the throttles need to be enabled via the WSO menu. I did try for a throttle clickspot also, but somehow failed to figure that out haha. All good now though!
Cheers again and all the best : )
The camera operator needs a raise!
Haha! Thanks CC - I shall inform RUclips! : P
Much appreciated and all the best to you : )
To enable the throttle rock the manual says you have to enable it through the jester menu initially then use water rudder keybind
Ahhhh, thank you very much, Jimbo! Despite having looked 2-3 times, I somehow missed the Jester menu part (doh).
Much appreciated! All the best : )
Great job on this video; you earned a new subscriber :) Cheers.
Many thanks, Matt! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome aboard : )
Whew!..great video. It looks like a lot to handle. Thank you
Thank you very much, Donald! I’m glad you enjoyed the flight : )
Ex 617 and 12 fairy 😁 This brought back some memories!
I’m really glad the video brought back some nice memories, Ian! Thanks for watching and all the best : )
Nice video, but with the spil not works on me..red light "FAIL" is on. its red and not green.. what can i do, or what for a test i had not testing? greetings
Hello Ron,
Apologies for the slow reply, did you manage to get things figured out? I’ve had the same on occasion; I find turning the system off / on again and then carrying out another BITE test, usually does the trick.
Do let me know. All the best!
The airbrake indicator is showing the airbrakes in but not locked, when locked that white indicator moves almost out of sight.
Has there been an update to address the sounds and issues
Back in the 80s, a theater in West LA, watching "Local Hero". They are chatting on the beach in Scotland about a land purchase for the oil company - two tornadoes roar over, turn and disappear behind the rolling hills. Boom, boom! "As long as they're bombing the beach they can't be bombing anywhere else," muses the Reverend. "It's kind of comforting." Perhaps, says Mac, but the jets and their roar "spoil a very nice area." That's when I fell in love with the Tornado..... Ah, my war-mongering youth.
The aircraft in Local Hero aren't Tornado's, they are Sepcat Jaguars Gr3's.
@@ianhenry4046 Too late. in love by mistake.
Cheers!
man you're running some really nice scenery too
You're not the only one to note it's a bit pitchy, but what's new for a MSFS aircraft.
KUDOS!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Many thanks for the very kind words, Mattie - hugely appreciated! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content to such a degree : )
Cheers and all the best!
Does anyone know why when I try to go vertical with the tornado it won't do it and only climbs at certain degrees and then if I try to pull up it rolls to the right?
How did you get that formation set up?.
I assume with the flight recorder with AI playback.
Hello Jeffrey,
I was using “Airshow Assistant” - a great little tool, that allows you to do this sort of thing. I highly recommend the app; here’s a slightly more detailed breakdown of the functions available, if you’re interested: ruclips.net/video/fBH6hwH4qZk/видео.htmlsi=RxxDxa6c-5XNORps
I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )
Yes, I've since installed this.
Very good.
Ah great. Glad you’re enjoying it : )
Does Microsoft still not allow attacks on ground or air targets in Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Hi MrMaya,
Some addons do have visually modelled weapons however, implementation is usually pretty basic and you can’t shoot down other aircraft / destroy buildings etc. Any addons purchased within the sim(via the Marketplace), have a total ban on weapons.
I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best!
❤thanks❤
Excellent review as always.
A sudden buy for me.
Brilliant tutorial to start that beast.
I guess I have to watch it a lot💯
Have a wonderful weekend and take care.
Thank you, sir! My pleasure. I’m glad the video was of use and I do hope you’re enjoying the Tonka : )
Happy flying and have a great weekend!
Hi Madeyes,
Weight and balance has definitely been modelled to some degree however, I’ve no idea how accurately it’s been done.
How do you make your camera move like that ?
Hi Collin,
I’m using a head-tracking device called "TrackIR" for the camera movements. It's great, although a little pricey. There are cheaper / freeware alternatives available though, should you wish to give it a go for yourself : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
What’s your default for the air brakes?
The single fin, swing wing, grey and green death machine.
I believe there is a fault with jester he says roger instead of woger ! Do you find this wissable?
Another great video thanks
I just got the Tornado look forward to many hours flying it👍
Thanks very much, Footlaunch! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and I do hope you’re enjoying the Tornado also : )
Happy flying and all the best!
Your parking brakes are off, not on. The parking brake would be on if the parking brake handle was pulled out and rotated anti clockwise to about a 7 o'clock position. Looks good though :)
Cheers for the info, Matt. So far as the sim is concerned, the parking brake was set so, a little bit of a modelling error perhaps : )
Cheers, all the best!
XD
Either way, the main engines still need a bit more “ooomph”, they ought to be “ear-splitting”, as you say.
A big thank you, as always! : )
I think the radio chat is from Dessert Storm?
Correct, sir! : )
stunning
Why don't have review in outside???
ITB, I’m always amazed at how you learn so many procedures for so many aircraft including the idiosyncrasies associated with them. What’s your secret?
Flight manuals ;) or discord
I believe he's a real life pilot? I guess after a few aircraft learned in real life and a million ones learned on the sim the things are in the end very much just different orderings of the same things.
Practice and more Practice 😅
Hi VBP,
Haha, there’s no “secret” per se; it is basically just a question of sitting down with the manual and running through a couple of flights, to get acquainted with the aircraft etc.
@IntoTheBlueSimulations Thanks for the comprehensive reply! 👍🏼
when is it expected to be relidsed
do you remember which filters you used for the image?
Hi TSM,
For the thumbnail, or for the sim footage? I don’t use any filters for the sim although, I do adjust some of the external shots during editing (adding a little bit of contrast and vignette). Most of the visual “improvements”, come from being very selective with in-sim lighting / weather (both make a huge difference to visual fidelity).
I hope that clarifies things a little? All the best : )
Airplane looks nice in that camo livery.
My favourite look for the Tornado! : )
Do you have that flight plan availble to download sir?
If you don't get the drag of the stores do you get the weight?
Hi Philip,
Yes, I’m pretty sure you do get the weight (the aircraft squats down on the gear, as you load it up).
I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best : )
Another interesting review.... Thank you for all your time and effort....It really does make a difference.... Roger... Pembrokeshire..
Super, Roger - I’m glad you enjoyed the video / found it useful!
An absolute pleasure once again. Cheers : )
Well sadly so much potential but lack of sounds internally and externally
First off, thank you for your superb videos. Just bought this beauty and was wondering if you know if it is possible to deploy the arrestor hook for carrier landings? Can't seem to find how. Same for the launch bar. Is it modelled? Love this aircraft.
Hello Michel,
Thanks very much for the kind words - I’m really glad you’re enjoying the content!
Graphics are really good.
I guess I've never noticed on the Tornado before but those mains look tiny.
Beautiful video.I buy today’s but i have problems with configuration..
Thanks Indrit, I’m glad you enjoyed the flight! What problems have you been having? : )
All the best!
is the wingman behaviour there realistic? i mean, following through roles and stuff...
looks amazing!
Hi Siddich,
If you’d like to see a little bit more detail regarding Airshow Assistant, this video should help: ruclips.net/video/fBH6hwH4qZk/видео.htmlsi=cr5Eduxa1aaqexK
Airshow Assistant is a great little program overall : )
Great video, how do I get the after burners on, are there switches to select
Many thanks, Jonathan!
To engage the afterburners, you either need to set up a hardware keybind, or set up your throttle axis, such that max throttle is tied to said keybind. I’m afraid it’s a little bit tricky to explain here but, I believe there are tutorials available online.
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
I’ve been enjoying it since day one release, they certainly seem to have done the Tornado justice. That said I’d agree the startup sounds are less than ideal.
What's the black handle below the throttle levers
Apologies for the slow reply, Robert. Apparently, the unit in question allows the pilot to slew the boresight (when in the appropriate mode); looking at the unit, it essentially looks like a thumb-operated, track-ball mouse.
I hope that helps. All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations thank you for the info
You’re most welcome! : )
What type of Anti Aliasing do you use iTB? Thanks!
Hi Parker,
I use TAA : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
hello great video, which program do you use to make your thumnails, they look really good
Hi IceMan,
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! For my thumbnails, I use “Paint.net”; it’s a freeware program that (given that my thumbnails aren’t particularly complex) does everything that I need it to do : )
I hope that helps. All the best!
That thing is way overpowered...no way doing 420kts with 84% Power...
Hi Christian,
It might also be a bit of a “gauge error” - the gauges seem to sit at around 84%, throughout a wide range of EGT / TIT values. . .
All the best : )
Well presented as always. Five ⭐ review
Thank you very much, AM! Much appreciated and I’m really glad you enjoyed it : )
is this Tornado a mod or like a DLC which you have to buy?
Hi Pat,
The addon is a payware DLC, created by India Foxt Echo (and available from various websites).
I hope that helps. All the best!
Mines broken when I turn it flips out and stalls
Hi SCTV,
Does this happen during any turn, or at low speeds / under high g? If it’s that latter, I suspect that’s a purposely programmed effect of the flight model (to what degree it’s accurate, I have no idea) - most non-FBW jets still require careful energy management. If it’s the former, make sure you have MSFS’ flight model set to “Modern” and not “Legacy”.
Hopefully that’s of some help? All the best : )
When is it being released?
Superb!
Many thanks, CP! Glad you enjoyed it : )
What software is this?
Hi Duane,
It’s the India Foxt Techo Tornado IDS, in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I hope that clarifies things. All the best!
Is it out yet?!
Is there a GR4 planned?
Probably difficult to get any working data on TARDIS now that there's no operational units
Not to my knowledge, Ade; I believe Just Flight’s Tornado will be a GR1 also.
All the best!
The reverse thrust is missing the whiny hydraulic sound like the real thing in external view.
Thanks very much for the info re wing sweep / loadout, Stuart - certainly makes sense potentially.
Much appreciated! All the best : )
Good video thanks. I flew the older x plane version in vr. This is way better.
After the dismal f-111 ! I'll wait for other aircraft
Dismal? I find the F-111 pretty fun to fly
Ah well, that’s a shame, Mark; I purchased the F-111 recently and I haven’t had a chance to try it yet haha (but am planning on reviewing it at some point).
All the best!
This video is slightly out of focus. Low res?
Hi Khold,
I think it’s just the bitrate, video processing and RUclips compression all taking their toll.
You can clearly see this when looking from the side.
no, it isn’t.
Takeoff at 24.00
Wibble! 😉
ynow what we are waiting for JustFlight PA-38 Tomahawk for MSFS ynow you want to review it lol and of course this was a good video on the Tornado
Haha, there will no doubt be a review of the PA-38 at some point, Mike; as usual, I’m playing catch-up haha ; )
I’m glad you enjoyed the Tonka vid.

Ah right, thanks for the info! : )
If you put those wings back like that, you would’ve sunk the back of the plane and be doing a wheelie, quite an expensive mistake 😊
Seen it happen fortunately the tank racking stopped the wheelie but the port wing required some TLC

...at least in my relatively uneducated opinion... :-D yeah...of course

Custom maps are not possible in MSFS.
I believe they are, Vlxxrd; Iris Simulations managed to include (some) real-world custom mapping with their PC-21?
@@IntotheBlueSimulations they are possible, yes. as individual regions. they only did australia, and if you want more than that, you’d have to do it yourself. you can’t have custom maps on a global scale, that’s why everyone resorts to the default.
Ahh, that makes sense then. I wasn’t expecting global mapping; Sim Skunk Works used to offer (as a separate download) custom maps for the UK, Italy and Germany (obviously, the biggest users of the Tornado) - I thought that would be a nice option for IFE to include also : )
Mfs scenery looks loads better than Dcs. Its almost photo realiatic. Is what im saying what you lot have experienced? I use Vr i assume it looks the same
