Thanks for the good summary. Hoping that they'll release a dual motor with less power as 544 ps is excessive for a family car. And expensive to tax! Secondly I find it strange that it offers two things that outdo the more expensive P3 big brother: photo chromatic glass roof and bigger 500 l trunk!
Thanks David! I think the 272hp single motor will be the most popular version in the EU for sure. As for the tech, I think the P4 thanks that to it's 'brother' Zeekr 001 carrying a lot of cool gadgets being also a SEA platform car. Whilst the P3 is a SPA2 platform so perhaps still in development/missing the 'cool' SEA platform options. Thanks for watching!!
Thom, thank you. This week I watched a handful of RUclips videos covering the P2 launch. Your presentation style, keen observations and opinions are excellent. Ive been waiting for several months for the MY24 P2 to become available to order (US market). Upon seeing the P4 I may pivot, it is clearly more advanced over the P2, even if P4 delivery is a year away. I'm OK with the much talked about lack of rear window. The Lotus Exige S and some other sports cars lack a direct rear view, its something you adjust to. And the P4's rear view mirror appears to provide an excellent wide screen view, actually better than any car's interior mounted mirror. Given the size and features I think P4 pricing will be competitive. I spent time in a Model Y and I think the P4 fits into a different & elevated market segment. The soon to arrive Macan EV is probably a closer comp. The EV market is evolving quickly with options from many OEMs. Personally I like Polestar's positioning, especially its Scandinavian design ethos. Can't wait to see and drive a P4!
I can't decide if I like this exterior design from the profile as it looks like a traditional sedan/saloon that is sitting too high...but from certain angles I like it. Cannot wait to see one of these in person!
Same here, I love the front, but the general lines/design remind me of that electric Jaguar which is a bit meh. But I really think you need to see this one in person to understand the proportions and design. Thanks again for watching!! :-)
Honestly really looking forward to this for the U.S. as more and more EVs hit the road. I have seen quite a bit of Polestars popping up out here and we have a dealership in La Jolla. I may leave Lexus for Polestar since the RZ just does not sell it for me with the price. I think you said it but does the P4 have a frunk? Thank you again for in depth info.
I hope it has better headroom in the back than the polestar 2: I couldn't get one as my son was too tall for it; if they had a wagon model it'd have been perfect
Thom, thanks. To me this is a Polestar reskin of the Zeekr001. I've never seen a Zeekr001? Have you? That's why it has frameless doors, no smart zone, and inside a horizontal screen and the seats don't look like Volvo seats because they're Zeekr seats. It's the first car not shared on a Volvo platform and with Volvo but is shared with a CEVT car. So, it makes this a different car for me. It looks like a Polestar but it is not like the others. As a Volvo enthusiast, I prefer Polestars that share with Volvo. It looks like a high, large sedan to me, not like an SUV. The shape is an attractive sedan. The price, not sure either. It's pretty close to what I expected but will get expensive with the packs. I don't like the lack of a back window. This is potentially Polestar's biggest seller and I hope it is dynamic and reliable. It may define Polestar for many.
I had exactly the same thought as for the looks and the 001, feels familiar in many aspects. Let's wait and see when it arrives on the road. Thanks again for watching, appreciated!
Not yet as you say, 2.8 is a non OTA update, so I need to visit the dealership to get the update installed. 😊 As for the vibrations also no update yet, sadly.. to be continued 😄
Looks nice from the front but not having a rear window I think is a safety issue. As when following enclosed vans without having that rear window vehicles behind will not be able to see through this Volvo and will not get advance warning when vehicles in front start to brake - not every car behind will have autonomous braking. Plus the fact it's a family car so why no rear window?
Interesting point! Polestar's CEO think many car brands will follow their example having no rear window, I kinda hope they won't... But before really judging I simply need to test drive one and find out. Thanks for watching!!
I'm not sure I understand this argument about safety. There are plenty of vehicles which do not allow you to see through them: lorries, buses, vans, cars with tinted rear windows or luggage up to the roof etc. The safe way of driving is surely to leave an adequate distance to the vehicle in front? The point about pets is an interesting one though. We put our dog on the back seat
@@davids4696 That is what I said - when following enclosed vans you cannot see ahead so making family cars without a back window is stupid. That is why they invented the high-level brake light to prevent rear-end shunts which you can often see by looking through the back window of the car in front. Of course the safe way is to leave adequate distance but too many drivers tail-gate far too close even at motorway speeds!
I don't think C40 has much in the way of rear window already- going fully windowless means they can provide a better substitute. What would be good here if we had a standard for rear cameras and radar *through* rear bike carriers, trailers etc. this would be a significant improvement over anything we have today.
I think 60k sounds really expensive. I love the design but I'm expecting this to not sell very well against the Model Y. What a shame they priced it so high. Even against your C40 and the XC40 it seems out there in left field price wise. OH well, I won't be buying this. Thanks for the info Thom!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Kevin! For sure 60k is a lot of money for a car. On the other hand if you compare that to other prices from the same group (Volvo/Polestar) it looks sort of competitive. Though I think especially in the US the Model Y will win this over the 4 (sadly). In Europe I think the 4 might be a succes, especially for business (leasing) drivers. Let's wait and see, though, I am looking forward seeing one in person. Thanks again! 😊
@@thom-lov Here in Canada a XC40 AWD Recharge is 70k with the big first middle package. An AWD Model Y is 70k. Polestar 2 AWD starts at 66k. And the Polestar 4 RWD is going to start at 70-75k CAD. Hummm. As you said, we’ll see but to me it sounds like it’s going to get a cold welcome. A shame because it’s a sharp design.

Think so too, based on the same SEA platform. We will see more and more shared tech between all Geely brands. The next Volvo will also be SEA based and most likely very close to the Zeekr X.

Thom any update on the 2.8 software for the XC40/C40? I have the XC40 with the steering vibration at ~104kmh. It's not an OTA update btw.

Do you know if Polestar 4 contains CPD (child presence detection) like Polestar 3 does?

They always targeted the Porsche Macan for the price of the Polestar 4. They aren't really thinking of the Model Y so much.

Is this a Volvo product? Or is it a different company? What companies will sell this brand Polestar?
Polestar was spun off from Volvo. It is similar to Volvo and they share a lot but Polestar is its own brand.
