I’ve had mine for a while now (EX30 twin motor performance ultra). Drives wonderfully, the performance is unparalleled in this price range, and the design is just beautiful inside and out. Also been super happy with the software, finding it far easier to use than the model 3 we test drove a couple of times (especially the climate control UI).

Speaking as an owner, this is a very accurate and perceptive review.
    A few comments:
    1. The Plus also has the black roof and mirrors, and the Harmon Kardon system.
    2. The MY25 rear logo is lower down than the area you pointed out.
    3. The USA Plus also has the glass roof.
    4. In the UK the 20" wheels are standard and other interiors (and paint colours) are No Cost Options.
    5. Prices have gone up in the UK for MY25 cars.
    6. No need for driver display or HUD - you very quickly get used to the speedo readout and I'm tempted to say I prefer it, certainly to a conventional circular needle dial where you have to "work out" what speed you're doing.
    7. The hardware is very well designed and built but the software still needs MUCH more development.

Have had our ex30 twin ultra for a little while, it came with version 1.4. Have covered 429.9 miles and averaging 31.7kWh/100 (in the ex30 app), so am happy.
Like many ‘fast’ accelerating EVs, it can out-accelerate its brakes, and has large disc brakes all around. Faster to accelerate than decelerate.
The acceleration is linear and instant (torque). So different to ICE performance cars…
The update I am waiting for is the ability to lock and unlock from my phone, and not the ex30 app.
I used a sharpie on the Harmon Kardon logo to reduce the reflection…
Great car. Great brand. Great build quality.

Love my EX30. Great fun car to drive. I'm getting around 350km in motorways driving at 115 - 120kmph and some occasional 140+ for overtaking. I started to love traffic blocks as I'm getting really good mileage in city traffic, atleast 400km. I'm now used to screen and not having the buttons. Since the voice commands are based on Google, it is so much better than Tesla's. You can control the AC and many others with voice commands. Since the car is boxy, there is surprisingly good space inside a car. So I would say the car is best for you if you are couple without kids or with small kids

@@RR-ht9dbI have the single motor extended range Plus model. If you have extra budget you can go for the ultra. But most of the features are available in Plus. The only feature I absolutely miss is the power seats.
I bought the car after the latest software update, so I hadnt faced any issues told in many review videos. If I have to nitpick I would say I dont like the car keys that much, but I hear they are going to bring keys into apple wallet. So hopefully it will improve.

Lovely insight as usual, always good to see you talk about Volvos :) Thom, do you perhaps know, since the EX30 shares that SEA platform with the Zeekr X, which has V2L... considering the platform is the same... do you think it's possible an OTA update could add V2L functionality... with an adapter cable naturally? Or are there other hardware limitations? Perhaps some of the Volvo guys you've spoken to have talked about this.
Regardless, thanks so much for the videos - I hope to one day have an EX30 ;D ... I also hope they fix the one-pedal driving for the performance setting on the twin motor :P

Bedankt, Thom! Really nice review. I've been to the introduction here in the Netherlands a while ago, but wasn't convinced yet. They now have a discount here on stock cars if you use the Care by Volvo car subscription (private short lease), so I decided to order a black EX30 in Ultra trim yesterday. It's going to be delivered in 3-4 weeks. Looking forward to it! I drove a (almost) new DS 3 for the last half year, but got annoyed by the terrible multimedia system, so I sure hope they solve the software issues in the EX30.

Good review and it's good to know the software is improved. I drove one a couple of months ago as I was considering swapping my S60 for one but I found that the lane keeping did not work well, the interior noise levels were relatively high and I found the UI frustrating. After driving the EX30, my S60 felt a lot higher quality - noise levels measured quieter (same speed/same road,) the lane keeping assist works and I have a nice set of instruments and buttons to monitor and control the car easily. The sound system is also way better in the S60. So, I liked the EX30 a lot but too many compromises for me at the moment. The final deal breaker for me is that the EX30 is made in on the other side of the planet. I would prefer to buy a new EV made locally (EU) to reduce the impact of shipping.

Nice video. The Ultra spec in the UK has a few more options as standard. For example, the 20 inch wheels as shown in your video plus privacy glass for the rear windows. The winter pack you mentioned is also included. I have a twin motor version in Cloud Blue and Breeze interior. Really enjoying the car after downsizing from a Tesla Model Y Performance. I agree that more software updates will be needed in order to get 'phone as a key' and Apple Car Play/Android Auto, for example. We have the 'EX30 plus extend range' since the end of april. In may and june we went with the EX30 and Sprite caravan (6m and 1200kg max) for almost six weeks to France. A better caravan tower we did never have, but of course you do have to recharge often: the range was about 200 km with speed 85/90 km, witch means after 150 km you are looking for a charging point. Was no problem at all. Oké I know, we are pensionados and have a lot of time. So instead of in two days with the Volvo V40 Sport, now in three days with the EX30 to the Provence. Starting in the morning between 09.00 and 10.00 and looking for a camping around 16.00, witch means around 350 km per day. It was exactly we hoped for starting this 'adventure' ;-) If you have only two or three weeks, it's of course an other story, also recharging in France will be a little more difficult I presume. Fastned is perfect with car and caravan, at other stations you often need to separate car and caravan, and then you need a little more space then is abounded before the holiday season starts I think, but this goes for every EV.

I set my 'favorite' button on the steering wheel to toggle between one-pedel and coast. Our previous (and still have) car is a VW Lupo 3L; the coasting capability in it is amazing, but since we have a pre-paid plan for charging our EX30 I'm not so worried about re-gen breaking - but it is nice to engage it in city traffic.

One question - is it possible to turn off ALL safety systems, including auto-braking? Reason is in my country, the road conditions would constantly cause the vehicle to apply emergency brakes! Had this on cars before and was able to switch it off. Would be great to know this..Thanks :)

I've never had a heads-up display before, (previous/2nd car is still a VW Lupo 3L - love it) but I don't think it's lacking in the EX30; I actually like the speed read-out at the top of the center screen as human eyes have peripheral vision to the sides, not up or down. This placement means you can still maintain eye contact with the road while glancing right instead of glancing down (as in previous car layouts).

Having had my first experience with a MY24 car and the speed warning, I really don’t understand why people keep moaning about it. At least on my car it beeps 2 times and very discreet if you drive over the speed, but only 2 times, not the whole time you drive too fast, further it starts to beep at about 3kph over the limit according to the Speedo, which is in most cases the true GPS speed. So all in all it was no annoyance at all for me. 🤷‍♂️

I picked up my EX30 single motor last Friday (12.7.24) and during the handover, they weren’t able to connect the in car WiFi. After going back and forth into the workshop for reboots, contacting Volvo Sweden etc the upshot is that they couldn’t fix it. I’m now driving a pool car and my new car is still at Volvo. Not the best first experience with Volvo. I’ve still no idea when I will finally get my new car home.

Bit of a strange review, as you've already done it (as have many others). Honest opinion, having owned one for nearly four months, I wish I'd bought something else. Max range about 320km in practice.
It looks to me as if you've sold out to Volvo, so I'm going to unsubscribe.

What would you buy? I’m almost convinced to get the EX30, so would be happy to hear your thoughts on alternatives to check out. Thanks!

Well, lucky for you there are lots of other cars on the market out there 🙂 "This guy won't buy it" seems a bit fortune-telling for the remaining guys on the planet; have you seen how fast it goes from 0 to 60 (100 Kmh)?! The way this car moves me ahead of questionable traffic situations is incredible.

@@graafisk fair, however the endless software bugs in the 2024 model are frankly a joke. It won't open the doors 10% of the time on approach, and don't bother coaching me on how to open the door on the thing, like the dealer has...lol. Software...its my wife's car. Me I just purchased a quicker EV...South Korean, not Kia. See you on the open road...in my dust...haha
