So this is a new series, Starting off at the very basics. Let me know what you guys think. Yes we could start off with a much more exciting episode but the idea is to create a playlist with lessons and exercises that will train and help people improve their flying up to the level where the can compete in a race. Love to know your thoughts. Stew. EDIT it won't replace any of the other videos, just extra content aimed at helping people enjoy the hobby. happy flying
very good idea bro, this is exactly what i need, bcause iam a very new pilot and i want&need tipps from a pro like you stew. Thank you also very much for your good reviews they helped me a lot. Best regards and have a very nice day ( regards from germany)
Since I was not born with this knowledge, I appreciate your approach in this series! I have already mastered many skills, but it doesn't hurt to re-visit the fundamentals from time to time! Thanks for all you do!
Hovering was how I started as well. If you get too cocky and go too fast you'll get into trouble, so take your time. I tried to buzz around and turn around ... on my first flight ever. Before I knew how to turn in acro. Took a week for the prop cuts to heal. And yes, this being my first race drone, I couldn't help but blip the power...
Hi Stu, Whatever the other guys say, nothing is perfect. And nothing will ever be. Personaly, I'm excited to seeing the rest of the lessons you're proposing. No one is offering something like this. Regards,
Sven Fribus Yeah, make sure everyone knows they should start on a little eo10, then a tiny whoop or sim. Honestly, most of the bad drone PR here in the states is from newbies with phantoms. My friend saw someone (assuming it was a first flight by flying style) crash a model plane over a major road a while ago. Luckily, it didn't actually hit a car or the road, but still.
I can't agree, that its a best start for a beginner, is to fly a tiny whoop. I think, you can start with a 5 inch. You have in US also a bad PR against drones?:)) In germany the same. The major problem are not the guys with DJI products (i have one :))... the most dangerous thing for the drone pilots out there, are newbes, who buy a cheap quad in supermarket and make bad stuff with it. Cause usually, a person which is old enough and have some brainmass, will inform himself before buy or build a drone. If you are silly, and do not know the law in your country, the danger which can come from a drone... so better dont buy one. Their is a german website, where you can post good deals. Their was a guy, who talks about a tiny whoop with 15 A Allinone ESC on his quad... and that he flew with it on 4S.... and he also recomended it to all the others. I also live in the near of 2 Airports and their are always news about drones, which flies in the restriction zone (5 km around the airport). I hope, that the zone do not become bigger, cause I have a great park here (15 km from airport), where I smash my lipos. :) But I think, that cause of the fast growing interess to fly a drone... and this cheap crap from supermarkets.... it will become harder to enjoy this hobby.
Sven Fribus Yes, it is quite possible to start with a five inch, and I myself got one before a whoop, but I still think a whoop is safer to start with. What I meant with the DJI products is that they are quite popular, and absolutely great drones, but with them being so easy to get, and as you said, the interest, many newbies are starting with them because they are cool, but they have no idea how or where to fly them and crash them in very populated areas. As long as you have a bit of drone knowledge, DJIs can be great. Its just the people with no knowledge that can make drones seem "evil" if you will. Its not the DJI products, its the people that buy them.
I have a disagree, about the "easy way to obtain a DJI product". In compair with a ready to fly quad from supermarket for 20-30 bucks, or a ready to fly quad from china, the DJI products are more expensive. Usually a person who spend a lot of money (DJI products cost more then 400 dollars), is more patient with his doing that a person who spend 20 to 200 dollar. I know, i know... their are always exeptions of this rule.... you can see a lot of them on youtube. :) Jerks can also have money to spend. :) And this is the scary part of this whole story: The state will not ignore this evolution of brainless handling with drones and will change the law.... (i think in US is the same like in europe)... it is always a big drawback for the community, when the state tries to do something by changing the law. I think about to purchase a tiny whoop to fly indoor (when the winter comes), but my living room is not big enough to obtain a joy of it. :) ... and by the way... cant still figure it out, why tinys cost as much as big 5 inch brothers. :/
Yeah, I have a great house for whooping, and I agree, I'm not quite sure why whoops cost the amount they do compared to other quads. I think that most of the jerks with a lot of money live in the US, but yeah, they do cost more. I guess I meant phantom style quads, much of the time you see drone crashes on YT its the phantoms or phantom knockoffs.
I dunno I find it can be a bit difficult to fly LOS in acro mode. I have no problem with acro in fpv but for a beginner I think it would be wise to start in angle mode to get the feel of the quad first.
"beginner" modes are good for a first battery pack, then you want to play with it normally :P (i have only one hexa atm, and one mjx x101 without battery so i'm not very advanced...)
Thanks Stew! timing could not have been better! My Tx just arrived in the mail yesterday (Taranis Q X7S) and I ordered finally my first quad (same as in your vid, thanks for the recommendation and the coupon code!) a week or so ago. mucking about in sims for now but cant wait for the rest of the hardware to show up! Pretty stoked for the new hobby!
Thank god finally someone did this amazing helpful video how to start fpv racing drone thanks a lot looking forward to see another long video 😊or complete tutorial
G’day Stu, Thanks for the excellent tutorial! This will come in very handy soon because I’m almost done building my $99 build (with some upgrades)!!! Thank you for all the great work you do! And as always... happy flying!
I read some of the folks talking about additional info to add for the new pilot. This one is called hovering and that's what you do. The basics about drones and transmitters could be in another video perhaps lesson zero, Basic Understanding, but, if I remember correctly, you already have some videos that talk about flight modes or transmitter functions. You could just add them as Prep Lessons.
I would love to see more videos like this. It will help beginners like me get up to speed on controlling the our quads. I have been practicing in FPV mode but I developed the bad habits of angle mode. I noticed my goggles get distorted when i throttle up and move around a bit. Is that from my VTX or goggles or just to much interference ? my goggles are JJ pro vision with the eachine wizard vtx
I've been trying to get into this as much as I can and the one thing I haven't found yet (maybe I missed it) is a good video describing the differences and such of transmitters, receivers and the more specific differences with antennae and vtx for the fpv goggle as opposed to the tx/rx for the controller
Are you hovering with goggles on I found facing kwad towards me helps control drift but I've only been flying fpv for 2 months now and still spend a few mins every chance hovering and just simple forward and stop movements thanks for all the good info yours wast the first build video I watched and inspired me to build mine
Tattoorod FPV you mean hovering looking at yourself through the goggles I assume? Because after almost two years of drone experience, I still find it very difficult to fly LOS with the drone looking at me.
Great idea! This will really come in handy! My little brother want to get into FPV and I have been trying to teach him but sometimes I go to fast or I dont know what exactly to teach him. Thans again!
I so need these lessons. Thank you for doing these lessons. You may get sick of my questions - fair warning HAHAHA It's not like flying the DJI Spark that is for sure! And yes, perhaps some more basics on flight control and the various flight modes on the controller and how they impact the pilots ability to do various maneuvers.
Hi I'm so new to drones I baught eachine wizard x220s, I try to hovering but my drone doesn't take off do I have to set to air mode? I set to angle mode only
I am planning on getting the Bfight 210. With the BNF, what flysky reciever works best with the Flsky i6, the standard one? Is i AFHDS, or AFHDS 2A, or does it not matter? Thanks
James de Klerk personally, I don't think its a game changer, but I think that afds2a is best. For me, it relays some stuff like receiver power back to my fsi6
Hey Stu..im starting your tutorial in a min before i loose my last hoour of light or get eaten by mozzies, question should i wear the hdzero i have never flown with them ? goin out now on my 1st home made foxwhoop..lol crammed a speedyb f7mini stack and1s snail in it with 850mah 2s..chat sometime ,have a great night you awesome person..and thanx 4 the vids,ox!
Deer Stew I have a question I'm new to this I got my radio receiver hooked up I got my drone hooked up but as I'm about to take my drone off I I noticed that my drone tends to trim off to the right or the left doesn't stay study is there any way that you can help us improve on you know the trimming or how to do the trimming I did the reconfigurations and betaflight if so that would be a great help
Fadrick Jim As long as you can get the arms, replaceable is going to be better, because you WILL break them. The only thing is solid may be just a tad lighter, but not by much.
Nice idea for a series. Just a suggestion maybe you can include a start with angle mode and low rate for those really new pilots as it seems you are catering to as well.
So glad your doing this. I've been using other vids but I feel like it's a friend teaching me now. Hope that's not wierd seeing as we have never met and I'm a world away.
Hey Stew, you should probably state that this does not cater to first timer but someone that has learnt what flight modes there are and even how to arm and disarm a drone and all that jaz! Looking forward to the advanced course flying vids:) Cheers
I’ have a uvify draco Hd and like I can get it to hover then it drifts off a bit and I dunno how to use the other stick to keep it in place lmaooo Im such a newb , this series should help me ?
Theres an app for phones that helped me alot. Its called fpv freerider. You can actually connect goggles and a controller to your phone and fly around on the simulator. It works without the goggles or controllers too. There is a pc version aswell but ita kinda nice doing it without a computer.
Thanks Stu!...my Emax buzz 4s should be in tomorrow so I can’t wait to start flying FPV...I fly several different models of DJI for work (which I know is cheating compared to this), but just started into FPV as a personal hobby. Thanks again for all the videos! Cheers
His Taranis is pink and he added a rubber case on it and that's it ;) I also thaugt about black rubber case for my Taranis but I quite like its green colour ;)
Whatever ;) pink purple colours fly the same ;) (of course radio don't fly if Ya want to stick to this;) You can also stick to what I said that the case is rubber but in fact it is silicone ;) Stew gave a nice link to his upgradin Taranis - it's very useful. Greetz aaaaand happy flyin ;)
gidday mate....... thanks for the great lessons!! .......i have difficulty flying with my goggles. do you have any suggestions for how I can learn? This is a new hobby for me!
You can try activating airmode. But please deactivate it before you try to land on the ground because it will bounce off otherwise. Or you could just disarm your quad 10 cm above the ground when landing.
So what happened to the playlist Stu ?? Can't wait to see more..... This is the type of content that we beginners just can't find enough of in the community. Keep em coming bro !! :)
I thought about this, But I want to show people in real life, I want these to be actually exercises people go out and try with their drone. things will be much more exciting when we actually jump into fpv.
UAVfutures that's cool, I spent like month with simulator because my transmitter came first. But I was disoriented when I tried it in real life but after 2 lipos it was good :)
I did that, and honestly I would not recommend Freerider. Freerider is very FPV oriented, and I wanted to get acceptable at LOS first. The fact that FPV is not legal at my place don't help building confidence to try it much neither. I bought heli-x and used it to learn my hover for a few days, and then moved to LOS on the field. The feel is a bit off, but the reaction training really made me get better.
Day 2 hovering and punch out... got away from me doing a punch dropped it on my shop bounced into back yard. Quad ok. Battery smashed pretty good. Next battery went a little slower.
So this is a new series, Starting off at the very basics. Let me know what you guys think. Yes we could start off with a much more exciting episode but the idea is to create a playlist with lessons and exercises that will train and help people improve their flying up to the level where the can compete in a race. Should be in a playlist for beginners. great content! keep it coming

Really looking forward to seeing more of these.
couldn't have had better timing on top of being a great idea. just took my revo f4 build on my bfight frame for a maiden yesterday!
UAVfutures loving this big time as I'm learning to unbrick a naze atm lollollollol, I'll be back online soon .....I hope.........:-) :-)
For anyone who plans to fly drones, the usefulness of these beginner's lessons can't be overstretched. They sure help. Thanks for the info!
My first quad will arrive soon. This uav futures flight school is a great idea!

Personaly, I'm excited to seeing the rest of the lessons you're proposing. No one is offering something like this.

Awesome. I love the fact that you're mixing it up a bit, not just reviews. Keep em coming!
This is what I need. Already subscribed and Patreon member, keep these noob videos coming. I'm learning a lot !

Finally getting to your projects :)
Thank you Stu. Been waiting for someone to out there training videos out
Hey Steward,
Just wondering what solder you use for your builds and/or what solder you would recommend in for soldering a pdb
Quick question from a newbie. Would the controller in the video be considered a left hand throttle?
Great idea, looking forward to the next lessons.... Thank you!
I've been trying to get into this as much as I can and the one thing I haven't found yet (maybe I missed it) is a good video describing the differences and such of transmitters, receivers and the more specific differences with antennae and vtx for the fpv goggle as opposed to the tx/rx for the controller
Thomas Bauer try googling it. Flitetest also has some great videos on that stuff.
Thanks a lot, I will check that out.
Teach me Split S Inverted Loop Twist plz
all in good time
This is great idea. Your channel is the best please keep continue with the lessons.
This was literally the first thing I did when I finished my first quad lol. Been flying rc for sometime now but not fpv. Built my first quad last week
Good clear instructions, nice work stu. Im sure this will help many on their way to solid flight. All the best matey.
Thanks stu. Just what I have been waiting for.
Are you hovering with goggles on I found facing kwad towards me helps control drift but I've only been flying fpv for 2 months now and still spend a few mins every chance hovering and just simple forward and stop movements thanks for all the good info yours wast the first build video I watched and inspired me to build mine

@uav good job man thanks for taking the time to do this for everyone you truly make a difference
Nice video Stew!! Do you recommend using a simulator to learn to fly without destroying the drone? If yes, which one do you think is the best?
Can't wait for more videos like this! I don't have a race/acro drone yet, but I will know some of your tips by the time I get a drone! Thanks
Nice one Stew can't wait to watch the next lesson it's just fun to see even for the more advanced pilot's 👍
Great idea and tutorial for beginners...
I so need these lessons. Thank you for doing these lessons. You may get sick of my questions - fair warning HAHAHA It's not like flying the DJI Spark that is for sure! ordered my first quad because of ur videos and now u are going to teach me how to fly it :) dbl bubble :)
Great plan with baby steps. In both ways.
I'm sure this will help a lot of noobies in the hobby like myself. Nice work stu. Looking forward for more.
That was Very Nice of you .lots of us are past that stage but i am not going to be selfish Teach I bet you are a teacher for day job at a school.
Deer Stew I have a question I'm new to this I got my radio receiver hooked up I got my drone hooked up but as I'm about to take my drone off I I noticed that my drone tends to trim off to the right or the left doesn't stay study is there any way that you can help us improve on you know the trimming or how to do the trimming I did the reconfigurations and betaflight if so that would be a great help
tie 19140 try moving your battery slightly to to the opposite side
yes! this will be a great series!
This is great for us beginner thank you very much stu :)
Hei Stew ! Which is better , replacement arms or solid bottom plate ? Which will fly better ? Cheers from borneo headhunter .
Fadrick Jim As long as you can get the arms, replaceable is going to be better, because you WILL break them. The only thing is solid may be just a tad lighter, but not by much.
is there a flight controller that have a hover mode on it ?
Nice idea for a series. Just a suggestion maybe you can include a start with angle mode and low rate for those really new pilots as it seems you are catering to as well.
So glad your doing this. I've been using other vids but I feel like it's a friend teaching me now. Hope that's not wierd seeing as we have never met and I'm a world away.
HDgodfrey I know! Its kinda odd, we know so much about all the vloggers and stuff on youtube, and they have never heard of us!
Awesome this is exactly what I wanted.. Thanks. Just a quick question which flight mode are you in?
This is meant to be done Line of Sight correct?
Are you in Acro, Horizen, Angle or other?
Start this hovering with acro mode?
Hey Stew, you should probably state that this does not cater to first timer but someone that has learnt what flight modes there are and even how to arm and disarm a drone and all that jaz!
Looking forward to the advanced course flying vids:)
Cheers
What QX7 wrap is that?
I really need this I have no clue. Thanks for my first lesson
Hey stew this video session will be really helpful for us thank you ❤️
I've never flown a drone before, would it be a bad idea to just learn off the bat in acro mode?
nice lesson, make more :) i have build wizard from your guide, and now i'm lerninig how to fly fpv.. :)
Thank you,was fun hard! God bless!
Onya Stu, would be a good idea to make these videos a bit longer. Those who actually care about learning will be happy to stick around.
Question: Should you be doing this with your FPV headset on or off?
I’ have a uvify draco Hd and like I can get it to hover then it drifts off a bit and I dunno how to use the other stick to keep it in place lmaooo Im such a newb , this series should help me ?
Keep up the beginner guides👍
Stick-cams are good -- Blackbox is much better if you can swing it!
Black box really is better.
Theres an app for phones that helped me alot. Its called fpv freerider. You can actually connect goggles and a controller to your phone and fly around on the simulator. It works without the goggles or controllers too. There is a pc version aswell but ita kinda nice doing it without a computer.
When come's part 2 of the furibee darkmax
flew it today....fastest yet we have clocked on the speed gun...ON 6S
Thanks Stu!...my Emax buzz 4s should be in tomorrow so I can’t wait to start flying FPV...I fly several different models of DJI for work (which I know is cheating compared to this), but just started into FPV as a personal hobby. Thanks again for all the videos! Cheers
Loving the color scheme of your radio. Is that a regular color, or did you painted it ?
His Taranis is pink and he added a rubber case on it and that's it ;) I also thaugt about black rubber case for my Taranis but I quite like its green colour ;)
ruclips.net/video/Ei7tfeAZaKk/видео.html&t
Pink? That's clearly purple..
Thanks Stew and everyone else!
I did missed that video...
gidday mate....... thanks for the great lessons!! .......i have difficulty flying with my goggles. do you have any suggestions for how I can learn? This is a new hobby for me!
Diego Ramos you could get a cheap tiny whoop, so when you crash it doesn't break much. Other than that, its just practice.
Jason FPV thanks so much I will try!!!!
No problem, happy flying!
Hey Stew it's a great idea to start this kind of series. Keep goin;) cheers
Tks bro... I need to learn IT
If i was to punch up with your 100$ budget build, after my throttle goes to 0 it just flips upside down, i do have a on top battery could that be why?
You can try activating airmode.
But please deactivate it before you try to land on the ground because it will bounce off otherwise. Or you could just disarm your quad 10 cm above the ground when landing.
Activate that the motors always spin
So what happened to the playlist Stu ?? Can't wait to see more..... This is the type of content that we beginners just can't find enough of in the community. Keep em coming bro !! :)
my first parts just arrived yesterday and now this 😍👌 stuuuu thanks
nice video stew!!
thanks just getting my wizard set up this will help
Safety first, failsafe checked ?
David FPV Much
Didn’t want to teach using the evolution? I’m half thinking of selling mine unless some good receiver comes out
yeah making the switch back, also in my best radio guide I put the qx7 at the top
Really nice ! :)
Bust best think to do is first use simulator like a Freerider
