Kate Bush is one of my most favourite singers of all time. Within Temptation is the equal in the band zone of my tastes. I almost died with happiness when I found this.
this is allmost spiritual to me. it gave me strength in high school. listening to it now still does. so saddened by these comments saying this version is not the best one (while after carefully listening to the other 2 this clearly is the best). noone may talk down on the song that helped me find my inner strength to deal with society D:
I think I'm in the minority when I say this is my favorite cover. I liked Placebo's but it just got old. I still listen to early WT; I don't really care too much for their newer stuff, though I'm glad they're still a band. =)
I love Within Temptation, but when it comes to this song, Kate Bush is and always be the singer for it. Kate has a voice and idea of her own which she put into her songs. This song is about a man and a woman having that old conversation "you wanna be in my shoes for a day!"
Fell in love with this song because of this band. I don't like any of the other covers. For years I thought Placebo did the song originally only to hear this and think they were doing a Placebo cover. Finally found the Kate Bush original... still love this band's version the best. But I love this song actually and am amazed at how many people have covered it. There's a EDM/dubstep version that's not that bad.
No matter who sings it, Running Up That Hill is about a lover WANTING to make a deal with God to "swap [their] places", i.e., switch them around so that she's him and he's her.
This cover has nothing on Kate Bush. Zero...ziltch.. nada.. nix.. nothing. Period. They do it well, but its miles from the atmosphere of the original and the pure genius of it. They are trying, but ultimately fall flat on this one. Sadly.
I've heard this version before Placebo's and the original. I really loved it, and now when I've heard another versions, I love them all! This is just a great song and no matter who plays it :)
Oh, and this video introduced me to the Gregorian version of Running Up That Hill. Now that's a beautiful version with male vocals. Now I have three versions I love. So thanks for mentioning it.
I like this version very much. If you see a version that you didn't liked... its ok to have different tastes, just remember that the band you're defending (not sure from what tho) just got honored with a version of one of their tracks. I think that making a deal with another artist to make a version of their song is as making a very nice compliment to them.
I actually like this version, I love Placebo and WT's equally. Placebo makes it feel deep while WT makes it feel magical...If you hate the video, then don't watch it
I admit, I've never heard the other versions of this song and quite frankly I'm not even interested in hearing them, I like this song and for me it's great.
Kate Bush's original was someone trying to make deals with God. Placebo's cover was someone who gave up on God and was cutting deals with the Devil. Within Temptation's version is someone taking the third option and riding out to fight, despite the wishes of Heaven or Hell.
I agree with you, on this. I think this song is more fitting ballad-esque (kind of how Placebo did their version) And Sharon has shown that she can do that style of singing. This was just a little to... rough, for my liking.
Bush's original has very low-key instrumentation (by 80's standards), foregrounding her voice. It sounds a lot like her song "Lily," which explicitly invokes the archangels in the chorus. Placebo's has the keyboard part played in a minor key, & slows the drums to an ominous heartbeat that almost overshadows the lyrics, giving it a claustrophobic and ominous vibe. WT's is VERY high-energy and aggressive; loud guitars and drums, den Adel's vocals almost defiant and angry.
I like this song more than the original.. the one of placebo is a little bit boring and I dont care if everyone hates me but this song has the type of music I like, Within Temptation is the best!!!
So many people hung up on how this compares to other covers! When I initially heard this a couple of years ago I hated it: now I realise it's not a bad cover at all, it's just that I prefer Bush's sense of vulnerability in the original.
Oh god it was so so so, close to what I wanted to find Bush covers. It's over done - no space - the switching back in forth between the way her voice was recored and the wierdo overlaying of texture sounds KILL this beyond dead. Do they have any standout tracks that are not horribly mixed?
I like the track and field version so much better. This is still one of the better versions, but I do wish she was remotely in pitch. If she was, this'd be so much better.
this version of the song is great!!! i liked the original by kate bush too but couldn't possibly stand what placebo did with it ... still, i think WT 's the best ... so much more powerful XD
I think Within Temptation did okay with Kate Bush's song. But all in all no one can compare to the original. I have to say though that Placebo's version makes it deeper and more meaningful.
yes...Allronix gives a nice interpretation though...music is what it makes you feel...see...think...it's all individual. no one can be wrong expressing his/her personal emotions about music...
@SidheRockz I have many lives. Too many. And too little peace. And yes, semantics is a nice hobby, too... a way to perfect and shape one's perfection. Words, deeds... even emotions and thoughts. And thank you for the comment...
Kate Bush is one of my most favourite singers of all time. Within Temptation is the equal in the band zone of my tastes. I almost died with happiness when I found this.
I dont listen to this type of music but wow what a awesome take on the song and she nails the vocals in her own way, freaking sweet!
You wouldn't think a symphonic metal remake of this song would work, yet somehow WT MADE it work. Mad skillz right there.

Mortophobe Not every song ever written and sung will mean something to someone. But what matters is what it means to you.
I think I'm in the minority when I say this is my favorite cover. I liked Placebo's but it just got old. I still listen to early WT; I don't really care too much for their newer stuff, though I'm glad they're still a band. =)
Oh My God. I'm am stunned. One of the BEST versions I've EVER heard!
I love Within Temptation, but when it comes to this song, Kate Bush is and always be the singer for it. Kate has a voice and idea of her own which she put into her songs. This song is about a man and a woman having that old conversation "you wanna be in my shoes for a day!"
This is her best vocal performance ever.
Fell in love with this song because of this band. I don't like any of the other covers. This band is my favorite band of this era!!!
No matter who sings it, Running Up That Hill is about a lover WANTING to make a deal with God to "swap [their] places", i.e., switch them around so that she's him and he's her.
i've loved this song since i was 12. i'm 19 now and i still come back to this song \m/
The best cover Ever! I loveee so much! *m*
You can't compare, they are different songs, different styles. Personally I love both of em
I think this is the best version of this song I've heard so far.. Great job
Gioia Imosm Never heard the original eh? Its decent, but even the Placebo cover is better.
So thanks for mentioning it.
i have to admit this song....is the best cover!!EVER!!
Nailing Kate Bush's vocals.
I didn't know this was a cover. This song is the reason I am a fan.
This song is so passionate. I love Sharon's voice so much. D: Find it hard not to belt out this song when playing it.
The best version od this song and my personal favourite of WT - an awesome cover :)
This is the only song that can make me cry everytime I hear it
I like this version very much. If you see a version that you didn't liked... its ok to have different tastes, just remember that the band you're defending (not sure from what tho) just got honored with a version of one of their tracks. Any version of this song is amazing
this song is the best of all their songs
The words may be the same, but it's all in **how** you say it - tone, inflection, mood.
The Divine and that which it has disowned will never swap places.
"If you like the original song better, than [sic] listen to it."
I do. Proudly. I just wanted to see if this was halfway decent.
Best Cover of that song....
This cover is just amazing!
am I really the only one who likes this version just as much as the other two by Placebo and Kate Bush?
This is the very passionate version. :3 Very. I love this.
this is a good song the lyrics are amazing. all 3 versions are really good still like placebos the best
I love this version
That just fucking gave me shivers throughout the whole song.. I'm proud that my Holland was able to produce such talents.
I miss this within temptation ;(
Awesome vid, amazing song...
Epic song is epic
NOTHING compares to Kate's original MASTERPIECE!
I love Kate's original of this song, but this version is freakin' awesome too!
My 3 favourite versions of Running up that hill:
1) Kate Bush (The original)
2) Within Tempation
3) Placebo
I actually like this version, I love Placebo and WT's equally. Placebo makes it feel deep while WT makes it feel magical...If you hate the video, then don't watch it
I admit, I've never heard the other versions of this song and quite frankly I'm not even interested in hearing them, I like this song and for me it's great.
THE BEST COVER EVER
Am I the only one who thinks, so THIS is what the Weeping Angels get up to when no one is looking.
+Beggar42 Omg yes
this is one of their best ;)
Nice version of a classic
Love Kate and WT
grew up on kate bush, love placebo and within temptation guess they have good taste in music also lol
Love this version! And love Sharon too ;) Soooooo hot and talented!!
wow! the singer is soo beautiful :O
this could fill your energy tank, cover or not, its a cool way to play that song
so much true....
Love this song.
And the video is very nice. ^-^
Incredible!
I just love the beginning T_T
Original Version is from Kate Bush ^^
This one really rocks ^^
\m/
best version she is so good here
I can't decide which cover I like better. But I think I'm leaning a little more to this one, though I adore Placebo's.
Love this version...the best "deal" looking (down) on the competition. lol
(I definitely see Weeping Angels everywhere... haha ^^) Anyway, great cover! Thanks for uploading it!
Hmm... the beginning is perfect!!
whole cover is ok too
Have you ever hummed a tune or sang along to a song playing on the radio? Now imagine that you have a studio and a crew to do it with....
Kate Bush's original was someone trying to make deals with God. Placebo's cover was someone who gave up on God and was cutting deals with the Devil. Within Temptation's version is someone taking the third option and riding out to fight, despite the wishes of Heaven or Hell.
I'm the biggest Kate Bush fan ever, but I do love this cover. Still not as good as Kate, but who is that good? Well done to them!
beautifol girl and music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love it !
not a within temptation - fan...but I think she nailed that song...
I agree with you, on this. I think this song is more fitting ballad-esque (kind of how Placebo did their version) And Sharon has shown that she can do that style of singing. This was just a little to... rough, for my liking.
I still love this version the best. Probably because I'm not quite into Pop >.>
Awesome.
Son diferentes estilos, pero igual es buena, por que ambas son congruentes con las bandas que los interpretan, a mi me gustan ambas versiones!!!!
Dette er den verste cover jeg noensinne har hørt i mitt liv.
Very special, but not bad either! I like all three versions too. Placebo's my favourite though.
Don't know how but this song helped me return from breakdown ;)
Kate Bush's original is unbeatable
Nice cover full of folk metal :D
I like this song more than the original.. the one of placebo is a little bit boring and I dont care if everyone hates me but this song has the type of music I like, Within Temptation is the best!!!
Favorite version of this song besides Placebo's cover!!!
Better than the original.
Music wise I would tend to agree, but her voice isn't on par with Kate Bush.
Powerful ending too.
So many people hung up on how this compares to other covers! When I initially heard this a couple of years ago I hated it: now I realise it's not a bad cover at all, it's just that I prefer Bush's sense of vulnerability in the original.
Could be understood like this: Kate Bush wants a deal with God; Placebo wants a deal with the loved one; Within Temptation wants a deal with itself?
Oh god it was so so so, close to what I wanted to find Bush covers. It's over done - no space - the switching back in forth between the way her voice was recored and the wierdo overlaying of texture sounds KILL this beyond dead. Do they have any standout tracks that are not horribly mixed?
A force de l'écouter j'aime cette version ! :)
El mejor cover
I like the track and field version so much better. This is still one of the better versions, but I do wish she was remotely in pitch. If she was, this'd be so much better.
love Kate bush, love placebos version... but this sure does grow on you
I normally hate Within Temptation... but this is a good cover.
I like this version, more than Kate Bush, but even more than the Placebo original one.
The voice of Sharon is absolutely superior!
Still the best cover I've ever heard! Including Placebo wich is actualy good, but somehow without energy...
this version of the song is great!!! i liked the original by kate bush too but couldn't possibly stand what placebo did with it ... still, i think WT 's the best ... so much more powerful XD
good band...but leave this song to Kate, it's better....
I think Within Temptation did okay with Kate Bush's song. But all in all no one can compare to the original. I have to say though that Placebo's version makes it deeper and more meaningful.
i believe this is better than the original
yes...Allronix gives a nice interpretation though...music is what it makes you feel...see...think...it's all individual. no one can be wrong expressing his/her personal emotions about music...
Within Temptation all the way baby, I love that ladys voices and she is hot kate Bush I think her name is.
@SidheRockz I have many lives. Too many. And too little peace. And yes, semantics is a nice hobby, too... a way to perfect and shape one's perfection. Words, deeds... even emotions and thoughts.
And thank you for the comment...
tht was fukin amazing, her voice sounds so good., i like this version better thn the origional
La cantaron en la clausura de los juegos olímpicos, claro que obviamente me gusta mas esta versión :D
indeed!
