      I agree with you totally. DPP an excellent album. Imaginaerum, to me, the best NW album. Annette took a lot o the NW party. Ok, she could not do the Tarja operatics, but to me the only ‘failing’ is Poet and that is not her fault. Poet needed to be recorded when it was, but it had to wait for Floor to be performed ‘properly’.

    Tarja was the reason we all like Nightwish. Floor is the reason they gained new popularity. But this particular song with Anette will always be my absolute favorite. It's contemporary, it's short & sweet yet heavy and hella melodic. She owns on this song.

    This is a prime example that nobody owns this song like Annette did. Everyone is arguing over who is the better singer, but all three vocalists have their own captivating qualities that make their respective eras special in their own way. Tarja for opera, Annette for pop/folk, and Floor does a little bit of everything with finesse. Still, Annette's voice had a way of cutting through the mix and she did a great job with voice inflections and accents.

    Tekst piosenki:
    Baptised with a perfect name
    The doubting one by heart
    Alone without himself
    War between him and the day
    Need someone to blame
    In the end, little he can do alone
    You believe but what you see
    You receive but what you give
    Caress the one, the Never-Fading
    Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
    Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
    In a land of the daybreak
    Apart from the wandering pack
    In this brief flight of time we reach
    For the ones, whoever dare
    You believe but what you see
    You receive but what you give
    Caress the one, the Never-Fading
    Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
    Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
    In a land of the daybreak
    Reaching, searching for something untouched
    Hearing voices of the Never-Fading calling
    Caress the one, the Never-Fading
    Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
    Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
    In a land of the daybreak

      Floor can sing it, but it just doesn't sound or feel the same. This song was what basically sold fans on Annette and she pretty much owns it, IMO. This is usually what happens when a singer records an original song and the fans come to love it, though...no other singer is ever going to get it "quite right" to the ear.

    Amaranth is a type of perennial plant for those who keep asking. I don't want to tell anyone how to interpret music, that is always a personal exploration but I think one way to look at this song's meaning is that you should try to find the thing or person that brings you joy in life and to always hold onto it even through the tears of sorrow that life brings. This video is based on a painting called 'The Wounded Angel' by finnish painter Hugo Simberg which was voted as Finland's national painting at the Ateneum art museum in 2006.
    The beauty of the amaranth could also be symbolic of romance or resurrection such as the greek legend of Amaranthus, a hunter who was killed by a tidal wave caused by Poseidon; Artemis, goddess of the hunt, revived him in the form of an amaranth flower.

    In my opinion all did a great job. Because of the changes nightwish is always interesting to hear, because every singer created an own style.

      People just don't like change. I get why people didn't like Anette due to the style change in the music but I still think she did a fantastic job. I don't hold any preference over her or Tharja. Haven't listened to Floor yet tbh.

    • @RejectedInch
      @RejectedInch 8 лет назад +3

      Well, taking a soprano voice ( Tharja) away and replacing it with a pop style voice, simply took away the identity from the band. It doesn't mean good or bad, it means that the atmosphere, mood, identity is no longer the same and the band itself can be heard like any other mass metal bands now. It lost "the bite" . Comparing this voice with the soprano print of Tharja there's an abyss between the two, so, in this case, more tha disliking changes, is disliking the fall from a peculiar, strong, unique identity to the mass. Without any disrespect for the Anette, simply her voice doesn't fit with this genre of music. :)

    • @MisterLyricist
      @MisterLyricist 8 лет назад

      Anette is a soft rock singer with theatrical sensibilities. These strengths were emphasized on Imaginaerum. The fact of the matter is that Nightwish never lost any "bite"... the group simply took on a new identity with Anette (as has happened again with Floor). People are always quick to despise change, but there was nothing wrong with the transition from Tarja's metallic vibrato to Anette's character singing. Bear in mind that all forms of music can interact with one another however any composer pleases (Tarja's lyric soprano would've never melded with metal fifty years ago, right?), so Tuomas provided us with an immensely distinct combination of heaviness and tenderness that only Anette could help contribute to. Her torch singing was lush and vibrant! She was meant to signal something new, not replace that which once was. And honestly, I think that Anette was better for Nightwish in the long run and am glad that she got to record two strong albums with the boys!
      When people compare, all they wind up doing is selling the music and the vocals short of what they really are.

    Why Nightwish is not the most famous band in the world is beyond me. I am sorry for my American country people but they are tone death listening to the Ballerina Grande/Justin Bieber/Kanye West crap. These guys are the whole package. They have style, they look cool, they are humble, have more musical ability in a fingernail than the 3 lammers i mentioned. Technically speaking the production value of Nightwish's music is far more creative and intricate than most artist. You can tell its not brainless and bunch of pop culture jibber jabber.

    • @bowserjr55
      @bowserjr55 8 лет назад +20

      +fullstack2 It's because artists with actual music talent are hard to come by these days since most American artists only need a good beat and some autotune to get a record deal.I fully agree that Nightwish deserves a lot more fame, because symphonic rock makes for some very atmospheric music, but also because a lot of the time it tests the limits of the singer's voice based on what they're used to singing.

      We didn't know how good we had it in the 80's when metal and rock were still heard everywhere. I like one band that has taken to the growling and that's Orkrist, they're real vocalist's voice offsets the background growls. I would rather hear a good metal singer any day, Dio, Bruce Dickinson,James Hetfeild, James Mustaine and whoever is the singer in Nightwish now. I'm oldschool, the growling isn't my cup of tea. I like reign in blood though. I would rather hear the growling than hip hop any day, though.

      Not sure if it's the song, the video, the multiple ways this can be interpreted or all the above.
      It makes me hate how we as human, destroy that which we do not understand either out of fear, some misguided notion or simply because it's different.
      Either way, this song always makes me sorrowful and hate what we are.

    This was the first song from Nightwish I'd ever heard, it's been 12 years since then and they're now one of my favorite musical acts of all time, and I still regret not having heard of them sooner, during the Tarja years, but I think it was a blessing in disguise, as Annette Olson being the first vocalist I'd heard of theirs made her much easier for me to accept than had I gone from Tarja to Annette. I agree with the general concensus that Annette was their weakest vocalist, but I think she's pretty damned great, too, and Escapist is still my all-time favorite Nightwish song, and it's a song neither Floor, or Tarja could pull off as well as Annette did.

    Nightwish is a unique power metal band. The 99 million views indicates that the power is not just in the genre name, but the song must keep playing in order for Finland’s electric and power supply to maintain. They are rhe key to solving the energy crisis. What is their secret? Why is Finland hiding the truth from us? Keep asking questions, investigate nightwish.

    Jelena - Not all metal music has to be the same kind of vocals, or a certain kind of singing. I like some metal music, but if every single song is just screaming and unintelligible, why am I going to listen to something I can't even understand what they are singing about. Sometimes harmony and melody is nice. I am now a fan of NightWish. ^_^

    • @DrizzleWoolf
      @DrizzleWoolf 10 лет назад +5

      I hope you know that 'metal' doesnt mean 'screamo/growl', there are plenty of bands using clear vocals. 2ndly, i agree, there is not a certain kind of singing, but Anette's vocals are not a 'metal way to do it', and I (and im not the one) find it very pop
