    Hi from New Zealand.
    I use a length of weed-whacker line. Feed it down as far as it goes…then check water flows out OK.

    Incredible for such a well engineered car , and after all these years, that drains are still a significant problem. Come on Porsche, redesign these ! Excellent presentation, thank you.

      idk, this is a simple problem and a simple maintenance problem that all cars have. my toyota had plugged drains.
      the key thing would be to make the system less likely to drop a hose connection or a way to blow it from the outlet rather than the inlet

      @@DarkTouch I agree it’s a simple problem but unnecessary…I’ve never had it in any other car I’ve owned (both inexpensive and expensive) but I have had it in all but one of my Porsches.

    New member here and first Porsche, 2012 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet 997.2, going back through some older tech tactics shows and ran across this episode, this never crossed my mind that you would need to check drain tubes to keep your inside of your car dry, as much money these cars cost you would think Porsche would've come up with a better design. This episode was very informative about how you keep your car dry. Thank goodness mine has been kept in a garage like all Cabriolets should, but I will check out all my drain tubes to be on the safe side.
    Thank you Vu and your crew for these biweekly shows, learning a lot about my and other Porsche cars.

    I’ve owned 7 Porsches. I think their quality and engineering is amazing. Seeing this makes me frustrated a bit. How can they spend so much on every other component of a vehicle and leave this so poorly designed and made? As politicians like to say, it’s just unacceptable.

    $5k for a "park assist control unit". Dealer casually states, oh, yeah, this happens. We usually recommend people to clean their drain tubes at lease once a year. WTF? It's not in the manual. It's a known problem. Who the hell just randomly cleans out sunroof drains?

      why hasn't there been some sort of class action about this -- if it is impacting electrical, airbag deployment, etc. this is a major safety hazard. It is not a wear and tear issue. This can happen at any stage of mileage.

    Wait until all these poor designs for water draining shorts out an EV model and $200k goes up in smoke - god forbid a person is harmed. That’s when the class action suits get going and great harm is done to the brand.

    Vu, This was a great idea for a video but I found it lacking in a number of ways. First, you were trying to show the plugged drain in the cowl of the 997 but your arm was in the way and there was never a shot of the drain. Then later you made a short comment about the 997 sunroof drains - open the sunroof and you will see the drains. Pour water from a bottle in to see if it comes out on to the floor, etc. Well, I opened my sunroof and couldn't find a drain anywhere at all. Further, if I had poured water into that channel around the sunroof, it would have come right into the headliner and soaked the inside of my car. Maybe this video was helpful to owners of other models, but regarding the comments made on the 997.1 coupe, I think you really missed the mark. Hoping for better from you next time, sorry!

    • @sportscarnut
      @sportscarnut 3 года назад +4

      Vu did a great job. One can not expect such a session to be exhaustive. The information discussed is more than enough for an owner to do further research on his own.

    • @PorscheClubofAmerica
      @PorscheClubofAmerica  3 года назад +3

      Tom, the front cowl plugs are really easy to see once you pop the battery cover. You can see them at 38:49, might have to pause the video. As for the 997 sunroof lines, unfortunately hard to show without a coupe there. I did a quick search for you and found this video for you: ruclips.net/video/p0md6tUbOms/видео.html The front sunroof drains are easily visible the rear drains not so much. If your drains are working, it will drain. If they are clogged, you do risk getting headliner wet. Proceed with caution or enlist a pro to check/clean for you. Good luck!
