  • Made a video on the basics on Protection Paladins, including things such as managing mana, gear options, working around the lack of taunt and various other things that was on my mind.
    Nothing super complicated, but I hope you guys find it useful.
    Let me know if there's any topic in particular you want me to cover.

      There is a list on the wowhead classic guide of prot pala that shows which bosses can be off tanked (a bit rare for prot pala to main tank in vanilla).
      A video that shows any type of tanking in a raid would be very interesting!

    • @impaladba
      @impaladba 4 года назад +1

      it is not actually. Warrior and druid taunts sets your threat the same as top threat holder at the moment when you use it. BoP only hides threat of the player you apply it to. So if that player with BoP continues to make threat - it will get aggro right after BoP ends. Only upside is that BoP can't be resisted.

    @holyfrog love your content, man! Been a warrior tank in vanilla and a druid on pservers, thought I'd complete the trifecta.
    Quick question: are there any particular weapons you recommend in place of the Flurry Axe? It's frightfully expensive for my casual ass, with the price set to increase more and more as the server matures. Also, it being lv. 35 makes me a bit afraid to commit so much gold on the purchase. What about a spellpower weapon or Axe of Rin'ji?

    • @Avoidling
      @Avoidling  5 лет назад

      There's not a lot of good spellpower weapons at this stage of the game to really make it worth it. I really do recommend fast weapons though. See if you can pick up a Hanzo Sword for cheap as those are 1.5 speed as well, although it dont have the additional attack proc of Flurry. However it is a sword, so if you play Human it allows you to take advantage of your weapon skill racial for a little extra hit chance.
      Other noteworthy options would be Fist of the Damned from Sunken Temple and Wraith Scythe from BRD as those both scale with Spellpower on their proc if you happen to have Spellpower on other piece of gear. Mirah's Song is also a pretty decent option with it's well rounded stats and 40 DPS.

The same pally told me though, he opens with a judgement of righteousness for more initial threat? What's your thoughts on that? I have also thought that one could mark a certain target with a lesser-used marker, like the purple one, to mean "kill this last" - that way you can autoattack purple and get a lot of mana rolling for the large duration of the fight.

      Hey. I was enchanting and engineering for classic. Engineering is kinda Mandatory for Prot in PvE since we're constantly at a disadvantage and need to push the limit of what we can do. Sappers/Dynamites offers burst threat, Engineering Shield is fantastic as well as other benefits.
      For TBC Im not sure. Looks like I'll be playing Ret right now but for Prot the spellpower enchant on rings is really good, and engineering is still quite beneficial with super sappers etc. But it's not as much of a must have profession as in Classic so if you play more casuall you can pretty much do any profession you like and still do well.

    Nice video. I really like the part about gear recommendations. And yes, I fully agree too much Defense can be an issue. What I noticed that you're always fully prot specced. How much room is there to get away with less points in prot? While I managed to do a Scholo without any pts in prot it was far from a smooth run. I'm mostly interested in a 20/31/0 or a 21/21/9 specc. The biggest issue will of course be the need for consecration and improved righteous fury.

    • @Avoidling

      Ok thats a surprise to me, I was pretty sure that you had the remaining points after consecration in ret. for additional mitigation or faster judgements. While missing Divine Favour hurts it still allows you to heal reliably in current content. After the first few pug runs throuh MC and Ony I'm fairly happy to see that Holy Shock still is a utter waste in all but high mobility encounters/PvP and Holy Power, while nice is not strictly required to function.

  • @impaladba
    @impaladba 4 года назад

    TBH defense gear is still the best, you only need to make sure that its not to big and mobs have atleast 1% chance to crit you. This way you would be able to manipulate crit procs with /sit/stand. While being really hard to kill when you need it. This way you also would get alot of free threat with Sanctuary blessing even without redoubt.

    • @Avoidling
      @Avoidling  4 года назад

      Sit stand is not really viable in dungeons. Too unreliable to pull off when tanking lots of mobs, so you end up just getting crit without getting Redoubt.

    • @impaladba
      @impaladba 4 года назад

      @@Avoidling depends on your skill at it. In my experience its even easier with many mobs. First of all you basically aiming to /sit and strafe with your curent target because you have swing timer for it. Secondary if there are alot of them you can just randomly and quickly /sit strafe at any moment and you would get proc 90% of the time. ANd if you have alot of defense - you almost never get critted without sitting.

    Guys as a 60 prot paladin i fucking regret not going warrior, prot is basically okay for dungeons and bad for raids where as warrior is a beast in dungeons and a beast in raids, we play to progress right ? Paladins peak at lvl 30 and slowely degrade until raiding so its really depressing to see your self become less and less effective, and if u say u dont want to raid then why are u getting gear from dungeons ? to what end ? so i strongly advise to not make the same mistake as me, Good news is if ur already 60 u can just leave that character until they release TBC which they become monsters in.

      Then (depending on the pala tank) you'd be missing out. I'm currently running BRD and LBRS and mobs stick to me like glue. Most times the guy in the video loses aggro he's either 1. Not judging righteousness (which I would always lead with) 2. Having a concecration up. (Not critisising, Im sure he has his reasons).
      I'd argue that Prot Paladins are THE BEST dungeon tanks, especially when paired with mages. Protpallies unlike warriors and druids, can kite tank and when you get the hang of it you can basically do spellcleave runs that include clearing all bosses. It's insane really.
