    In your arguments about rings being given to Noish, there's one unit you forgot about: Lief. Lief is by far the best user of the pursuit ring in gen 2 due to his broken a.f. promotion, and the best way for him to use it is to inherit it from his mom as well as the money to buy the paragon ring at the begining of the chapter. While this is a lot of investment, a Leif promoted early in gen 2 is easily one off the best units in either generation. Of course Lief gets his items from Ethlyn, and Ethlyn leaves at the end of chapter 3. So when you look at it as a competition between Lief and Noish, Noish actually has a considerable amount of competition for that pursuit ring. Otherwise great video.

    • @dorcasmutton6335
      @dorcasmutton6335 2 года назад +5

      Lief gets pursuit when he promotes though, he only needs the ring for as long as he's unpromoted. I'll agree that until then he uses it the best, but afterwards you have to give it to someone else

      @@dorcasmutton6335 My point is that Noish can't have the pursuit ring for most of gen 1 if Leif gets it, and there is a very good case for Lief getting the pursuit ring

      about leif with the pursuit ring its actually not that hard to get him the pursuit ring if you set it up right.The most important thing leif needs is the bargain ring since that allows him to get it for half price which he can get if you give him some cash with your theif.Now actually getting the bargain ring is pretty hard but not impossible and if everything works out you can get the bargain ring and have enough to buy for leif almost automatically.sure you have to baby leif pretty hard but its worth considering you pretty much just need him,seliph and maybe forseti arthur to clear the entire game

    • @ness6099
      @ness6099 Год назад +3

      If you are worried about getting the pursuit ring on Leif, the bargain ring already does most of the work. If you don’t want to delay getting it and want to get pursuit at the same time, give Patty’s dad (Noish is indeed a good candidate for this role) the pursuit ring at the end of gen 1 and she can sell it after the arena then give her money to Leif.
      Usually I do Forseti Arthur getting pursuit ring, just so crazy. I don’t think Leif needs it as much as Paragon though, 2 arenas and a good amount of action on the map and he’s good to promote.

    yeah this is one of my favorite parts of fe4 is that the game does an amazing job at differentiating units from one another.In most games the christmas cavs have very minor differences and usually the one you train depends on which one has better stats.But alec and noish are about as different as 2 units of the same class lines can be.Alec is a fairly normal combat unit who starts out really bad and who needs a lot of help to be good.Noish on the other hand is actually quite self sufficient but struggles due to lack of pursuit.Once he gets pursuit however he beats alec in pretty much every way possible.The contrast between these two is one of my favorite things in fe4 and the decision between which one you use is also one of my favorites.although my username probably tells you which one i pick

      I agree. Its also cool how FE5 expands on that unique unit identity aspect with FCMs, movement stars and a higher presence of leadership stars. Not only that, but some units of the same class have access to completely different weapon types, similar to how holy blood in FE4 affects weapon ranks.

    I don't really have alot to say on the christmas cavs. I think they serve as an amazing tutorial though. Alec teaches you about pursuit and has stats that lean towards that skill (skill and speed) while noish has critical and stats that lean towards tanking and one shotting enemies (lots of str and crit) it's up to the player to chose which skill they preffer and invest from there. I believe they were designed sort of like a choice. You can either choose the strong one or the one that attacks twice.

    Yeah, I freaking Love these two. At first, It seems like a No Brainer for Alec with Pursuit, but Noish has that off chance to kill the enemy with Critical/Accost procs. As Your weapons get Critical, Alec Becomes way better but if Noish wields Arden's Pursuit Ring, He Usually Outpreforms Alec. And Even as Fathers, they are either the "Safe but boring one"" or the "Risky but rewarding" one as well. Overall, These two are probably the best Example of a Christmas Cav in the series.

If it’s not, the strong cav. The level of nuance behind this game combined with your analysis and interpretation of how things play out make for an excellent combination. Keep up the great work!

    Neat video. I am surprised you didn't distinguish their differences as potential fathers for gen 2. I guess their performance in gen 1 doesn't really translate to how good a father they are, but I usually put more effort into units I pair for gen 2, since I gotta put them adjacent to someone I am likely deploying anyway. I always wanted to try Noishe-Ayra out but I suppose that limits Noishe's movement.

    something else about these guys is the magic sowrd build potential they have.Mekkah discussed this in an old vid of his but basically since male paladins have plus 5 magic on promotion since they have the same promo bonus as female paladins for some reason.with the magic ring this means that they get 10 magic at base combined with the magic swords might of 14.this leaves them with 24 attack at base which combined with the ability to double and the patheitc res of most enemies means that they can actually one round a lot of tougher enemies.this benefits alec much more than it benefits noish in my opinion since alec has damage issues that this build surpasses while noish doesnt.You see the thing with noish is that crits in this game actually cut right through your def but have a lower multiplier than standard fe crits.This means that hillariously bosses like langbard who has absurd defense with his wepaon and throne boost can actually get one shot fairly easily if you get a crit on them.the only benefit noish gets from this is 1-2 range which is actually pretty huge but overall i would reccomend giving the magic swords to someone like erin or maybe even like oifey in gen 2

    It's tricky. Alec has the best and the worst skill, while Noish has 2 good skills. Thing is pursuit is available through an item and you can get the money for it with Thief Sword (and Dew should be fully stacked with gold after last chapter).
    Inheritance wise Noish is much better because he has a niche as a parent (good stats, crit and accost), while Alec gets overshadowed by both Beowulf and Finn. Nihil is completely useless in this game as enemies with crits are more rare than good map design in Gaiden.
    I can't even tell by their character, because they don't say anything after start of prologue. Alec gets like one conversation with Sylvia and Noish not even that. Ugh.
    And even with that in mind they're still leagues better than Alan and Lance from FE6 who might as well be clones.
    So i guess Alec is better if you're playing fast or doing substitutes run and Noish is better if you play a little slower (to the point that Arden gets combat exp).

    I always go with Noish, I just get him the skill ring and let him be. But his true importance comes from inheriting crits for the swordmaster kids and some necessary bulk to be in the front lines.

However they do feel like a duo that's meant to work together which is estabhlished in the very first turn of the game. Which is cool.

    To be honest, FE4 giving you the ability to use your entire army at once, as well as having maps so large and full of enemies, you really should be using both even if one were objectively worse than the other. Even Arden, sluggish as he is, is quite useful simply because having that extra manpower can make all the difference, and with Alec and Naoise being Cavaliers, they can throw their weight around all over the map, so they both retain a non-negligible degree of versatility in spite of their statistic specializations.

    Honestly I think Noish is better yes it's expensive to make him better than Alec but he only needs the pursuit ring a item without much competition in who gets it and exp to become a very strong unit in gen 1 also do to the skill synergy it gives noish with pursuit ring is amazing meanwhile Alec can never really get that skill synergy and the skill that matters on Alec pursuit can be obtained by Noish and is arguably the best user of it meanwhile of the pursuit ring and Alec needs stat rings and those are definitely more contented yes Alec takes good use out of it but so does most of the cast and it can be argued it's more expensive to make Alec good he needs a couple ring and more expensive weapons meanwhile noish just needs the pursuit ring that's it no other rings and can work well with iron weapons. so in short when it comes to investment Noish gets more out of it than Alec but without investment they are almost the same on how good they are and that's mediocre still use them because cav in fe4 though.

    Alec fell off for me because I didn't get him the steel sword. I'm doing my first run of the game rn so I ended up giving the Steel Sword to... Sigurd. I didn't know Arvis would come in and gift Sigurd the silver sword at the time (which is funny because I already knew about a lot of other things like optimal pairings, Lachesis and Leif promoting to Master Knight, and, well, the actual story) and even then, I didn't really use it until well into Chapter 1. I still have no idea why I didn't sell Alec the steel sword afterward, but I still think I hardly needed to because I made a point of distributing the EXP and only throwing Sigurd in during emergencies and against bosses that others struggled to hit.
    Right now, Noish (with the Pursuit ring), Azelle (promoted and with a Magic and Speed ring), Ayra (with a Knight ring and Leg ring), Erinys, Lachesis (wielding all 4 physical weapons + Fortify), and Brigid are doing perfectly fine without Sigurd. I use him just to get kills on the silver sword for Seliph at this point.

    Few things to note here :-
    1) crit rates are extremely unreliable so noish being able to crit doesn't give him an advantage, espacially since his crit chance is extremely low
    2) noish is much worse in the arena since he doesn't double, and you showing your personal experience to show alec losing and him winning doesn't prove anything, Actually use data to back up your argument
    3) the best user of the pursuit ring is Ethlyn -> Leif Actually, Ethlyn needs it to double with light brand to build kills for it since it's best 1-2 range weapon in gen 2 for Seliph that Literally lets him OHKO enemies reliably, NOT TO MENTION Ethlyn can easily get money via Her husband while Noish will compete for village money and he's not that good in the arena
    4) the stat advantages between Alec and noish don't matter because they're small and Alec being able to double makes him extremely better, you mentioned that Noish has slightly better str so he uses the brave lance better however 1) alec can quadruple with it, making his dmg output better 2) the str advantage Noish has is small while Alec being able to quadruple is big deal 3) neither is the best user of it, Finn is, he gets the brave lance for free and he needs it to promote faster and be a great help in ch7
    5) Alec taking an extra encounter in ch0+1 doesn't matter because Ethlyn exists, and the bulk differences between him and Noish are small and literally DON'T change anything :-
    Brigands in ch0+1 have 19 atk
    Alec has 7 def and 32 hp, so he gets 3HKOed
    Noish has 8 def and 33 hp, so he ALSO gets 3HKOed
    It's also the same for their combat :
    Alec = 9 base str + 10 MT steel sword = 19 dmg x 2
    Noish = 11 bass str + 10 MT steel sword = 21 dmg
    Brigands in ch0+1 have 36 HP 5 def, that means Alec deals a total of 28 dmg per round and he 2RKOes while Noish deals 16 dmg and he 3RKOes
    Alec at base has objectively better combat
