Got a Mazda CX 50 instead of a Highlander of even a Camry, and they respected us. That matters to me. Our 4Runner was amazing but overkill for what we used it for.

I kitted out the truck with 4 inch thick foam, an electric blanket, battery inverter river 2 to power the bracket, a thick fuzzy black queen sized blanket and camping pillow. I am 5 ft 11in tall and 165lbs and 40 years old and able to crawl into the trunk via the folding rear seat and use the fuzzy blanket to block out the light and leave my legs and feet dangling over the folder rear seat into the cabin while my torso and head and arms are floating on the memory foam e-blanket and fuzzy blanket pillow kit and take 10-40 min naps to refresh on the go and works fine. Commuting to work smooth I can get over 50 MPG and hypermiling over 70 MPG, so it bests even my wife's 3rd gen Prius in terms of fuel economy. I also love the design of the E210 Corolla :)

Everyone says it’s stupid there’s so much overlap I think Toyota has thought this through and they’re going to sell a shitload of all of these. And it’s very easy to option a 4Runner and end up saying “gee I’m almost at LC price maybe I’ll just get that” and same with a well optioned LC it’s easy to justify a jump to the GX. Also while 4Runner and LC are so close in size, styling wise they are so different some people are going to prefer one or the other.
The vehicle that makes no sense is the Sequoia, no point to such a large expensive SUV with so little usable space. GX renders the Sequoia pointless. It looks good but just doesn’t have enough space to justify.

Here in California, premium gas is over $6/gallon so I'm waiting for the GX hybrid to be released. I have a 2023 RX hybrid and it seems like a no brainer to go with hybrid these days, so quiet and smooth and cheap to drive. Also the higher watt AC outlets in the hybrids are nice.

With the new Tacoma.... toyata's scaleability on one platform... is just....crazy.... but the most important thing is not these trucks... it's the current interest rate.... and dealer markups... I was offered near 10k discount on 2023 lexus GX460 at a special 2% rate... no matter how toyota and lexus have good resale values ... it maybe better to wait a year or two until the rates come down and the new demand for next hot thing winds down... Ford broncos are now selling at MSRP or lower nowadays...

You forget that lower load floor on the GX, Kirk. That’s a plus for me. I like the lip of the rear of the hatch matching the floor of the rear. It makes it easier to load heavy boxes and you aren’t scuffing up that load floor lip they’ve created in the LC. It’s a small thing that gets more annoying with time.

I agree with Kirk's conclusions... in _theory_ ... *however* in terms of real world _availability_ ... (and Kirk being an experienced Lexus salesperson may or may not agree with me) don't you think it's highly unlikely for Lexus dealers to sell stripped down base models? I think Lexus dealers tend to load up their vehicles with expensive option packages. So that means the base model GX is kind of a mythical creature. I would also think a similar thing is going to happen with the new Land Cruiser. Being as the previous Land Cruiser had a much higher point of entry, I think Toyota dealers aren't going to want to sell stripped down base model Land Cruisers. So that leaves the 4Runner as the only "affordable" option. And I think it will be much easier to find low spec 4Runners (not immediately of course, but eventually) than it will be to find stripper base model Land Cruisers and Lexus GXs on dealer lots. So there goes your price overlap... right out the window (sticker)! 😺

IMHO opportunity lost on a three row GX Overtrail. Other markets get the turbo diesel Land Cruiser with the three rows due to a lack of hybrid battery in the cargo floor. They could have done the same with the GX Overtrail but for some reason decided not to. Instead the only option for a three row off-roader is the Sequoia.

The comparison is not quite right btw a 4Runner that has sway bar disconnect and the Land Cruiser 1958 that does not have it. One needs to go to the LC LC to have it. So off-roading goes down when shifting to a LC 1958, which is weird to have to say.

I REALLY liked how the 4Runner TRD pro looked. However, I would have to wait until November to jump into a new one. That practically leaves me with either the Land Cruiser (Land Cruiser) or the GX550 premium plus. Which equipped how I want, are the same price. I don’t really need the third row and just leaves me with the decision of either spending more on fuel for the Lexus badge or an over priced Toyota. Decisions, decisions. 😅
