    YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR REVIEW. In late 2022, someone at Withings/Health Mate thought the app needed upgrading, and in doing so completely wrecked the functionality. My scales no longer talk to my app, and despite uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times under instruction from Withings, disassociating, resetting, rebooting it still failed to work. It used to be a good hardware software marriage, now it's ruined. Your review while current and relevant at the time is no longer that way. If I saw your review and then bought the scales, I'd be disappointed in the scales and angry that you failed to mention the pitfalls of the app update.

      Hello Josh. I can only report what I observe and experience. My Body Scan talks directly to my app and whilst the UX/UI has changed to some extent recently, it works without difficulty. All of the readings I took with the Body Scan this morning are on my app. Having said all that, I will try to pin your comment as it could be that other users are experiencing the frustrations that you are. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max running the latest iOS, 16.2. The app may function differently on different devices.

    Hello ! Thank you for a great review of the Withings Body Scan ! I am thinking of purchasing the scale and would like to know how you have been finding it since your review ? I'm aware of the limitations of this technology so would be more interested in the trending than the accuracy of the actual data. Can I ask if your data is consistent ? Do you get many rogue results ? After having a bad knee injury and significant muscle loss in one of my legs, I was wondering if this would help me track muscle gain in my recovery ? Thanks again for your time 😊

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  11 месяцев назад +1

      I have been using the scale consistently and the results have been consistent. I haven't been getting bizarre shifts in the data. What does happen is that not all of the sensors make readings all of the time. Sometimes the Pulse Wave Velocity does not read. I think that the software is a little buggy and you should read the comments below to see other people's experiences. Having said all of that I am happy with the scales and the muscle mass v fat mass figures do track and change as I eat more or exercise more. Hope this helps.

    Nice video. I was keen to see if you were getting any ECG measurements from the Body Scan - because I am not with mine. This is shown as a "key selling point" in all their advertising in the UK. • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Год назад

      I set it up so that my Withings writes to Apple Health. I have it set so that the Withings can read and write all data with Apple Health. My Garmin Connect is not connected to my Withings. My Garmin Connect is connected to my Apple Health, however I don't allow it to write to Apple Health. Ideally the data, that I would select, such as weight would come through Withings, to Apple Health and then to Garmin Connect, but I have not been able to do this. Because I wear the Garmin and Apple Watch I try not to sync all the data as both count steps and heart rate etc.
      To make things more complicated I also use My Fitness Pal. My understanding is that you can route Withings data through this to Garmin Connect. I am not 100% sure that this works as my weight does not update in the Garmin Connect App
      Not sure what I have done is the ideal setup, but it seems to work for what I need. I am tempted to strip it all back and start again with all the permissions...

      The Body Scan captures more data than the Body+, such as ECG and Segmental Body Composition. They both measure weight and I did not notice any difference in my results when I moved over from the Body+ to the Body Scan. Hope this helps.

      @@OldManRunner So no difference in results between two devices in bone mass, fat mass and muscle mass?

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Год назад +1

      I just tested myself on both. My weight is measuring about the same 83.05/82.9. I am not sure the Body Scan measures the other metrics and outputs them in the same way. I will do some investigating to be sure of what exactly is happening

    • @OldManRunner
      @OldManRunner  Год назад +2

      I did some more tests. The Body Scan and Body+ do not measure all of the same things and not in the same way. The data they present is in different formats in the app and on the web. What they both measure and display on the scale readout, weight and BMI have been consistent and each machine gives consistent results independent of each other (at least in my testing). The Body Scan gives Fat, Muscle and Visceral Fat expressed as a percentage. These add to 100% or (99.8% on my test). The Body+ gives a Fat% and a Water% on the display (which add to 64.7% on my test) and gives Bone Mass in kg and Muscle Mass in kg on screen. On the web it gives Fat Mass and Lean Mass as %'s and they add to 100%. It gives Water mass independently as a %. It gives Bone Mass and Muscle Mass as % and they add to almost 100.
      The data from the Body Scan is easiest to interpret in the app, particularly in the Segmental Body Analysis area. The data I get here is similar between the two machines, Body Scan and Body+
      There is a lot of comparing apples to oranges in the system, whilst also looking at them through different lenses..
      Withings have some way to go to consistently display the information between the display of the scale, the phone app and the dashboard on the web. The measurements for me do have occasional bugs and glitches but largely the data is consistent. I am most interested in the relative data rather than the absolute data. I want to know when the data changes, trending upwards or downwards and whether it is going in or out of positive healthy range.
      I hope this has helps...

      @kevinmayfield7704 Год назад

      Have just been reading up the theory behind this.
      The reliability of impedance measurements for runners/cyclists isn't going to be reliable as it's measuring body fat mostly on the legs. In my case (and in the video) this would give a 7-11% body fat reading. I suspect my whole body fat reading is 15-20%.
      So for me I'm getting a 7kg reading for fat mass, I think the real figure is more around 10-15kg.
      I'm going to try measuring with callipers and see what that gives. If it's around 15-20% mark, I'm getting body scan :)

    Withings Scan Scale released in early December 2022. Problem and complete B/S from the 1-800 number, and they lie like they had no idea what was happening and ask for all kinds of information.
    Maybe if we all returned the scan scales for a full refund, France would get the message.
    The API is not rocket science. All of the scale data show up on my iPhone. Someone in France forgot to update the data display on the web and completely rewrite the 'Measurement Details to include all of the original information the way it was, plus all of the new scan information as it is displayed on the scan scale, along with updating the graphs.
    This is my 4th scale from Withings, with 12 years' worth of continuous data until my scale arrived on January 9, 2023. This a really big disappointment!!

    Unfortunately, the scale is highly unreliable and inaccurate.
    I had a Withings Body+ for years and the measures have always been stable and reliable. Since I moved to the new Body Scan, my fat percentage is gone crazy. According to Body Scan, I have a fat percentage of 3-6% which is absolutely untrue as the Body+ continues to record this as 14%, which is more in line with other scales I have tried. Plus, stepping on the Body Scan twice with a minute interval records a fat percentage of 3.1%, followed by 6.1% and 7.4%. I don’t think my body fat can change that much in a minute.
    The PWV is rarely captured and I have to step on the scale twice to get this measures, which also causes the fat % to change dramatically.
    For the price, this must not happen so avoid buying it

    Two big problems that are not mentioned in this review. (1) The accuracy - most of these devices are unreliable! You can get vastly different results in just the space of a day! (2) Definately not worth the £400 mark. I think Withings are using the psychology that "if it is that expensive it must be good". And actually other companies make similar products (the well know Tanita and Omron) - both at the £70 mark - so a lot less (if you want to still waste your money).
