Amazing indeed. Although it would take an army of workers to organize, research, advertise, etc., my fantasy is to have a massive "garage" sale of all items left behind to support renovations. Are there any surviving photos of what it looked like 100+ years ago?
There was so much you didn't show of this place. The swimming pool, the basement with the stairs that went nowhere, the bomb shelter and rations in the basement, the statues on the grounds. I spend a lot of my childhood exploring this place. I rollerbladed on that marble and watched kids in that play area on the first floor. I also played my clarinet in that chapel. Such an amazing place.
That thing with the drawers was a card catalog . They had them in libraries with cards in them you looked in there to find out where the book you were looking for was on the shelf in the library . They were filed by a numbering system called the dewy decimal system . I am lost in a library without those little files. It puts me in a certain age bracket
Another old fart here! I remember that smell when you opened the drawers, paper and ink. And how the edges of the cards were always soft, having been worn down from generations of fingers flipping though them.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, the area was dotted with mansion for some of the Philadelphia elite families. Many of the mansions were demolished like Whitemarsh Hall...the Versailles of America. Some of the surviving mansions have been repurposed and are still alive today. One could only hope that this masterpiece of American architectural history can be saved. Thank you for the tour.
It is crazy how quickly larger homes can fall into disrepair. We bought a house that was almost 8,000sq ft. With a basketball court in it. An old lady (90) lived there by herself for 10 years on her own. Her 3 sons did bare minimum to help and she just lived in a small corner of it using space heaters. We had to put a decent amount of money into it so we could flip it. We had to do weekly maintenance on it to keep it in good working order for the 5 years we lived there. The new owners are doing an amazing job now.
True, but laws now require fire escapes, dedicated HVAC systems (individual heat and AC for each room, not circulated as in a house), fire alarms and fire sprinklers, and major support facilities like laundry, accounting, etc. This would be a major investment. .

It would seem because there are so many people awed by the memory of the Titantic .That somehow this would be preserved. The ship is impossible to restore but this can be saved as part of the legend .
Learn History, not HIS-STORY, or be doomed to repeat it. The Olympic, the Titanic’s sister ship. Evidence the Olympic was sunk intentionally: Portholes- The Olympic had exactly 16 portholes while the Titanic had 14. Photographs taken of the Titanic while it was in dry dock show it with 14 portholes. While photos taken before its fateful journey showed the Titanic with 16 portholes, just like the Olympic. The portholes on the Olympic were unevenly spaced while the Titanic had more evenly spaced portholes. The Titanic had acquired unevenly spaced windows before its maiden voyage. Very interesting… List to Port (leans towards the port side)- Because of the Olympic’s wrecks it had a noticeable 2 degree list to port. One of the few second class passengers to have survived the sinking, Lawrence Beesley, reported that the Titanic did have a slight list to port. Beesley was a science teacher, making him a reliable observer. He also wrote the first book about the Titanic disaster. Rumours amongst the Crew- Before the Titanic’s launch a nationwide coal strike left many firemen, boiler stokers, and greasers without work. Yet many of these men refused to work on the Titanic for any price. Rumours were circulating around the White Star Line that the Titanic had been swapped with the Olympic. Also even with the huge hype and fanfare surrounding the launch of the Titanic it was only a little over half full upon its departure. Was JP Morgan trying to limit casualties when the Olympic was ultimately going to be sunk? Also several high profile first class tickets were cancelled last minute suggesting that these people had knowledge of the scam. JP Morgan himself cancelled his ticket on the Titanic- JP Morgan the billionaire owner of the White Star Line was scheduled to go on the Titanic’s maiden voyage, but cancelled a few days before departure claiming illness. He was seen the day the Titanic sank in France with his mistress looking perfectly healthy. Also close friends of JP Morgan including Henry Clay Frick, a industrialist, and his wife, Horace J. Harding, a banker, and George Washington Vanderbilt all cancelled their tickets last minute. Californian- The SS Californian was another large passenger ship owned by JP Morgan that steamed out into the middle of the Atlantic carrying only 3000 woolen blankets and jumpers, no passengers. Was the Californian supposed to rescue the passengers of the sinking Titanic? A survivor, Edith Russel claimed the crew on the Titanic assured her as the ship was sinking the Californian was on its way. The Californian was 12 miles away from the Titanic as it sank because of navigation errors. Those errors cost 1500 people their lives. The wreck- The wreck discovered by Robert Ballard in 1985 supports the swap theory. A stamp on the propeller of the Titanic read 401. This was the same number found on the propeller on the sunken ship. However, the propeller was previously switched from the Titanic to the Olympic as part of its repairs. Also supporting that the boat on the ocean floor is not the Titanic but the Olympic. Lack of Media- Insurance scams and maritime fraud were common in the early 1900’s because of the lack of media coverage. It is very unlikely that a scam of this level could be pulled off today, but because there is only one video recording and very few photographs of the Titanic only the most observant person would have spotted the swap. Evidence that the Titanic sank: The wreck- Though the wreck supported the swap in some aspects it does not support it in more. The Titanic’s number 401 was found on my artifacts including furniture, and multiple other places on the ship. Was the scam really that detailed? Differences between the ships- The swap theory is largely based on the similarities between the two ships but there were also many huge differences, including structural changes and aesthetic changes. The first class Deck A was enclosed by a glass screen on the Titanic. This deck was open on the Olympic. The Olympic had a 1st class promenade on Deck B while the Titanic had private verandas and suites. People were booked into these suites which would be impossible if the ship was actually the Olympic. Loss of Reputation- Many sceptics of the swap theory believe that the loss of reputation for the White Star Line from one of their vessels sinking would be more devastating than the financial loss of the totalled Olympic. “The unsinkable ship” sinking on its maiden voyage would be a publicity disaster and lead customers away from the White Star Line. The intention of the White Star Line was to appeal to rich first class passengers who wanted a luxury and opulence during their travels. Deliberately sinking a ship- First of all, the Titanic had been described as “unsinkable”. Purposely sinking a ship the size of the Titanic is no easy task. Only a freak set of circumstances could lead to its sinking. If their plan was discovered they would have been charged with the deaths of over 1500 people. Is it really worth risking jail for an insurance scam to save some money? The Olympic after the Titanic- The Olympic or if the swap theory is true the Titanic, continued to serve for many years. It worked to transport troops during WWI. After the war it continued as a luxury liner during the 20s and 30s before being retired in 1935. In all the time since the sinking of the Titanic no evidence that the Olympic was actually the Titanic was ever found. Even in 1936 when the ship was dismantled for scrap there was no evidence that the ship was not the Olympic. This house has nothing to do with the titanic. He was simply an investor that happened to have a loved one in board. There is no significant connection. He didn't build the damn ship he just kicked in some cash.
That is the best and most in depth urban exploration I have ever seen of Lynnewood Hall...well done, you nailed it!! ❤️ Absolute jackpot! The marble bathrooms, fireplaces, the mouldings, the fixtures, the architecture...so top notch, and we will never see the quality of this work ever again. Can't bear it's being left to just die, it's so sad.
Me either. I wish so much they would re purpose them into anything besides letting them just rot. Such a shame. Especially since it is so old. They would be well worth remodeling and letting people tour them. I love stuff like that. So many things you could do with a beautiful building like this. Sad to see all work and beauty left to rot.
When this place was built it was built to last forever. It's so sad to see this beautiful mansion in so much disrepair simply from neglect. I'm sure when it was built it was filled with light. Hopefully someone will see the potential and bring light and life back into it.
You’ll be happy to know that recently a preservation foundation has been created to restore Lynnewood! Theyre in the beginning stages but will be interesting to see the progress over the next few years
The thing you were wondering about at 11:34 is a card catalog. Libraries used to use them do find books based on author, title, and topic before book catalogs were stored in a database and accessed on computers.
Yes I was going to comment that!! Memories. So thankful we have computers now! Card catalogs were necessary to find any book but a pain especially if some naughty kid stole the one card you were looking for to find your book!!!
I was just watching a Yes Theory vid, and one of the guys made a comment, “no matter how many abandoned places I visit, it never ceases to amaze me how many look like one day people were there and the very next day they were gone. A literal snapshot in time.” So many of those mementos in this vid were incredible!
Beautiful place. I'm betting that no expense spared when building it. The servants likely had no heating in their rooms having to sleep &wake up in the cold in winter & hot in summer. If I was able I would restore it to it's original splendor. So many beautiful antiques left behind. Thank you for the tour!!
It is a fact that these old mansions are outrageously expensive to maintain but, the value of the history in them and the beauty of the architecture is well worth saving.
A reminder that the beauty of this world is not eternal. Interesting history and architecture. Appreciated that verse you put at beginning of video...puts things into perspective
Don't wanna know about the heat and elictricity bill, plus the cleaning cost for 110 rooms every year besides the 50 Million for restore. They might restore it and change it into an Museum. What do you think? Would love to visit that place myself
The US government should take it over , preserve for future generations to come people to visit , of course may be people won’t mind being charge for the visit
Just fantastic! I have to confess I would feel so guilty living in such opulence with so many need just the basics. If I could I would re-do this place and make it a home for women and children who need to get away from a very bad bad man. A place to feel safe, catch your breath and start over again.
Can’t believe that there is no historical society in the ares trying to save this beautiful building. Beautiful and full of history and art, worth saving. Thank you for showing this. One suggestion, please pan the camera s l o w l y! I got dizzy a few times🤢
"$50 million to restore" would be the answer as to why abandoned? I honestly don't think $50 million would cover it, to restore all that ornate design with gold leaf, etc. Very sad.
I don't even live in the Philadelphia region but this property is very well known on the east coast. The church (yes, I have a huge problem with churches owning property) will not let it go so it sits and every year that it has no maintenance it will continue to disintegrate. In the end it will probably be demolished. There should be a law against churches owning property only to let them fall into disrepair. And of course churches don't pay taxes.
I love the book 'Flowers In Th Attic' and I have always tried to imagine what Foxworth Hall would look like. Except for the lack of the dual staircase and steep black slate roofs, this is as close to what my imagination pictured.
That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail of this video. It's not even as if Andrew's really went into great detail describing Foxworth Hall, so funny this is what I'm sure many people imagined. Miss those books!!
What a treasure that you brought to us! You could close our eyes and see a magistrate, like an Andrew Carnegie or JD Rockafeller, in their office and/or having a morning shave in that bathroom. Aweseome job presenting this huge mansion to us!
I can't stop watching! This is incredible! I watch other explorers but you are by far my favorite. I love how you pay attention to detail. And your love for the beautiful buildings just fills my heart!!!
Beautiful house. This one really needs to saved. Did you ask permission to get in? I really loved the marble; and the big bathrooms. A Canadian explorer was there a couple weeks ago and the house was sealed up with security. I'm glad you got in to see it. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
I'm laying here at a friend's house for a few days, no place to call home, I've had no food for two days, and am broke as hell, and to think that there are ppl in this world who can afford places like this. Crazy the diversity of people living on the same planet. Very beautiful place. Thank you for sharing. Love to all, and praying for all the ppl in a struggle like me.
I think if someone from one of those shows on HGTV(( the ones where the renovators actually cared about the story behind the house))got together with some investors and did like a 4part restoration project I'd definitely watch it. Wish I had some $ and knew how to restore I'd definitely take my time with this one
I would love to see that too. Unfortunately, it would take MILLIONS to get this back to its original state or even close. My husband and i have flipped a lot of houses and even the ones between 5,000-10,000 cost a LOT and because of the size require the right buyer. Its hard to find one once you get to those sizes since they can usually afford to do it themselves if they can afford that size but it would be an amazing restoration to see.
So grateful to these abandoned mansions explorers making videos for us to see gives me enormous pleasure sae time sadness that these mansions are left to decay as time goes by, so very sad.

I'm new to your channel and like you often say that you don't have words...me either. I am blown away, really. I can't believe these massive and beautiful mansions are abandoned. And I can't believe no one or a group of people, with some money, doesn't want to renovate them. This one especially, I mean wow. I've been watching your videos since yesterday afternoon and one of your subscribers said how she images these mansions when they were a family's home and they were filled with furniture and warmth. I've been doing the same thing and it almost makes you want to cry because of how cold and empty they look and probably feel now. I just also can't believe that you can just walk right through the front door. Blows my mind and I can't quit saying or thinking that. This mansion can't be left to crumble all the way to the ground. There has to be someone to help save it. So 😢 sad.

There are still craftsmen in America, and around the world capable of restoring such a beautiful mansion! Unfortunately, very few people, who can afford it , are not interested 🤷! One of the best Mansions and ( abandoned ) and Mansions I’ve seen. The majority of “ modern day mansions “ are probably much more expensive, but could not be compared!!

The guard dogs was throwing me off a bit lol I can back a week later to shoot a music video outside the building with two ppl. The cops pulled up and explained to us how much the building was worth and the importance of it. Great day!

So much beauty in this great place. Be nice to restore and possible make into a hotel. Have a partial museum inside showing the history of family and about the building. Also gifts shops could be set up inside of different parts of the building. A coffee shop. Many tourist would want to visit. Be a great investment. So much that can be done. Hope someone can save it and turn it into something great.
I can feel the hearts breaking of all the people who didn't do what they could've to preserve the heritage and legacy of the family patriarch. What could it be put to good use for now? $50M to renovate? Some kind of boarding house for HEB's perhaps? The fact it is 121 years old and still well put together shows the quality was worth the cost of the time. Such a shame

Why? That scripture is Jesus telling his disciples that he is preparing their place in Heaven. The absolute opposite of these worldly monuments to material possessions and obscene wealth. Think about it. Jesus said don't store your gifts where rats and moths will destroy them. This is what he meant. That scripture doesn't make sense.

Such beautiful architecture. It’s be amazing to see a restoration crowd funded & restored to its original glory then used as an orphanage or secured home for those seeking shelter to escape an abusive home. As there are numerous homes for women/children but less than 2 in the entire us that will allow fathers attempting to leave the same situation where the mother is the abuser.

This was mind blowing and this mansion should be saved, refurbished to the best of its abililty knowing much has been lost through ownerships. I pray it is saved, restored, and made available to the public for a historical monument.
Had to laugh at "whatever thing is" about like 11:45 the room with books and shelves. That's a blast from the past. A card catalog before computers. I remember the conversion from manual to machine. Great share. Too bad it be used for a better purpose other than just sitting there rotting away. The same way it was built, on dreams, it's going down. So sad for such a beautiful building, time capsule, and with much history.
This was a great video. Appreciate the Design & Architecture in this Mansion. It is a shame that it will just rot away with time , never to be preserved. Thank you for showing us.
It has changed a TON compared to the latest video (other than yours) that was done a month ago.. it wasn’t as furnished in a lot of those rooms.. and it truly looks like they are fixing the plumbing.. thank you for this amazing video though!!! I loooved seeing the changes that have been made!!! It’s truly amazing I hope more ppl will go and keep us updated on this beautiful mansion!!!! Again thank you!
It's just sad that something so beautiful and grand like that is just deteriorating! That poor house just sits there empty, just rotting away! This may sound strange, but I really do feel an empathy with the house itself! It just sits there day after day, season after season, and year after year with no one there to enjoy it! It's too bad someone doesn't turn it into a hotel or something!
It's really unfortunate that a connection to the Titanic was established. This man simply invested money to build the ship like many other wealthy people did. His actual story is far more interesting than the sunken Titanic that is irrelevant to this house or the millionaire who built it
@@heyauthor133 , Did you notice the lay out of the mansion is an upside down cross? In deed, the original owner was freemason. But then again, what elite isn't? That's no secret.
That filing cabinet that you were wondering what it was, is what we used to use to find books in a library. You would look the cards up alphabetical and it would tell you where to find the book. They were filed numerically usually. And it’s called claw foot not toe. You can tell that the building was used over the years for many different things. Imagine getting ready to leave, walking out front, sit down in the car, into the pocket for the keys, and.. no keys.. and now you've got to go 63 rooms in to get back to your bedroom to get the keys.. (like these folks drove themselves anywhere lol)
I really enjoyed getting a tour of this fabulous mansion. I love the quiet narrative, however I have a few constructive criticisms. I’d like to share. I would have preferred it if you used proper names for things like, the catalog card in the library, the marble mantle and a bedroom suite. I believe the room with the card catalog was the library, the bedroom suite has two rooms plus the bedroom. People might stay in these rooms if they were elderly or ill. That type of room was also used for VIP’s visits. Also, I really enjoyed seeing the servants quarters. I wonder what kind of schedule they kept? It reminds me of Downton Abby. I learned a lot about how the super mansions run and about how many it takes to run one. It’s in the high teens or lower twenties staff I imagine. Your video was thought provocative and entertaining. Thanks for neat tour.

Evidence that the Titanic sank:
The wreck- Though the wreck supported the swap in some aspects it does not support it in more.

That is the best and most in depth urban exploration I have ever seen of Lynnewood Hall...well done, you nailed it!! ❤️
Absolute jackpot!
This proves one thing, you will NOT be able to take it with you when you go.
Precisely. What does it profit a man to inherit the whole earth, but forfeit his eternal soul?
BINGO 👍
Didn’t want to he left for future generations to enjoy
Then they can still haunt it 😀
Money can’t buy health, happiness and life
When this place was built it was built to last forever. It's so sad to see this beautiful mansion in so much disrepair simply from neglect. I'm sure when it was built it was filled with light. Hopefully someone will see the potential and bring light and life back into it.
Hello GLynda how are you doing today
You’ll be happy to know that recently a preservation foundation has been created to restore Lynnewood! Theyre in the beginning stages but will be interesting to see the progress over the next few years
Love the fact that you were so respectful of the property
Like breaking and entering?
He left the book open, the key out of place, and broke in.
The thing you were wondering about at 11:34 is a card catalog. Libraries used to use them do find books based on author, title, and topic before book catalogs were stored in a database and accessed on computers.
Thank you!
Yes I remember those from childhood.
Yes I was going to comment that!! Memories. So thankful we have computers now! Card catalogs were necessary to find any book but a pain especially if some naughty kid stole the one card you were looking for to find your book!!!
Also, it was used to check out books when I was growing up and when the card was full they would type up another one!
🤣🤣🤣 OMG!! That makes me sound bloody ancient! 😳🤣

Awesome comment!
In this day and age with so many billionaires, 50 million dollars to restore it seems like play money. Come on billionaires, step up.
Well said
Don't wanna know about the heat and elictricity bill, plus the cleaning cost for 110 rooms every year besides the 50 Million for restore.
They might restore it and change it into an Museum. What do you think? Would love to visit that place myself
The US government should take it over , preserve for future generations to come people to visit , of course may be people won’t mind being charge for the visit
I don't think today's Billionaires see the beauty you see. I see it but can't afford to live in the stables/garage.
A billionaire could do it easily and then turn it into a museum and charge. Or give it to the government and make a national museum.
Just fantastic! I have to confess I would feel so guilty living in such opulence with so many need just the basics. If I could I would re-do this place and make it a home for women and children who need to get away from a very bad bad man. A place to feel safe, catch your breath and start over again.
I agree totally with you Sue Robinson!
Exactly what I was thinking! So many people homeless and needing safe sanctuary!
That’s a kind thought.
What a place to house those trying to escape war torn countries...
EXACTLY
Can’t believe that there is no historical society in the ares trying to save this beautiful building. Beautiful and full of history and art, worth saving. Thank you for showing this. One suggestion, please pan the camera s l o w l y! I got dizzy a few times🤢
Exactly!
"$50 million to restore" would be the answer as to why abandoned?
I honestly don't think $50 million would cover it, to restore all that ornate design with gold leaf, etc.
Very sad.
@carolyn boyce indeed!
@@IntriguedLioness Nobody gives a 💩 about how you feel about churches owning property. Maybe you shouldn’t own property? Why should you have rights?
I love the book 'Flowers In Th Attic' and I have always tried to imagine what Foxworth Hall would look like. Except for the lack of the dual staircase and steep black slate roofs, this is as close to what my imagination pictured.
Haunting. I read it as a child.

I loved those books growing up..
Great memories
I read that book when I was 14. I’m now 52. Yes, this house reminds me of what that house would look like.
That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail of this video. It's not even as if Andrew's really went into great detail describing Foxworth Hall, so funny this is what I'm sure many people imagined.

I think the Property Brothers could do it in 5-6 weeks and a minimal budget😂

So 😢 sad.

I love the scripture that you put on your videos! And I enjoy the mansions an all you put on the videos.
Why? That scripture is Jesus telling his disciples that he is preparing their place in Heaven. The absolute opposite of these worldly monuments to material possessions and obscene wealth.
