DUUUUHHH YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT SHARPENING JUST RUN BOW OR BOWGUN OR HEAVY BOWGUN DUUUUUH
oh i'm a year late
@@failplayer14 Now this, this is the comment that got a chuckle out of me.
@@Waddicker lmaooo
and if you want still making it hard do kinsect only
I love this comment
Of all the choices you could have made in terms of weapons i never expected you to pick dual blades of All things because they tear through your sharpnes like crazy due to their fast multihit nature wich makes the entire run even more impressive to me
Thanks! I did consider that they would shred through sharpness more than most weapons, but I figured that once I was at red sharpness my damage would be miniscule on any of the weapons, so made sense to pick one that lets me get the most hits in.
I was expecting HH because of the Self Improvement
I recall that Dual blades get a reduction to sharpness loss by default. Not too sure how it worked in World, but I read it is a thing in Freedom Unite.
You mean.. dull blades 🥴
@@brandonmiller9155 Nice 😎
As a Hunting Horn main I completely forgot that bouncing was a thing...
YES!!
As a bow main I forgot sharpness exists
Same
Bouncing?(have only ever played HH)
@@potatoking2161 most melee weapons will “bounce” or deflect off harder parts of monsters when their sharpness depletes. Hunting horn players never run into this issue though, since the universal HH buff, self improvement, grants minds eye to the user, which prevents bouncing.
"I'd make a pun about the handler being dull, but her unlikability is probably an edge case", you sly dog I almost missed that double pun. Comedy gold!
Thank you, I was quite happy with that one so nice to see it noticed.
Its funny because my friend who's new to monster hunter for whatever reason loves her.
I dont get it.
I much prefer the serious handler
The best part is. That the long sword would cheese the entire challenge because of its pierce moves which aren’t affected by sharpness
Full counter!- Sun tzu the art of war
Lance too, garunteed hits
Same with the Switchaxe
Sword and Shield as well
all aerials with insect glaive won't bounce off
Gunlance would be intresting for the next one, as it loses the ability to shell once it hits red and burns through sharpness on top, but shelling is not affected by sharpness till red
As a gl main
God, no, you run out of sharpness so fast I sharpen like twenty times a minute
This game was my first mh game and I almost did this on accident haha. And I was using dual blades haha. Then my friend noticed I kept bouncing and was like bro you know you can sharpen right.
Yeah it's one of those things you can easily forget about if you get too into a hunt! Happened dozens of times.
I replied to this about a year late but this is incredible! Glad to see other people doing this challenge in other Monster Hunter Games! 😄
Thanks! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the video since it means a ton coming from you! Your videos were the main inspiration for this one, and I love rewatching them every few months.
Speaking of doing it in other Monster Hunter games, it's been on the back-burner but I'm definitely intending to do the same challenge in Rise since people enjoyed this video so much.
@@Waddicker Wouldn't this challenge in Rise be much easier due to Bludgeoner?
@@General_C Bludgeoner is actually also in World too, on the Diablos set. I still don't know if I want to exclude Bludgeoner or not from my Rise no sharpening run I'm currently doing.
A tip for the healing items: you can easily bring crafting components for more as part of your loadout. For example, you could bring 10x mega potions, 10x potions and 10x honey, giving you effectively 20 mega potions.
As a hammer main I really wanted to see you pick it and bonk everything to oblivion but even without the hammer this was still a super impressive video!
Thanks for the complements! I ended up being a hammer and charge blade main at the end of MHW and all through MH:Rise, so I've definitely had my fair share of bonking!
Condensed elemental bash. I have yet to use rotating ax because bash is just so fun to use and get 4 easy KO's using an artillery slugger T3 + dango slugger. No monster has escaped me without getting bonked and KO'd twice because it chains so well.
@@yikes6969 Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed.
@@Waddicker some wake up choosing violence
@@yikes6969 what is this ifunny?
10:03 welcome to Actual Monster Hunter
hold on lemme just sharpen my hammer
Pretty sure mind’s eye retains the sharpness degredation penalty of bouncing just without the bounce animation. Additionally, your utilization of mind’s eye mechanic through weapon move sets further mystifies this choice lol
Because almost every weapon in the game has some form of minds eye you can access. If I omitted minds eye completely, many weapon's movesets would get chopped in half.
If the minds eye skill was allowed and I equiped it, nothing about how I play the game would have changed from just a normal playthrough. At least without it I was only able to attack with demon mode active, which is a fairly sizeable handicap.
@@Waddicker nothing except sharpening was expected to be changed anyway. Or at least that was not on the table until you seemingly randomly made that a condition (hence my saying it was mystifying).
It would’ve been more interesting to see a weapon without natural razor sharp and a less cheese move do it. I’d click on the sequel if you decide to make one.
@@upd0g1 Yeah, the video mostly prioritizes on no sharpening, but I decided to add in those extra rules to make it harder and to ensure I actually had to play differently when doing the challenge. Anything that made my life easier and wasn't a part of my weapon was off limits, also makes my weapon choice a bit more interesting.
I actually am working on a sequel currently for Rise, and so far it's going quite different!
@@Waddicker rise bad world good
@@upd0g1 Nah
I love this video so much I always laugh when you talk about how bazel is definitely the monster that’s received the most amount of dung pods, and so does your character naming process, and the insults towards the handler
Great video! I would especially love to see you do the Iceborne expansion without sharpening. I wonder how you’d get past rajang’s rampage mode with the hardened arms or ruiner nerg’s armor. All in all very entertaining and I hope you get more recognition for your content.
Thank you so much! For the moment I'm doing MH:Rise next, but Iceborne is definitely on the table to do without sharpening!
Yes, with ranged weapons.
Seriously though, with melee weapons, this’ll be interesting.
Hammer with the one skill that increases damage and stun with less sharpening.I think that's the buff. I haven't played it in a while
Video: No sharpness
Me: sleep
Video: With Dual Blades
Me: You have my undivided attention.
I love how you chose every weapon I main for this challenge and wound up going with the one single weapon I barely touch lmao
Doot hammer is the obvious choice. The self buff prevents bouncing without affecting sharpness. Plus you can get defense boost, health regen, attack boost, and/or heals on demand.
Legiana: "It's a big ice-based bird wyvern", it's a flying wyvern.
Interesting picking dual blades. My first thought goes to he Charge Blade as it has natural minds eye to work with the low sharpness
Thank you! I didn't pick the CB primarily because it's minds eye is locked behind charging your phials and shield first, that and the damage numbers would probably be so low at low sharpness that dual blades could out DPS it.
Quick Correction:
The amped weapons have mind's eye, but also Phial Discharges.
PDs only scale off of attack or element and ignore sharpness, meaning they do damage regardless.
Another thing to note is you can get stored phials with easily with
(Charged slash >> shieldbash >> charged slash) should get you red; quicker with focus
Amped sword and amped axe last 45 seconds each (iirc) and can be rebuffed as long as the shield is buffed, which is 2 to 3 minutes, all of the above with power prolonger.
Meaning every part of your weapon has mind's eye, along with phials ignoring sharpness
Lastly;
PD
Amped elemental discharge
Super amped elemental discharge
Savage Super amped elemental discharge
All ignore sharpness values (meaning no bounce iirc)
If you decide to do this again in mh rise, why not show cb some love?
@@XenocraftGalaxy Don't worry, I was aware of all this going into the challenge as I main Charge Blade. I am currently doing the challenge in Rise again, but it's still with dual blades.
@@Waddicker I see, best of luck!
Hunting horn would have been an amazing choice due to it not bouncing off monsters at low sharpness and it's sound echo attack ignores sharpness and always does the same amount of damage; same with the melodies.
Im new to MHW and recently i just hit hr 49 by then and mains CB. I love how the community always has neat, challenging idea that's interesting. I really like this community, it's different. I'd love if you do more challenges like this
This is insanely well done and I hope this channel will at some point get the recognition it deserves
Thank you, it means so much to me to hear that after for 4+ years on this channel.
I may be 2 years late but this still just as impressive a new to this day
Super well done video, congrats on beating the challenge as well !
Thank you!
Awesome Vid! I love your attention the the music in your video, using the monster's or local's theme. (Also Nergigante Theme is a certified Banger)
Thank you! Music was a big part of making the video flow nicely, so I made sure to change it whenever it was appropriate.
As a dootstick main I think the horn would actually make this challenge easy, at least mechanically. Self-improvement is a hell of a drug.
Oh absolutely, HH is probably top three weapons to do this challenge with.
To make Luna's fire nova easier to survive use astera jerky it recovers the red portion of your bar.
I'm not quite sure on my favorite monster from World, but Odo is defo up there. As embarrassing as it is to say this, when I started World I mained Charge Blade. That in and of itself is far from embarrassing, but I didn't have a clue what I was doing with it. I didn't know anything about shield charging or Super Amped Element Discharge (SAED). But during that mission where you first fight Odo, I found the little dude who gives out items on that level and he gave me a power seed. I ate it, and soon after was fighting Odo. Now, at some point, things just lined up in such a way that over the course of the fight I apparently charged my shield, and one time when Odo was on the ground, I went for what I thought was the normal Amped Element Discharge, and suddenly it was like the hammer of god came down when instead the SAED happened. I was so fucking confused, I thought it was actually caused by the power seed I ate earlier. It still makes me laugh thinking about that time, and is one of my better memories from World.
When I first played this game, when I got to odogaron I was using the charge blade but after a few rounds of dying after what seemed to be an hour of smacking it with the phial moves, I switched to the insect glaive to test it out and pretty much the entire fight was me jumping in the air, using the b move a few times and then mounting it.
Unironically thought this was like a 500k view video until I checked the comments and view count. Good job on the editing man, sharpening is pain
Thank you so much! It means a ton, and yes, sharpening is pain.
This was a fun watch! You kicked ass in this challenge!
Thank you!
My first play through of mhw was dual blades and I loved the beyblade attack especially on xeno. It feels like a proud father watching their kid go off to college lmfao. I’m gonna go play mhw again
jyuratodus: "this fight was kinda just uninteresting"
man if that isn't a bang on description of mudkip in both world and rise idk what is
Still shocks me Jyra is a 5 star high rank monster in Rise.
@@Waddicker surprised they brought him back at all
@@its_deer Someone on the dev team must just really love Jyratodus.
I think the most challenging weapon to do no-sharpening with would be Gunlance. Mostly because of how much the shelling and Wyvern Fire damage changes based on sharpness level.
They don't change until Yellow shapness and on red sharp shelling just don't work
Started playing MHW about 15 days ago, just yesterday I learned about restocking at camp... Literally completed story and Iceborn WITHOUT ever restocking my healing/buff/cleanse items, suffered a lot
As someone who’s played DB since 3U, you LOVE to see it 👏🏻
The first time i booted up mh3u i always wondered if you could do it. Good to see someone actually do it
Great video man!
Great video! Really enjoyed it
Man, as much as I love dbs, I probably would've picked sns for this type of thing because of how sharpness heavy dbs are, plus sns being pretty good in world and you can just use the shield for kos and avoiding sharpness loss all together
creates challenge where sharpness is an extremely valuable and limited resource so every ounce of sharpeness is a commodity to be hoarded frugally.
Chooses the weapon that tears through sharpness the most.
Getting recommended these videos on world is making me go back and actually play the game because I quit before I got past the tutorial quest but got back into MH through rise
I think its pretty cool that you used the respectove combat/exploration music as background music
Im surprised theres no mention at all of hunting horn, what with its self buff song giving you the effects of mind eye. Sure it may not be in the spirit of the challange, but it should have had at least an honorable mention.
It's mostly because I don't really like using the HH that much. Plus, most weapons in MHW come with some form of natural minds eye you can access easily, so in the instance of a big heavy weapon I'd probably have gone with Hammer for it's mobility and minds eye when charging.
Ancient leshin is designed for multiplayer? So that's why he was so difficult...
He's still difficult with master rank gear
Thank you for not showing footage of hurting our collective son Dodogama. It’s 2023 and I still have yet to lay even the slightest finger on my boy
13:01 that YEAAHHH. Made me think of the dude who won the lottery on Fallout NV
the funny thing is that your Weapon Choice made your run also that much easier, because throught Demon Mode you negate the Possibility of your Weapon bouncing of ^^' But you still did an amazing job :D thanks for that fun video
Yep! I figured it would help a lot having minds eye, but still make it interesting enough considering my sharpness would be consistently lower than most other weapons.
Just a small note, Swaxe does also have built-in minds-eye. But, in Iceborne, it heavily relies on a modified clutch-claw-esque attack so I understand not using it regardless.
It does, but only on it's sword mode, so it's quite a bit less usable.
@@Waddicker Very true! Quite the limiting moveset with both of these restrictions in mind.
Check the description for links to ReaverJolt and TheHunterProject's sharpness challenge videos on MH4U and MHW respectively. I hope you enjoy the video! Glad to see people doing a challenge I just do by accident most of the time 😂
Blunt object: gets blunter. Bluntness: INTENSIFIES.
This challenge is a cake walk for a HH user since sharpening is almost never needed to begin with it and it has native minds eye
In World it's a cakewalk for most weapons I'd say since weapons have so much sharpness that it rarely becomes a factor in high rank.
You may have avoided sharpening the weapon but you certainly sharpened the mind! Ok I’ll see myself out-
I might be wrong, but something deep in my brain is telling me the game adds 1 successful hunt against Dodogama to your journal after your first encounter with it. That could be entirely made up and I've just convinced myself that's the case, but it came from somewhere
Great video and editing!!! I wish more people discover your channel
Thank you! It took a lot of work to make so I'm happy people like it.
nice video, bit late on coming to recomendation after a year. but honestly cant get over the way youre saying the monsters name very funny way of saying it
keep it up!!
DevilHOE KEKW
I'd use Charged Shelling Gunlance. Shelling damage would be crap without sharpening, but at least you'd have consistent, non-hitzone dependant damage. But your challerge run was awesome! Great video!
This probably wouldn't be too good long term, as you can't shell at all anymore when you reach red sharpness, and you'll chew through it in no time with shells. But thank you! Would make for a more challenging run for sure.
found your channel off this video, super surprised you dont have more views holy. keep it up tho really enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much!
I was really expecting you to play charge blade, mainly due to sword and shield mode where if you chargw your shield, then your sword, your sword gets a temporary minds eye, but dual blades makes this much more interesting
Puddle pods break the mud on barroth without having to use your weapons lol. Figured that out on accident the other day.
I love vaal i thought he matched the rotten vale perfectly he is my favorite monster a dragon made of full death
This is amazing lmao, good job man
Thank you!
I love the “Fundamentals: Sharpness” tooltip the game shows you at 23:50. Lmao.
I just got into mh with rise and I'm not sure if the glaive works the same but in rise if you get red pheromone and use your aerial B/circle you will do every attack regardless of if it should bounce. If it works the same in world I'd imagine it'd be a very viable option.
1:26 as a gunlance main, OW MY FEELINGS
wadicker. i loved this video and really like your straight forward nature. i looked around at your channel and it seems like every other video you have is over 2 hours long which is not very accessible and may be the reason your views are so low. I'm going to subscribe anyway as I seriously am impressed by the fact that you've stuck it out this many years. you'll probably never see this but have a good one
Thank you so much for the complements and kind comments!
Yeah, all our other videos are our twitch streams and aren't accessible for lots of people, but I know there are people out there who prefer longer content. I've stuck it out for so long despite the low views just because I love doing it, and knowing that there are those who love to watch what we make. You don't need to watch the whole videos either or follow the full series, just pop in whenever you're bored and need something to watch!
I do have a lot of shorter content on my channel with Sh*t Yourself Sunday, 12 Days of Meatmas, and Take it, Hold it, Mod it.
Charge blade without sharpening sounds like actual hell, since the boosted shield, blade, and axe all shred through your sharpness gauge, so really you can't use any of them if you want to keep up your sharpness as long as possible, and that really kneecaps the weapon.
This was a genuinely impressive feat
Thank you!
Interesting how switch axe wasnt in consideration for weapon type as it has built in minds eye that doesnt require charging first and phial damage like CB
It only has minds eye on sword mode and not axe mode, meaning I'd need to reload every 5 seconds in order to do damage. Compared to the dual blades which gets it at a single button press and just needs stamina.
"Innate easy to access minds eye"
Cries in slash axe
Waddicker when facing dodogama:
Im sorry little one...
Me, a Frostcraft clutch claw heavybowgun user: not impressed.
Anyways, good video and good job on it, I love the game and these challenges/different playstyles are what I'm into now as I finished the game.
Ive actually done this by accident and finished the whole game till the mid into iceborne when i saw my friend sharpen his sword. I was so confused why most of my fights took so long, i thought the enemies grew better durability when they were weak but i guess i was just dumb haha.
Holy shit, I've been playing rise so much recently and forgot how cool the monsters look in world
It would've been interesting to use the talent that gives you more attack when your sharpness is down though
Just starting the video, I'm surprised Insect Glaive wasn't one of your choices because the airborne attacks and kinsects don't bounce. Though I guess that would ruin the point of the challenge like the clutch claw 😂
Also happy 3 years to this video, good to see this game kicking back in recently
aside from the obvious ranged weapons:
ig can do it without losing any sharpness ever.
you can do it with palico rally+wr without using any weapons.
you can do it by only using items and slinger.
thus, you can do a pacifist run, with no kills, no main weapon hits, no damage taken, and caps only.
U need more subs man you make great and entertaining content
Thank you!
Well done I’m proud another dual bladist
I bought it when it was only Ten dollars and it was my first MH game, I completed it and didn’t even know you could sharpen your weapons 👁🗨👁🗨
The tail cut on xeno was so fucking clean holy shit
I know right, real smooth.
You could also go hunting horn since you never bounce of a monster
when I 1st play this game and it's actually my 1st ever monster hunter game. I I hardly sharp my weapons. the only time I need to is when I realized I doing little damage and keep bouncing off the monster when hitting. so I beat my 1st 4 bosses without sharpening without knowing it. XD and your dual blades was the best weapon for this run. only because when demon mode you can go pass through armor and do normal damage anyway. other weapons I can actually see wont help for this type of run. the biggest issue is timing your hits. if you didn't time your hits right you get knocked away and your weapon bounce off if hitting armored parts.
*Invaded Kadachi's territory*

Chad
I completely forgot the sharpening part of the game after it was introduced and beat the game without using it completely on accident
I just started playing monster hunter world a week ago and all already have the pink Rathian armor set.
This happened to me back then in monster hunter freedom, thats when i realized whetstones had to be farmed. i also became a hammer user in the end since hammer doesnt bounce.
I’m a bit late but an interesting choice of weapon would be the Hunting Horn since Self Improvement song gives Mind’s Eye and don’t use a lot of sharpening when attacking
*Laughs in SwAxe Sword Mode*
*Laughs in EBurst*
*Laughter slowly shifts into sobbing*
I honestly thought you were gonna pick charge blade for this because youd basically be able to ignore bouncing all together as long as you can manage to keep your swird powered up, choosing dual blades though made for an interesting challenge video
Yep! That would have been the idea with charge blade. I skipped it since I main CB mostly, and Hammer.
Good challenge run!
I need Stun Charm. I HATE being stunned.
Or hope for some steadfast decorations too!
"flashing her to keep her at bay"
... :D Nice
me as a kid dont knowing that Sharpening exist
I’m a year late but this vid smackssss you deserve much more attention keep up the work
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
I mean I don't know if you mentioned this, but going into camp automatically fills up your sharpness again. Could've been a good work around.
I did, at 9:44.
I was thinking about this video earlier. The easiest answer is HH because it negates bounce. Lol
But that negates the spirit of your version of the run. Good video, I watched it a few months after it released and I'll be watching it again since I'm already here. Lol
Thank you! And yeah it would have negated too much of the challenge probably.
I really thought that you would pick hunting horn for its attack up + no attack deflection melody in tandem with attack up, defense up, wind pressure negated melodies.
