    I like how this kind of shows a reenactment about how a P51 or any American fighter would handle a dogfight against a Japanese aircraft with boom and zoom tactics, very well made.

    • @demetridar506
      @demetridar506 2 года назад +2

      This is bullshit. The Hayate can outfly the P-51 in every respect.

    • @migmadmarine
      @migmadmarine 2 года назад +1

      i agree. all turning does is bleed off airspeed/energy

    • @demetridar506
      @demetridar506 2 года назад

      @@migmadmarine What turning does is evades the enemy bullets. Unless you like holes in your engine, fuel tanks, and pilot's body, turning is essential. The other thing that turning does is allows you to poke holes on your enemy. This is why the call them "dogfights". A fighter with poor turning and climb rate (they go together) is a very deficient fighter. Having said that, the deficiency can be compensated by huge numbers, which is where the Mustang fits in.

    The Mustang had weaknesses compared to the Japanese land-based fighters but had the speed and the self-leading gun sight plus North American protected the pilot and fuel tanks with steal reinforcement and the self-sealing gas tanks. Our planes were heavier than the Japanese but I bet the Ki-84 had the same weakness as the A6M Zeros in that their control surfaces weren't hydraulic so they froze at high speeds. Also if you were above them and attacked they would inevitably dive and that is when we had them. Their pilots were not trained sufficiently at the point in the war when they started fighting our superior planes. On the other hand, our pilots after so many hours would rotate back to America and help train the new pilots and the Axis powers had no rotation system. That is why their Aces had so many more kills than ours. Lastly, the P-51's were manufactured in a way that minimized errors. The Luftwaffe and the Japanese fighters were hand-built.

      The pilots that flew the ki84s towards the end of the war were not very skilled, the ki84 has its advantages over the p51 such as climb rate, maneuverability, and firepower, so in reality it just lacked skilled pilots to operate with it, which is why p51 pilots were able to shoot them down easily as ww2 was ending for Japan

    I wonder if the Japanese ever equipped their planes with self sealing gas tanks. I would have liked to see Ki-84 against a Bearcat.

    • @rodneypayne4827
      @rodneypayne4827 2 года назад +1

      Yes, the Japanese did use self sealing fuel tanks and armour on the Hayate (Ki84) and the Hein(Ki61), the myth that they didn't stems from the early Zero (A6m2) and Ki27 'Nate' and early bombers which didn't. Even the Hayabusa (Ki43) had an aerly form of sealing tanks and from the A6M3 onwards so did the Zero. Pretty much all fighters 1943 onwards had them and most of the later bombers.
      To be clear they were not equipped as well as the Allied forms of tanks and armour.

    Once hit, the Japanese pilot could not bail out, because Japanese pilots did not have a parachute.
    I felt anxious, hoped he would be able to crashland his plane before it would explode. Then he luckily could land, but it did not become clear if he got out of the wreck alive. I do hope he made it!!!

    • @michaelbevan3285
      @michaelbevan3285 2 года назад +1

      Japanese Army pilots wore parachutes as a matter of policy and Japanese Navy pilots did not. It was a matter of personal choice, too and pilots who flew unarmoured aircraft like the Zero, Ki-43 and various bombers knew full well that their aircraft were dreadfully vulnerable to enemy fire yet they continued to fly them in combat. It wasn't until the loss rate of aircrew and aircraft hit home that newer types such as the Hayate had armour, self sealing fuel tanks, bulletproof windscreens and built-in dinghies like American aircraft, by which time the war was lost for Japan.

    • @erhardspies8779
      @erhardspies8779 2 года назад

      @@michaelbevan3285 That's an interesting new fact for me. I always wondered why Japanese pilots did not have parachutes, and now I read army pilots had one and navy pilots did not. Do you know why?
      The Japanese lost unnecessarily many pilots because of that and because at the beginning their planes were not armoured.

  • @tomhighway1952
    @tomhighway1952 2 года назад +6

    I watch a lot of these combat flight sim videos from a lot of different channels. I see so many comments from people pointing out how it's bullshit that aircraft x could win a fight against aircraft z because aircraft z was a better aircraft. I find this amusing, and it usually means the person making the comment has no experience flying real aircraft. And they likely get their opinion from playing a video game, and reading a little bit about the specifications of the individual aircraft.
    I'm a pilot who has owned and flown high performance aircraft. I've also raced motorcycles most of my life, which has been seven decades long. I can say with some confidence, and experience, that in the huge majority of cases, the capabilities of a particular machine are not what determines the outcome of a dogfight, or a race. There are two main factors that make that determination. The capabilities of the people in control of the machines, and luck.
    If the pilot of your favored aircraft gets his ass shot out of the sky by The pilot of an aircraft you believe to be inferior, don't be so eager to call bullshit. You have no idea of the circumstances surrounding the engagement.
